I Can No Longer Support McCain And His Big Beer Veto!

Disturbing, very disturbing

John McCain issued a promise Tuesday that may cause a bit of unrest with a broad swath of voters:

“I will use the veto as needed. I will veto every single beer — bill with earmarks,” he said, as rumblings from the crowd could be heard. “And every single bill that we have come across my desk I will make them famous. I will veto them, you will know their names.”

But, what is his opinion on grog? 🙂

Anyhow, without looking, I bet the Nutroots is going nuts. Expect a “special report” from Keith Olberman (which 5 people will actually watch, but hundreds will cite.)

McCain was in the Navy, of course he loves grog!

I like that McCain is such a hawk on spending but earmarks are not going to make much of a difference. We have to get social security and Medicare under control and we have to stop borrowing so much money.

Unfortunately neither candidate has seriously addressed this issue.

  2. SS is a really volitite issue. When Clinton tried, he got skewered by the Dems. When Bush tried, same thing, and his plan wasn’t even as revolutionary as Clinton’s.

McCain is in a perfect position to bring it up, with his age, but, it can be really dangerous. Which is a shame, because it is very important. By the time you and I retire, the money will be gone.

Visit your local SS office sometime and listen to hear how much English you’ll hear. In my home town region it’s a push for their being more Russians than Meximix. I’d being willing to bet the pot that, most of them if not allllllll never paid a dime in!

A HUGE part of that plague is a direct result of the socialists employed there!

  4. Silke says:

The U.S. Social Security Administration has estimated that three quarters of undocumented immigrants pay payroll taxes, and that they contribute $6-7 billion in Social Security funds that they will be unable to claim. The problem with social security is not with illegal immigrants, the problem is many of the baby boomers who have been paying into the system their entire lives are now retiring.

  5. You are both correct, as it is a myriad of issues. Another one is that the investment return on the money that the gov’t takes from us at the point of a gun is low.

  6. forest hunter says:

Not trying to be contrary but,….. The U.S. Social Security Administration has estimated and if you actually believe the info from this self perpetuating agency, you got another think comin’.

First point, why would they need to estimate Silke, when they have the exact info? Clue bat upside the head here is that they have NO idea because they’re illegals and carry no paper trail!
Next point, undocumented immigrants pay payroll taxes are you joking? They CAN NOT pay because they are not documented man!

Your closing paragraph is partially true. Because there are retirements naturally monies paid out have a diverse effect on the total monies, at the disposal of the SS. However to say that The problem with SS is not with illegal immigrants …….do you realize what you just said? Because of one crime the other is WTF!!! , surely you jest!

Hunter said: Next point, undocumented immigrants pay payroll taxes are you joking? They CAN NOT pay because they are not documented man!

Yes they do. Taxes paid by undocumented immigrants go into the SSA’s “suspense file,” when the Social Security number does not match SSA’s records. In 2002, the suspense file grew by $56 billion in reported earnings, with about $7 billion in Social Security tax and $1.5 billion in Medicare tax paid. This tax contribution represents about 10% of the current Social Security surplus—the difference between what is being collected in Social Security taxes and what is being paid out in benefits.

Let’s say that the link you provided from the unbiased, upstanding fish wrapper aka the NYT, is trying to be honest and report the truth.

Social Security officials do not know what fraction of the suspense file corresponds to the earnings of illegal immigrants.

When you said The problem with social security is not with illegal immigrants…I disagreed. They are a part of the issue and certainly not the solution.

It is impossible to know exactly how many illegal immigrant workers pay taxes. But according to specialists, most of them do. Specialists? That’s rich.

W/O coming across like Slick Willy explaining the definition of is, when you have what are in essence unfair trade and practices from work being done with ILLEGAL immigrants is it too much of a stretch to understand how this affects all companies required to pay into the SS. Part of the problem with SS are the ILLEGAL immigrants. The notion that Illegal immigrants help even more because they will never collect benefits.is IMO a short sighted one due to the long term effects.

The company asked dozens of workers to prove that they had cleared up or were in the process of clearing up the “discrepancy between the information on our payroll related to your employment and the S.S.A.’s records.” Most could not. How is this helpful?
