Climate Change Is Upon Us Or Something

Hey, you know the whole “weather isn’t climate” meme that everyone is talking about, especially since Trump’s tweet on the subject (news outlets have been pushing missives all day long)? Yeah, about that

Climate change is upon us, and businesses need to adjust

The record-breaking hurricanes, wildfires and blizzards of 2017 may surprise some, but they were all predicted 25 years ago.

The prophecies were neither secret nor the product of supernatural powers. They were forecast by scientists calculating what would happen if average global temperatures continued to rise. They did, and now here we are.

Included is a handy dandy picture of what global warming, sorry, climate change looks like

No, really. Chris Tomlinson goes on to blame all the hurricanes in 2017 on Hotcoldwetdry

Not every year will produce the kind of storms 2017 witnessed. But with average ocean temperatures setting record highs in 2015, 2016 and 2017, according to NOAA, there is every reason to prepare for more storms like hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

Yet, we didn’t get the same in 2015 or 2016. Nor any landfalling major hurricanes for the U.S. since October 2005. Regardless, Chris goes on to blame wildfires on Hotcoldwetdry. And drought. And floods.

The most counterintuitive impact of a warmer climate is more severe cold weather. Higher average temperatures do not mean that extreme winter events will be less likely. In fact, scientists predicted warmer water temperatures in northern latitudes could shift weather patterns and intensify winter storms.

Authorities declared an emergency in Erie, Pa., on Christmas Day after receiving 34 inches of snow, the most ever in a single day. Another 24 inches fell on Tuesday, making the storm reminiscent of Hurricane Harvey’s 51 inches of rain. The previous single-day snowfall record had been 20 inches.

The key factor in the huge snowfall? Warmer-than-average lake temperatures. When Arctic winds blow over Lake Erie’s open water, more water vapor enters the atmosphere and results in a much heavier lake effect snowfall.

These guys aren’t any different from religious folks who always have an answer for everything, like how there are dinosaur bones despite them claiming that the Earth is only a bit over 6,000 years old. Of course, those folks don’t want to tax and fee you to death, nor put the government in control of your life.

Bummer: Sanctuary City Worried About Losing Funding For Being A Sanctuary City

There’s a simple solution for this. Can you guess what it is? Exactly. And, even cuter, they are now calling themselves “safe communities”

Amherst officials prep for loss of police grant over ‘sanctuary’ status

Because it has declared itself a safe community for undocumented immigrants, Amherst could be at risk of losing a grant that has paid the salary of the police department’s neighborhood liaison officer.

Town officials and the police department have received no notification about the status of the Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant, but Town Manager Paul Bockelman said he fears Amherst is facing a similar situation to Lawrence, which recently was informed by the U.S. attorney general’s office that its federal grants would be taken away.

“The money hasn’t been released by the federal government and we don’t know if it will be,” Bockelman said.

Last month, Lawrence was the only Massachusetts city to receive one of 29 letters sent by Acting Assistant Attorney General Alan Hanson warning of consequences for declaring itself a sanctuary city for those who have come to the United States illegally. That letter was also sent to cities, including Berkeley and Los Angeles, and states, such as Vermont.

The grant is actually something recent, and seems to be a typical squishy Obama program

Funding for the neighborhood liaison position began in fall 2015 with a one-year, $92,164 Byrne grant, paying for salary and benefits, equipment and other expenses, such as attending professional development conferences. The town received the grant again in 2016, though Amherst has never been assured of receiving it from year to year.

It’s very simple: stop being a sanctuary city, sorry, safe community. Stop protecting people who are in the country illegally. I bet Town Manager Paul Bockelman would be pretty upset if someone broke into his car and took a few things, right?

Crazy Person Yells At Disney’s Robot Trump

Remember the one where Democrat sore losers screamed at the sky on the anniversary of Trump defeating Hillary fair and square? Then there’s this

(Daily Caller) Meet the saddest person in America – Jay Malsky.

Malsky is a New York-based actor who has played “drag comedy characters,” including Hillary Clinton.

Malsky does not like Donald Trump and made that clear on a recent trip to DisneyWorld, where the actor “protested” the animatronic Trump featured in the Hall of Presidents.  Malsky tweeted that he was planning on either throwing something at the robo-Trump or murdering it.

And he went on to do this

Congratulations. You yelled at a robot. And a really, really bad one, which people think Disney had one made for Hillary, then had to change it to look like Trump.

Ben Shapiro wrote “Not all heroes wear capes”. Many people noted how Malsky basically ruined it for the kids, and certainly scared many kids with his crazy. Obviously, many other #resist nutters were super supportive of scaring kids while yelling at a robot. Yet, these same people are happy to say they’re the smartest people in the world and super mature. Uh huh.

Trump Sends Out Tweet On Cold Weather And Global Warming, People Lose Their Minds

I wonder, have the Trump haters considered that he’s just doing this to mess with them? That he knows they will lose their collective minds, and that he and the folks around him are getting a good laugh? And that his tweets cause the Credentialed #Resist Media to chase rabbits down holes while Trump and his folks go off and do things that the media misses during that time?

This has causes all sorts of blue check mark folks to try and explain the difference between weather and climate, forgetting that they will themselves blame every weather event on ‘climate change’. Many immediately put up missives at mainstream outlets, such as this front page one at the Washington Post, which includes

But a single cold streak does not prove climate change is fake. Man-made global warming, as the name suggests, refers to the steady rise of average temperature of Earth’s climate system because of the buildup of heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere. Indeed, at the moment much of the rest of world is warmer than normal even if a portion of the United States is chilly.

As I noted in response to Trump’s tweet

https://twitter.com/WilliamTeach/status/946556511655989248

And the WP article goes on

That added energy to Earth’s climate system alters more than just average temperatures. One active and heavily debated area of climate research concerns the degree to which climate change causes the jet stream encircling the Arctic to wobble southward, and send a surge of cold air across portions of North America — as it is now.

That’s right, blaming anthropogenic climate change for cold, and actually has several more paragraphs on the subject. And there were plenty of other tweets doing the same, such as

The NY Times has a front page article on Trump’s tweet, and in another front page article that explains all the crazy cold and massive snows in apocalyptic ways, we get

While scientists routinely find themselves explaining that day-to-day weather patterns are not the same as long-term climate trends, they also widely agree that human-caused climate change is exacerbating extreme weather.

Got that? The same people who are Warmistsplaining the difference between weather and climate are not only blaming cold weather on ‘climate change’, but also, surprise, confusing weather and climate themselves.

Remember, When It’s Cold And Snowy, That’s Just Weather, You Guys

With a serious cold snap going on, Warmists are quick to point this out, such as Marshall Shepherd

A Response For People Using Record Cold U.S. Weather To Refute Climate Change

If you are reading or watching the news, winter weather is the current headline. Negative wind chills, feet of lake effect snow in the Great Lakes region, and possibly the coldest New Year’s Eve ball drop in almost a half century are on tap. Forecasts are suggesting that temperatures will be in the teens and wind chills below 0 deg F as the famed ball descends from the New York City skyline. The top 3 coldest temperatures were: 1 degree F in 1917, 11 degrees in 1962, and 15 degrees in 1976/1996, respectively. Like clockwork, you will also start seeing tweets and posts refuting climate change even though 2017 will end as one of the top 3 warmest years on record. It is very common to see statements like”those climate scientists are full of it, I have 30 inches of global warming in my yard.” These moments are perfect opportunities to increase science literacy. Here is a template for how I often explain cold weather within the context of a warming climate.

The key thing to convey to that skeptical uncle or vociferous social media friend is that “weather is mood, climate is personality.” My University of Georgia colleague Dr. John Knox mentioned this a few years ago, and it has been one of my favorite techniques to use while dealing with this pesky climate communication challenge for the public.  Weekly or daily weather patterns tell you nothing about longer-term climate change (and that goes for the warm days too). Climate is defined as the statistical properties of the atmosphere: averages, extremes, frequency of occurrence, deviations from normal, and so forth. The clothes that you have on today do not describe what you have in your closet but rather how you dressed for today’s weather. In reality, your closest is likely packed with coats, swimsuits, t-shirts, rain boots, and gloves. In other words, what’s in your closet is a representation of “climate.” Even my colleagues in the broadcast meteorology world are not immune to the snarky comments about cold weather and global warming.  WMAZ-Macon Meteorologist Matt Daniel summed it up this way, (snip)

What we are seeing right now in the United States is just,………well……wait for it……”winter”…..Even as climate warms, we will always have winter (cold weather, snowstorms, blizzards). Winter is related to how the Earth is tilted on its axis as it moves around the Sun. In a previous Forbes piece, I described how the axial tilt of our planet determines our seasons.

Interesting. And correct. Because weather happens. Seasons happen. Some years will be warmer or colder than others. Earth will go through warm periods and cool periods, along with hot ones and ice ages. None of this proves that mankind has mostly/solely caused any of this. Perhaps Dr. Shepherd should explain this to his Warmist brethren, who blame every weather event on ‘climate change.’ Or, to himself

Oh, and to throw a another counterintuitive thing out there, there are some studies that suggest that a warming climate (because more water vapor is available to a warmer atmosphere) may fuel bigger blizzards or snowstorms. That science is also emerging.

NY Gov Cuomo Rebukes Trump On Immigration With Pardons Or Something

Putting illegal aliens over U.S. citizens, that’s the Democratic Party way. Also, a rebuke for federal law

In Rebuke to Trump, Cuomo Pardons 18 Immigrants

In a jab at President Trump’s promises to crack down on illegal immigration, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Wednesday pardoned 18 immigrants in an effort to free them from the threat of deportation or other immigration-related issues.

The pardons targeted those who had committed low-level offenses and had demonstrated significant rehabilitation since their convictions, Alphonso David, the governor’s chief counsel, said in an interview.

“New York is a state of immigrants,” Mr. David said. “And most of these individuals made mistakes decades ago, and have been contributing members to our society.”

With the new slate of pardons, Mr. Cuomo nearly tripled the number he had issued explicitly to stave off deportations, his office said. Before Wednesday, the governor had pardoned seven people for that purpose.

What would be humor based irony here would be if ICE suddenly picked these illegal aliens up, stating that they hadn’t been on the deportation radar beforehand.

But, this is all about #Resist, and the illegal aliens are the pawns. Does anyone think Cuomo really cares about the illegals? Well, if they’re trimming his hedges and cutting his lawn, sure, but, otherwise, they are just objects to be used to jab at Trump.

2017 Was The Year Climate Denial Died Or Something

Is it worth mentioning yet again that no one was denying that the climate changes, and has changed, they are just arguing that the changes are not mostly/solely caused by the actions of mankind? Because that is the debate: causation. But, Warmists will be Warmists, and Cult of Climastrology member Leo Barasi is worried about something else (via Eric Worrall)

2017 was the year climate denial died

Reality has killed climate denial – but apathy will still condemn the world to dangerous global warming unless it is confronted, argues Leo Barasi

2017 has left climate deniers with nowhere to go. Merciless hurricanes, heatwaves, floods, and droughts swept the planet all year, along with impossible-sounding fires – in icy Greenland; and in California in December. All are an early taste of what life on a hotter world would be like. Public opinion recognises the link with climate change, with international polls showing that worries about global warming are now at record levels with vanishingly few people thinking it’s a hoax.

Oh, goodness, some weather events happened! We should totally believe that they were caused by Someone Else driving a fossil fueled vehicles!!!!!!!!

Yet the climate war is far from over. While climate denial may have lost, there is another problem: climate apathy. Most people understand climate change is happening, but just don’t think about it much and don’t accept they should change their lives to deal with it. This matters because stopping dangerous climate change won’t be possible with only popular measures like replacing coal power stations with solar panels. There will have to be difficult changes too, like cutting emissions from flying and meat eating. So long as many people are apathetic, governments will avoid the hard changes that are also needed.

One long-standing reason for apathy is the way climate change often feels like a distant problem, something for polar bears and future generations. So it matters that climate change is now devastating places where emissions need to fall. Those of us who want faster action shouldn’t hold back from pointing out that this is what would become normal if emissions don’t fall.

Interestingly, climate apathy is something that can be assigned to members of the Cult of Climastrology. They are the ones who are constantly bleating about doom, whether it be future doom or ZOMG CLIMATE CHANGE IS HERE!!!!!!!, yet, they take few actions in their own lives to mitigate their own carbon footprint. They’re super enthused to institute carbon taxes/fees on Other People, along with restrictions on That Guy and the way they run their lives, but Warmists are rather apathetic about doing more themselves other than go to a rally (in a fossil fueled vehicle) and complain online.

Anonymous People Say Trump Legal Team Readies Attack On Flynn

The Washington Post’s Carol Leonning crafts yet another piece meant to be a hit-job on President Trump, which features absolutely zero named sources for the administration. But, hey, we’re totally supposed to Trust this

Trump legal team readies attack on Flynn’s credibility

President Trump’s legal team plans to cast former national security adviser Michael T. Flynn as a liar seeking to protect himself if he accuses the president or his senior aides of any wrongdoing, according to three people familiar with the strategy.

The approach would mark a sharp break from Trump’s previously sympathetic posture toward Flynn, whom he called a “wonderful man” when Flynn was ousted from the White House in February. Earlier this month, the president did not rule out a possible pardon for Flynn, who is cooperating with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

You can see how this is meant to paint the picture that Trump is a big meanie, is vindictive, and as a person who did something wrong and is going on the attack to protect themselves.

Attorneys for Trump and his top advisers have privately expressed confidence that Flynn does not have any evidence that could implicate the president or his White House team. But since Flynn’s cooperation agreement with prosecutors was made public earlier this month, the administration has been strategizing how to neutralize him in case the former national security adviser does make any claims.

Trump’s legal team has seized on Flynn’s agreement with prosecutors as fodder for a possible defense, if necessary. In court filings, the retired lieutenant general admitted that he lied to the FBI about conversations he had with the Russian ambassador to the United States during the December 2016 transition.

“He’s said it himself: He’s a liar,” said one person helping craft the strategy who was granted anonymity to describe private conversations.

Was all this based on one quote? Was it made it? We have no idea because there are zero named sources. Is the legal team doing this? Possibly? Legal teams strategize. How can we possibly trust the news media when their hit-jobs feature anonymous sources on a constant basis? Especially a media that is so rabidly anti-Trump?
