Suddenly, restricting people to “free speech zones”, ie, areas where they are allowed to protest, and if they get out of them they get arrested, are fashionable again
Los Angeles officials on Monday expressed anger at anti-vaccine protesters who temporarily blocked the vaccine distribution center at Dodger Stadium on Saturday and said they hoped to avoid future disruptions.
“I was very upset and disheartened,†L.A. County Supervisor Hilda Solis said of the disruption to the vaccination efforts.
Solis said authorities will set up space for protesters in the future who can share their viewpoints but “won’t disrupt†the traffic flow.
â€I understand people have 1st Amendment rights. … But when you become disruptive and actually create more problems through congestion, traffic jams or hostility in a manner that is not conducive, then I would want to have our public safety officials involved and to be there to protect all that are involved,†Solis said.
Now, first off, I think these people are loonies and annoying, and it creates a huge pain in the ass for Other People when they created problems with people getting the vaccine in LA. I think most of us, left, right, and (so-called) center can agree on that, right? And it does go to the question “should people be able to causes problems like that when engaged in their 1st Amendment Rights?” It does say “protest peaceably. Is blocking all those people and forcing the vaccine distribution center to shut down protesting peaceably? That’s a bigger debate, is it not?
But, what is not debatable is that Los Angeles tolerated the hell out of Black Lives Matter and Antifa blocking the streets and causing problems multiple times, did it not? Here’s BLM in May, blocking the 101 in LA, causing people problems, assaulting people, and destroying police cars. Here’s BLM walking onto the 110 in LA during rush hour in June, blocking traffic. The cops didn’t force them off the streets and into free speech zones in either cases. The notion never came up. And those were just two of the incidents in the LA area. Nor did free speech zones come up anywhere else in the country where BLM was running, literally, riot.
Why is it that the loony anti-vaxxers are being treated differently, especially when there was not assault, no arson, no looting, not destroying police cars?

SEEKING A bipartisan deal on a big covid-19 aid bill, President Biden met Monday with a group of 10 Republican senators led by Maine Sen. Susan Collins. Many in his party are skeptical. The 10 Republicans had offered a counterproposal to Mr. Biden’s $1.9 trillion plan that is less than a third the size, leading progressive commentators to accuse them of bad faith. Coronavirus aid is too important for the president to get caught in a holding pattern the way President Barack Obama did as he tried to negotiate a bipartisan health-care reform bill in his first term.
