AGW Today: What’s The Punch Line?

From the world of AGW, Even left now laughing at global warming

So-called “global warming” has shrunk from problem to punch line. And now, Leftists are laughing, too. It’s hard not to chuckle at the idea of Earth boiling in a carbon cauldron when the news won’t cooperate:

  • Nearly four inches of snow blanketed the United Arab Emirates’ Jebel Jais region for just the second time in recorded history on Jan. 24. Citizens were speechless. The local dialect has no word for snowfall.
  • Dutchmen on ice skates sped past windmills as canals in Holland froze in mid-January for the first time since 1997. Defense Minister Eimert van Middelkoop, who inhabits a renovated 17th Century windmill, stumbled on the ice and fractured his wrist.
  • January saw northern Minnesota’s temperatures plunge to 38 below zero, forcing ski-resort closures. A Frazee, Minnesota dog-sled race was cancelled, due to excessive snow. Snow whitened Surf City, North Carolina’s beaches. Days ago, ice glazed Florida’s citrus groves.

Oh, wait, that’s weather, I forgot. When it gets slightly warmer, it is climate. And, again, I do not disagree that the climate had warmed, with a big spike from the early 80’s through 1997. What I do disagree with is that Man was the primary or sole cause. If that was the case, wouldn’t the temps have continued to go up since 1998, rather then staying the same if not decreasing? Why do people like James Hansen have to falsify data?

“Not only is it false that human activity has any significant effect on global warming or the weather in general, but for the record, global warming is over,” retired Navy meteorologist Dr. Martin Hertzberg wrote on carbon-sense.com. The physical chemist and self-described “scientist and life-long liberal Democrat” added: “The average temperature of Earth’s atmosphere has declined over the last 10 years. From the El Nino Year of 1998 until Jan. 2007, it dropped a quarter of a degree Celsius (0.45 degrees Fahrenheit). From Jan 2007 to the spring of 2008, it dropped a whopping three-quarters of a degree Celsius (1.35 degrees Fahrenheit). Those data further prove that the fear-mongering hysteria about human-caused global warming is completely unjustified and is totally counterproductive to our Nation’s essential needs and security.”

“It is a tribute to the scientific ignorance of politicians and journalists that they keep regurgitating the nonsense about human-caused global warming,” veteran Left-wing commentator and Nation magazine columnist Alexander Cockburn wrote. “The greenhouse fear mongers rely on unverified, crudely oversimplified models to finger mankind’s sinful contribution — and carbon trafficking, just like the old indulgences, is powered by guilt, credulity, cynicism, and greed.”

Here’s the punch line

“The so-called ‘consensus’ on man-made global warming is not holding up,” Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., told his colleagues Jan. 8. “It is becoming increasingly clear that skepticism about man-made global warming fear is not a partisan left vs. right issue.”

So-called “global warming” has accomplished the impossible: It has united liberals and conservatives in laughter.

But, like a kid refusing to give up their ratty old bankie or teddie bear, the Disciples Of Gore will not give up their beliefs, and while they may profess to believe in science, it is more like faith, since the science doesn’t hold up. Besides, if AGW was so bad, don’t you think the Believers would actually practice what they preach?

No, global warming does not mean that every year will be successively warmer than the previous one. The main reason for the supposed downward trend is an El Nino in 1998 of historic proportions.

But, like a kid refusing to give up their ratty old bankie or teddie bear, the Disciples Of Gore will not give up their beliefs, and while they may profess to believe in science, it is more like faith, since the science doesn’t hold up.

The science doesn’t hold up to WHAT?! Please, tell me!

Besides, if AGW was so bad, don’t you think the Believers would actually practice what they preach?

Who is preaching something and not practicing it? We already went through this over and over, and yet you STILL think it’s a valid point?

Saying that Man is the only cause of global warming is putting up a straw man as an argument. There are many causes. BUT one is man. The global temps HAVE been rising not always in a straight line but we have not had a year with an average temp for 50 years. The fact that Holland has frozen canals for the first time since 1997 and that this ice is now considered unusual does not validate global cooling does it ? The US government says that 2008 was the 8th warmest year on record, out of 120+ years. http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/research/2008/ann/ann08.html
Wow -38 F sure is cold !! But of course it is 20 warmer than that states record cold.
So let’s see you do agree that it is getting warmer, but for some reason you still think that it is important to talk about snow in the UAE. Teach before cutting and pasting do you ever bother to do any fact checking ? If you did you would find that the last time it snowed in those mountains (elevation 5700′) was in 2004

Teach are you ever shamed when YOU post facts that are false ? Snow is not at all that uncommon there.

Sorry a – dash went missing from that link

Teach said: And, again, I do not disagree that the climate had warmed, with a big spike from the early 80’s through 1997.

But, even during that time period global warming stopped…several times, in fact – at least according to your “definition”(whenever temperature trends dip).

You claim the climate warmed between the early 80’s through 1997 yet clearly there were significant dips (even for five-year averages). How can you assert now that global warming has stopped?

  5. John Ryan says:

Teach the argument that global warming does not continue on a perfectly graphed line fails to accept any variables when it is broken down into one year intervals. To do that would be as silly as saying that because today Jan 30th is colder than yesterday Jan 29th proves that the earth is not getting warmer. However, you have already said that you now do believe that that earth is in a warming period. Do you believe that the 7 billion humans might possibly be able to affect their environment ? Does the environment have any effect on the climate ?
