Trump could be charged with violating the Espionage Act, former DOJ national security chief says
The former chief of the Justice Department’s national security division said Tuesday that the search of Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Fla., suggests that the former president could be charged with violating the World War I-era Espionage Act.
That law has traditionally been used to target government leakers, such as former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. But it also “actually has provisions that apply to essentially the mishandling [of classified material] through gross negligence, permitting documents to be removed from their proper place, or to be lost, stolen or destroyed,” Mary McCord, a veteran federal prosecutor who headed DOJ’s national security division in the closing years of the Obama administration, told the Yahoo News “Skullduggery” podcast.
McCord said that the Espionage Act is one of two federal crimes that appear to apply to Trump’s reported conduct. He could also be charged, she said, with violating another federal statute that targets anyone who “willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, falsifies or destroys public records.”
OK, this speculation, a lot of others think this is related to the stupid J6 stuff. Regardless, if Trump is charged, how will the same media and Democrats react when they cheered on Hillary Clinton actually doing everything mentioned above and being let off the hook scott free? It really is a two tiered justice system, and it will tear the country apart further. You know there was no way in hell that the FBI performed a pre-dawn raid on Trump’s Mar-A-Lago residence without the knowledge of Merrick Garland and Joe Biden.

I’m surprised the Washington Post let him post this. Look, this is going to harden support for Trump to run again. Personally, I want some new blood, but, this will fire up the GOP voters (excluding the unhinged #NeverTrumpers who’ve given up all pretense of conservative leanings) to get out there, starting with the mid-terms.
The President is the source of all classification of materials, and if Mr Trump took classified documents to Mar-a-Lago while he was still President, he was perfectly within his legal rights.
Good point. Further, as then president, Trump’s residences would have had the approved containers to store such documents and with full time guards (secret service) there was zero danger of compromise. Unlike the more than 300 classified documents on Hillary’s server… connected to the internet.
Further still, Lots of former administration officials retain their access to classified information after they leave the administration. Remember Sandy Berger?
Thus, there was no crime here, not even alleged crime. Just more Democrats abusing government power… again.
It is far more likely they are searching for something to tie Trump to a Jan 6 conspiracy, so they can impeach him again.
It really doesn’t matter what they’re searching for. Sooner or later they will either find it or invent it. The federal “law enforcement” agencies have been framing Americans since Al Capone. Why do you think they could only get him on income tax evasion? What do you think 87,000 new IRS employees mean to the citizens of the US? They aren’t there to hassle the billionaire democrat donors, now are they? They are after “undisclosed income” they say.
So who has undisclosed income? Waiters, waitresses, bartenders, Uber drivers, doormen, taxi drivers, delivery people, Doordash and Grubhub people, and folks like that. Then there’s the small businessmen who if they actually paid 100% of their local, state and federal taxes would be out of business in a year which is why they are kinda overlooked most the time but the lockdown during Covid showed the feds they can lock them down and force them out of business and nobody but themselves care and they can always be offered checks as bribes to stay in their lane.
Still, I don’t see one single billionaire or even guys with 50+ million getting hassled in any way shape or form. UNLESS they have R after their name. Then it sucks to be them. Watch seizures, forfeitures and long drawn out legal cases designed to bankrupt businessmen to become the standard “enforcement” means of the near future.
After they have our jobs, businesses, money and property they will come for us just like their Nazi and commie teachers did. There is nothing new under the sun. They always use the same methods to eliminate their foes.
