FBI Arrests 5 With Links To Occupy Movement For Bomb Plot

“Mostly peaceful”

(WKYC) The FBI says five people have been arrested in a plot to blow up the Route 82 bridge over the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

According to a written release, Douglas L. Wright, 26,  Brandon L. Baxter, 20, and Anthony Hayne, 35, were arrested by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force on April 30 on charges of conspiracy and attempted use of explosive materials to damage physical property affecting interstate commerce.

Similar charges against two other men, Connor C. Stevens, 20, and Joshua S. Stafford, 23,  were being filed this morning.

The FBI says the five are all self-proclaimed anarchists.

There was never any danger, the FBI was watching them from the get-go. Bill Warner points to the connections these people have to Occupy Cleveland and Sarasota, as does The Blaze. Besides, these anarchists (strangely) tend to support Left side politicians pushing big government. Go figure.

Banks Received “White Powder” Envelopes In Time For Occupy’s May Day Insanity

Occupy Wall Street is claiming this incident has nothing to do with the Stink Everything Up movement. Nobody is buying that

(CBS News) Police say the white powder contained in several envelopes that were mailed to various bank branches in New York City turned out to be non-toxic.

Police say seven envelopes were sent Monday to several Wells Fargo branches, a JP Morgan Chase branch and an office building. Telephone calls to Wells Fargo and JP Morgan Chase were not immediately returned.

Police say the suspicious envelopes caused evacuations of several bank branches, but no injuries were reported. Police had no suspects.

Representatives at some of the banks involved told CBS News the envelopes contained a note stating “Happy May Day.” The envelopes were sent on the eve of planned May Day protests around the country.

No smart thinking person could possibly not see the connection, and figure that at least one Occupier sent the envelopes. Jim Hoft has a nice little flashback into what we actually saw at the Occupy camps nationwide…you know, all the murders, rapes, vandalism, arrests, child molestation, etc, and let’s not forget the massive destruction of public and private property. And all the feces and jars of urine.

(Bloomberg) “We call upon people to refrain from shopping, walk out of class, take the day off of work and other creative forms of resistance disrupting the status quo,” organizers said in an April 26 e-mail.

So, their plan is to harm the individuals who work by not shopping, blow off their education, not work …. well, what’s the difference?…and become violent. Oh, look, Gateway Pundit points to violence already occurring in San Francisco.

A different CBS News article points out some of the disruptive tactics expected, including

In New York, protesters plan to shut down one or more of the bridges or tunnels into and out of Manhattan as one of many planned activities — and they have yet to announce which they will target, possibly to keep the police from being ready to stop them. (Plans are expected to be announced in Manhattan’s Bryant Park early Monday morning – and it’s worth noting that some Occupiers disagree with the plan for a blockade.)

In Chicago, Occupiers plan to march from Union Park to Federal Plaza; in Seattle, they will rally at a downtown park, and officials are warning of traffic disruptions and possible violence. In Los Angeles, where the focus is on immigrants’ rights, Occupiers plan to have four “Caravans” of protesters “taking over our streets on routes designed to bring to light to societies [sic] ills” that converge in the city’s financial district.

Who gets hurt? The average person.

Team Obama Finally Has Their 2012 Slogan: Forward

Sometime in the past year or so, I did a photoshop (first one)

Who knew I would only have to change it a tiny bit to the second one? (via Hot Air)

(LA Times) It looks like the Obama campaign may have settled on its slogan for the 2012 election: “Forward.”

Four years ago Barack Obama ran on another one-word slogan, “Change.” Now, as President Obama prepares to hold the first public campaign rallies for his reelection, his team is giving a sense of what his pitch to votes will look like.

As Ed Morrissey points out (the video is available at both above links)

Of course, that’s not the direction this video takes.  It takes over three minutes looking backward, including the first minute of what took place before Obama took office.  After a brief shot at Republicans who “tried to tear this President down” — by, er, opposing his policies, which didn’t seem to bother Democrats while George W. Bush was in office — we get a couple of minutes of ball-spiking over the deaths of Osama bin Laden and Anwar al-Awlaki.  When does the video get to the “Forward” part?  Er … when there are 50 seconds left in the video, and even then, it doesn’t offer any specific policy goals — just platitudes:

It’s kinda creepy

And the video is very presidential, in that he again attacks private citizens for daring to disagree with his policies

But there’s then a pivot that signals how the president will use what Democrats see as Republican obstructionism as a foil. Images of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity flash by, and then one of Mitt Romney.

Oh, and then there’s this

(Washington Times) The Obama campaign apparently didn’t look backwards into history when selecting its new campaign slogan, “Forward” — a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism.

Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name “Forward!” or its foreign cognates. Wikipedia has an entire section called “Forward (generic name of socialist publications).”

“The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other left-wing newspapers and publications,” the online encyclopedia explains.

I’m not so sure: I think Obama may have lifted the word from George Armstrong Custer, who I believe yelled it out right before the battle of the Little Bighorn.

Oops: Wind Farms May Have A Warming Affect

A wind “power” doubleshot today. On the bright side, there aren’t that many wind farms

(Reuters) Large wind farms might have a warming effect on the local climate, research in the United States showed on Sunday, casting a shadow over the long-term sustainability of wind power.

Researchers at the State University of New York at Albany analysed the satellite data of areas around large wind farms in Texas, where four of the world’s largest farms are located, over the period 2003 to 2011.

The results, published in the journal Nature Climate Change, showed a warming trend of up to 0.72 degrees Celsius per decade in areas over the farms, compared with nearby regions without the farms.

This is happening particularly at night, where the warmer air is drawn down when it should be cooling, much like happens when you put your ceiling fan on reverse.

UK Telegraph: Wind Power Doesn’t Work

It should be noted, this is the view of the paper, not simply one pundits point of view, and the UK Telegraph, while employing a few Climate Realists, such as James Delingpole, and a willingness to provide alternate views, isn’t exactly right wing

(UK Telegraph) Wind generation accounts for a tiny proportion of our electricity supply and its impact on conventional power production is negligible. Perversely, if more turbines are built, more power stations will be needed as a back-up for when the wind is not blowing. Yesterday some turbines were shut down because the wind was too strong. On top of that, they also ruin the landscape. There are enough doubts about the efficacy of wind power to justify the increasing scepticism among Conservatives about its future as the cornerstone of the Government’s energy policy.

The question here is regarding PM David Cameron’s push for more alternatives, which is a worthy goal. Of course, wind power is not going to really replace fossil fuels, and ethanol is not only worthless, but, according to warmist doctrine, just as bad, if not worse, for the environment and globull warming. The Telegraph notes the “generous taxpayer subsidies” and that windpower is a miserable failure, to paraphrase. Perhaps one day, but, not today.

To my mind, if we have to dump godawful amounts of taxpayer money into alternatives, it should be towards credible research designed to produce feasible and usable solar and wind energy generation.

Fearmongering Today: If Court Strikes Down Mandate, States Might Have To Pass Their Own

It’s time for another breathless look in the crystal ball to find out “OMG, if the mandate is struck down, Bad Things might possibly happen!!!!!!!” Remember when the news used to be about things that have happened, rather than seeing reporters do their best Madame Zelda impression?

(Politico) If the Supreme Court strikes down the health reform law’s individual mandate, the states at the forefront of implementing the law could find themselves like Wile E. Coyote in the Road Runner cartoons: racing ahead only to discover there’s no ground underneath their feet.

These states were all counting on the individual mandate to make health insurance exchanges viable — because without a requirement for most people to buy coverage, there’s a chance that healthy people could avoid paying into the system, making premiums skyrocket.

How utterly awful! Healthy people would be allowed to make their own free choice as to whether or not to purchase health insurance in a country founded on freedom, including freedom to make your own choices and a freedom from government tyranny. One has to wonder how many states were counting on the mandate, since 26 are suing the Central Government over this, and took it to the Supreme Court, while most of the rest haven’t bothered implementing any Exchanges as of yet.

So a ruling against the requirement could force states to either consider enacting their own individual mandates — hoping people will be more accepting of them more than of a federal mandate — or pass other measures to draw healthy people into the system so their insurance markets don’t go off a cliff.

Everybody Panic!!!!!1!!! Or not, since we have no idea what will happen. But, if they do enact mandates, that is well within the boundaries of the Constitution. It would suck, but, it would be in keeping with our federalist system.

And, ironically, lawmakers in the states opposing the federal mandate might face intense pressure from local insurance companies to pass state mandates if the Supreme Court doesn’t also strike down the rules preventing them from charging more or denying coverage to sicker people. Insurers could frame a choice for these lawmakers: Either embrace the individual mandate or watch us close shop in your state because we can’t make a profit.

Interestingly, throughout the numerous number of future prognostications, the Politico forgets that there are, in fact, other options. Removing the large number of coverage mandates for what health care options insurance carriers must offer with every plan is one. Does a young single male really need coverage for gynecological issues, breast pumps, and mammograms? Do young women need coverage for prostate exams, male infertility, and testicular issues? Getting young people into the system would vastly increase number of healthy people to offset those who are more apt to get sick (or are sick), so, reducing the upfront cost would be a great boon.

States could band together to create larger insurance pools, if the Central Government would get out of the way. Increase the usage of health savings accounts. Allow portability for insurance from state to state. Allow cross state insurance purchasing. Na, Liberals like those at the Politico prefer the tyranny of a federal mandate over the possibility of a state enacting a mandate.

Poor Indian Women Undergo Forced Sterilization To Combat Climate Change (Hoax)

It’s long been a dirty secret among the Warmist crowd that there needs to be serious population reduction among mankind. Like with every other Warmist “solution” to anthropogenic global warming, they want Someone Else to bear the burden for Warmist notions, which is how we hear about the “pressing need” for “family planning” programs in developing nations

(UK Guardian) Tens of millions of pounds of UK aid money have been spent on a programme that has forcibly sterilised Indian women and men, the Observer has learned. Many have died as a result of botched operations, while others have been left bleeding and in agony. A number of pregnant women selected for sterilisation suffered miscarriages and lost their babies.

The UK agreed to give India £166m to fund the programme, despite allegations that the money would be used to sterilise the poor in an attempt to curb the country’s burgeoning population of 1.2 billion people.

The program of forced sterilizations has been going on for quite some time, and there are reports from the Indian government in 2006 and 2009 about “quality control issues”. The UK has been providing funding which ended up being used for these “family planning” procedures, and, you won’t be shocked as to the reason. Appalled, yes. Shocked, no, because this is what these far left Warmists want

Yet a working paper published by the UK’s Department for International Development in 2010 cited the need to fight climate change as one of the key reasons for pressing ahead with such programmes. The document argued that reducing population numbers would cut greenhouse gases, although it warned that there were “complex human rights and ethical issues” involved in forced population control.

One has to wonder how many other developing nations are doing the same with money from 1st world nations. The British department that provides the funding stated that they condemn using the money for the program and say they have taken steps so the money is no longer used for these programs. Well, now that the cat is out of the bag, of course.

Despite the controversy, an Indian government report shows that sterilisation remains the most common method of family planning used in its Reproductive and Child Health Programme Phase II, launched in 2005 with £166m of UK funding. According to the DfID, the UK is committed to the project until next year and has spent £34m in 2011-12. Most of the money – £162m – has been paid out, but no special conditions have been placed on the funding.

Next time you hear some Liberal start yammering on about family planning or “climate change”, ask them if they support forced sterilization for poor people in other countries. Expect hemming and hawing as they attempt to avoid the the question.
