Team Obama Finally Has Their 2012 Slogan: Forward

Sometime in the past year or so, I did a photoshop (first one)

Who knew I would only have to change it a tiny bit to the second one? (via Hot Air)

(LA Times) It looks like the Obama campaign may have settled on its slogan for the 2012 election: “Forward.”

Four years ago Barack Obama ran on another one-word slogan, “Change.” Now, as President Obama prepares to hold the first public campaign rallies for his reelection, his team is giving a sense of what his pitch to votes will look like.

As Ed Morrissey points out (the video is available at both above links)

Of course, that’s not the direction this video takes.  It takes over three minutes looking backward, including the first minute of what took place before Obama took office.  After a brief shot at Republicans who “tried to tear this President down” — by, er, opposing his policies, which didn’t seem to bother Democrats while George W. Bush was in office — we get a couple of minutes of ball-spiking over the deaths of Osama bin Laden and Anwar al-Awlaki.  When does the video get to the “Forward” part?  Er … when there are 50 seconds left in the video, and even then, it doesn’t offer any specific policy goals — just platitudes:

It’s kinda creepy

And the video is very presidential, in that he again attacks private citizens for daring to disagree with his policies

But there’s then a pivot that signals how the president will use what Democrats see as Republican obstructionism as a foil. Images of Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity flash by, and then one of Mitt Romney.

Oh, and then there’s this

(Washington Times) The Obama campaign apparently didn’t look backwards into history when selecting its new campaign slogan, “Forward” — a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism.

Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name “Forward!” or its foreign cognates. Wikipedia has an entire section called “Forward (generic name of socialist publications).”

“The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other left-wing newspapers and publications,” the online encyclopedia explains.

I’m not so sure: I think Obama may have lifted the word from George Armstrong Custer, who I believe yelled it out right before the battle of the Little Bighorn.

Yeah, once again, newspapers giving them the normative benefit of the doubt. I think they know the exact reason why they chose that slogan and for that very reason!!
