How cute. Good thing it’s not made in Thailand, meaning it has to be shipped a long way so that Warmists can be depressed while having a cocktail party and discuss how they are going to force other people to practice their pseudo-religious beliefs. And, fortunately, it’s not made from plastic, which is bad for Gaia.

Hill Poll: Most Find Obama To Blame For Crummy Economy

The Blame Bush rhetoric has gotten old and stale

(The Hill) Two-thirds of likely voters say the weak economy is Washington’s fault, and more blame President Obama than anybody else, according to a new poll for The Hill.

It found that 66 percent believe paltry job growth and slow economic recovery is the result of bad policy. Thirty-four percent say Obama is the most to blame, followed by 23 percent who say Congress is the culprit. Twenty percent point the finger at Wall Street, and 18 percent cite former President George W. Bush. (snip)

The poll, conducted for The Hill by Pulse Opinion Research, found 53 percent of voters say Obama has taken the wrong actions and has slowed the economy down. Forty-two percent said he has taken the right actions to revive the economy, while six percent said they were not sure.

I’d like to speak to those people who think Obama has taken the right actions and ask them exactly how the economy has gotten better. 41 months of 8%+ unemployment, record numbers of people opting out of the jobs market in despair, consumer confidence down, home prices down, savings down, wages down, etc and so on. All despite the recession officially ending in June 2009, before Obama’s policies kicked in.

Oops: CFL’s Shown To Damage Skin Cells

Great. Now we not only have to worry about mercury poisoning and crappy light, but skin cell damage

(Examiner) Environmentalists have pushed to abolish traditional incandescent light bulbs, in order to reduce the amount of electricity needed to light up our homes.

However, a small but vocal minority has insisted that the curlicue-shaped compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) pose a threat to human health.

Now, a group of scientists at Stony Brook University has proven that CFLs do emit ultraviolet (UV) light rays that can harm human skin cells.

The study reports

….Results revealed significant levels of UVC and UVA, which appeared to originate from cracks in the phosphor coatings, present in all CFL bulbs studied.

“Our study revealed that the response of healthy skin cells to UV emitted from CFL bulbs is consistent with damage from ultraviolet radiation,” said Professor Rafailovich. “Skin cell damage was further enhanced when low dosages of TiO2 nanoparticles were introduced to the skin cells prior to exposure.” Rafailovich added that incandescent light of the same intensity had no effect on healthy skin cells, with or without the presence of TiO2.

“Despite their large energy savings, consumers should be careful when using compact fluorescent light bulbs,” said Professor Rafailovich. “Our research shows that it is best to avoid using them at close distances and that they are safest when placed behind an additional glass cover.”

So now, in order to use them, you have to stay far away from them and spend extra money to put them behind additional glass cover. Standard use incandescents give off very little UV on any wavelength.

Gun Control Laws Not Likely

Why? Well, most Americans are against gun control laws (via Jazz Shaw)

(Ocala) By 2004, when the assault weapon ban lapsed, congressional Democrats made no serious attempt to pass an extension. President George W. Bush was content to let it fade into history.

Remember, rented Democrat presidential candidate John Kerry, himself an owner of a Chinese variant of an AK-47, which was banned under the assault weapons ban, had some talking points and complaints about the ending of the ban, but never bothered to attempt to submit legislation to reauthorize the ban, despite being a sitting Senator and presidential candidate. And, remember his little foray out for a hunting trip during the campaign with a shotgun, all dressed up in hunting gear.

Public sentiment had swung.

According to a Gallup poll in 1990, 78 percent of those surveyed said laws covering the sale of firearms should be stricter, while 19 percent said they should remain the same or be loosened.

By the fall of 2004 support for tougher laws had dropped to 54 percent. In last year’s sounding, 43 percent said they should be stricter, and 55 percent said they should stay the same or be made more lenient.

Of course, many of those who say gun laws should be stricter (or banned altogether) believe that this should be done to Other People, not themselves. How many liberals in the entertainment and sports industries have guns themselves, or travel with armed guards? How many Democrat voters own guns themselves? How many elected Democrats depend on arming themselves or having armed guards? They want the ability to protect themselves, but aren’t willing to accord the same protections to others. Again, Democrats aren’t necessarily against guns: they’re against YOU having a gun.

Of course, now that many of the unhinged “guns are evil!!!!!!” opinion pieces were trotted out quickly after the Aurora tragedy (most likely too quickly), the focus looks to be shifting to the Evil NRA and their influence. The above cited article mentions them. Here’s a big smear piece by The Politico. Same with CNN. And all over. But, what they all tell us is that gun control legislation finds little support.

We see the massive opposition to the UN arms control treaty. Barack Obama is not planning on pushing any gun control laws. Of course, there are still some crazy supporters out there, like Sanjay Sanghoee at the Huffington Post who says that gun control is patriotic.

The Second Amendment of our Constitution was meant to protect us from harm, but had the Founding Fathers known back then that the proliferation of guns would put us in harm’s way today, I bet you anything they would have put safeguards in place to prevent abuse. The right to defend oneself makes sense but that should not encompass the right to own weapons of mass destruction, or to endanger the welfare of society. The belief that we need to stockpile guns of every kind to protect us from our own government is a sign of deep paranoia and madness. And to the people who think that way, let me ask you this: do you really believe that if the U.S. government decided for some reason to direct all its military might against you , you would stand a chance against them?

First, the only harm it was meant to protect us against was against government, either a foreign one or our own. If the Founding Fathers had foreseen the huge growth in federal government power, they would surely have put even more restrictions on the federal government, perhaps even saying hang it all, let’s just stick with the Articles of Confederation. Most people do not stockpile guns. Most are like me, with just one handgun, or just a couple shotguns or rifles for hunting.

Do you know what endangers the welfare of society? Weak tea liberal laws on crime, which treats criminals with kid gloves rather than imposing severe punishment.

But, hey, since the military is so strong, we should just give up our guns. Do you know who else was really powerful? England, which had a huge and very strong military at the time of the War for Independence. Sanjay is advocating for guns to only be in the hands of The Government, otherwise you’re unpatriotic. The American People say otherwise. But, you liberals go ahead and push for taking guns out of private hands, and see how far that gets you during the elections.

Obama Looks To Cut Global AIDS Funding

Let’s imagine that President Bush was looking to cut funding for global AIDS programs: this would be all over the news. Yet, since it is (NMP) Obama doing this, it has mostly been ignored. Go ahead, try searching, see if the story is in other media outlets, other than this one from WRAL, sourced from Bloomberg, which I just happened to noticed when looking at the local news on my ‘Droid Sunday afternoon

(WRAL) Facing a growing deficit and political demands to cut spending, the Obama administration is planning to scale back U.S. support of global AIDS programs and pushing to unload some of the burden on other countries.

This week there is a big AIDS conference in Washington, D.C., the first time in 22 years. Of course, Obama is mailing it in by offering a video address, rather than attending.

Former President George W. Bush, a Republican, more than tripled U.S. funding for global treatment during the last five years of his administration through the President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief, or PEPFAR. With that increase, U.S. funding covered about 59 percent of all donations for global AIDS relief, according to Jennifer Kates, director of global health and HIV policy for the nonprofit Kaiser Family Foundation, of Menlo Park, California.

In 2010, the year after Obama took office, the PEPFAR budget was $6.9 billion, including money to combat tuberculosis, the leading killer of AIDS patients. Next year, the funding will fall to $6.4 billion, if Obama’s proposed budget is enacted. The administration believes other countries need to step up and help carry the financial load in the future, according to Eric Goosby, Obama’s Global AIDS Coordinator.

Good news for global AIDS funding, Obama’s budget won’t be enacted, since even the Democrat controlled Senate refuses to hold a vote on it.

What the Obama administration wants to do is get other countries to “pay their fair share”. Sound familiar? I guess Obama sees no votes in keeping the funding going. Interestingly, President Bush had an opinion piece in the Washington Post the other day on the global AIDS fight

Some 25,000 delegates are gathering in Washington this week for the 2012 International AIDS Conference. This is a moment of exceptional promise. Gains in AIDS treatment are remarkable — and continuing.

One of the saddest tragedies in the world is for people to die of HIV/AIDS when lifesaving medicines are available. Just a decade ago, that tragedy was playing out across Africa. Thanks to the generosity of the American people, this is no longer the case today. Through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis — working with committed governments, faith-based and community organizations, and the private sector — treatment and prevention have advanced at an almost unimaginable pace. This month, the Joint United Nations Program on AIDS (UNAIDS) announced that 6.2 million people are on lifesaving antiretroviral AIDS drugs in sub-Saharan Africa — up from just 100,000 in 2003. This is more than a vast statistic. It is a series of real people’s names — those of nurses, doctors, civil servants, farmers, students, entrepreneurs and parents who did not leave orphans behind. It is proof of what many in Africa call the Lazarus effect: Communities once given up for dead have been brought back to life, and millions of men, women and children are alive to build their futures.

You know what Bush doesn’t do? Give himself a constant big pat on the back. He gives credit to the American people. And to “UNAIDS, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and private-sector partners. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been a consistent champion of this effort.”

During the past decade, millions of lives have been saved and changed. This has been a global effort. It would be a sad and terrible thing if the world chose this moment to lose its focus and will. Other countries and local governments in Africa can do more in providing resources and increasing funding — as the new government of Zambia is doing. But to continue the momentum in the fight against AIDS, America must continue to lead. Having seen the need and accepted the challenge, we can’t turn our backs now.

Yes, it would be great if other countries pitched in. But, the US needs to lead from the front, not from behind. Leading from behind is following.

Latest Warmist Talking Point: Mankind Making Weather Worse Than It Should Be

Warmists are always trotting new talking points up the flag pole in an attempt to defend their cult (yet they never practice what they preach). Global warming. Climate change. Extreme Climate Change. Catastrophic climate change. Biodiversity. Sustainability. Hurricanes will get worse. Hurricanes might be fewer, but they’ll be more powerful. AGW is limiting hurricane development. School kids won’t know what snow looks like. AGW is causing snow and cold. Driving an SUV makes it hotcoldwetdry. Anything to defend their cult, no matter how absurd.

Actual science keeps shooting down what is really a political, and fascistic, movement by the Warmists. Real world science has shown time and time again that the current warm period is nothing abnormal. In fact, previous warm periods during the Holocene were much warmer. So, hey, let’s try a new “theory”, shall we?

Top Ten Things Climate Change Is Making Worse Right Now

The onslaught of extreme weather and record temperatures this year have had an impact on people globally, directly through drought and temperature, and more indirectly impacting food prices and public transportation.

See? Climate change, an unscientific phrase in itself, is making the current natural warm period worse than it should be. Essentially, this poop against the wall is attempting to create a position that “sure, Mother Nature has created this warm period, but all those Other People who live modern lifestyles have made it much, much worse, because weather never happened before.”

Blackouts – Extreme temperatures stress the power grid, and Con Edison recently took action to lower power voltage, known as a “brown out” in NYC, to prevent mass black outs. Of course, millions suffered from blackouts during brutal heat after a rare, heat-fueled derecho impacted the Washington area.

Know what else causes brownouts and blackouts? Shutting down energy producing plants, particularly coal fired plants, in order to worship at the feet Al Gore.

NY Daily News Blames Romney, Obama, And NRA

If you thought some of the other typical calls for gun control post-tragedy were irresponsible, this one takes the cake from the NY Daily News’ Editorial Board

Blood on hands of Obama, Mitt and NRA!

The police chief in Aurora, Colo., said he is confident that massacre gunman James Holmes acted alone. The police chief was dead wrong.

Standing at Holmes’ side as he unleashed an AR-15 assault rifle and a shotgun and a handgun was Wayne LaPierre, political enforcer of the National Rifle Association.

Standing at Holmes’ side as he sprayed bullets and buckshot into a crowded movie theater were Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, a President and a would-be President, who have bowed to the NRA’s dictates and who responded to the slaughter Friday with revolting, useless treacle.

Could Obama have attempted to do something pre-massacre? Sure, he could have attempted to pass legislation that restricting the sales of certain weapons and ammo clips when he had Democrats in control of the Senate and House, which would have meant that he could have purchased different guns legally. Or purchased them illegally, like many other criminals have done. It’s not Obama’s fault. It’s not Mitt’s fault. And it’s not the NRA’s fault that Holmes is a raving wackjob killer. Senator John Kerry (D-Mass) owns one of those scary weapons, a Chinese variant of an AK-47, yet, has never gone on a rampage. Lots of people do. They also own shotguns and other rifles not covered by the previous assualt weapons ban, and do not use them for massacres.

In a vain claim of innocence, the fanatics will say Holmes is a monster and a maniac, that he fired and fired and fired as a man possessed. Each protestation clamps their fingers with his around the trigger.

The same NY Daily News is reporting that

Movie massacre suspect James Holmes remained unapologetic and irrational Saturday in a Colorado jail where his life was at risk from inmates bent on revenge.

Holmes, held under suicide watch in solitary confinement, remained in his murderous “Joker” persona after arriving at the Arapahoe Detention Center, a jailhouse worker told the Daily News.

“Let’s just say he hasn’t shown any remorse,” the employee said. “He thinks he’s acting in a movie.”

He’s spitting on guards just like the Joker in The Dark Knight. He’s obviously bat guano insane. But, according to the same NY Daily News, it’s not his fault.

Because they made sure that virtually everyone, Holmes included, has unfettered legal access to heavy weaponry. And they made sure he was permitted by law to drive to the kill scene with a fully loaded arsenal.

Except, he doesn’t have unfettered access. And where there’s a will there’s a way. If a criminal wants a gun, they’ll get it. Handguns are mostly illegal in Britain, yet criminals still get them. And, no guns? How about building a few bombs? Or one big bomb. The recipes are extremely easy to find on the Internet. Shockingly easy. He could have decided to drive a car into people, as has been done before.

Guns are heavily restricted in Chicago, yet they have been used for a large number of crimes and murders this year. But, liberals never want to let a good tragedy go to waste even before the dead are buried.

Doug Ross highlights the use of guns in places that have heavy restrictions like Chicago, NYC, and even Sweden (which has an almost total ban on guns). He further points out that people can manufacture guns themselves.

Can you ban evil? Of course not.

But in the liberal’s Utopian worldview, evil can somehow be stopped. If only society’s elite — the master-planners — can be given enough control over human activity, they could construct a perfect government and prevent all violence. Notice, however, that society’s elite are always protected by arms.

Let’s not forget, Holmes had his apartment booby trapped with a large number of bombs. No guns? Well, make more bombs. Crazy is still crazy.

The fact is, 99.999999999% of gun owners are responsible citizens not bent on using them illegally. Quite a few of them are liberals. As Joan of Argghh tweeted back to me “They don’t hate guns; they hate YOU having a gun.”
