Still not quite as much property damage or as many rapes as Occupy, but the body count is closing in
(WSJ) PESHAWAR, Pakistan—Three people were killed and dozens injured Friday when protests by tens of thousands of Pakistanis infuriated by an anti-Islam film descended into deadly violence.
Police fired tear gas and live ammunition in an attempt to subdue rioters who hurled rocks and set fire to buildings in some cities on a holiday declared by Pakistan’s government so people could rally against the video, which has sparked protests across the Muslim world.
Thousands of Muslims protested in at least half a dozen other countries, some burning American flags and effigies of President Barack Obama.
That’s how this “small number of extremist Muslims” celebrates a “day of love for the Prophet Mohammed.”
There were 15,000 demonstrating in Karachi, if by “demonstrating” one means “opening fire with bullets of love” on the police. And plenty more “protests” in Pakistan. And
As well as in Pakistan there were protests Friday in Indian-controlled Kashmir, Iraq, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Indonesia.
The love’s spreading like STDs and lice at an Occupy encampment.

You’re shocked, I know! This comes via ye olde email, so I cannot access the PDF with ye olde Droid in a viewable manner
Cato has released a new study by scholars Duanjie Chen and Jack Mintz on corporate effective tax rates in 2012 for 90 countries.
http://www.cato.org/pubs/tbb/tbb_65.pdf
The study provides estimates of marginal effective tax rates, which are an important factor in driving real investment flows.
The U.S. rate of 35.6% is about double the 18.2% average rate of the 90 countries studied. The U.S. rate is also the highest in the OECD.
Is it any wonder our economy is stagnating? Add to this the huge regulatory burdens from the Central Planning Office, er, federal government. BTW, I’m not solely blaming Obama. Bush 43 bares some responsibility for regulatory burdens. Witness
The annual Economic Freedom of the World report, including an index of country rankings, has just been released, and it should be a wake-up call. The United States was known as the bastion of economic freedom for more than two centuries, and it was because of its economic freedom that the nation became the pre-eminent economic power. However, in just a few short years, the U.S. has fallen from No. 3 in 2000 (behind the city-states of Hong Kong and Singapore) to No. 8 in 2005 and to No. 18 in 2010, the last year for which complete statistics are available. Worse yet, the U.S. decline continues, and in next year’s ranking, it is almost certain to be lower.
How utterly sad is it that the US I’d #18? Canada, Chile, and Finland do better.
Now it’s personal! Well, not so much, I’ve only eaten one a few times, and, quite frankly, living down South affords much better pork sandwiches, but, hey, some people are really as crazed to eat them as the TV commercials show. Alas…
(Clarion Ledger) The McRib sandwich is traditional McDonald’s fare, appearing on the menu seasonally from late October through early November. But not this year. The McDonald’s McRib is delayed until late 2012, and there is only global warming to blame.
It’s true, according to a report in Ad Age. In a memo obtained from the publication from McDonald’s Operators National Advertising Fund, which represents McDonald’s national franchise council, the McRib was originally scheduled to be marketed Oct. 22 through Nov. 11 this year.
It’s been put off till the 4th quarter, closer to Christmas
The reason: last year’s mild late fall and winter — one of the warmest ever recorded in the U.S. — made for dull sales in the fourth quarter for McDonald’s. This year, the company wants an extra sales push to make sure the same flat quarter doesn’t occur again.
It’s so horrible, hotcoldwetdry is killing McDonald’s business…..hey, wait
McDonald’s reported a fourth-quarter profit of $1.38 billion, or $1.33 per share, up almost 11 percent from a year earlier and compared to analysts’ call for a profit of $1.30 a share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Revenue rose 10 percent to $6.82 billion.
Um, it sure looks like MickeyD’s did rather well during 4Q2011, instead of the supposed “flat sales.” Warmists just make crap up.
It would explain recent events, though

Surprise!
(Fox News) Intelligence sources tell Fox News they are convinced the deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was directly tied to Al Qaeda — with a former Guantanamo detainee involved.
That revelation comes on the same day a top Obama administration official called last week’s deadly assault a “terrorist attack” — the first time the attack has been described that way by the administration after claims it had been a “spontaneous” act.
“Yes, they were killed in the course of a terrorist attack on our embassy,” Matt Olsen, director of the National Counterterrorism Center, said during a Senate hearing Wednesday.
and
Sufyan Ben Qumu is thought to have been involved and even may have led the attack, Fox News’ intelligence sources said. Qumu, a Libyan, was released from the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in 2007 and transferred into Libyan custody on the condition he be kept in jail. He was released by the Qaddafi regime as part of its reconciliation effort with Islamists in 2008.
His Guantanamo files also show he has ties to the financiers behind the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The declassified files also point to ties with the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, a known Al Qaeda affiliate.
I wonder how long it will be before we learn that the concurrent protests in Egypt were anything but “spontaneous”, and part of the same plan?
