Mostly Non-Radical Egyptians Assault US Embassy

Good thing our efforts in Egypt have worked

(CNN) Angry protesters climbed the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo on Tuesday and tore down the American flag, apparently in protest of a film thought to insult the Prophet Mohammed.

A volley of warning shots were fired as a large crowd gathered around the compound, said CNN producer Mohammed Fahmy, who was on the scene, though it is not clear who fired the shots.

The Jawa Report thinks they have a copy of the video, and you should probably download it before Youtube goes all squishy (as usual) and bans it. Anyhow, the “protesters” hung a flag

The black flag, which hangs atop a ladder inside the compound, is adorned with white characters that read, “There is no God but Allah and Mohammad is his messenger,” an emblem often used in al Qaeda propaganda.

But, wait, it gets better! This comes from the US Embassy in Cairo

The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others

And on Twitter

It’s cool, though, to treat women like garbage, hang gays, threaten Jews and Christians, assault Coptics…..Can’t have feeeeeewings be hurt

In other words, screw your free speech, a radical Islamist’s feeling might get hurt

And that’s why the radicals win, because people like these State Dept. weenies refuse to see.

Wednesday morning update: Those first two tweets have since been deleted (hence the missing icons) after the State Department disavowed the tweets. And then Hillary Clinton put out this statement which pretty much confirms the tone and content of the tweets

Press Statement
Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
September 11, 2012

I condemn in the strongest terms the attack on our mission in Benghazi today. As we work to secure our personnel and facilities, we have confirmed that one of our State Department officers was killed. We are heartbroken by this terrible loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and those who have suffered in this attack.

This evening, I called Libyan President Magariaf to coordinate additional support to protect Americans in Libya. President Magariaf expressed his condemnation and condolences and pledged his government’s full cooperation.

Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet. The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Our commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear: There is never any justification for violent acts of this kind.

In light of the events of today, the United States government is working with partner countries around the world to protect our personnel, our missions, and American citizens worldwide.

Which is rather strange, since Liberals and the State Dept. rarely have a problem when Christian and Jews religious beliefs are denigrated.

And over in Libya, our Ambassador was killed.

We just need to double-down on our 1.5billion in aid money. That will help.

so, someone was killed, not murdered. And, we “condemn” instead of “seek to bring to justice” or “MAKE THEM PAY”.

Sounds like a formulaic statement that has no heart behind it not knowing who it was even written about.

  9. Good observation, GB. It doesn’t sound like either Clinton nor Obama are engaged in the least.
