Security Mom: We Totally Need A War On Climate Change!!!!!!

I’ve been telling you that the Cult of Climastrology movement to make climate change a big national security issue has been ramping up, and there are tons of hits in the news for this. Here’s one of them (note: this actually ran at CNN back on May 20th, and was pulled by WGBH)

Why We Need a War on Climate Change

We have a tendency to view certain public policy issues as wars. As in: The War On Drugs, Cancer, Poverty… fill in the blank. It is often a misleading analogy, but it is meant to get the public to respond to a dire need, just as they would in wartime.

The terminology, however, is entirely accurate — and literal — when it comes to our need to address the changing environment as “the war on climate change.”

Then we get standard Warmist whining, with an utter failure to provide rock solid proof that Mankind is mostly/solely responsible.

This administration should know. Now that the Arctic is relatively ice-free for several months each year, a new and lasting occurrence, the administration recently approved offshore drilling in the Arctic, bringing a new challenge to the Coast Guard’s response and recovery efforts. Having made the argument, the Administration might want to reconsider its recent budget for the Coast Guard, one that cuts acquisition spending by 17 percent.

No, the Arctic is not “relatively ice-free for several months a year. A blatant lie.

But it is not in error by calling out those who still deny the Earth’s climate instability. Skeptics of these global seismic shifts are not simply denying science, they are denying safety and security. Until we recognize — with the immediacy we would if a nation launched missiles against our cities — that climate change isn’t something that can be debated, but must be mitigated or, failing that, adapted to, we will not expend the effort or resources to prepare ourselves to the one phenomenon that we know is coming: simply, the waters are rising and this is a war.

In other words, the Cult of Climastrology actually wants to make this a war on those who disagree with the CoC’s doomy predictions and far left policy prescriptions. Let’s be clear: Skeptics are not “denying” climatic changes. We are denying that Mankind is mostly/solely responsible for those changes.

Washington Post Editorial Board Is Very Upset That Rand Paul Dared To Filibuster NSA Spying

So, we were sitting around at working, waiting for the customers, and had a discussion on NSA spying. Interestingly, a mix of Conservatives and Progressives all determined that the bulk collection of data was a Bad Thing, and a violation of our rights. Even the Muslims determined that the program should be targeted to the bad actors of their faith. Also agreed that the rewrite, where that data would be left in the hands of telecom companies for easy request by Los Federales is a Bad Thing. But, don’t tell the WPEB, which has a little hissy fit aimed at Rand Paul

Rand Paul should stop stalling the USA Freedom Act

LEGISLATION TO reform the National Security Agency’s surveillance of telephone metadata and put it on a firmer legal footing has passed the House with a huge bipartisan majority. President Obama backs it, as does a bipartisan majority in the Senate. The Senate would have passed the bill, too, but for the machinations of the majority leader, Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who favored an ill-considered perpetuation of the status quo.

For the fact that even the current, debatable legal basis of the NSA program has lapsed, at least temporarily, we have Mr. McConnell to thank — along with Kentucky’s other Republican senator. When Mr. McConnell finally allowed the reform compromise, known as the USA Freedom Act, to move Sunday, Rand Paul used procedural maneuvers to block a vote on it until at least Tuesday.

Mr. McConnell accused Mr. Paul, who’s running for president, of playing politics, which is true — up to a point. For Mr. Paul, opposition to NSA “spying” is a matter of libertarian principle bordering on passion. Indeed, the matter excites him so much that he has aimed extreme, sloppy rhetoric at those who don’t share his views, suggesting, for example, that “some people are so fearful” of terrorism that they believe “ISIS will be in every drug store in America, in every house, if we don’t get rid of the Constitution.”

So this is Important to Senator Paul. It only seems to be the Political Class which are accusing him of playing politics, despite him having had a problem with this for a long, long time. Someone should tell the WPEB that We The People also have a big damned problem with this. Hey, remember when Bush was president and liberal media outlets and online presences had a big problem with the Patriot Act (yes, many libertarians had a big problem with it, as well).

Mr. Paul is the one misstating constitutional law. “[T]he phone records of law-abiding Americans are none of the government’s business!” his campaign Web site declares. Actually, the Supreme Court held 36 years ago that there is no constitutional right to privacy in phone records (as opposed to phone conversations). The court reasoned, realistically, that customers willingly convey numbers and times to the phone company each time they dial, knowing that the company retains the information for business purposes. Technology was more primitive in 1979; the justices may well decide that Fourth Amendment doctrine needs updating. Meanwhile, it is not tyrannical for government to rely on existing precedent.

Yes, it is legal for those companies to have the data, data which, per that court opinion, is held by those companies, which customers choose to sign up with, and are provided with their terms. Consumers can choose not to engage in commerce with these companies. However, the problem here is in the Government scooping it all up from the telecom companies, and, bigger, that the NSA is directly collecting it themselves, and they are apparently collecting way more than just phone numbers and times. They are collecting emails and online activity in bulk. And this has done what, exactly? They can’t say that it has stopped any threats.

Mr. Paul calls the NSA program “illegal,” which is somewhat more plausible, since the Bush and Obama administrations stretched the terms of the USA Patriot Act to win approval for it from the secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. If so, the cure is a new law, such as the one Mr. Paul just gratuitously blocked. The USA Freedom Act leaves metadata collection to the private sector, subject to searches approved by the intelligence court, but Mr. Paul thinks anything short of a warrant from an ordinary federal court would be unconstitutional. Again, he’s entitled to his opinion; again, it’s contrary to current Fourth Amendment law, as the legislation’s authors, senior Republicans and Democrats on the House and Senate Judiciary committees, well understand.

So, the WPEB admits that it will still be pretty darned easy for the information to be taken from the telecom companies, when it comes to phone records. What of the rest? One has to wonder what the WPEB would be saying if Bush was President (or some Republican), or if the filibuster came from a Democrat Senator. The 4th gives Citizens a right to be secure in their personal effects, without a duly sworn, specific warrant.

Denouncing fear and paranoia about terrorism, Mr. Paul sows fear and paranoia about government. Today, as always, the Constitution calls on us to balance liberty and security democratically. This is what the USA Freedom Act will do, just as soon as Mr. Paul stops grandstanding and lets his colleagues vote on it.

I missed that part about balancing liberty and security in my copy of the Bill of Rights.

Iran’s Nuclear Fuel Stockpile Increased By 20 Percent During Negotiations

Fortunately, NY Times writers David E Sanger and William J. Broad do what they can to cover for Team Obama, and the story is buried on page A6

Iran’s Nuclear Stockpile Grows, Complicating Negotiations

With only one month left before a deadline to complete a nuclear deal with Iran, international inspectors have reported that Tehran’s stockpile of nuclear fuel increased about 20 percent over the last 18 months of negotiations, partially undercutting the Obama administration’s contention that the Iranian program had been “frozen” during that period.

How is this in any way “partially”? The program was either frozen or it wasn’t. If it wasn’t, as contended, then this completely undercuts Obama and his team.

But Western officials and experts cannot quite figure out why. One possibility is that Iran has run into technical problems that have kept it from converting some of its enriched uranium into fuel rods for reactors, which would make the material essentially unusable for weapons. Another is that it is increasing its stockpile to give it an edge if the negotiations fail.

Or, it could be that they are lying crap weasels who are trying to make nuclear weapons, and will never stop trying to make nuclear weapons, as those in charge of Iran keep telling us.

The extent to which Iran’s stockpile has increased was documented in a report issued Friday by the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations organization that monitors compliance with nuclear treaties. The agency’s inspectors, who have had almost daily access to most of Iran’s nuclear production facilities, reported finding no evidence that Iran was racing toward a nuclear weapon, and said Tehran had halted work on facilities that could have given it bomb-making capabilities.

But, then we read the actual report, and realize that Iran is still manufacturing nuclear fuel, and we learn (page 12 of the report)

Previous reports by the Director General have identified outstanding issues related to possible military dimensions to Iran’s nuclear programme and actions required of Iran to resolve these.65 The Agency remains concerned about the possible existence in Iran of undisclosed nuclear-related activities involving military related organizations, including activities related to the development of a nuclear payload for a missile. Iran is required to cooperate fully with the Agency on all outstanding issues, particularly those which give rise to concerns about the possible military dimensions to Iran’s nuclear programme, including by providing access without delay to all sites, equipment, persons and documents requested by the Agency.

You mean the Iranian’s might be playing games? Huh.

The overall increase in Iran’s stockpile poses a major diplomatic and political challenge for President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, who flew back to the United States from Geneva on Monday for treatment of a broken leg he suffered in a bicycling accident, as they enter a 30-day push to try to complete an agreement by the end of June. In essence, the administration will have to convince Congress and America’s allies that Iran will shrink its stockpile by 96 percent in a matter of months after a deal is signed, even while it continues to produce new material and has demonstrated little success in reducing its current stockpile.

Since Obama lies about virtually everything else, why would Congress believe him? Why should we believe anything from the Iranians?

Shocking News: NC BCBS Asks For Higher Ocare Rates

Another day, another realization that Obama lied when he said rates would come down

(WRAL) Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina has asked state regulators for a 25.7 percent average rate increase on individual insurance plans purchased under the Affordable Care Act for 2016.

Blue Cross Vice President and Chief Actuary Patrick Getzen said more than 325,000 people statewide enrolled in the insurer’s plans offered on the HealthCare.gov marketplace for 2015. Although the demographics are similar to those who enrolled in 2014, he said, the current group of clients has more chronic health conditions, such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

Those conditions drove more consumption of costly medical services, such as hospital admissions, MRIs, CT scans, ultrasounds and specialty prescriptions, Getzen said. Enrollees also are visiting hospital emergency rooms more than expected – the health care law was designed to provide coverage to more people so they wouldn’t resort to an ER visit for routine care.

Great googly moogly, if only someone had brought up the potential for these issues to occur, maybe Democrats would have been a bit more careful in passing the law.

When Will The Cult Of Climastrology Admit They’re Wrong?

That’s what Patrick J. Michaels wants to know, though he aims his barbs at “climate scientists”

When Will Climate Scientists Say They Were Wrong?

Day after day, year after year, the hole that climate scientists have buried themselves in gets deeper and deeper. The longer that they wait to admit their overheated forecasts were wrong, the more they are going to harm all of science.

The story is told in a simple graph, the same one that University of Alabama’s John Christy presented to the House Committee on Natural Resources on May 15.

The picture shows the remarkable disconnect between predicted global warming and the real world.

It certainly does. But, with all due respect to Dr. Michaels (who has degrees that make him an expert, per Warmist talking points about “listening to Experts”), they will never listen, because this is about politics (and funding, of course. Plus prestige), not science. No matter what science, data, and facts you show to members of the Cult of Climastrology, they will always have an excuse. They will always blame “carbon pollution”. They cannot conceive of any other mechanism that could be causing the warming during the Modern Warm Period. They are quick to agree that the warming during previous Holocene warm periods was mostly/solely caused by nature, including that big nuclear furnace hanging in the sky. But, they’ll say that it is impossible for those same natural forces to be in play now.

Yet, as I so often write, they fail to live their lives like it is a crisis. It may be a tedious talking point, but it does matter. It would be extremely easy to make large changes within their own lives, yet most Warmists, especially the leaders in the CoC, not only refuse to do more than perhaps purchase some carbon credits, the equivalent of paying speeding tickets because you refuse to give up speeding, they often have over-sized “carbon footprints”. As Glenn Reynolds wrote “I’ll believe it’s a crisis when they act like it’s a crisis”. All their ideas boil down to far left Progressive (nice fascist) policy prescriptions. If you focus on how Warmists act and what they want to do, the true picture of this “movement” comes into focus.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D): Say, Let’s Use RICO Against Skeptics

Criminalizing thought, by a guy who uses vast amounts of fossil fuels and energy within his own life

(Washington Post) Fossil fuel companies and their allies are funding a massive and sophisticated campaign to mislead the American people about the environmental harm caused by carbon pollution.

Their activities are often compared to those of Big Tobacco denying the health dangers of smoking. Big Tobacco’s denial scheme was ultimately found by a federal judge to have amounted to a racketeering enterprise.

The Big Tobacco playbook looked something like this: (1) pay scientists to produce studies defending your product; (2) develop an intricate web of PR experts and front groups to spread doubt about the real science; (3) relentlessly attack your opponents.

Thankfully, the government had a playbook, too: the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, or RICO. In 1999, the Justice Department filed a civil RICO lawsuit against the major tobacco companies and their associated industry groups, alleging that the companies “engaged in and executed — and continue to engage in and execute — a massive 50-year scheme to defraud the public, including consumers of cigarettes, in violation of RICO.”

Some folks take exception when I refer to Progressives as “nice fascists” (the nice part refers to massive government “for your own good””): how’s that phrase sounding when you have a sitting US Senator wanting to prosecute anyone who fails to follow the Cult Of Climastrology using RICO? Might Whitehouse and his Warmists allies think that even a little blog like mine is an “ally” of fossil fuels companies?

The coordinated tactics of the climate denial network, Brulle’s report states, “span a wide range of activities, including political lobbying, contributions to political candidates, and a large number of communication and media efforts that aim at undermining climate science.” Compare that again to the findings in the tobacco case.

He seems very upset over our 1st Amendment Rights.

Walter Olsen at Overlawyered notes

Law professor Jonathan Adler, by the way, has already pointed out that Sen. Whitehouse’s op-ed “relies on a study that doesn’t show what he (it) claims.” And Sen. Whitehouse, along with Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Edward Markey (D-Mass.), has been investigating climate-dissent scholarship in a fishing-expedition investigation that drew apointed rebuke from then-Cato Institute President John Allison as an “obvious attempt to chill research into and funding of public policy projects you don’t like…. you abuse your authority when you attempt to intimidate people who don’t share your political beliefs.”

Whitehouse ends his free speech chilling op-ed thusly

To be clear: I don’t know whether the fossil fuel industry and its allies engaged in the same kind of racketeering activity as the tobacco industry. We don’t have enough information to make that conclusion. Perhaps it’s all smoke and no fire. But there’s an awful lot of smoke.

So, he actually has no clue. But, you can bet he wants to investigate, to ramp up the Climastrology witch-hunt.

New Paper States That The Oceans Did Not Eat All The Warming

As the Great Pause continues to lengthen, 18+ years and counting, members of the Cult of Climastrology have come up with all sorts of excuses, many of them very inventive. One of their big ones was that all the warming is suddenly hiding in the deep oceans. Why is it hiding? Why now, and not during the spike in warming from 1980-1996? What mechanism caused it to hide? Stop asking inconvenient questions, you darned dirty denier!!!!! It’s science!!!!! I bet you hate science and worship the Koch brothers!!!!!

(The Hockey Schtick) A new paper published in Ocean Science Discussions directly contradicts the claim that “90%” of the alleged “missing heat” from anthropogenic global warming has disappeared into the deep oceans below 2000 meters. This was, according to the authors, the favored excuse (out of more than 70 ‘excuses’ at this point) for the “pause” or “hiatus” of global warming over the past 18+ years.

Warming of the deep oceans, however, would cause thermal expansion of the deep oceans and add to sea level rise [called steric sea level rise]. The authors examined several datasets including satellite altimetry, ARGO floats, and the GRACE gravitometer satellites, and find that the thermal expansion of the deep oceans and contribution to sea level rise is “negligible,” and thus, there is no evidence that the alleged “missing heat” “trapped” by greenhouse gases has somehow sunken to the deep oceans. In addition, the “missing heat” is also nowhere to be found in the upper oceans, nor the atmosphere (because in reality it was lost to space as increased outgoing IR radiation over the past 62 years).

The authors find the sea level budget of total sea level rise is “closed” with “negligible” contribution from the deep ocean, thus no warming or thermal expansion from the “missing heat” in the deep ocean can be accounted for:

The full paper can be found here, for those who want to read the science.

Of course, the information contained in the paper will be of no consequence to Warmists (and, note, as the authors point out, much more research needs to be done), as “climate change” is a belief system, with its roots in far left politics, not a science system. To the members of the CoC, nothing will change their belief that all changes in the climate and weather during the Modern Warm Period are caused mostly/solely by Mankind. If the global climate switched to a typical Holocene cool period, or even a new glacial age, CoC members would still blame this on Mankind and demand some sort of tax, along with more rules, regulations, and laws that restrict freedom.

Democrat World: Baltimore Has Highest Monthly Murder Total Since 1971

Congratulations, Democrats who control Baltimore lock, stock, and barrel. Congratulations, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who wanted to give thugs space to destroy. Congratulations, prosecutor Marilyn Mosby, who took the side of the thugs

(Baltimore Sun) With three men killed in eastside shootings on Sunday, Baltimore recorded its deadliest month in more than 40 years.

The 43 killings in May surpassed the 42 homicides the city saw in August 1990, and left Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake defending police and her administration. (snip)

Baltimore has recorded more homicides in a single month: There were 44 in December 1971 and 45 in August 1972.

But in that era, the city had approximately 908,000 residents — nearly 300,000 more than today.

Peter Moskos, a former Baltimore police officer who is an assistant professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, called May the city’s deadliest month ever based on the per-capita homicide rate.

Baltimore’s homicide rate per 100,000 population in May was 6.1 — topping the rates in the early 1970s, Moskos wrote Friday on his “Cop in the Hood” blog.

In that Cop In the Hood blog post, Moskos notes that based on population density, May has the highest murder total since records started being kept in 1970.

This is your city, Democrats. This is what you made. This is your responsibility. Did you know that 27 pharmacies were looted during the April riots? It wasn’t just that CVS that appeared on the news and Twitter. The DEA is investigating the theft of all the narcotics.

The typical homicide rate per 1,000 per year is 0.37 in Baltimore. The national average is 0.04. There have been 116 homicides in Baltimore this year. The yearly average is 233, so Baltimore is well on its way to exceeding that shameful number. Right now Baltimore is safer than just 3% of American cities. That will surely rise.

This doesn’t even encompass any potential spike in other violent crimes (assault, rape, and robbery). Nor do we have numbers on property crimes, which have been running at double the U.S. national median.

It should also be noted that murders and shootings are also up in many other heavily Democratic cities, cities that have utterly failed the Black residents, who are committing high levels of Black In Origin crimes. Democrats can’t blame Republicans (though we know they will try), as Democrats have been running these cities for 40+ years, instituting their policies.

Fearmongering: This Is The Last Generation Of Kids To Live Longer Than Their Parents Due To “Climate Change”

The latest bat guano insane prognostication from the Cult Of Climastrology

Insights into climate change’s impact on children released

IF we don’t tackle climate change as a matter of urgency, this will be the last generation of children to live longer than their parents, warns leading Australian child health researcher, paediatrician and former Australian of the Year Professor Fiona Stanley.

This goes well above and beyond the typical use of a facepalm, as i would usually include. It’s pure and utter mularky, and scaremongering for political purposes. It’s a shameless use of children for the CoC’s hardcore leftist propaganda. I’d say they should feel utterly ashamed of themselves, but, they feel none ever.

One would also think that if Warmists were so concerned they’d act like it’s a crisis and change their own behavior.
