The NY Times Editorial Board thinks they’re on to something
Best Treatment for the Coronavirus? Paid Sick Leave
The Federal Reserve did what it could Tuesday to offset the growing economic impact of the coronavirus by announcing a supersize reduction in its benchmark interest rate — the first time the Fed has acted between its regularly scheduled meetings since the financial crisis in 2008.
But the Fed is ill equipped to limit the effect of a global pandemic alone. Lower interest rates may eventually soothe financial markets and help to hold down borrowing costs, but the Fed can’t speed the reopening of Chinese factories or reverse Facebook’s decision to cancel an annual developers conference that last year brought 5,000 visitors to San Francisco.
The feces and used drug needles, along with all the homeless living and peeing in the streets, probably didn’t help, either.
The real work falls on the rest of the government. The first step should have been simple: ensuring that testing for the coronavirus was readily available and, better yet, free. But even after weeks of lead time for the virus’s inevitable arrival, access to testing remains woefully inadequate as the domestic death toll rose to nine on Tuesday.
Well, first they had to actually come up with a test for it. They don’t magically appear.
At this point, the crisis also demands unorthodox solutions. To restrict the spread of the coronavirus, the government needs to put limits on commerce. The best way to protect people, and the economy, is to limit economic activity. That is an unfortunate but inescapable truth. Public health officials will need to impose quarantines, businesses will need to cancel meetings. And most of all, the problem now and going forward is making sure that sick workers stay home. That means not forcing employees to choose between penury and working while coughing.
Now, just imagine that President Trump institutes quarantines and stuff: the same editorial board will freak out. Consider the freakout when it was Obama and both Dem and GOP governors trying to have quarantines for Ebola. Now magnify that by about 10.
Congress can help by mandating that workers receive paid time off if they fall ill, or if they need to care for an ailing family member. Such a policy is necessary both to impede the spread of the virus and its economic harm. Roughly one-quarter of workers in the private sector — about 32 million people — are not entitled to any paid sick days. Absent legislation, they face a choice between endangering the health of co-workers and customers and calling in sick and losing their wages and perhaps also their jobs.
Government required private market paid sick leave is something the Modern Socialists have been pushing, because they really just want to pander to low wage workers to get their votes. This is the politicization of the Coronavirus to push it again.
But, just because you have paid sick leave doesn’t mean you’ll take it. Some companies are great about telling sick people to stay home, others, not so much. At my current company the boss wants you to stay home if you are sick, and sets the bar by staying home himself. And telling the managers to go home if sick. My previous company was kind of middle of the road, since we would have really sick managers working and spreading the sickness. Before that, they made you feel bad if you took the day off sick.
If the federal government fails to contain the spread of the coronavirus, and the economic outlook darkens, such a broad-based stimulus may well become necessary. But targeted policies — like sick days — are likely to remain the most effective form of response.
And, of course, the policy would stick around forever. Because it’s not about Coronavirus, it’s about the Government dictating how companies operate, because you know even more policies would be added on, and pandering to those in low wage jobs which usually do not have paid leave.
You know the best policy? People staying away from areas with Coronavirus. Not traveling when you’ve been in contact with those areas. Because the spread seems to be more about people who are failing personally rather than people who won’t stay home when sick because they don’t get paid for it.

The bedwetting, doomsaying, climate strikers are super upset that the EU isn’t doing what they Demand they do on ‘climate change’ before even knowing what the plan is
Climate strikers: Open letter to EU leaders on why their new climate law is ‘surrender
This is an open letter to EU leaders at the European Commission, European Parliament and member states from 34 youth climate activists, including Greta Thunberg. The European Commission will release its proposal for the EU climate law on 4 March.
Any climate law or policy that is not based on the current best available science and does not include the global aspect of equity or climate justice – principles at the very heart of the Paris Agreement – will do more harm than good.
Such a law sends a strong signal that real, sufficient action is being taken when in fact it’s not.
It also suggests that you, our elected leaders, fully understand the situation we’re in and that we can “fix the climate crisis†within today’s system without making any sacrifices.
The hard fact is that neither the awareness nor the politics needed are anywhere in sight. We are in a crisis that has never once been treated as a crisis.
The EU is already pretty strict on Hotcoldwetdry, and has tons of taxes and such. That’s apparently not enough for these climate cultists, despite not even knowing what the plan is.
For more than 1.5 years we have been sacrificing our education, protesting against your inaction. Last September more than 7.5 million people across the globe took to the streets – demanding that you unite behind the science and give us a safe future.
Well, that’s on them. If they want to blow off their own education, that’s on them. Maybe they should take up a hobby instead of attempting to force their Beliefs on Everyone Else. And those beliefs seem to include carbon budgets, and
“Net zero emissions by 2050†for the EU equals surrender. It means giving up. We don’t just need goals for just 2030 or 2050. We, above all, need them for 2020 and every following month and year to come.
What’s the “carbon pollution” output for the Internet publication of this open letter? When will the kids give up all trappings of a modern life?
They also want “climate justice”, which they do not really explain beyond going after fossil fuels companies. And they also…no, that’s it. That’s all these kids have. Yet, we are supposed to take them seriously.

Really, you can apply this argument to most of the leading gun grabbers, who so often either have their own firearm or armed security
WATCH: Bloomberg Tries to Defend Using Armed Guards While Pushing Gun Control
An attendee at the March 2, 2020, Fox News town hall asked Mike Bloomberg why he pushes gun control for the common man but surrounds himself with armed security.
The attendee said, “You have an armed security detail that is likely equipped with the same firearms and magazines you seek to ban the common citizen from owning. Does your life matter more than mine or my family’s?â€
Bloomberg responded by admitting to having an armed detail, and suggesting he needs armed protection because he gets more threats than the common man.
On February 3, 2020, Breitbart News reported that Bloomberg enjoyed armed security even as he campaigned on a platform of gun control for the common man.
The New York Post reported on Bloomberg referring to the NYPD as his “own army,†while Mayor of New York City. And on January 25, 2019, NRA-ILA reported that after his tenure as mayor ended, “Bloomberg hired some of the same [NYPD] officers from his security detail to work for him privately.†Yet he continued to push gun control for average Americans.
https://twitter.com/jason_howerton/status/1234645209935421440
Bloomberg is the man behind Mom’s Demand and Everytown, groups that want way more than just expanded background checks. They want to turn the whole country into NJ and California and NYC, to have “universal background checks” which require firearms registration, to tax the hell out of firearms and ammunition, the current 4th Amendment violating Red Flag laws, and then to keep going, right up to what New Zealand has just done, which is ban most firearms from private ownership.
Of course, the Big Wigs like Mike would still have armed security, along with those gun grabbers like Alyssa Milano, who would be allowed to keep their own sem-auto pistols. Politicians and such would have the benefit of government armed security, typically carrying weapons that are already banned from private ownership right now.
Of course, Nanny Mike’s chances of being the Democrat nominee are about the same as you getting that $50,000 payoff from that lottery scratchoff. But, he pretty much wants the same as all the others. Sleepy Joe has long pushed this stuff, yet has had his own Secret Service armed protection for a long, long time. His plan is pretty extreme, including registration or buy back, bans, licensing, and so much more. Comrade Bernie’s plan is almost the same. The rest of the Dems still in, but with no shot, have plans that all look almost the same, because they are all coming from the same place, and like Obamacare is a step towards a government run health system, these plans are steps towards the New Zealand solution for guns.

At what point do we consider this Warmist doomsday cult to be child abusers?
One in five UK children report nightmares about climate change
One in five children are having nightmares about climate change, according to a British survey on Tuesday, as students globally stage protests over a lack of action to curb global warming.
About 17% of children in Britain said worries about climate change were disturbing their sleep while 19% said these fears were giving them nightmares.
The survey of 2,000 children aged eight to 16, conducted by pollster Savanta-ComRes for BBC Newsround, also found that two in five, or 41%, did not trust adults to tackle the climate crisis. (snip)
Emma Citron, a consultant clinical child psychologist based in London, said young people were clearly fearful about climate change with the survey finding 58% were worried about the impact that climate change will have on their lives.
“Public figures like David Attenborough and Greta Thunberg have helped young people to voice their worries and we have to make sure that we as adults listen to them and … help them become involved in positive change,” she said in a statement.
“We all need to support them not to feel hopeless but rather to present to them hopeful and balanced messages about their futures and ensure that they get the right professional help if their anxiety is unduly high.”
It would be helpful if the mental health workers themselves weren’t so often taking the side of the CoC, because that just embeds that their fears are real, rather than just part of a complete scam. The Credentialed Media, along with cultists like St. Greta and David, do not help, not when all they proclaim is doom and gloom.
Interestingly, most of these kids don’t want to give up all their trappings of a modern life.
As a sidebar, yes, the Cultists are blaming/linking the horrible tornado strike in Nashville, for which 19 are confirmed dead at the time I’m writing this, to ‘climate change’. Because they are ghouls and cultists. But, I’m not going to post tweets.

Has anyone told CNN that pretty much every Democrat’s Medicare for All (government run health insurance) scheme is similar? Of course, Comrade Bernie iw the leader in all this, and his plan is putting the comrade in Comrade
Here’s what Bernie Sanders’ ‘Medicare for All’ proposal actually says
Sen. Bernie Sanders has been pushing a single-payer health care system for decades. It’s the centerpiece of his vision for a more democratic socialist America. There are several such proposals for a single-payer system, but what’s below is from the 100-page draft bill most recently introduced, with tweaks, by Sanders in 2019.
That CNN is deciding to fisk the plan now shows how concerned they are with the potential for Comrade Bernie to be the Democrat nominee
The Medicare for All plan would leave intact the current infrastructure of doctors, hospitals and other health care providers, but nationalize the health insurance industry. Nearly all the money individuals and employers currently pay into the system as well as much of the money states pay would, under Sanders’ plan, instead go through the federal government.
Here are the most important elements:
They start at page one with excerpts, then offer some commentary. Here’s the first commentary
The first thing to note is that Sanders’ proposal has only 14 co-sponsors in the Senate. That’s not even a majority of Democrats. That’s less than a third of the 60 votes usually required to overcome a filibuster and pass major legislation, although he has said he would use budget rules to maneuver around the practice of the filibuster in order to get Medicare for All passed.
Well, that’s not good. Just 14. Then we learn
In Sanders’ proposal, everyone who is a US resident, including undocumented immigrants, gets coverage. That would be a likely point of contention with this plan. There is a prohibition on traveling to the US for free medical care.
That’s right, you get to pay for the healthcare of people banned from being in the country per federal law. We then learn that abortion on demand will be enshrined in federal law, and Other People will get to pay for irresponsible people to have abortions. Citizens will also be automatically enrolled in Comrade Bernie’s scheme.
Further, his scheme will ban all private insurance. All. Even nations like Canada and Great Britain allow some private insurance. So, that would put around 2.5 million people out of work, and kill numerous companies. The only exclusion would be for those few things not covered by Comrade Bernie’s scheme, like cosmetic surgery.
This is the most controversial element of this bill. Sanders would make it illegal to sell private health insurance that covers the benefits offered by Medicare for All. This provision would certainly be subject to lawsuits. A subsequent section says additional benefits not covered by Medicare for All (cosmetic surgery, for instance) could be covered by a supplemental insurance plan.
This is the nationalization of an industry in an unprecedented way. It’s important to note here that about one-third of the American seniors who currently get Medicare get it through private Medicare Advantage plans offered by health insurance companies. Those plans would go away.
“Nationalization of an industry.” There’s no way to not make those words sound like Big Government authoritarianism.
One last thing to note is how much power is given to Health And Human Services and other agencies
This would be a massive new federal bureaucracy, replacing, by some estimates, 2 million US insurance and health industry jobs. Setting up, enforcing and evolving a health care system for about 320 million people and transitioning more than 200 million from a private system to a public one would be a gargantuan undertaking. Sanders’ proposal imagines a regional administration system that would coordinate individual states and filter up to the HHS secretary, who would be in charge of setting policies. An official ombudsman would collect and hear grievances.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, ie, Obamacare, gave HHS and the IRS massive new powers and abilities to make rules (the contraceptive mandate was created out of thing air, as it is not actually in Ocare). That’s nothing compared to the rule making ability in Comrade Bernie’s scheme.
By replacing the entire health insurance industry, the government could displace 2 million workers, according to some estimates. Some of those would find jobs in the new government systems. Others could be eligible for up to five years of temporary assistance.
The nationalization of an industry. Of course, there is way more not being touched on, because it’s not in the bill, such as how this will all be paid for, and how people will respond to the Government controlling their health insurance by being their insurer. And how much this will mess up the actually health care providers due to low payments.

Hey, good news, this is rather a new one from the Cult of Climastrology, at least in positioning it this way. But, hey, like any doomsday cult, the CoC has to continuously find new points of Doom to keep the fear going
Beach bummer: Half of world’s sandy coastlines may vanish this century
Half the world’s sandy beaches may be wiped away by the end of the century due to rising sea levels and other climate change effects, with Australia, Canada, Chile, Mexico, China and the United States among the hardest hit, researchers said on Monday.
Many beaches that attract frolicking vacationers may be turned into rocky remnants as rising seas, changing weather patterns and other factors erode sandy shorelines that now account for more than a third of global sea coasts, they added.
A large proportion of shoreline in densely populated areas is projected to be lost.
“Touristic areas which have sandy beaches as their main selling point will probably face strong consequences,” said coastal oceanographer Michalis Vousdoukas of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre in Ispra, Italy, lead author of the study published in the journal Nature Climate Change. (snip)
A rise in global sea levels has accelerated in recent decades, with the major causes seen as thermal expansion – water expands as it warms – and melting of land-based ice such as glaciers and ice sheets.
Would this be an acceleration from the completely average sea rise of the 20th Century, with no real scientific proof that the averageness was mostly/solely caused by Mankind’s carbon pollution? Would this be an acceleration where we are never told exactly what it is, or shown data? And why is this always positioned as “may”?
The researchers analyzed satellite images showing shoreline changes during the past three decades and applied these trends to two climate change scenarios looking forward, one envisioning a moderate mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions linked to climate change and the other envisioning high emissions.
Oh, that’s why. See, if we implement a tax and have the government take over your lives (do the Warmist scientists ever realize this will apply to themselves?), it may not happen
By 2050, the researchers projected losses of 13.6% to 15.2% of global beaches, amounting to 22,430 to 25,172 miles (36,097 to 40,511 km) of lost sandy shorelines. By 2100, they projected losses of 35.7% to 49.5% of beaches spanning 59,068 to 81,862 miles (95,061 to 131,745 km).
They should project what it will be in 5 to 10 years, that way we can properly evaluate their scaremongering prognostications. Because no one is really going to remember this prognostication in 2050 and 2100. That’s kind of the point, though. Scare people without having to put their money where their mouths are.

NBC News’ Joe Cabosky is making a point that he probably regrets
Homophobia hurt Pete Buttigieg — as much as America wished it didn’t
It seems so long ago that the first openly gay candidate won the Iowa caucuses. Mere weeks later, the Pete Buttigieg campaign is now past tense, as the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, announced Sunday that he was dropping out of the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Wherever that leaves Buttigieg and his future political prospects — or any future LGBTQ candidate — this moment affords us an opportunity to ask ourselves where the nation as a whole really is in terms of acceptance of LGBTQ candidates.
To be clear, I’m not arguing that Buttigieg was unsuccessful only because of homophobia. But lessons from this cycle do allow us to be honest about the challenges that LGBTQ candidates face. While these issues may not have gotten a lot of attention in 2020, Buttigieg’s campaign demonstrates how many problems of homophobia still remain.
After Buttigieg won Iowa, I often heard things akin to homophobia not mattering much anymore. Sure, there were Rush Limbaugh’s homophobic remarks. Sure, there was the Buttigieg voter in Iowa asking to have her vote back upon learning he was married to a man. But these were isolated incidents, no?
All cycle, a Gallup poll was used as an example of how accepting Americans have become, with 76 percent of those surveyed saying they’d vote for a gay person for president. While that sounds high, that still means one-quarter of the country admits that it’s a nonstarter. That’s a lot of votes lost right off the bat.
Now, despite Joe mentioning Rush a few times, and going through “realities of homophobia” and stuff, who, primarily, was voting in the Democratic Party primaries?
That’s right. Democrats. Democrat voters. The same ones who drove out the black people running for the Democratic Party presidential nomination, along with most of the women, have now driven out Mayor Pete because they are, apparently, homophobic. Despite yammering about the 2012 NC gay marriage constitutional amendment, bigotry, and so forth, it was Democrats who knocked Mayor Pete out of the race.
And they come from within the LGBTQ community as well. The sad irony was that Buttigieg was also attacked for not being “gay enough.†These criticisms came from the more progressive or activist left of the LGBTQ population, creating a conundrum for candidates from minority backgrounds who hold more moderate positions — ones that can be crucial in general elections.
Yeah, these were Democrats
Thus, for every step forward that Buttigieg’s campaign made for future candidates, it also exposed how far America needs to go in its acceptance of LGBTQ leaders.
Democrats knocked him out.

Tom Nelson has a better idea
The Greta Thunberg Foundation should pay for the environmental damage resulting from her #ClimateCult event. https://t.co/2CtdSusMwl
— Tom Nelson (@TomANelson) March 2, 2020
From the article
Hundreds have called for the organisers of a Greta Thunberg climate change rally to pay for damage caused to green space.
Around 15,000 people are believed to have attended Friday’s Bristol Youth Strike 4 Climate rally, churning up College Green and angering many.
A fundraiser was set up for repairs, which then resulted in calls for rally organisers to cover the costs.
The organiser said people had done their best in the muddy conditions. (snip)
The combination of thousands of people and heavy rain turned much of the grass into mud, angering some.
Gavin Mountjoy commented on Facebook: “Oh the irony, hundreds of people turning up to talk about our planet dying end up destroying a green area.”
Meh, the damage was really linked to ‘climate change’
Bullshit. The poor weather from the numerous storms we’ve had in the last few weeks contributed. Perhaps cause by……. climate change
