Breck Girl Spouts Off-Cut n’ Run

I'd like it noted that John Edwards is originally from South Carolina, and that not only did the people of North Carolina not want him to remain as Senator, nor did the NC Democratic Party (from the Boston Globe)

Former vice presidential candidate John Edwards, who is considering another run for the Democratic nomination for president, said Saturday the United States should start pulling troops out of Iraq immediately.

The former U.S. Sen. from North Carolina told reporters America should "make it clear (to Iraqis) we are leaving, and the best way is to start leaving. We should take 40,000 combat troops out now."

Edwards, who has said he regretted his vote as a U.S. senator authorizing President Bush to declare war in Iraq, said he would ask the country's military leaders for a strategy "to have the (rest of the) troops out in roughly 12 to 18 months."

"There is no chance other countries in the world will help Iraq as long as we are an occupying force," he said.

I wonder where he got the 40,000 number from? Did he take a poll and stick a finger in the wind? How about 12-18 months? Combined, they look like an attempt to call for cut n' run, with a hedge towards reasonability. Typical of Democrats.

And, the occupying force jibe is a slap in the face to every person who serves in the military, and particularly Iraq. There is a vast difference in the way that the Left and Right view the military, and Breck Girls words highlight them.

Republicans see the military as a liberating force. Positive connotation. Bringing freedom to oppressed people around the world.

Democrats see the military as an occupying force. Negative connotation. Using the military to oppress people around the world.

An occupying force doesn't allow the formation of a government. It doesn't help to reconstitute the countries military and police forces. It would have blown cities like Baghdad, Tikrit, Najaf, and Fallujah back to the stone age.

Rather telling of the way the Democrats think.

Back to Breck Girl, we are told that he didn't have the experience to be 2nd in command back in 2004

State Sen. Lou D'Allesandro, who supported Edwards for the nomination in 2004, said Edwards is trying to improve his foreign policy credentials.

"He's got to work on that," he said. "I want him to talk about foreign affairs. I would tell him to talk more about it."

Ah. So if Kerry had won in 2004, then become unable to preform the job of President, John Edwards would not have been able to do the job in foreign affairs. Consider that Edwards' major theme for his potential 2008 presidential bid is "fighting a national and global war on poverty, disease and hunger." While a worthy goal, it will not help the US when we are fighting a national war against terror, due to Edwards forgetting to fight the global war on terror. Disease and hunger won't matter much when people are dying by the droves due to terrorist acts.

You know, I do not remember Edwards saying word one about the terrorist who drove his SUV across the UNC campus in an attempt to kill Americans, despite the fact that Edwards is working at UNC. And wants to be Commander and Chief.

  1. Ogre says:

He didn’t talk about the UNC terrorist because the terrorist wasn’t poor. Edward’s war is against economics and capitalism, not against terror.

I wish he would just stay Senator Gone.

Isn’t Edwards just such a cutie? Yes he is! Yes he is!
