Oops: David Gregory Probed By Police Over Illegal Magazine

Not the really weird p0rn type of magazine, for those with their minds in the gutter

(Politico) The Washington Metropolitan Police Department is investigating whether any city laws were violated when NBC’s David Gregory displayed what appeared to be a 30-round gun magazine on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, a spokesman confirmed to POLITICO.

“The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating this matter,” said police officer and spokesman Araz Alali in an interview Tuesday.

On Sunday, in an interview with the National Rifle Association’s head, Wayne LaPierre, Gregory displayed what appeared to be a 30-bullet gun magazine. He pushed LaPierre on the question of whether fewer children would have died during the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre this month had the gunman had access to fewer bullets.

The presence of the gun magazine on the show raises questions about a section in the D.C. code — much cited by conservatives and gun rights activists after “Meet the Press” on Sunday — which stipulates that “No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. For the purposes of this subsection, the term ‘large capacity ammunition feeding device’ means a magazine,” among other devices.

Yet another example of a Liberal who wants controls for thee, but not themselves. Doesn’t matter if the magazine was for demonstration purposes. He could have used a picture of a large capacity magazine. Instead, he decided that the law didn’t apply to himself.

Of course, if someone is bent on committing mass murder they aren’t going to worry about laws banning large capacity magazines.

Holiday Sales Stink, Guess Whose Policies Aren’t To Blame

The AP/Politico just can’t find it in themselves to put any blame on the policies of Obama and Democrats

(Politico) U.S. holiday retail sales this year grew at the weakest pace since 2008, when the nation was in a deep recession. In 2012, the shopping season was disrupted by bad weather and consumers’ rising uncertainty about the economy.

A report that tracks spending on popular holiday goods, the MasterCard Advisors SpendingPulse, said Tuesday that sales in the two months before Christmas increased 0.7 percent, compared with last year. Many analysts had expected holiday sales to grow 3 to 4 percent.

“Analysts” always seem to expect something big over the past 4 years, and always seem to be surprised when the numbers typically come out low. Anyhow, 4% growth is considered “healthy”.

Shoppers were buffeted this year by a string of events that made them less likely to spend: Superstorm Sandy and other bad weather, the distraction of the presidential election and grief about the Dec. 14 massacre of schoolchildren in Newtown, Conn. The numbers also show how Washington’s current budget impasse is trickling down to Main Street and unsettling consumers. If Americans remain reluctant to spend, analysts say, economic growth could falter next year.

See? They just can’t find it in themselves to put any blame on Obama/Democrats. Now, if Bush was president, we all know he’d be the one to be Blamed. The Stimulus was a failure, along with all the other stimulus spending. $16 trillion plus in debt. Massive deficits. No budget in over 3 years from the Dem controlled Senate. Demonization of business and “rich people”. Constant calls for tax increases. Obamacare. A storm of regulations, especially those announced once the election was over. A president unwilling to do anything but negotiate for more taxes and spending. An economy that has been sputtering since the end of the recession in summer 2009. These are the major forces.

Certainly, the Newtown murders and Superstorm Sandy were bad, but they only truly affected the economic activity of a small portion of the US. The presidential election? Please. That has nothing to do with Christmas spending. But, hey, 52% of the country was dumb enough to re-elect Obama, now they can sleep in the bed of economic malaise. Unfortunately, the rest of us have to suffer along.

Joe Romm Invokes Ghost Of Christmas Future For Hotcoldwetdry

As usual, a leading Warmist forgets to tell all his followers to go out there and live the “carbon neutral” lifestyle

The Ghost Of Climate Yet To Come

Unlike Scrooge, we don’t get a spirit to show us what the future holds if we don’t change our ways.

No, we get people like Joe who are climahypocrites.

Indeed, we are only committed to about 2°C total warming so far, which is a probably manageable — and even more probably, if we did keep CO2 concentrations from peaking below 450 ppm, the small amount of CO2 we are likely to be able to remove from the atmosphere this century could well take us below the danger zone.

But if we don’t reverse emissions trends soon, we will probably triple that temperature rise, most likely negating any practical strategy to undo the impacts for hundreds of years

Since the end of the Little Ice Age we’ve seen a temperature rise of 1.4F. Big whoop. And these climamorons think if Someone (Else) doesn’t Do Something we’re going to boil the planet.

Michael Moore Provides A Typical Progressive Christmas Rant

Progressives like Moore really can’t help themselves (via Weasel Zippers)

Celebrating the Prince of Peace in the Land of Guns

These gun massacres aren’t going to end any time soon.

I’m sorry to say this. But deep down we both know it’s true. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t keep pushing forward — after all, the momentum is on our side. I know all of us — including me — would love to see the president and Congress enact stronger gun laws. We need a ban on automatic AND semiautomatic weapons and magazine clips that hold more than 7 bullets. We need better background checks and more mental health services. We need to regulate the ammo, too. […]

We are a country whose leaders officially sanction and carry out acts of violence as a means to often an immoral end. We invade countries who didn’t attack us. We’re currently using drones in a half-dozen countries, often killing civilians.

This probably shouldn’t come as a surprise to us as we are a nation founded on genocide and built on the backs of slaves. We slaughtered 600,000 of each other in a civil war. We “tamed the Wild West with a six-shooter,” and we rape and beat and kill our women without mercy and at a staggering rate: every three hours a women is murdered in the USA (half the time by an ex or a current); every three minutes a woman is raped in the USA; and every 15 seconds a woman is beaten in the USA.

Wait, wait, wait. You mean people used guns in an attempt to stop an injustice known as slavery? Perhaps Michael would have preferred that the Civil War was never fought, and Blacks left as slaves. As for women, I sent out some tweets last week

Something to think about. That CDC study (which appears to come from an outside group, just published by CDC) is here.

Oh, and let’s not forget that Michael Moore has used armed bodyguards.

Yes, Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus

Every Christmas, after the presents are opened and breakfast is being made, I read this first in the paper (ye olde parental units get an actual paper, and they live in NJ). It is a Christmas classic that has always touched my soul. While some people outside of the Tri-State area have heard of it, rarely do papers outside of the NY-NJ-Conn area see it in print, and it always surprises me when I run across someone who has not ever heard the first line. I humbly bring it to you, and hope it touches you as much as it touches me:

Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus

Editorial Page, New York Sun, 1897

We take pleasure in answering thus prominently the communication below, expressing at the same time our great gratification that its faithful author is numbered among the friends of The Sun:

I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, “If you see it in The Sun, it’s so.” Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?
Virginia O’Hanlon

Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a sceptical age. They do not believe except what they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.

He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The external light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies. You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if you did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived could tear apart. Only faith, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus? Thank God he lives and lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!!

And a Merry Christmas from deep down in my heart to all my friends and visitors out there.

If you would like to know the background on the letter, you can go to the 2004 posting of this.

Merry Christmas, Everyone!

Because You Took A Fossil Fueled Trip For Christmas, The World Might End

I have to wonder if people a couple hundred years in the future will look back on the AGW doom craze and laugh, much as we look back at doomsayers of the past

Climate Change: Will Global Warming Create “The End Of The World”

Again, if the phrase “climate change is mentioned, we aren’t discussing science, we’re discussing politics. Anyhow, blah blah blah, standard Warmist complaints, mentions of consensus, evil CO2, blah blah blah

What it all boils down to is this. Human activity on the planet earth has a direct correlation to global warming, as all evidence points to the fact that greenhouse gases are responsible for the rising global temperatures of recent decades.

What caused the previous warm periods? Hey, how about the end of the last glacial period?

Earth has seen a major in increase in the frequency of earthquakes measuring 5.0 or larger on the Richter scale, and combined with recent volcanic activity leads one to wonder if this all isn’t connected somehow.

One can also wonder if meth usage increases brain power.

If things don’t change soon, perhaps we will see the end of the world as we know it. One thing’s for certain, we need to reduce the amount of fossil fuels that we burn on this planet, in an effort to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. Hopefully this will reverse the effects of global warming to some degree.

Good luck with that. Warmists certainly won’t reduce their own usage. I’m betting the story writer doesn’t walk or ride Gaia friendly bicycles to visit his kids in Nevada.

The Message Of Christmas Is Important For Hotcoldwetdry Or Something

Warmists really can’t help themselves. Every holiday they have to insert “climate change” into the narrative in an attempt to spread awareness. Here’s yet another from Stephen Bede Scharper at the Toronto Star

This Christmas, many of us will hear, hum or sing along to “Joy to the World,” the perduring 1719 Christmas hymn penned by the prolific hymnster Isaac Watts (1674-1748). Based on Psalm 97 from the Hebrew Scriptures, “Joy to the World” remains, according to some accounts, the most widely published Christmas hymn in North America.

It is the “Born to Run” of the Christmas carol world.

And, intriguingly, it is also one of the most ecologically fertile Christmas hymns ever composed.

The second verse, for example, while encouraging “men” in their joyous proclaiming of Jesus’ birth, doesn’t stop with the human family. It notes that “fields and floods” as well as “rocks, hills and plains/repeat the sounding joy.” The entire planet joins with the angels in celebrating the Nativity. Thus, the hope and promise of Christmas is meant for all the created world, not just the unfeathered bipeds, i.e., us.

The hymn could just as easily and aptly be called “Joy to the Earth.”

This idea that Christmas is both a call to and celebration of co-creation is especially important today in the midst of accelerating climate change. Through our severe ecological challenges, most of which are of our own making, we are beginning to understand our deep estrangement from creation.

Yeah, that acceleration which saw the same average global temperature as 16 years ago.

Even in a time of human-engendered climate change, the beauty of companionship with the Earth is always open to us.

Christmas encourages us to embrace this companionship and “repeat the sounding joy” throughout our lifetimes.

There you go, Warmists: in the spirit of Christmas, you should immediately make your own lives “carbon neutral”. Give up your fossil fueled vehicles, stop all fossil fueled travel, turn your thermostat way down (when your mother in law complains about it being 60 degrees inside, tell her you’re saving the planet), restrict yourself and your guests to 2 minute showers and 2 sheets of TP, unplug all appliances not in use, and only buy local for your Christmas meal (which should be small to heal the planet). It’s up to you. Embrace the companionship.
