GOP Bill Would “Cripple Global Hotcoldwetdry Efforts”

(The Hill) An Environmental Protection Agency official said during a Tuesday hearing that a House Republican-sponsored bill would “cripple” the agency’s ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The House Energy and Commerce subcommittee on Energy and Power hearing discussed a bill (H.R. 4255) that would eliminate EPA’s ability to offer financial assistance for international greenhouse gas reduction activities.

It’s not a large sum of money, “just” $140 million since 2001 (that we officially know about), but why should we spend money around the world to deal with hotcoldwetdry? We shouldn’t be spending it here, either.

“The EPA believes that HR 4255 will cripple the agency’s ability through grants to address harmful air pollutants that affect both the global and domestic environment,” Hooks said in written testimony. “Air pollution from overseas sources represents a growing problem for public health globally and here in the United States.”

Yeah, we should do away with that dastardly Carbon Dioxide which is …. necessary for life on Earth.

Palin: “You Either Get Free Stuff Or Freedom”

Most know I’m no longer a big fan of Sarah Palin, but, she mostly makes sense during an interview with Bill O’Reilly

(CNS News) “We’re not explaining to the rest of America, who thinks that they’re going to get a bunch of free stuff from Obama, that you have a choice. You either get free stuff or you get freedom. You cannot have both, and you need to make a choice.

“And if we could explain and get that message through to people that there is no such thing as a free lunch — and that we are an insolvent nation when you consider us being $16 trillion in debt, we’re broke. We can’t keep continuing down this path.”

Of course, the problem with this is that a lot of people (read: Liberals) like free stuff, ie, other people being taxed heavily so that Liberals can get stuff they didn’t work for, and are willing to give up freedom to get the free stuff. These are called “moochers”, and that’s who the Democrat Party mostly represents.

If the party can’t light a fire under its base — “and get them convinced that Barack Obama’s lack of a plan to get us out of these economically woeful times — if you can’t get your message through that filter of the media, then we’re in a world of hurt.”

On this I have to disagree: it’s not the base which is the problem, it’s getting the message through to the Independents and squishy Republicans and Democrats who can switch their votes.

(Mediaite) Then speaking more specifically about campaign strategy, O’Reilly questioned whether Romney should go after President Barack Obama “in a more personal way.” Whether he should use “buzz words” like “incompetent,” “dangerous” and “socialist.” Palin argued those aren’t buzz words — they’re the truth. And yes, he should: “He needs to be severely aggressive in his articulation.”

Well, Mitt is sort of going after Obama in that manner, and the race card is pulled for ever attack, such as the “Obama Isn’t Working” one. Mitt has tried to portray himself as the adult in the room, interested more in Getting Things Done rather than play petty political games. But, his campaign is going to have to get a bit nastier, because you know that Team Obama will. Half of what Team O has offered has been direct personal attacks.

Four Americans Killed In Embassy Attack In Libya – Clinton Statement Added

Breaking news, it wasn’t just our ambassador to Libya who was killed yesterday (see previous post)

(Fox News) The U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other American staff members were killed Tuesday in an attack on the U.S. consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi, the White House confirmed. President Obama, in a written statement issued Wednesday morning, called the attack “outrageous” and “senseless.”

Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens was killed Tuesday night when he and a group of embassy employees went to the consulate to try to evacuate staff. The protesters, angry over a film that ridiculed Islam’s Prophet Muhammad, were firing gunshots and rocket-propelled grenades.

The State Department identified one of the other three Americans killed as Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith, a husband and father of two who had worked for the State Department for 10 years. The U.S. government is still notifying the next of kin for the other two individuals killed, and has not identified them.

Embassies around the world (read: in the Muslim world) have been put on notice to be on guard against further violence.

I’m confident all the Islamist apologistas will be out in full force (ones like The Atlantic’s Max Fisher), blaming America and attempting to paint Christians as exactly the same, yet, can anyone point towards Christians storming buildings, setting them on fire, and killing people? No one ever seems to be concerned about offending Christians and Jews, partly because …… Christians and Jews won’t go bat guano insane and riot, burn, and kill. And, about that video

A spokesman for the Muslim Brotherhood, the mainstream Islamist group and the sponsor of Egypt’s first elected president, Mohamed Morsi, urged the United States government on Tuesday to prosecute the “madmen” behind the video, according to the English-language Web site of the state newspaper, Al Ahram.

The spokesman asked for a formal apology from the United States government and warned that events like the video were damaging Washington’s relations with the Muslim world. He also emphasized that any protests should remain peaceful and respect property.

Sorry, bub, but we have a thing called freedom of speech here in the US, and do not prosecute people for offending Muslims and denigrating Mohammed…..actually, under the crazy “hate crimes” laws, that could actually happen.

(Mediaite) “This is an attack that should shock the conscience of people of all faiths around the world,” said Clinton. “We condemn in the strongest terms this senseless act of violence and we send our prayers to the families, friends and colleagues of those we’ve lost.”

Um, why should it shock Christians, Jews, etc? This was being done in the name of Mohammed.

“This is not easy,” said Clinton. “Today, many Americans are asking – indeed, I asked myself – how could this happen? How could this happen in a country we helped liberate in a city we helped save from destruction?”

Anyone else get the feeling she’s somewhat blaming the US? Anyhow, we kinda know the answer, and that it involves al Qaeda/hardcore Islamist front groups getting heavily involved with the Libyan rebels, much like in many other “Arab Spring” countries.

Oh, and the US embassy in Cairo was defaced with pro-Osama graffiti.

Naturally, the maker of the film that is the supposed flash point of this exercise in outrage is in hiding. Obama had no kind words of support for him.

Naturally, Outside The Beltway goes full on RDS (Romney Derangement Syndrome). I’m having a hard time differentiating OTB from Little Green Footballs, The Democrats Underground, Daily Kos, etc.

Mostly Non-Radical Egyptians Assault US Embassy

(CNN) Angry protesters climbed the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo on Tuesday and tore down the American flag, apparently in protest of a film thought to insult the Prophet Mohammed.

A volley of warning shots were fired as a large crowd gathered around the compound, said CNN producer Mohammed Fahmy, who was on the scene, though it is not clear who fired the shots.

The Jawa Report thinks they have a copy of the video, and you should probably download it before Youtube goes all squishy (as usual) and bans it. Anyhow, the “protesters” hung a flag

The black flag, which hangs atop a ladder inside the compound, is adorned with white characters that read, “There is no God but Allah and Mohammad is his messenger,” an emblem often used in al Qaeda propaganda.

But, wait, it gets better! This comes from the US Embassy in Cairo

I condemn in the strongest terms the attack on our mission in Benghazi today. As we work to secure our personnel and facilities, we have confirmed that one of our State Department officers was killed. We are heartbroken by this terrible loss. Which is rather strange, since Liberals and the State Dept. rarely have a problem when Christian and Jews religious beliefs are denigrated.

Using Obama’s Own Name Is Now Racist

No, really, this is what we get from Democrat crazies  (via Howard Portnoy)

(AP) “You recognize it when every time the Republicans with their own convention refer to him by his first name, Barack Obama. He’s President Barack Obama,” said Patt Sanders, a delegate from Englewood, Calif., who is black.

So, every time I call him “Obama”, “Mr. Obama”, or “Barry”, it means I’m blowing a dog whistle, speaking in coded language, and a raaaaacist. What if I refer to him as (NMP) Obama? Does that make me a double racist?

Anyway, Howard points out that Obama himself refered to George Bush as …. George Bush, rather than President Bush. And, to add to that, most of the media typically refers to the POTUS by their name, usually “Mr. Clinton,” “Mr. Bush”, “Mr. Obama”. Sometimes they will use the word President. Sometimes not. Guess that makes them all racists, too.

But, even if you don’t think you’re a racist, well, you are

Glisson knows that many conservatives disagree with Obama solely because of his policies. “But I am also quite certain that there are others who object to the president because of his race, because they have a fear of blacks that is embedded in our culture,” she said.

Her conclusion is based on something called “implicit bias”— prejudices that people don’t realize they have.

So, subconsciously, you’re a racist. Even if you couldn’t give a damn less what color Obama is (I usually see him as “red”) and have a big issue with his policies, well, you’re still a racist.

And when everything is racist, real racism becomes meaningless. Hell, even peanut butter sandwiches are now racist. Go figure.

Sierra Club: Hey, North Jersey, You Really Don’t Need Power

It’s interesting to note that every time there is a big storm that knocks out power, people immediately assault power companies for failing to spend oodles of money upgrading their infrastructure. Like just last year in New Jersey. This past July saw people and government freaking out on PepCo, a Maryland power company, along with a few others, blaming them for the power outages, for having done nothing to upgrade the system, even threatening fines. Remember how much people freaked out after the giant Northeast power outage in 2003 and how there where calls to upgrade the infrastructure? But, what happens when a power company tries to actually Do Something?

(NJ.com) The New Jersey Sierra Club says PSEG is “taking a risky bet” by moving ahead with construction work related to its massive power-line upgrade in northern New Jersey, as it’s still awaiting certain federal approvals for the project.

The Sierra Club has long objected to the Susquehanna-Roseland transmission line project, which would install a 500,000 volt transmission line from the Berwick area in Pennsylvania to PSE&G’s substation in Roseland, running through 16 New Jersey communities.

“PSEG is taking a risky bet because if they do not get federal or DEP (Department of Environmental Protection) approvals or our court challenge of the BPU (Board of Public Utilities) approval is successful, they will have wasted taxpayer money,” the Sierra Club wrote in a statement sent to media after initial construction work started.

Why? Well

Regional grid operator PJM Interconnection has argued the project is necessary to ensure reliable service. The Sierra Club and other environmental groups opposing the project have argued it will ruin views at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, cut through public lands and keep coal-fired plants open by enabling them to sell power to East Coast customers.

So, they have a problem with ruing the view? What do you think happens when the landscape is blotted with solar panels and wind turbines? And then there’s the coal fired plant issue: enviroweenies/Warmists are really unhappy that other people should be able to get reliable, cheap power. PSEG should disconnect the headquarters of the Sierra Club and it’s employees from the power grid and tell them to install solar panels and wind turbines, see how quick these people whine about not having usable power.

9/11 At 11: Patriot’s Day

It’s hard to believe it has been 11 years since that fateful day when Islamic terrorists killed 2,996 of our friends, loved ones, and countrymen, as well as visitors welcomed to our shores. And they picked on the wrong country, as we took the fight right back at them.

Today has been designated Patriot’s Day, a day of reflection, when we are to fly the flag at half staff, and observe a moment of silence at 8:46am eastern time, the moment when the first plane struck. The editorial staff at the Hickory Daily Record discusses Patriot’s Day

Today is Patriot Day. We observe it in remembrance of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Patriotism is not a right, nor is it a privilege. Patriotism comes from individuals. It is a love of independence and liberty. It is a love of country – a love so deep that the patriot stands ready to remedy the ills of the country and even change the government if necessary.

There is no nation without the people. In the United States, there is no government without the consent and direction of the people. Americans are not third-party participants in government. They are the beginning and the end of the national will. They are the expression of unity and the embodiment of liberty.

By definition – written in blood and engraved on our individual and collective heart – there can be no United States of America without the people and their patriotism.

The USA Today is wondering if 9/11 is becoming just another day, similar to Pearl Harbor Day

The Sept. 11 attacks still elicit sadness, anxiety and anger for many. But as we enter the 11th year after that tragic day, it begs the question:

How will the nation mark the occasion as the horrors of that day — as well as the victims and heroes — fade from our collective memories?

In decades to come, will 9/11 anniversaries remain a moment frozen in the nation’s consciousness? Or will they be more like time-softened remembrances of other iconic tragedies in U.S. history: Pearl Harbor (Dec. 7, 1941), President John F. Kennedy‘s assassination (Nov. 22, 1963) and the space shuttle Challenger explosion (Jan. 28, 1986)?

Nearly 70% of Americans say they somewhat or strongly agree with this statement: “I have moved on from (the events of) Sept. 11,” according to a new American Pulse Survey.

And how does the NY Times, the supposed paper of record, celebrate? By pulling out the Blame Bush card. Joshua Pundit tears the op-ed apart

I ordinarily wouldn’t even take notice of something like this appearing in Pravda-on-the-Hudson, especially given their record of endangering our troops and our country by leaking classified information. But these shameless,brazen lies demand a response.

This is an op-ed entitled ‘The Deafness Before the Storm’, and its premise is fairly simple – that the Bush White House was deaf to 9/11 warnings and thus allowed it to happen.

The writer is one Kurt Eichenwald, and he has top grade, cutting edge knowledge and experience with national security , since his credentials include being an ex-New York Times reporter and a contributing editor at Vanity Fair. Oh wait, maybe he doesn’t.

The problem with all the warnings was that there was no actionable intelligence. I’ve asked this many times, and always get interesting answers from liberals: what was Bush supposed to have done?

  • Warn the airlines? They were
  • Warn the airports? They were
  • Put soldiers in the airports? He could have asked the Governors to put the National Guard in them, since it is illegal to deploy active duty troops inside the US (Posse Comitatus).
  • For how long? Does anyone actually think that elected Democrats, liberals, and the ACLU would allow this without accusing Bush of being a dictator and all the other insane stuff they accused him of being?
  • The only rational thing to do would have been to profile Middle Eastern looking Muslim men. They were the ones who would be attacking. Thing Democrats, Liberals, the ACLU, and CAIR would have stood for that?

There was no idea as to when the attacks would happen, where they would happen (obviously, NYC and D.C. would be big targets, but would they have been the targets?), what airlines, what airplanes. There were no answers to the questions “when, where, what, and whom.” Thankfully, the Clinton administration instituted the “wall between intelligence and law enforcement”, so there was no sharing. We know that there were these same warnings going back several years, so, what seemed imminent wasn’t quite so.

But, for today, forget the insane people on the left, half of which are believers in the conspiracy that Bush made 9/11 happen or didn’t stop it. These are people known as “Truthers.” Just remember what it felt like that day, and that there are people out there who do want to destroy the American way of life.

The Ugly Math Of The Chevy Volt

Or, really, the stupid reality of how government and unions run a business

(Reuters) General Motors Co sold a record number of Chevrolet Volt sedans in August —but that probably isn’t a good thing for the automaker’s bottom line.

Nearly two years after the introduction of the path-breaking plug-in hybrid, GM is still losing as much as $49,000 on each Volt it builds, according to estimates provided to Reuters by industry analysts and manufacturing experts.

Cheap Volt lease offers meant to drive more customers to Chevy showrooms this summer may have pushed that loss even higher. There are some Americans paying just $5,050 to drive around for two years in a vehicle that cost as much as $89,000 to produce.

Fortunately GM also makes vehicles that do sell and make money, like pickups and big SUVs, but the pure idiocy of selling a vehicle which loses as much as $49k per sale is staggering. And, let’s not forget that majority are sold to government.
