DU Really Excited About Obama Photo

It’d be nice if they weren’t hot-linking the photo (note: the DU post did not include a link to the story, nor could I find it).

(DU)

Faygo Kid: This is the pic on the front page of The Washington Post tonight. This is our President.

This is why he must win next week.

First, if a Conservative used a name like “Faygo Kid” (think about it), they would be destroyed. Second, does that look like real compassion, or a hug than neither person really wants? Does it look like real compassion? Obama’s not a particularly caring person about anyone other than himself and his immediate family. He “doesn’t really like other people.”

This is what real compassion looks like

Poor Nicholas Kristoff Channels The Goracle

Well, was anyone expecting much more from a NY Times columnist?

Will Climate Get Some Respect Now?

Yeah, I respect the hell out of what the natural processes of the Earth can do, and have been doing for billions of years. But, if Nicholas is so concerned, he should get the big shots at the NY Times to leave the A/C off in the building. It’s supposedly bad for hotcoldwetdry.

President Obama and Mitt Romney seemed determined not to discuss climate change in this campaign. So thanks to Hurricane Sandy for forcing the issue: Isn’t it time to talk not only about weather, but also about climate?

Sure. We’ll talk about how you’ve made your life carbon neutral….oh, you haven’t.

It’s true, of course, that no single storm or drought can be attributed to climate change. Atlantic hurricanes in the Northeast go way back, as the catastrophic “snow hurricane” of 1804 attests. But many scientists believe that rising carbon emissions could make extreme weather — like Sandy — more likely.

They can believe and fantasize all they want. What they can’t do is prove it scientifically. Nic offers up a few reasons why Sandy was anthropogenically caused

Hurricanes form when the ocean is warm, and that warmth is their fuel. The Atlantic waters off the East Coast set a record high temperature this summer. Presumably most of that is natural variation, and some is human-induced climate change.

So, it’s mostly due to nature? His first reason blows away his whole premise.

Computer models suggest that hurricanes won’t necessarily become more frequent, but they may become stronger. As the United States Global Change Research Program, a collaboration of federal agencies, puts it, “The intensity of these storms is likely to increase in this century.”

Computer models. Snicker. They had been preaching that there would be more hurricanes making landfall. When that didn’t pan out (Isaac was the first since 2008, and the last Cat 3 was in 2005), they decided to shift the focus of their hysteria. And while Sandy was pretty damned big, it wasn’t that powerful. But, just to be clear, even a mid-level tropical storm is damned dangerous, especially when pushing a storm surge into an area that funnels water, with Long Island and NJ creating a capturing “L” shape. Still mostly or solely natural.

Climate change adds moisture to the atmosphere, which may mean that storms come with more rain and more flooding.

Most of the flooding was from storm surge, chump. Not rain. But, it’s a cute little talking point.

I was schooled in the far-reaching changes under way several years ago by Eskimos in Alaska, who told me of their amazement at seeing changes in their Arctic village — from melting permafrost to robins (for which their Inupiat language has no word), and even a (shivering) porcupine. If we can’t see that something extraordinary is going on in the world around us, we’re in trouble.

My goodness, the Earth changes? Who would have thought that could happen. You know, like during the previous warm periods, which were warmer than today.

There are no easy solutions, but we may need to invest in cleaner energy, impose a carbon tax or other curbs on greenhouse gases, and, above all, rethink how we can reduce the toll of a changing climate. For example, we may not want to rebuild in some coastal areas that have been hammered by Sandy.

That’s strange, he doesn’t talk at all about the changes he’s made in his own life. Warmists never talk about that, because they never do.

Study Suggests That Immigrants Soaked Up 2/3rds Of The Jobs Gains

Surprise!

(Washington Times) Two-thirds of those who have found employment under President Obama are immigrants, both legal and illegal, according to an analysis that suggests immigration has soaked up a large portion of what little job growth there has been over the past three years.

The Center for Immigration Studies is releasing the study Thursday morning, a day ahead of the final Labor Department unemployment report of the campaign season, which is expected to show a sluggish job market more than three years into the economic recovery.

That slow market, combined with the immigration numbers, could explain why Mr. Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney have struggled to find a winning jobs message in some of the country’s hardest-hit postindustrial regions.

“It’s extraordinary that most of the employment growth in the last four years has gone to the foreign-born, but what’s even more extraordinary is the issue has not even come up during a presidential election that is so focused on jobs,” said Steven A. Camarota, the center’s research director, who wrote the report along with demographer Karen Zeigler.

His numbers are stark: Since the first quarter of 2009, the number of immigrants of working age (16 to 65) who are employed has risen 2 million, from 21.2 million to 23.2 million. During the same time, native-born employment has risen just 1 million, to reach 119.9 million.

Oh, and speaking of jobs reports, the Labor Department will release it’s jobs report on time Friday. ADP has their report out now

Companies added 158,000 jobs in October, data from a payrolls processor showed on Thursday in a revamped report on the private sector labor market.

That sound pretty good, eh? Liberals were ecstatic over that report. But…

The historical data for the ADP National Employment Report was revised as part of the new methodology, which was used for the first time in the October report. September’s increase has halved to 88,200 new jobs from an initially reported 162,000.

This is the Obameconomy.

Joe Being Joe: “Transgender Discrimination The Civil Rights Issue Of Our Time”

If you would, just imagine a facepalm gif here, OK?

(The Blaze) During an address to an Obama for America Florida field office on Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden apparently told volunteers and reporters that transgender discrimination is “the civil rights issue of our time.” When a woman (Biden said her beautiful eyes caught his attention) asked a question that was initially inaudible to reporters and the audience, he responded with his statement about “civil rights.”

That might be news to all the Blacks who were descendents of slaves, and whom saw the Democrat Party attempt to stop the Civil Rights Act.

October Hurricanes More Prevalent When CO2 Was Below 350ppm

An interesting graphic via Steven Goddard

As Steven points out: “October hurricane strikes occurred almost three times as often during the 19th century as they do now. They used to happen about once every 1.7 years, and now they happen about once every five years.”

So, perhaps that means that anthropogenic global warming, also known as “climate change”, should be a good thing, right? Of course, Warmists will now claim that while they may be less frequent, they’re bigger and more powerful. Alas, they have no proof. Just wishful thinking. And right now, Warmists are really not enthused about the Sandy enforced week or more of Earth Hours.

If All You See…

…is the outcome of food shortages from too much use of fossil fuels (by others), you might just be a Warmist

The blog of the day is Watts Up With That?, with a post on who does/doesn’t believe Sandy was caused by Mankind.

And a second blog, No Fracking Consensus, with a post on the “screw science media”, and a somewhat more risque (still SFW) photo below the fold

Yeah, I know, not bad, I just don’t put things like thongs on the front page. Oh, and the Daily Caller has the 50 “sluttiest” Halloween costumes out there.

Whoa! I Barely Recognize Parts Of The Jersey Shore Post Sandy

I grew up in a little town called Brielle. I spent lots and lots of time in Manasquan, especially at the beach. Without a caption, I wouldn’t even been able to tell you where this was in Manasquan (pics via The Star Ledger and Andrew Mills, with many more)

For those in the know, that is the corner of 1st Ave. and Brielle Road. The thing about the Jersey shore is you have the beach, which rises up to a berm of maybe 5-10 feet above sea level, and there might be a boardwalk, then it often drops down a few feet. And from Manasquan down, you have the Intracoastal Waterway, with all these “barrier islands”, which means a double whammy for any beach towns as the bays and ocean rise. Plus, getting towns which are not much above sea level further inland.

Liberals So Stressed By Election That They Can’t Exercise Or Sleep

Funny stuff, via Mary Katherine Hamm

(San Fran Chronicle) There’s no shortage of their kind in the politically bluest parts of California. Liberals so freaked out about the prospect of President Obama losing his re-election bid that they can’t sleep at night. Can’t talk about anything else. Can’t stop parsing the latest polls.

For the past several weeks, the 60-year-old San Francisco resident has frequently bolted awake in the middle of the night, in “a panic attack,” she said. She darts for her computer and checks the latest polls. Some days she’s so distraught that she can’t exercise.

Every morning, she gets e-mails from friends who’ve been just as sleepless. Most are so tense, they can croak out only a few words. “Very anxious.” “Worried.”

It’s a good time to be a mental health professional, especially if Obama loses. But, um, er, after Bush won re-election in 2004, there were quite a few mental health professionals who suffered PEST (post election stress syndrome) themselves. Will we get another round of liberals unable to get out of bed and go to work (or unable to spend lots of time looking for and applying for jobs in this pitiful Obameconomy)?

Anyhow, these same San Fran liberals were freaking out after the first debate, and it just got worse for them

Then Obama started dropping in the polls.

“Oh my God,” Ikels said. “I didn’t really start paying serious attention to the race until then. All the Republicans were tearing each other up during the primaries and they were all looking insane, so I thought (Obama) would be all right.”

I suspect this is an attitude common throughout Liberal World. And certainly Republicans are, as MKH points out, are “not immune to worry over the election or the fate of the country”, but I’m not losing sleep or too stressed to hit the gym every day I can. And, if I wake up and Obama is the winner, I won’t mope around for weeks. I’ll just get right back to work attempting to stop his far left agenda, as will most Republicans. Liberals take politics entirely too personally.

Obama To Sandy Victims: “We Leave Nobody Behind”

Obama was out trying to “look” presidential yesterday in the wake of Sandy, and I caught this

The whole “hey, look, I’m acting presidential” speech was even worse, and he said:

(Breitbart) This is a tough time for a lot of people; millions of folks all across the Eastern Seaboard, but America’s tougher. And we’re tougher because we pull together, we leave nobody behind, we make sure we respond as a nation and remind ourselves that whenever an American is in need, all of us stand together to make sure we’re providing the help that’s necessary.

As John Nolte writes

That’s a beautiful sentiment, Mr. President, but where was it when the cameras weren’t rolling; when your government heard three plaintive pleas for assistance from Americans under attack and with help reportedly close enough to make a difference?

John points out that it is an interesting study in reactions, one where Obama is appearing as engaged and has suspended his campaign, the other where he tuned out and hit the campaign trail to head to Vegas. It begs the question “why did the Obama administration act in that fashion post-Benghazi?” Obama could have come out smelling like a rose had he sent in forces to rescue our people in Benghazi and come out strong against this terrorist attack. Instead, people are now wonder exactly what was going on that caused the administration to leave Americans to die.

The White House Flickr stream has a bunch of photos of Obama “looking concerned” over Sandy (such as this one), but nothing from September 11 when our people were under assault.

Nice Deb is not impressed by Obama’s words, nor is the PJ Tattler and The Gateway Pundit. I’m sure there will be plenty of photos of Obama “looking presidential” coming soon to be even more not impressed by.
