Washington Looks Towards Making Abortion An Insurance Requirement

Once again, we can see where the priorities of Democrats lie, with abortion on demand being one of their top sacraments

(The Blaze) With 21 states having adopted bans or severe restrictions on insurance companies from paying for abortions, Washington is alone in seriously considering legislation mandating the opposite.

The Reproductive Parity Act, as supporters call it, would require insurers in Washington state who cover maternity care – which all insurers must do – to also pay for abortions.

The bill passed the state House earlier this month by a vote of 53-43, though it faces an uncertain future in the Senate. (A similar bill in the New York state Assembly has been introduced each session for over a decade but has never received a public hearing.)

“This is a core value for Washingtonians,” said Melanie Smith, a lobbyist for NARAL Pro-Choice Washington. “We should protect it while we still have it and not leave access to basic health care up to an insurance company.”

Got that? Aborting a baby is considered “basic health care”. If you’ve read my posts for any length of time, you know I rarely ever touch upon the abortion debate, but this is sick. Deranged. People like Smith are exactly the type of people for whom a gun permit should be denied due to mental health concerns. Anyone who thinks that abortion is a basic health concern, and that Someone Else should pay for it because the person is too irresponsible in their sexual liaisons, is crazy.

Now, it should be pointed out that, according to the article, that all major insurance carriers offer abortion in their plans, though few actually use their insurance to get an abortion. However, there are lots of smaller plans which some companies and religious institutions use because their consciences are against the killing of the unborn. They will certainly be forced to carry the coverage, which violates the 1st Amendment, as well as Section 11 of the Washington Constitution.

(Mr. Runner in the story comments) So, the strategy is to kill your future state population, while at the same time making it less attractive for companies to do business in your state by increasing their insurance costs. Sounds like a wonderful strategy (if you are a brain-dead liberal sheep).

Interestingly, it also seems that liberal men are more vocal about pushing abortion than liberal women. I wonder why?

Hmm, Maybe There Are “Green” Jobs

Just not the type you’re thinking of

(Market Watch) America can boast only 500 green jobs in solar electric power generation, but 886,000 green jobs in government — many for passage of environmental laws, enforcement of environmental regulations, and administration of environmental programs, according to the new count of green jobs for 2011 released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics this week.

Supposedly there are 3.4 million green jobs in the US. Quite a few are silly, and even more are simply people working for environmental companies and producing nothing but talking points and agitation.

These 5 Ancient Monsters Couldn’t Survive Climate Change, So How Can We?

So we have

  1. Gigantopithecus, which “ruled the trees till 100,000 years ago, when climate changes wiped out their food supplies”.. Yeah, that was during an ice age. Purely natural.
  2. Arthropleura armata, which “died out about 300 million years ago when the Permian period dropped oxygen levels and wilted tropical habitats into deserts.” Yeah, natural again, where all the continents were joined.
  3. Entelodont, which died out 5 million years ago as “global cooling transformed tropical forests to open grasslands.” Cooling again.
  4. Neanderthals, which “disappeared about 10,000 years ago”, because they were supposedly too stupid to survive the completely natural change from ice age to a really nice climate.
  5. Brontosaurus, which is perfect, since there was no such creature, so, using a made up creature to highlight a made up issue. Perfect.

But, dooooooom

Enjoy our limited engagement. Savor a steak. Grab a beer. Check out some nature. Humans are blazing trails in a mad rush for Earth’s 6th mass extinction, exhausting forests and fisheries while poisoning air, soil, and water. Greenhouse gasses strip ozone, launch dangerous weather patterns, and drive global climate change into impending planetary desertification. Our species doesn’t breed the collective will to reverse worldwide destruction, let alone overpopulation.

Hooray! It’s Earth Hour Today! Which Is Worse For The Climate!

A largely symbolic hour where Climate Astrologers get to feel good about turning their lights out for one hour while being big “carbon hogs” for the rest of the year….um, wait, this “spreading awareness” and feel-good campaign is actually worse?

(Forbes) On March 23, millions of people around the world will be asked again to mark Earth Hour by switching off their lights and non-essential appliances for an hour in symbolic support for climate change mitigation. However, the question that begs to be asked: After so many years of announcing the scientific basis for climate change, is token symbolic support the way to move forward? Or should we instead be thinking of ways to actually cut carbon emissions?

What’s this “we” Kemosabi? How about if you Warmists practice what you preach all year long instead of holding a symbolic (ie meaningless) hour long turn a few lights out exercise? How can people not know about the Warmists pet religion by now? This is all Warmists want to do, symbolism, because so many in the 1st World refuse to give up their big carbon lifestyles. Anyway

Earth Hour does lessen the electrical load of power plants to some extent, thus making a small contribution for that hour by lessening the amount of coal burned. But for the most part, large power plants cannot shutdown for just one hour as there are thermal and mechanical concerns that put the plant at risk of being damaged for doing so. Power plants instead have to anticipate the sudden return of electrical loads after the hour has passed, and thus keep burning coal (or other fossil fuels) while the event is happening – in what engineers call a “spinning reserve” mode. Electrical engineers also know that when an appliance is first turned on, there is a higher current needed at the start as opposed to what is needed when the appliance is already operating. In effect, the end of Earth Hour is actually more detrimental to climate mitigation because simultaneously turning on so much equipment all at once creates a surge current that results in a sudden spike in power demand.

Now that’s some funny stuff. Earth Hour is worse for the Warmists fantasy climate than leaving the lights on. Lest one think this is written by a “skeptic”

It’s easy for most Warmists to engage in their miniscule feel good event: they know the power is still there. Me, I won’t be turning all my lights on or doing anything extra: I’ll just be content with knowing I have power so I can sit on the couch and watch my NJ Devils take on the Florida Panthers with a few lights on so I can read and play on the laptop.

Senate Holds Marathon Session To Pass Meaningless Budget

By meaningless, I mean it is non-binding, as in “it has no force of law”, as in, it is completely symbolic

(Fox News) An exhausted Senate approved its first budget in four years early Saturday, calling for almost $1 trillion in tax increases over the coming decade while sheltering safety net programs targeted by House Republicans.

While their victory was by a razor-thin 50-49, the vote let Democrats tout their priorities. Yet it doesn’t resolve the deep differences the two parties have over deficits and the size of government.

The nonbinding but politically symbolic measure caters to party stalwarts on the liberal edge of the spectrum just as the House GOP measure is crafted to appeal to more recent tea party arrivals.

Democrats in the Senate can finally say “we passed a budget”, a legal requirement which we’ve blown off for 4 years. Yeah us!

The Democratic budget envisions $975 billion in unspecified new taxes over the coming 10 years. There would be an equal amount of spending reductions coming chiefly from health programs, defense and reduced interest payments as deficits get smaller than previously anticipated.

Much like Obamacare, we have to pass the budget in order to find out what the taxes are. Dems really do not want to be put on record as saying what they really want to do with taxation.

They voted in favor of giving states more powers to collect sales taxes on online purchases their citizens make from out-of-state Internet companies, and to endorse the proposed Keystone XL pipeline that is to pump oil from Canada to Texas refineries.

They also approved amendments voicing support for eliminating the $2,500 annual cap on flexible spending account contributions imposed by Obama’s health care overhaul, and for charging regular postal rates for mailings by political parties, which currently qualify for the lower prices paid by non-profits.

Also

(The Hill) The House did accept three Democratic amendments, including two that had support from Republicans. They would allow Congress to pass a law protecting women against paycheck discrimination and protect lower-income Americans from tax hikes. The first one was approved by voice vote.

Approval of amendments, however, does not change U.S. law, as they are simply amendments to a non-binding budget resolution. Thus, Thursday’s approval of an amendment calling for an end to the medical device tax will not result in the actual repeal of that tax.

Funny how so many parts of Obamacare need to be changed because of the damage it does to American citizens. But, remember, non-binding, ie, no force of law, ie, worthless, except for politics.

Prosecutor Seeks Death Penalty For Punxsutawney Phil

(Washington Post) As severe cold grips the eastern U.S. on March 21, Punxsutawney Phil’s forecast for an early spring is best described as an epic failure.  The prosecuting attorney of Butler County, Ohio, Michael Gmoser, wants the groundhog to pay for his flawed prediction, with his life.

Gmoser filed an indictment against Phil which reads accordingly:

On or about February 02,2013, at Gobbler’s Knob, Punxsutawney Phil did purposely, and with prior calculation and design, cause the people to believe that Spring would come early. Contrary to the Groundhog day report, a snowstorm and record low temperatures have been and are predicted to continue in the near future, which constitutes the offense of MISREPRESENTATION OF EARLY SPRING, a Unclassified Felony, and against the peace and dignity of the State Of Ohio.

SPECIFICATION: The people further find and specify that due to the aggravating circumstances and misrepresentation to the people that the death penalty be implemented to the defendant, Punxsutawney Phil

Well, yeah, he’s not really serious. But, it just goes to show that a groundhog is no better at predicting weather than Warmists are.

Bummer: Spring More Like Winter

Of course, we know that some climate astrologist will blame this on climate change, but for the moment

(Detroit News) “First day of spring?” said a WWJ-Detroit Radio forecasterWednesday morning in frigid, below-normal, 21-degree, Midwest temperatures with little relief in sight. “Feels more like the first day of January.”

What a difference a year makes.

Last March, the media welcomed spring in a panic over global warming, as local and national media sensationalized unseasonably warm temperatures. “”Meteorologists and other weather commentators have frequently commented they’ve never seen anything like this, exhausting superlatives,” hyperventilated Washington Post meteorologist Jason Samenow, citing the usual Horsemen of the Apocalypse, NASA’s James Hansen and activist Bill McKibben. “The background increases in greenhouse gases – at levels unprecedented in at least 800,000 years – are stacking the deck for more extreme heat events such as this and we have observed increases in average and extremely high temperatures.”

That was soooo 12 months ago. As usual, the global warming crowd was confusing weather and climate (not to mention hysteria and science). The science tells us the globe hasn’t warmed in 14 years, even as the planet trends warmer out of the Little Ice Age of the mid-19th century.

This doesn’t mean the Earth is heading into another cool period similar to the Little Ice Age or the Dark Age, nor even a glacial period. This simply means that the Earth’s climate is doing what the Earth’s climate does: namely, it’s own thing. That’s the explanation. Weather happens. Right now the Earth is in a long term (as in a couple of hundred years) warmer climate trend, but just like there will be really warm times during a cool period, there will be cool times during a warm trend. There’s little to nothing anthropogenic about it. Just nature doing nature things.
