Obama Abdicates, Has Newtown Victim’s Mom Give Weekly Address

“Perfect moral authority”? Over the years we’ve seen Obama use the Weekly Address as simply an extension of his extreme partisan ways and part of the Neverending Campaign. With this week’s we see him officially turn the Office of the President Of The United States into a pure partisan left wing communication tool

(The Blaze) The mother of a first-grade boy shot dead inside Sandy Hook Elementary School sat in for President Barack Obama in his weekly address, choking back tears as she begged Americans to act on gun violence.

Francine Wheeler, whose 6-year-old son, Ben, was killed along with 19 other students and six educators in Newtown, Conn., sat with her husband, David, and urged: “Please help us do something before our tragedy becomes your tragedy.”

Wheeler is the first person other than Obama or Vice President Joe Biden to deliver the weekly address since they took office. Obama asked Wheeler to deliver the address; she and her husband wrote the remarks themselves.

While we grieve with the parents, we also note that Connecticut had some of the most stringent gun laws in the nation but still failed to stop Adam Lanza from proceeding with his long planned and well thought out murderous rampage, one which intentionally targeted a school which was a gun free zone because of the ease. We see that none of the laws proposed and/or passed would have stopped this or the other murder sprees. We see that the draconian gun laws in Chicago have failed to stop the gun violence in the town, while leaving law abiding citizens with no legal means to protect themselves and their families (pro tip: peeing on yourself won’t work, particularly because you’ll probably pee yourself when you’re shot).

As usual, Obama and the left are using the parents of Adam Lanza’s victims (we need to stop calling them the “Newtown victims”. It was Adam Lanza who did this) as human shields in order to push their left wing agenda. They couldn’t care less about these people, they simply want to use them then discard them, as they so often do. And notice that, despite supposedly writing the address themselves, the language is almost the same as Obama and other Democrats use. Things like

“And in the four months since we lost our loved ones, thousands of other Americans have died at the end of a gun. Thousands of other families across the United States are also drowning in our grief,” Wheeler said.

There were 25,580 deaths by motor vehicle during the first 9 months of 12 (do not have all the data yet), yet, were are the calls to do away with cars? If we could save just one life….

She said Americans must convince the Senate to pass “commonsense gun responsibility reforms” to make communities safer and prevent more tragedies like Newtown — even as “a lot of people are fighting to make sure they never” succeed.

Yet, again, nothing proposed would have stopped these crimes. And nothing proposed really goes after the criminals, just average citizens.

Oops: 2012 Drought Not Caused By Globull Warming

Damned deniers and all their non-peer reviewed data, probably funded by Exxon and BP. Uber-climate astrologer Seth Borenstein brings us the 411

(Times Colonist) Last year’s huge drought was a freak of nature that wasn’t caused by man-made global warming, a new federal science study finds.

Scientists say the lack of moisture usually pushed up from the Gulf of Mexico was the main reason for the drought in the American heartland.

Thursday’s report by dozens of scientists from five different federal agencies looked into why forecasters didn’t see the drought coming. The researchers concluded that it was so unusual and unpredictable that it couldn’t have been forecast.

“This is one of those events that comes along once every couple hundreds of years,” said lead author Martin Hoerling, a research meteorologist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. “Climate change was not a significant part, if any, of the event.”

That’s weird: just last year Borenstein, the Associated Press’ resident climahysteric, blamed it on “climate change”. Even more strange, Seth forgets to mention that in the above article. But, don’t worry, he attempts say the report isn’t good.

Kevin Trenberth, climate analysis chief at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, a federally funded university-run research centre, said the report didn’t take into account the lack of snowfall in the Rockies the previous winter and how that affected overall moisture in the air. Nor did the study look at the how global warming exacerbated the high pressure system that kept the jet stream north and the rainfall away, he said.

“This was natural variability exacerbated by global warming,” Trenberth said in an email. “That is true of all such events from the Russian heat wave of 2010, to the drought and heat waves in Australia.”

What he means is that man-induced global warming (remember, just .08C increase since 1997 and .28F since 1990) is behind it, all because you drove and SUV and used hairspray. Warmists really, really, really hate science.

Crazy Admiral Locklear Doubles Down On Climate Change

Having solved all other problems in the Pacific, like North Korea close to having nuclear tipped missile, Admiral Locklear focuses on “climate change”

(ACJ) Admiral Samuel Locklear is head of U.S. Pacific Command, overseeing operations of all four main military branches in that critical area. North Korea, for example, is Locklear’s headache. A China that has become increasingly aggressive about asserting its territorial claims with Japan and other countries is also his headache.

Earlier this week, at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, the senator and the admiral shared a little colloquy on the question of climate change. It went something like this:

INHOFE: “Admiral, I’d like to get clarification on one statement that was I think misrepresented. It was in the Boston Globe it  reported that you indicated, and I’m quoting noew from the Boston the Globe now, the biggest long-term security challenge in the Pacific region is climate change. I’d like to have you clarify what you meant by that. … ”

Locklear did not back down, saying that the Pacific Rim is an area of high population growth, and that much of that growth is occurring in coastal or litoral areas, where people would be vulnerable to storms, flooding, rising sea level and other problems. He went on:

“From 2008 to 2012, about 280,000 people died (in natural disasters in the Pacific region). It was not not all climate change or weather-related, but a lot of them were due to that. About 800,000 people were displaced and there was about $500 billion of lost productivity. So when I look and I think about our planning and I think about what I have to do with allies and partners, and I look long-term, it’s important that countries in this region build capabilities into their infrastructures to be able to deal with the types of things … “

Good thing Locklear has his priorities straight, focusing on bad weather supposedly caused by a trace gas necessary for life instead of North Korea, China, the spread of Islamists, etc. Strange how lots of other bad weather happened before CO2 was above 350ppm.

Rep. Duncan Likens Gun Registration To Rwanda Massacre

And the liberals freaked and went overboard, as the so-called Smartest People In The Country, the self-described super education, are incapable of understanding the words allegory, simile, and metaphor

(The Hill) Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) warned in a Facebook post on Thursday that a national gun registry would be similar to a database used by the ruling Hutu tribe in Rwanda in the 1990s to locate and slaughter members of an opposing tribe in a genocide that killed up to 1 million people.

“The 2nd Amendment is (or should be) equal to the 1st Amendment and the 4th Amendment and all of the others,” Duncan said in his Facebook post. “Ask yourselves why it is under attack? Ask yourselves about a National gun registry database and how that might be used and why it is so wanted by progressives?”

Duncan then likened it to a tribal registry in Rwanda.

“Read about the Rwandan genocide, the Hutu and Tutsi tribes,” he continued. “Read that all Tutsi tribe members were required to register their address with the Hutu government and that this database was used to locate Tutsi for slaughter at the hands of the Hutu.”

Duncan wrote that since the government had the names and addresses of nearly all Tutsis living in Rwanda, “the killers could go door to door, slaughtering the Tutsis.”

“I use this example to warn that national databases can be used with evil consequences,” he said. “Preying on the fears of the American citizenry is not good governance.”

He wrapped up with

To blame the firearm, or a certain size magazine, or type of ammo – for the tragedies that have occurred in this nation is like blaming the knife used to kill Nicole Brown Simpson or the machetes used to slaughter a million Tutsis in Rwanda.

Here’s The Daily Kos’ Hunter

Rep. Jeff Duncan says progressives might murder registered gun owners in their homes

Metaphor. Excitable Alan Colmes

So let me get this straight: Duncan is comparing gun registration to genocide and it’s the Democrats who are “preying on fear?”

Allegory.

Mother Jones discusses, and does have a point that the Toomey-Manchin legislation does explicitly say that no records will be kept, and, we all know how the government follows the law and protects your liberty, right? Interestingly, the Rwanda bit is what the crazies have focused on. How about this?

Let’s not kid ourselves. Expanded background checks and gun show requirements would have had NO effect on stopping Aurora, Sandy Hook or Tucson. Nor would they have any effect on the violent gun-crime in Chicago.

Let’s get tough on criminals. Let’s get tough on gun-related crimes.

Let’s leave law-abiding American citizens and their Constitutional Rights alone.

Get tough on criminals? Oh, brother. Come on, Jeff, that’s silly.

Maryland Finds Awesome New Way To Tax Citizens: Rain

That’s right, citizens in 10 Maryland counties will soon be charged a tax when it rains. Why, yes, this did all originate with Obama EPA (via The Blaze)

(The Gazette) …Get ready for their newest invention, the rain tax. Here’s what’s going on:

In 2010 the Obama administration’s Environmental Protection Agency ordered Maryland to reduce stormwater runoff into the Chesapeake Bay so that nitrogen levels fall 22 percent and phosphorus falls 15 percent from current amounts. The price tag: $14.8 billion.

And where do we get the $14.8 billion? By taxing so-called “impervious surfaces,” anything that prevents rain water from seeping into the earth (roofs, driveways, patios, sidewalks, etc.) thereby causing stormwater run off. In other words, a rain tax.

The unfunded mandate boiled to to the county level, where 10 will start charging the tax on July 1.

Well, you ask, “How on earth can the government know how much impervious surface I own?” Answer: It’s not on earth, it’s in the sky. Thanks to satellite imagery and geographic information systems, Big Brother can measure your roof and driveway (and you thought drones were only used for killing terrorists).

More spying.

OK, once the counties raise this money, how is it spent? The state law is kind of squishy. It can be spent to build and maintain stream and wetland restoration projects. And, of course, a lot of it will go to “monitoring, inspection, enforcement, review of stormwater management plans and permit applications and mapping of impervious surfaces.” In other words, hiring more bureaucrats to administer the rain tax program.

It can also be spent on “public education and outreach” (whatever that means) and on “grants to nonprofit organizations” (i.e. to the greenies who pushed the tax through the various levels of government).

Interestingly, Montgomery County is already charging a “rain tax”. How’s that working out?

“(The county) holds workshops and training events to help residents understand how various projects work. Projects such as rain gardens, conservation landscaping, rain barrels and cisterns, drywells and tree planting are then offered to be installed on properties that qualify, based on the County’s assessment.”

So, I’m supposed to pay a rain tax so the county can train me how to plant a tree, which they’ll give me if, in its view, I qualify? Have we all gone mad?

Yes, they have. Welcome to Liberal World. Where they excepted government property from the tax. This might make a tiny bit of sense if the money was going to be actually used to reduce the runoff in a significant way. Alas, as typical it’s going to be pissed away.

33 Companies Come Out For Hotcoldwetdry Action

Now you know which companies to attempt to avoid (via Grist)

(Ceres) As the President unveils his budget for the coming year, 33 major U.S. companies, including eBay Inc., Nike and Limited Brands signed a “Climate Declaration,” urging federal policymakers to take action on climate change, asserting that a bold response to the climate challenge is one of the greatest American economic opportunities of the 21st century.

Signatories of the Climate Declaration are among the country’s best-known consumer brands, including EMC Corporation, IKEA, Jones Lang LaSalle, L’Oréal, the North Face, the Portland Trail Blazers, Timberland and Unilever, among others. (A full list of signatories is available at www.climatedeclaration.us.) Over the course of an ongoing campaign organized by Ceres and its BICEP (Business for Innovative Climate & Energy Policy) coalition, other leading businesses, as well as individuals, will be encouraged to sign the Declaration and join the call to action.

Well, now we know which companies to avoid as they’re raving hysterics.

“The signatories of the Climate Declaration are calling for Congress to address climate change by promoting clean energy, boosting efficiency and limiting carbon emissions — strategies that these businesses already employ within their own operations.”

There’s that progressivism (nice fascism) again, where they want their beliefs forced on everyone else.

“Businesses understand that planning for a successful future takes investment today. One of the most important things Congress can do to grow our economy and protect our planet is to pass smart climate change legislation this year. Our workforce, supply chain and consumers are counting on us to lead the way,” said Anna Walker, Director, Government Affairs and Public Policy at Levi Strauss & Co.

So, practice what you preach, and leave the rest of us along. Oh, and all these companies should immediately give up all usage of fossil fuels to ship their products and turn the AC and heating systems off at their locations, etc and so on. Bet they won’t.

See the companies below the fold

Ugh, I just bought a new pair of Nike’s. How can we avoid Intel? Nestle? Chocolate!!!!!! Symantec? Not giving them up, as I have a military grade version that is free for life. The rest I can do without. But, I’m not calling for a boycott. Just know that you pay extra for their Warmist views that they want forced on everyone else.

Good News: Gaia Friendly Coolant Can Eat Your Face

The UK Daily Mail reports on this in terms of Obama’s EPA nominee (via Tom Nelson thru Tallbloke’s Talkshop)

Gina McCarthy, who faces a hearing Thursday morning on her fitness to serve as EPA administrator, was primarily responsible for EPA’s promotion of an automotive air conditioning refrigerant that caused engine fires in Mercedes Benz testing, MailOnline can report.

McCarthy, EPA’s current air regulation chief, ‘provided the real forward motion’ for a plan to reward US automakers who used the new climate-change-friendly refrigerant known as ‘HFO-1234yf,’ according to an EPA staffer with knowledge of the agency’s internal processes who spoke on condition of anonymity.

When her EPA subagency, the Office of Air and Radiation, approved HOF-1234yf, McCarthy said that the chemical ‘helps fight climate change and ozone depletion.’

She kinda forgot to mention all the results of the tests by Daimler.

A Daimler engineer told Reuters in December that his team was ‘frozen in shock’ when they saw test after test of HOF-1234yf turn a car’s engine compartment into an inferno after small leaks were simulated. (snip)

The fireball that engulfed their precision engines was caused by a mixture of the refrigerant and air-conditioning compressor oil spraying across the engine block, producing a quick-heated mixture of toxic gas, including hydrogen fluoride – a corrosive compound that can destroy skin after the briefest of exposures and quickly cause blindness. (snip)

He also noted that when HOF-1234yf is released into the atmosphere, it decomposes into other compounds that are ‘extremely persistent’ in the environment.

Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes Benz, recalled every vehicle that used HOF-1234yf. VM, Porsche, and BMW steadfastly refuse to use it. Real world data by these companies show that there is a serious danger in the event of even a minor accident, not too mention that it is actually bad for the real environment. Yet, McCarthy pushed this refrigerant hard and seemingly downplayed the danger

Bill Wilson, president of Americans for Limited Government, called it ‘outrageous that Gina McCarthy is being considered for a promotion, when her actions in pushing this dangerous refrigerant into American automobiles shows a callous disregard both for consumers and the environment.’

‘If anything,’ he said, ‘she should be fired, and a special counsel should be appointed to get to the bottom of whether this approval is malfeasance or just incompetence.’

Yeah, but she was just trying to save us all from a burning planet, plus, hey, it would mean more cars off the road. Warmists don’t want Other People driving.
