Susan Rice To Replace Donilon As National Security Advisor

(Fox News) Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador who drew criticism for her initial account of the Benghazi terror attack, has been promoted to national security adviser, a senior White House official confirmed to Fox News.

Rice will replace Tom Donilon, who is resigning from the post. Rice, the current U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, does not need Senate confirmation for the job.

She never would have gotten through the confirmation process for Sec of State, and would have had to answer inconvenient questions regarding Benghazi. Fortunately, she’s eminently qualified to be the NSA, because, um, well, she, ah, supported Obama and went on 5 shows to give idiotic and misleading (to be charitable) talking points that no one believed.

Liberal Group Linked To Doug Shulman’s Wife Had Many White House Meetings

Funny how some people get easy peasey access to the White House and Obama, eh?

(Daily Caller) Nick Nyhart, the CEO of a liberal organization that criticizes corporate campaign spending and employs the wife of former IRS commissioner Douglas Shulman, visited the White House seven times and had two visits with President Obama around the time that the Internal Revenue Service was targeting conservative groups for extra scrutiny.

Nyhart, the president and CEO of Public Campaign, appears on the White House visitor logs seven times between September 16, 2009 and September 22, 2010.

Public Campaign wants to reduce the amount of special interest money in American politics, yet takes a boatload of money to lobby to reduce Other People’s money. And shares a floor with other progressive groups that take a boatload of money.

Public Campaign is funded by the pro-Obamacare coalition Health Care for America NOW! and other progressive donors and foundations.

As The Daily Caller first reported, former IRS commissioner Douglas Shulman’s wife Susan L. Anderson is the senior program advisor for Public Campaign.

Nyhart’s seven White House visits included two meetings with “POTUS,” or the President of the United States, on December 15, 2009 and on May 10, 2010 in the East Room.

And the IRS targeting started in March, 2010. Just a coincidence, right?

But, but, but, Bush appointed Shulman!!!!!!1!!!! Yeah, the same one who donated to the DNC in 2004 and whose wife works for a far left Progressive organization.

Michelle Obama Has Fit Over Heckler

Granted, there’s a time and place for everything, and heckling someone giving a speech can be rude, but, it is protected by 3 parts of the 1st Amendment (free speech, redress of grievance, and protest peaceably)

(Washington Post) First lady Michelle Obama experienced a rare face-to-face encounter with a protester late Tuesday – approaching the activist and threatening to leave a fundraiser if the person did not stop interrupting her speech.

Obama was addressing a Democratic Party fundraiser in a private Kalorama home in Northwest Washington when Ellen Sturtz, 56, a lesbian activist, interrupted her remarks to demand that President Obama sign an anti-discrimination executive order.

Obama showed her displeasure – pausing to confront Sturtz eye to eye, according to witnesses.

“One of the things that I don’t do well is this,” she said to applause from most of the guests, according to a White House transcript. “Do you understand?”

A pool report from a reporter in the room said Obama “left the lectern and moved over to the protester.” The pool report quoted Obama as saying: “Listen to me or you can take the mic, but I’m leaving. You all decide. You have one choice.”

They forgot to include that part in the official White House transcript.

What you have is two rude people going head to head. One, because they want (NMP) Obama to Do Something regarding anti-discrimination for LGBT people (note: everyone should be treated equally under the law, IMO, and under the Constitution), and the other thinking she should not have to deal with anyone daring to engage in their 1st Amendment Rights.

Sturtz was escorted out of the room. She said in an interview later she was stunned by Obama’s response.

“She came right down in my face,” Sturtz said. “I was taken aback.”

Sturtz said she told Obama she was happy to take the microphone to plead her case, which, Sturtz said, appeared to fluster the first lady.

It was a planned protest by Sturtz’s group, GetEqual. And it is interesting to see how Liberals and the LGBT supporters react to this. Most have seemed to take the side of Michelle Obama, calling Sturtz rude, at the least. Which is interesting to compare regarding how they idolized people who heckled President Bush and Laura Bush, including the ones who became violent. Yet, can anyone find an example of George and/or Laura acting in the same manner as Michelle? Barack hasn’t typically been graceful when confronted with hecklers, either.

As a gay man, to read the classlessness, and the crude remarks made by gay men and women is horrifying! What is wrong with you people? This President and his first lady have been more supportive aggressively for the LGBT community and you all sound like those idiot republican senators from Texas, or the south! SHUT THE F UP…and learn exactly HOW to get government to actually vote for your causes. You obviously don’t have a clue…Embarrassing.

To which I replied

As a non-gay Conservative man, I find it appalling that the 1st Lady would treat someone exercising their 1st Amendment Rights to petition for redress of grievance and protest peaceably with such disregard and classnessless. And that you, Bruce, would tell people engaged in their 1st Amendment Rights to “STFU”. The president and 1st Lady are not King and Queen, they are our employees, public servants, and should treat protesters with respect.

Does anyone think that either Bush, or any Republican, wouldn’t be excoriated by Liberals, the LGBT community, and the media if they acted in that way? Heck, the media used to love Bush hecklers. Consider their headline for their Michelle O article: First Lady Refuses to Let a Heckler Go Unscolded. ObamaWuv.

1st World Problems: Talking To Your Kids About “Climate Change”

‘The Talk’ — How to Tell Your 8-Year-Old About Climate Change

When Ian Kim imagines the world his 7-year-old daughter will be living in 20 years from now, he says, it keeps him up at night. Images of ever more frequent super storms like Sandy, along with rising seas, or drought and heat waves wreaking havoc with crops haunt his waking hours.

“It’s a huge worry for me,” said Kim, a self-described environmental and social justice activist. “On a scale of 1 to 10, it’s a 10.”

It’s a sentiment likely shared by parents the world over, though it’s especially pronounced among those working close to the issue. Kim described climate change as “a slow motion disaster that is already happening right now.”

Interestingly, what’s missing in the entire article is any notion that these climaparents are actually making changes within their own lives.

Unsurprisingly, the people quoted in the story are far left activists (one worked for a Van Jones group) or have a vested interest in pushing hotcoldwetdry (one has husband who works for a solar panel company).

Fortunately, an entire generation will soon graduate having experienced no statistically significant warming.

Surprise! Obama Political Appointees Using Secret Email Addresses

This was not just Lisa Jackson, but others, and, apparently just because their regular inboxes are overloaded or something.

(Newsday) Some of President Barack Obama’s political appointees, including the secretary for Health and Human Services, are using secret government email accounts they say are necessary to prevent their inboxes from being overwhelmed with unwanted messages, according to a review by The Associated Press.

The scope of using the secret accounts across government remains a mystery: Most U.S. agencies have failed to turn over lists of political appointees’ email addresses, which the AP sought under the Freedom of Information Act more than three months ago. The Labor Department initially asked the AP to pay more than $1 million for its email addresses.

The AP asked for the addresses following last year’s disclosures that the former administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency had used separate email accounts at work. The practice is separate from officials who use personal, non-government email accounts for work, which generally is discouraged — but often happens anyway — due to laws requiring that most federal records be preserved.

So, what’s the problem?

The secret email accounts complicate an agency’s legal responsibilities to find and turn over emails in response to congressional or internal investigations, civil lawsuits or public records requests because employees assigned to compile such responses would necessarily need to know about the accounts to search them. Secret accounts also drive perceptions that government officials are trying to hide actions or decisions.

“What happens when that person doesn’t work there anymore? He leaves and someone makes a request (to review emails) in two years,” said Kel McClanahan, executive director of National Security Counselors, an open government group. “Who’s going to know to search the other accounts? You would hope that agencies doing this would keep a list of aliases in a desk drawer, but you know that isn’t happening.”

Let’s be clear, this is not necessarily illegal, and they could be called “secondary email accounts”. However, what we saw with Lisa Jackson and her “Richard Windsor” account was an attempt to circumvent FOIA requests, transparency, requests from Congress, and a way to spread propaganda and coordinate secretly with fringe environmental and “climate change” groups.

Unsurprisingly, many agencies are stonewalling the AP’s FOIA request

Ten agencies have not yet turned over lists of email addresses, including the Environmental Protection Agency; the Pentagon; and the departments of Veterans Affairs, Transportation, Treasury, Justice, Housing and Urban Development, Homeland Security, Commerce and Agriculture. All have said they are working on a response to the AP.

And tried to hide information about Sebelius

The Health and Human Services Department initially turned over to the AP the email addresses for roughly 240 appointees — except none of the email accounts for Sebelius, even one for her already published on its website. After the AP objected, it turned over three of Sebelius’ email addresses, including a secret one. It asked the AP not to publish the address, which it said she used to conduct day-to-day business at the department. Most of the 240 political appointees at HHS appeared to be using only public government accounts.

Sebelius’ wasn’t as strange as Lisa Jackson’s (yes, the AP did publish it, it’s in the above article), but, as Ed Morrissey points out, department heads tend to have people who go through correspondence, including email, to sort out the chaff from the wheat. Dana Milbank Upset Democrats Dare Accuse Bush, Bush Admin. Of Wrong Doing

Oh, wait, sorry, he’s upset that Republicans have suggested that Obama and his administration might have engaged in wrong doing and could be involved in the IRS targeting scheme

Accuse first and ask questions later

A third House committee joined the stampede to examine the IRS on Monday, and its chairman did exactly what you would expect somebody to do before launching a fair and impartial investigation: He went on Fox News Channel and implicated the White House.

Asked by Fox’s Bill Hemmer what he hoped to learn at Monday afternoon’s hearing, Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) offered this bit of pre-hearing analysis:

“Of course, the enemies list out of the White House that IRS was engaged in shutting down or trying to shut down the conservative political viewpoint across the country — an enemies list that rivals that of another president some time ago.”

It was a sentence in need of a verb but packed with innuendo. And it is part of an approach by House Republicans that seems to follow the Lewis Carroll school of jurisprudence. Not only are they placing the sentence before the verdict, they’re putting the verdict before the trial.

Welcome to politics, Dana. Remember when Democrats, and their paid flacks like Milbank (hey, if Climate Realists can be accused of being in the pay of Big Oil and Big Coal, MSM writers like Milbank can be accused of being in the pay of Big Democrat and Big Obama) were accusing before asking questions on

  • 9/11, where they accused Bush of making or letting it happen?
  • That he intentional ignored the August 6 PDB (which contained zero actionable intelligence)?
  • Valerie Plame, where they accused Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, and even Bush of outing her?
  • Halliburton, simply creating a scandal out of mid-air with the no-bid contract, despite it being the only American company that could do the job, Cheney having no monetary interest in the contract, and Clinton having done the same at times?
  • Abu Ghraib, laying the illegal actions of a few soldiers directly at the feet of Bush and Rumsfeld without proof?
  • Swift Boat Vets for Truth, immediately saying the independent group was directed by Bush and his campaign?

The list goes on and on. Heck, just consider how Team Obama Blames Bush 5 years into Obama’s “presidency” and no one in the media bats and eye, including Milbank. What Excitable Dana is upset at is that Republicans have dared to Blame Obama, the guy who had an enemies list, the guy who created the atmosphere where Conservatives and Tea Party members were bad people with his constant attacks and denigration of those groups and individuals, and who has done nothing to deal with the situation after it was exposed.

After Doing That Scientific Research Stuff, FDA Reconsidering Use Of Avandia

Originally, scientists found that the diabetes drug Avandia could cause heart attacks, so is now used as a drug of last resort (hey, how about those prescription drug commercials which use half the time to describe the possible side effects, like blindness, dark urine, and death? I really like the one about depression drugs causing suicidal thoughts). Anyhow, since the science was settle….

(WSJ) Food and Drug Administration documents released Monday suggested the agency was considering reviving a drug that has been highly restricted for nearly three years—the GlaxoSmithKline GSK.LN -0.58% PLC diabetes pill Avandia—and restoring it to full marketing status in the U.S.

Such a step is still far from certain, but it is on the agenda this week as the agency convenes a 28-member advisory committee of doctors to study the profile of Avandia, once a $3-billion-a-year medicine.

Glaxo recently paid for Duke University to review company research on Avandia. The Duke review upheld a Glaxo study that found the drug didn’t increase the risk of death or cardiovascular death.

A lengthy FDA analysis, made public Monday, endorsed the Duke review and, by implication, the company’s defense of its drug.

See, that’s the way science works. One study said “uh, oh, heart attack potential”, so another study was held. Because it was by the maker, there was concern about bias. So it was reviewed.

In the APS it is ok to discuss whether the mass of the proton changes over time and how a multi-universe behaves, but the evidence of global warming is incontrovertible?

That was from the resignation letter Nobel Prize winning physicist Ivar Giaever wrote the American Physical Society.

Bummer: Poets Can No Longer Write About The Eternal Sea

In the Era of Climate Change, Poets Can’t Write About the “Eternal Sea” – In literature, the classic metaphors for the ocean no longer make sense.

If the sea levels continue to rise at their current rate, the day is not far off when Miami and Atlantic City become beds for oysters. The fishing in the sea that was once near the surface now is done by trawls the length of locomotives dropped to the depth of a mile and dragged across the bottom, reducing many thousands of square miles of the ocean floor to barren deserts no longer giving birth to the tiny organisms from which emerge the great chains of being that sustain the life of the planet.

Nothing in the sea lives by itself, nothing either on the earth or in the air or in the minds of men. To know the sea is mortal is to know that we are not apart from it. Man is nature creatively refashioning itself. The abyss is human, not divine, a work in progress, whether made with a poet’s metaphor or with a vast prodigious bulk of Styrofoam.

We needn’t call upon an angry god to make the sea an object of no small terror. Every year we withdraw from it 160 million tons of fish, deposit in it 7 million tons of garbage. Poisonous chemicals in the Gulf of Mexico have formed a pool of dead water equivalent in size to the state of New Jersey; among the several hundred dead zones elsewhere in the world, one encircles the Chinese coastline.

There was no need to link this to hotcoldwetdry. Let the environmental issues stand on their own so we can all act on them.
