Think Progress: Globull Warming Made Irene Worse

Because before 1980 (or pick a year that the Climate Alarmists like to start with), there were no such things as hurricanes, or, at least, they were never more than tiny things that weren’t really powerful. Also, you just knew that some alarmist would go down this super-highway of stupidity, despite being 1075 days since a hurricane made landfall in the United States. And we haven’t had a major hurricane, one that is category 3 or higher, hit since 2005. The last major hurricane to heat the eastern seaboard was Jeanne in 2004. Anyhow, here’s Think Progress’ Brad Johnson: How Global Warming Is Making Hurricane Irene Worse

Hurricane Irene is bearing down on the Outer Banks of North Carolina as a Category Two storm, and is expected to track a path of destruction up the densely populated Atlantic coast, with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg ordering the first-ever mandatory evacuation of low-lying areas of the city. As the U.S. government report “Global Climate Change Impacts in the US” summarized in 2009, warming of the oceans is causing Atlantic hurricanes to become more intense and dangerous:

Uh huh. The citations says that they have become more powerful since 1970. Perhaps Brad could explain that to the great Long Island hurricane of 1938, which had gusts up to 180mph. Or Hurricane Camille. Galveston hurricane of 1900. And, oh, hey, here’s a great list of monster hurricanes, all before 1970, and before CO2 was at 350ppm.

Brad, who doesn’t hold a degree in climatology, then gives four reasons, which are warmer oceans, sea level rise, more atmospheric vapor, and “increased extreme precipitation.” Do we really need to go down the roads with this absurdity? I think not. Been there, done that.

Millions of people and billions of dollars of property are at risk from this one storm, in this year of billion-dollar climate disasters. Global warming pollution is far from the only reason that Hurricane Irene shouldn’t be thought of as a “natural” disaster. Much of the devastating potential of Hurricane Irene will be a consequence of past decisions about land use, construction and coastal preservation, mitigated by the brave work of public servants under attack by Tea Party conservatives. Even as we have polluted the climate to increase the threat from Atlantic storms, we have overbuilt the increasingly vulnerable coasts. Although Irene is being described as a “once in a lifetime” threat, the weight of the evidence indicates that this storm is merely a harbinger of our dangerous future.

First, gotta love a liberal who decries cities even as they call for everyone to live in cities. Then we have the requisite attack on conservatives and love of government workers. CO2 as “pollution.” The dangerous future (yet, alarmists cannot make predictions in the short term). Finally, for all the hyperventilating by Brad, Irene kinda fizzled out. It was projected to come ashore as a category 3 hurricane. It didn’t. Category 1. That’s not to say it isn’t dangerous: it is, and you should take it seriously if you live in its path. But, strange how all that very warm water off the coast of SC and NC didn’t keep it at a Cat 3, eh?

Just goes to show that the left will use anything to prop up their cultish tenets, and always find a way to push their cult like beliefs. Expect more deranged and unhinged (not to mention un-scientific) reports over the next few days for the Cult of Gore.

At some point we are going to have to start institutionalizing these lunatics. As rational minds pay less and less attention to their hysterical shrieking they will become more and more unhinged. Eventually they will believe they need to take action because sentient life refuses to succumb to their disaster fantasies.
