NY Times Wants To Know Where Mitch McConnell’s Climate Plan Is Or Something

Democrats are pretty upset about being forced to vote on the Green New Deal resolution, because how dare lawmakers vote on proposals submitted?

Where’s Your Climate Plan, Mr. McConnell?

For those wondering if it was still possible for the Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, to raise his cynicism game, Tuesday’s show vote on the Green New Deal supplied a resounding “yes.”

Of all the pressing business Mr. McConnell could be tackling, he devoted precious floor time to the resolution introduced last month by the Democrats Ed Markey, the junior senator from Massachusetts, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a House freshman from New York. A grand reimagining of America’s environmental and economic landscape, the Green New Deal is not a policy proposal. It is a statement of values — a nonbinding resolution that even its champions do not expect to become law. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez has called it “a vision document.”

So, this resolution about our planetary emergency, as in, if we don’t do something now we’re doomed in 12 years, wasn’t worth the time to vote? Strange.

The Senate majority leader, like so much of his party, has zero interest in climate change — or rather, he has no interest in pursuing policies to address what many regard as the defining crisis of our time. Mr. McConnell is, however, passionate about making life politically awkward for the opposition. With their base voters fired up about climate change, dozens of Democratic lawmakers have embraced the Green New Deal, including at least half a dozen 2020 presidential contenders. Even so, the resolution’s sweeping ambitions — built around a huge infrastructure investment and a shift to carbon-free energy — strike more than a few Democrats, especially moderates, as unrealistic and politically perilous.

So, wait, ‘climate change’ is the defining crisis of our time, the resolution was offered, and it was a Bad Thing that McConnell held a vote on it?

The Green New Deal is by no means a fully baked proposal for combating climate change. But for all its flaws, it is a more promising first step than the Republican leaders’ chosen strategy of inaction and sneering denial.

So, a first step that shouldn’t be voted on?

Graham, Durbin Introduce Amnesty For Dreamers Act

Lindsay Graham has done some good things in the era of Trump, but, this is not one of them. He’s still on the amnesty bandwagon

(Washington Post) Sens. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) and Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.) reintroduced long-stalled legislation Tuesday to create a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children.

The legal status of “dreamers,” as those immigrants are commonly known, has been a major flash point in the immigration policy debate since President Trump rolled back an Obama-era protection from deportation. He was later blocked by a federal appeals court, but dreamers still live with uncertainty. (snip)

“This is a matter of simple American fairness and justice,” Durbin said in a statement.

The Dream Act would allow young adults to stay in the United States if they came to the country as children, graduated high school or obtained a GED, and pursued college, military service or at least three years of employment.

More than 2 million people could be eligible.

In reality, it would end up with more than 2 million, and it would allow those who illegally brought the kids to stay. It also applies to people who are in Temporary Protected Status and Deferred Enforced Departure status to stay, and will have few enforcement and border control methods included. It rewards illegal behavior and entices people to do this in the future.

Bummer: ‘Climate Change’ Cold Causes Glacier To Start Growing

A major Greenland glacier that was one of the fastest shrinking ice and snow masses on Earth is growing again, a new NASA study finds.

The Jakobshavn glacier around 2012 was retreating about 1.8 miles and thinning nearly 130 feet annually. But it started growing again at about the same rate in the past two years, according to a study in Monday’s Nature Geoscience.

Of course, there has to be naysaying

Study authors and outside scientists think this is temporary.

“That was kind of a surprise. We kind of got used to a runaway system,” said Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland ice and climate scientist Jason Box. “The good news is that it’s a reminder that it’s not necessarily going that fast. But it is going.”

Why is it happening?

A natural cyclical cooling of North Atlantic waters likely caused the glacier to reverse course, said study lead author Ala Khazendar, a NASA glaciologist on the Oceans Melting Greenland (OMG) project. Khazendar and colleagues say this coincides with a flip of the North Atlantic Oscillation — a natural and temporary cooling and warming of parts of the ocean that is like a distant cousin to El Nino in the Pacific.

The water in Disko Bay, where Jakobshavn hits the ocean, is about 3.6 degrees cooler than a few years ago, study authors said.

While this is “good news” on a temporary basis, this is bad news on the long term because it tells scientists that ocean temperature is a bigger player in glacier retreats and advances than previously thought, said NASA climate scientist Josh Willis, a study co-author.

Over the decades the water has been and will be warming from man-made climate change, he said, noting that about 90 percent of the heat trapped by greenhouse gases goes into the oceans.

See? Growing is natural, shrinking is strictly your fault for driving a fossil fueled vehicle instead of taking the train and eating burgers instead of insects.

Democrats seize on ‘pocketbook issues’ after Mueller report ends impeachment talk

Democrats pivoted Tuesday from investigation and impeachment to “kitchen table pocketbook issues,” acknowledging that the special counsel’s report took from them a line of attack but saying President Trump gave them a new opening this week to go back to talking about Obamacare.

Liberal pressure groups said Mr. Trump should still face legal consequences, but most Democratic representatives on Capitol Hill said Robert Mueller’s finding of no conspiracy to subvert the 2016 presidential election gives their party an opportunity to talk about issues voters care about.

“The conversation has now shifted already, in a day, to health care, and Republicans know they’re in trouble,” said Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat.

Democrats hurtled into their new era by taunting the Trump administration’s refusal late Monday to defend any part of the 2010 health care law.

The Justice Department took the stance that if the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate penalty is gone, then the rest of the law must fall.

Uh huh

Those are the issues that carried the party to victory in November, said House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem S. Jeffries, and they are what Democrats need to focus on now.

“We didn’t run on impeachment, we didn’t win the House of Representatives on impeachment, we’re not focused on impeachment,” the New York Democrat said. “We’re going to continue to focus on the issues that are of importance to the American people.” (big snip)

“Nowhere in the ‘For the People’ agenda does it talk about Russia,” said Mr. Jeffries, name-checking the Democrats’ 2018 platform. “Nowhere in the ‘For the People’ agenda does it talk about collusion. Nowhere in the ‘For the People’ agenda does it talk about obstruction of justice.”

In fairness, most of the rank and file Democrats, the ones you almost never hear mentioned, do not yammer about impeachment and investigation and stuff. But, other than Schumer and Pelosi, most of the vocal ones are talking about it, and

Democrats are still fishing for investigations. The House Judiciary Committee requested documents from more than 80 people and entities in Mr. Trump’s orbit, and investigations have been opened into matters such as immigration policy and negotiations with Russia.

There are dozens of investigations by Democrats in the House, who want everything, even Trump’s taxes from when he was a private citizen. Unhinged Democrats in NY are further investigating his business in a pure fishing expedition. The unhinged moonbat base wants them to keep investigating. They do not care about pocketbook issues in the least. So, the Mueller report won’t end anything for them.

And, by pocketbook issues, Democrats mean taking more money out of your pocket.

Senator Mike Lee Uses Hilarious Posters In Green New Deal Debate, AOC Melts Down

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was already mad that the U.S. Senate was going to be debating and voting on her Green New Deal resolution, because how dare lawmakers do that! Notice that co-sponsor, Sen. Ed Markey, is mostly quiet about this, because he’s a pro and understands how the political game is played. AOC was also ticked that they’d dare do this in the Senate because it was a House resolution! Totally forgetting that Markey is a Senator, and submitted it to the Senate. Anyhow

(Salt Lake Tribune) To poke fun at a liberal plan to tackle climate change, Sen. Mike Lee on Tuesday took to the Senate floor with a poster of President Ronald Reagan riding a dinosaur while firing a machine gun.

No joke.

The Utah Republican, a serious conservative not generally known for prop-supported political stunts, said his point was that the Democrats’ Green New Deal was as absurd as the poster he was showing.

“I rise today to consider the green new deal with the seriousness it deserves,” Lee said.

Wait, it gets better

“I’m not immediately afraid of what the Green New Deal would do to our economy and our government,” Lee said. “After all, this isn’t going to pass, not today, not any time soon certainly. Rather, after reading the Green New Deal, I’m mostly afraid of not being able to get through this speech with a straight face.”

“The aspirations of the proposal have been called radical. They have been called extreme,” Lee added. “But mostly they’re ridiculous. There isn’t a single serious idea here. Not one.”

So, Rep Thin Skin had a fit

She then went and played the Female Victim Card

Like many other women + working people, I occasionally suffer from impostor syndrome: those small moments, especially on hard days, where you wonder if the haters are right.

But then they do things like this to clear it right up.

If this guy can be Senator, you can do anything.

She’s really not ready to swim in the deep end with the big kids with this kind of whining.

The Daily Caller has the video of Lee’s speech, well worth the watch.

The vote was 0-57 for moving it forward, with 43 Democrats voting present, and Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.), Doug Jones (D-Ala.) and Angus King (I-Maine) voting with Republicans against the measure.

Good News: ICE Is Tracking Illegal Aliens Through Massive License Plate Database

ICE Tracking Immigrants with Huge License Plate Database

ICE is watching you. Or at least there’s a good chance it is, according to a new report from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

The nonprofit released documents detailing the existence of a large, privately maintained database tracking license plate numbers and driver location data, which ICE—Immigration and Customs Enforcement—is using to find those who might be in the U.S. illegally.

Maintained by Vigilant Solutions, the system contains billions of location points now available to the agency on a $6.1 million contract.

“ICE has long embraced technology to target immigrants,” writes ACLU attorney Vasudha Talla. “Now it’s taking surveillance to an unprecedented level to target vulnerable communities—and sweeping up everyone else in the process.

The database includes billions of of records, used to track criminals.

More than 9,000 ICE agents have access to the information, raising concerns over the privacy and civil liberty implications—not only for the immigrants tracked by ICE, but also for the millions of drivers whose personal details are at their disposal.

The agency does not use information to find individuals “who have no connection to ICE investigatory or enforcement activities,” ICE spokesman Matthew Bourke tells The Washington Post. But police departments—which can also buy access to the database—have famously abused location data in the past to track acquantainces, lovers, and journalists, among others.

Well, perhaps it has been abused, but, no one has accused anyone in ICE of using it improperly, and if they can use it to catch illegals, great. Why are illegals driving in the first place? Why are states giving them official documents, driver’s licenses, which give them legal status? They shouldn’t be here killing Americans

(Fox10) A 16 year old illegal immigrant who is accused of causing a crash that killed a local woman was back in court Monday, this time with an interpreter.

Domingo Marcos Diego is charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the the accident scene.

The victim was Sonya Jones, a local teacher.

Friends and family members were in court Monday.

Authorities say Marcos Diego crossed the center turn lane on Highway 98 in Semmes last week and ran into Jones’ car head on.

He was denied bond, because, otherwise, ICE could pick him up and deport him. Though they usually let the justice system deal with these types of scumbags.

Senate To Vote On Green New Deal Today, Dems Rather Upset

I fully expect most Democrats in the Senate to vote “present“, a notion they discussed back when this turd of a resolution was released and McConnell stated would get a vote

McConnell to put Green New Deal to vote, forcing Democrats to go on record

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will put the Green New Deal to a vote on Tuesday in a move that will force Democrats to take an official stand on the measure and thus pit the party’s moderates against its progressive wing.

“I could not be more glad that the American people will have the opportunity to learn precisely where each one of their senators stand on the “Green New Deal,” McConnell tweeted. “A radical, top-down, socialist makeover of the entire U.S. economy.”

The resolution, which amounts to an ambitious overhaul of the U.S. to combat climate change, undoubtedly will not pass in the GOP-controlled Senate. But Republicans say that the vote will allow them to better gauge Democrats’ commitment to its radical proposals.

U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., has derided the planned vote as a political stunt and accused Republicans on Saturday of “wasting votes in Congress.”

Are Senate Democrats, many of whom have gone on the record (just not with a vote) in saying they support this, especially those running for president, still going to go weasel and vote present?

The New York Times reports that most Democrats will vote present on Tuesday because the terms of the resolution have not been fully flushed out or discussed among the party.

Yup. Weasels.

NY Times: Trump And Republicans Pounce In Post-Mueller Washington!

Interestingly, many in the media had Democrats pouncing yesterday, which is usually only a Republican thing. And the NY Times did have a very funny headline

But, back to Republicans pouncing/seizing

Trump and Republicans Seek to Turn the Tables in Post-Mueller Washington

President Trump and his Republican allies went on the offensive on Monday, vowing to pursue and even punish those responsible for the Russia investigation now that the special counsel has wrapped up without implicating him or his campaign in a criminal conspiracy to influence the 2016 election.

Mr. Trump, grim faced and simmering with anger, denounced adversaries who have pounded him for two years over Russian election interference, calling them “treasonous” people who are guilty of “evil” deeds and should be investigated themselves. “Those people will certainly be looked at,” he said.

On Capitol Hill, the Republican chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee announced he would do just that while also calling for a new special counsel to look at the origins of the last one. White House officials and Republican lawmakers demanded the resignation of a Democratic committee chairman investigating the Russia matter (that would be Adam Schiff), and Mr. Trump’s re-election campaign lobbied television networks to blackball Democrats who advanced the collusion theory.

And why shouldn’t they? This whole thing was based on a manufactured document from sore losers upset that 2016 didn’t go they way they wanted. From the minute Hillary lost Democrats have been manufacturing ways to get rid of Trump, the Constitutionally elected President. Schiff and so many other Democrats have stated there is evidence ad nauseum, but have yet to show it, and the Mueller investigation stated there wasn’t any. So, let’s see all the documents and FISA warrants which enabled the federal government the ability to investigate a presidential candidate. Let’s see the email and other document trails. Let’s see where this leads.

The approach, if it lasts, contrasts with those of other presidents who survived major scandals. After the Iran-contra affair, President Ronald Reagan happily dropped the subject and focused on arms control talks with the Soviet Union and other issues. After being acquitted at his Senate impeachment trial, President Bill Clinton was just as eager to move on to Social Security and other initiatives.

But Mr. Trump and his allies on Monday sought to put his adversaries on the defensive and cement the view that Mr. Mueller’s report represents complete vindication. Mr. Mueller found no conspiracy between Mr. Trump’s campaign and Russia, but he pointedly declined to exonerate the president on obstruction of justice, according to a Justice Department letter to lawmakers on Sunday.

Yeah, but, let’s face it, Iran-Contra did contravene the law, and Bill Clinton did actually commit crimes. Trump and his campaign didn’t commit crimes, nor conspire with Russia. And I don’t see the NY Times telling the Democrats to just stop, to quite while their behind, to stop being sore losers.

Mr. Schiff, for his part, said he “would not be intimidated” by the Republicans and stood by his comments about public evidence of collusion. He did concede that after reading Mr. Mueller’s full report he would probably need to reorient the Intelligence Committee’s inquiry into possible foreign influence over the president.

“We have a constitutional obligation to make sure that the president and the people are not compromised by a foreign power, and that’s what we intend to do,” he said.

Those are the last two paragraphs of the article (which is dangerously close to an opinion piece): where was the notion of Democrats just moving on and trying to heal the national divides?
