Dems War On Women: Female Physician Belittled For Attacking Obamacare

Imagine had a Republican treated a female physician in this manner

(NY Post) Dr. Patricia McLaughlin, whose ObamaCare woes were first highlighted in The Post, gave a House committee a simple prescription for the defective health care law: “Fix it!”

But Democratic lawmakers pounced on her for relating how she got hit with an ObamaCare “double whammy.”

McLaughlin told the House Oversight Committee, which invited her to testify after reading The Post article, how she had lost the group health plan for her four-person office.

Then, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield dropped her from its provider network, forcing her patients using that insurance to go elsewhere or pay out of pocket, she said.

Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-Pa.) questioned whether McLaughlin was dumped from the network because her “credentials” weren’t as good as other doctors’.

This comes via The Lonely Conservative (who you should be reading daily), who notes

Dr. McLaughlin said they treated her differently than others who testified and that it “hurt to the core” because she’s only acting as an advocate for her patients. I guess the Democrats just wanted her to know here place. She might have “MD” after her name but she’s not part of the ruling class so she better just pipe down.

Jammie Wearing Fools wonders when she can expect her IRS audit.

Obama Uses Newtown Anniversary To Push “Grassroots” Gun Control

Did you expect him to do anything else?

(The Hill) President Obama marked the anniversary of the elementary school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, and called for a nationwide grassroots push for gun control in his weekly radio address.

The president’s statement came a day after a gunman shot at least one student and then committed suicide at a suburban high school in Colorado, a few miles from Columbine High School, the site of a mass shooting in 1999.

“We haven’t yet done enough to make our communities and our country safer. We have to do more to keep dangerous people from getting their hands on a gun so easily. We have to do more to heal troubled minds,” Obama said in remarks made public Saturday morning.

By “dangerous people”, he means all private citizens. As for making communities safer, how’s that working out in gun free Chicago? Why do so many crazy attacks seem to occur in gun free zones, such as the one yesterday in Colorado? And by “we”, he means someone else should do the work, because it sounds like work, and he has better things to do, like campaigning, golf, handing power over to Putin, etc.

Obama expressed little faith in Congress acting before the mid-term election and instead called on people across the country to become active.

“We can’t lose sight of the fact that real change won’t come from Washington.  It will come the way it’s always come – from you.  From the American people,” he said.

Except, support for gun control is at pre-Newtown levels. And, it depends on what you call “gun control”. There are certainly measures that could be put in place, mostly better background checks. But Obama, a guy who is surrounded and protected by people with guns, and Dems want serious draconian restrictions that disarm law abiding citizens, leaving guns in the hands of criminals.

I suggest if Democrats really want gun control, they should start with themselves and voluntarily disarm. Turn in all their guns. Walk the talk.

Unsurprisingly, Obama has made the Newtown tragedy anniversary All About Himself with this photo (which also shows, at the moment, on the front page of whitehouse.com)

Bummer: “Climate Change” Bad For Santa Or Something

Continuing the 25 Days Of Climate Christmas

Tough sledding ahead for Santa

This Christmas is turning out to be a potentially bad season for Santa Claus.

The North Pole is melting and as it shrinks there’s the danger that it will reveal the location of the secret workshop where Santa and the elves spend most of the year making toys, cleverly disguising their origin by labeling them “Made in China.”

Moreover, as the ice melts, nations are beginning to lay claim to segments of the Pole in the belief that under the ice cap there are oil, gas and mineral deposits in addition to a super-efficient toy factory.

And then writer Dale McFeatters makes fun of Santa’s out of season and PETA enraging clothing. Fortunately, if this winter becomes the 5th out of the last 6 to be heavy…

Scientist: Heavier Snow Just One Climate Change Impact in Ohio

From heavier snowfall and rainfall to record-setting summer temperatures, many experts say climate change is happening in Ohio.

That’s how you know it’s a cult. No Warmist can tell you what conditions would disprove anthropogenic “climate change”, and no matter what happens, climate change is to blame.

Sigh: The Simpsons Includes “Climate Change” For Christmas Episode

Continuing the 25 Days of Climate Christmas

(Wicked Local) It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas – but only where The Simpsons live. The long-running Fox series will celebrate the holidays Sunday, Dec. 15 (8/7c) in predictably screwy fashion: Thanks to global warming, there’s no snow anywhere in the United States except in Springfield, where a radiation leak at the town’s nuclear-power plant has resulted in lots of local white stuff. Cue the price gouging.

“Springfield is suddenly booming with tourists who want a traditional white Christmas and that means all the prices are jacked up,” exec producer Al Jean tells TV Guide Magazine. “To cope with the new high cost of shopping, Marge turns the Simpson home into a B&B.”

Interestingly, December 11th was possibly a record for snow coverage. 4 out of the past 5 winters were very cold and snowy, and it looks like this winter will be the same. Oh, wait, sorry, I forgot that “climate change” theory proclaims that cold weather, snow, and ice is caused by too much in the way of man released GHGs. My bad!

David Brooks: Team Obama Is Incompetent, So Let’s Strengthen The Presidency

Remember when liberals, including David Brooks, advocated for a weaker Chief Executive while Bush was in office (and will surely do the same if a Republican wins in 2016)? Well, it gets better

… Make the executive branch more powerful.

This is a good moment to advocate greater executive branch power because we’ve just seen a monumental example of executive branch incompetence: the botched Obamacare rollout. It’s important to advocate greater executive branch power in a chastened mood.

I’m not quite sure which, for this full on stupidity. But, then we get

So how do you energize the executive? It’s a good idea to be tolerant of executive branch power grabs….

We don’t need bigger government. We need more unified authority.

And people think it’s crazy to call liberals fascist and authoritarian. And we should be disturbed that a leading columnist for one of the world’s most influential papers is advocating this, benign dictatorship. Of course, as mentioned, the moment a Republican wins the White House these things Brooks advocates will be out the window.

Some Parts Of Cairo See First Snowfall In 100 Years

I’m sure this is all part of “climate change”

(Baltimore Sun) Nearly three feet of snow closed roads in and out of Jerusalem, which is set in high hills, and thousands in and around the city were left without power. Israeli soldiers and police rescued hundreds trapped in their cars by snow and ice. In the West Bank, the branches of olive trees groaned under the weight of snow.

In Cairo, where local news reports said the last recorded snowfall was more than 100 years ago, children in outlying districts capered in white-covered streets, and adults marveled at the sight, tweeting pictures of snow-dusted parks and squares. In other parts of the city, rain and hail rocketed down.

The story is originally from the LA Times, which has video. Lots of photos at the Baltimore Sun article. The photo I used is from Ahram Online. There’s lots of snow all the way up through into Israel. Must be due to you, dear reader, refusing to give up your central air conditioning. Oh, wait, sorry, snow is consistent with “climate change” or something.

Yet Another Study Finds Previous Warm Periods Warmer Than Today

If only those darned people during the Roman and Medieval Warm Periods didn’t drive fossil fueled vehicles and leave their appliances plugged in when not in use. And hair spray! They used lots of hair spray! I’ve seen the movies!

(Daily Caller) If you think the Earth is hot now, try wearing plate armor in the Middle Ages.

A Swedish study found that the planet was warmer in and the Middle Ages than today, challenging the mainstream idea that man-made greenhouse gas emissions are the main drivers of global warming.

The study, by scientist Leif Kullman, analyzed 455 “radiocarbon-dated mega-fossils” in the Scandes mountains and found that tree lines for different species of trees were higher during the Roman and Medieval times than they are today. Not only that, but the temperatures were higher as well.

Well, bummer

Kullman also wrote that “summer temperatures during the early Holocene thermal optimum may have been 2.3°C higher than present.” The “Holocene thermal optimum was a warm period that occurred between 9,000 and 5,000 years ago. This warm period was followed by a gradual cooling period.”

Of course, Warmists will argue that Earth will get hotter in 50-100 years from now (when no one will remember their predictions). Gotta keep that money train rolling, and the attempt to institute more and more Progressive government with all the redistribution and Big Government control that comes with.

C3 Headlines notes that the study is peer reviewed (because Warmists always ask, despite the real problems with peer review for Warmists studies), and notes, among other things from the study

that “the emergence during the past two millennia of at least two short-term tree line and thermal excursions to higher than present levels (i.e. early 21st century) indicates that the current performance of the ecological and climatic systems is well within the envelope of the natural variability

Charts and graphs available at C3 Headlines.

I will add this caveat: I’ve noted time and time again that Mankind does bear some blame for the warming during the Modern Warm Period, mostly from agriculture, landfills, land use, and the Urban Heat Island Effect. Yes, release of GHGs does play a small part, including from CO2, methane, and few others. Still, the climatic changes are primarily natural during the Modern Warm Period. The Sun, water vapor, Earth processes, and others. Just like has been the norm for billions of years.

Obama Kick Obamacare Requirements Down The Road

Another day, another problem

(Politico) Why do Republicans even bother trying to delay Obamacare? President Barack Obama’s doing it all by himself.

On Thursday, the Obama administration gave customers permission to pay their premiums as late as Dec. 31 for coverage that starts Jan. 1, and officially gave customers an extra week — until Dec. 23 — to sign up for January coverage.

The move was just the latest in a long list of extensions, delays and punts that have plagued the health care law.

The administration is also extending a critical program — the temporary high-risk pool for people with pre-existing conditions — through the end of January, to make sure none of them suddenly lose their health coverage because they can’t sign up for new Obamacare insurance by Jan. 1.

That’s after it postponed the employer coverage requirements for a year, delayed the online enrollment for the federal health insurance exchanges for small businesses, and told health insurers they can extend people’s coverage for an extra year — a last-minute attempt to un-cancel millions of canceled policies. It also delayed the Spanish-language website, even though Hispanics are a large proportion of the uninsured population. It even postponed next year’s enrollment period, pushing it conveniently past the November elections.

Of course, this is still about the website, which is going to work correctly at some point, and, yes, people will sign up. And most likely be moved to Medicaid, but that’s a different story. And probably have their identity stolen, again, a different story. The reality is that at the end of the day, this is still a bad law, which is forcing people to chose between paying a fine/fee/tax or purchasing insurance with high premiums and deductibles, a reduced provider network, rationing, and heavy government interference in your actual health care. Politifact chose “If you like your plan you can keep your plan” as its lie of the year. It should be the lie of the year for the past three years, and share with keeping your doctor.

Meanwhile, some Liberals are really pimping some numbers released by HHS, especially Mother Jones’ Kevin Drum, who pimps the notion of Vermony “kicking ass” when it comes to signing people up for O-care

Which states are doing the best at signing up people for Obamacare? Business Insider has a state-by-state chart here showing the number of people who have completed the process 100 percent: they’ve actually chosen a specific plan and officially enrolled their families. But I figure a better measure of activity is the number of people who have completed an application and been confirmed eligible to purchase private insurance via the exchange. They still have the final enrollment step left, but they’ve obviously navigated everything successfully, which is a good measure of how smoothly things are rolling out.

Here’s a better number: those who’ve paid their initial premium. A better number would be those who’ve paid for it for at least a year. Kevin highlights a chart that shows how many in Vermont, which runs its own exchange, doing will in confirmed eligibility. Have they paid? CNN is running an article noting that 365,000 have signed up

Through November, just over 137,200 Americans have picked an insurance policy through healthcare.gov and nearly 227,500 through the 14 state-run exchanges, according to new federal figures released Wednesday. That’s up from a total of 106,000 who signed up in October.

One problem

These figures reflect people who have selected an insurance plan, but not all have paid their first month’s premium, which activates the coverage. An additional 1.94 million people have been determined eligible to enroll, but have not yet picked a policy.

Of course, HHS doesn’t have the actual figures as to how many have, you know, paid. I can chose products over at Amazon all day long and put them in the shopping cart, however that’s meaningless until I actually pay for them.

Android Tonight – Backup Apps

Just like with your computer, your Android device needs to be backed up (I hope you backup your computer). Here are a few apps that I use, brought on because Mom upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S3, was one of those “give us your phone and we’ll give you this”, and forgot to get all her pictures off her phone. She takes A LOT. She may or may not get them back. Me, I tend to use my real digital camera for when I’m taking lots of photos. Still like to back them up, though.

G Cloud backup – one of the easiest apps I’ve found to backup contacts (though you most like have them backed up through Gmail or something else automatically – if you hate Google, well, using an Android is not the best, right?), photos, vids, documents, and system settings. It can also backup call logs, messages, music, and browser data. You can have multiple accounts all linked in the same gcloudbackup.com account. You can restore data using the app, which is rather important, wouldn’t you say? I tend to use this more for my tablet than my phone.

Dropbox – this is the program I use for photo backups for my phone. It’s set to automatically upload any new photos when I’m on WiFi. Dropbox can be used for many more things. I keep lots of files in it, so they are synced up across my Droids, my laptop, and accessible on the web. All password encoded. I have a couple folders with pictures from favorite trips, books, and a few of my favorite ringtones (some Buffet, Hendrix, and Black Sabbath ones).

Easy App Backup – this is one I use exclusively on my phone, since the HTC One S has an internal only memory card (though I could probably find a way to take the phone apart and yank it out), so making a backup of the apps internally is not necessarily the best idea. With EAB, you can backup to either the memory card or Google Documents. It only backs up the APK files, not data or setting, but, hey, if you have over 100 apps, restoring easily is a benefit. Of course, if the device is lost, well, then, nice to have an online one, eh?

App Backup And Restore – I have this on both my Droids, and have made a backup on both devices. A little more useful on the tablet, since the card is removable.

With the last two, you should do backups every once in a while, it’ll save you some time as the apps are updated.

Helium is supposed to be excellent, supposedly allows app data backup, but, I could never get it to work for my phone, and it is not compatible with my tablet.
