Warmists Now Claim Persian Gulf Might Get Cyclones

The crystal ball is working overtime

(Yahoo News) Climate change is bringing small risks that tropical cyclones will form in the Persian Gulf for the first time, in a threat to cities such as Dubai or Doha which are unprepared for big storm surges, a U.S. study said on Monday.

Tampa in Florida and Cairns in Australia, two places where cyclones already happen, would be increasingly vulnerable to extreme storms this century, according to the report, based on thousands of computer models.

The shallow and warm waters of the Persian Gulf, where cyclones have never been recorded, might generate the storms in future as a side-effect of global warming, according to the study in the journal Nature Climate Change.

We’re Totally Locked In To A 3 Foot Sea Rise Or Something

Hyperventibloviation over at CNN from 1 expert

Expert: We’re ‘locked-in’ to 3 feet sea level rise

It was less than two years ago that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released its all-encompassing assessment on the current state of climate change research and made projections for the future climate of our planet.

According to the latest from NASA, however, the projections the panel made for a rise in global sea levels of 1 to 3 feet may already be outdated.

According to Steven Nerem of the University of Colorado, we are “locked into at least 3 feet of sea level rise, and probably more.”

Nerem said experts now think a rise in sea levels toward “the higher end of that range is more likely, and the question remains how that range might have to shift upwards.” (snip)

There are three main causes for rising sea levels: The expansion of warmer ocean water, melting mountain glaciers, and ice loss from the massive Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets.

Of course, CNN eludes to this all being caused by Mankind’s greenhouse gas output, despite this having all happened before. Despite the 20th Century seeing just 7 inches of sea rise, when it should have seen at least double that to be a very warm Holocene warm period. Oh, and

(No Tricks Zone)  It appears the NOAA also agrees that sea level rise is not happening any where near as fast as many among us would like to think it is. At its site here, it writes the following n(my emphasis):

The graphs compare the 95% confidence intervals of relative mean sea level trends for CO-OPS and global stations. Trends with the narrowest confidence intervals are based on the longest data sets. Trends with the widest confidence intervals are based on only 30-40 years of data. The graphs can provide an overarching indication of the differing rates of regional vertical land motion, given that the absolute global sea level rise is believed to be 1.7-1.8 millimeters/year. Note that they are relative sea level trends, and are not corrected for local land movement. The calculated trends for all CO-OPS stations are available as a table in millimeters/year and in feet/century. A complete table of non-CO-OPS station trends are available as a table in millimeters/year and in feet/century.”

Hurry up and read it before this gets taken down! To be on the safe side I’ve cut out the location of interest:

Even if sea rise was high, it still wouldn’t prove mostly/solely anthropogenic causation. Just what’s been going on throughout the Holocene, not too mention the rest of Earth’s history. If we do the math, it gives us 151 millimeters, using the 1.8 figure, by 2100. That equals……..just under 6 inches over the next 84 years. So, pretty much what we saw during the 20th century, and exactly average for the last 7,000 years.

Special Ringmaster Marilyn Mosby Totally Knows How To Reduce Baltimore’s Massive Murder Rate

She does!

(Baltimore Sun) Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby on Sunday addressed the city’s historic spike in homicides in an interview on WBAL-TV.

In July, 45 people were killed — the highest number in modern history. The city is on pace for more than 300 killings this year.

Mosby said the key to driving down the murder rate is for prosecutors and police to re-establish trust with the community.

She noted her prosecutors have recently sent several killers behind bars for life, and are partnering with city police on a new “War Room” initiative — in which city and federal agencies work in close collaboration.

Oh, you thought she was actually going to go out to stop crime, instituting strong policing measures, perhaps reaching out to the community and telling them to stop being so criminal. Nope. Arresting them afterwards and sending them to jail has nothing to do with stopping the crimes in the first place.

Perhaps Mosby could have a talk with Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake about rescinding her “giving space to those who wish to destroy” notion.

“This is the home of witness intimidation, where that ‘Stop Snitching’ mentality began,” Mosby said. “We have to build the trust of the community back up. … We’re absolutely on top of it.”

That mentality has nothing to do with the police and prosecutors: it has everything to do with the criminality of the citizens. This soft approach is not working, as witnessed during July. Perhaps there should be some concern that almost every single person murdered in Baltimore is Black, and the majority of the known killers are Black.

August hasn’t exactly been a good month either. And another person, Black, was murdered early Sunday. This is not the fault of the police and prosecutors, nor is community outreach going to stop anything.

NY Post Recommends Senate “Go Nuclear” On Obama’s Iran Deal

Why would the NY Post Editorial Board recommend this?

The obscene drive to avoid any Senate vote on the Iran deal

Whether to approve the disastrous nuclear deal with Iran is the most important question to face Congress in years — yet the president wants to stop the Senate from even debating it.

He’s pushing Democrats to use the filibuster rule to stop the question from making it to the Senate floor — and Minority Leader Harry Reid’s rallying the votes to do it.

Of course, President Obama never wanted Congress to have a say here. But Congress voted itself an oversight role anyway — by 98-1 in the Senate.

Now Reid’s rounding up Democrats to derail the process they helped set up to “ensure the American people — through their elected representatives — a voice on any deal with Iran.”

As noted in the editorial, solid majorities in the House and Senate, along with the American public, are against this deal. Poll after poll after poll show that the American people do not want it. Democrats are the majority who want the deal, which is bad for America, bad for Israel, bad for the Middle East, gives Iran protection and money, doesn’t stop their ballistic missile program, and only kicks Iran’s nuclear weapons aspirations down the road. Provided they do not cheat. They’ve already stated that they will cheat. Hence, Obama and Democrats do not want to be on record as voting for the deal. Obama does not want to have to veto any measure.

Nor do they want any visible debate on the Senate floor.

This is an obscenity. The Senate calls itself “the world’s greatest deliberative body.” And the Constitution requires Senate consent for the approval of treaties.

Obama’s already done an end-run around the treaty rules. Will Senate Democrats enable even worse — a total mockery of Congress’ role?

It’s time for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to go nuclear: To do just what Reid threatened when he ran the Senate, and change the rules for the filibuster.

Harry Reid invoked the nuclear option for most Obama nominees in 2013: McConnell can use it for this one case. Force Democrats to debate the Iran Deal, force them to vote, force Obama to veto it.

Of course, Leftist supports of Iran, er, Obama, will screech “what’s your better deal?” Which is really besides the point, meant to deflect attention from this terrible deal in the first place. If a deal is bad, you walk away. If it fails to achieve the initial goals in any manner (eliminating Iran’s nuclear weapons program, “anytime, anywhere” inspections, etc), you walk away. If a Republican had negotiated this deal, Democrats would be dead set against it, both because they would be against the Republican and because they would acknowledge that it is a historically bad deal.

Failing To Act On Hotcoldwetdry Is A Complete Moral Failure Or Something

Let’s start off with noting that when people fail to live by the rules they want Everyone Else to live be, that’s a moral failure. An inexcusable one

Failing to act on climate change is an inexcusable moral failure

The responses of coal country business leaders and politicians to the Clean Power Plan recently announced by President Barack Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency demonstrate that there are no limits to their willingness to pursue coal industry profits without regard for the harmful consequences of their decisions and actions.

The coal industry has a long history of such irresponsible behavior. That’s why West Virginia has biologically degraded streams from perpetual acid mine drainage, fish that can’t be eaten because of too much mercury in their flesh, unstable toxic sludge impoundments looming over communities, and ecologically vital headwater streams buried under massive piles of rubble. It’s also why coal miners experience agonizing deaths from black lung disease, coalfield residents suffer elevated risks of contracting numerous chronic or lethal diseases, and miners are stripped of their hard-won pensions and health benefits.

Now, see, those are actual real world issues. Those are reasons why I am against coal, and want to see it’s usage replaced. I’ve noted time and time again that the Cult of Climastrology hijacks these real world issues and puts them under the banner of ‘climate change’.

Yet in opposing the Clean Power Plan, these business leaders and politicians are rising to unprecedented levels of cynicism and recklessness. While they have long shown a willingness to turn regions of the world into virtual sacrifice zones, their new message is that they don’t mind doing the same thing to the entire planet. The coal industry is a primary contributor to the increase in greenhouse gases that is destabilizing our global climate and global ecosystems. We are already experiencing impacts from this destabilization, such as more violent and extreme storms, floods, wildfires and droughts. If we continue on our present course, the best evidence indicates that the impacts from climate change will shift from severe to catastrophic. So in opposing the Clean Power Plan, the message from these business leaders and politicians is that they don’t mind inflicting significant harm on every single person on the planet to protect industry profits. Not only that, but they don’t care if continuing to burn fossil fuels for energy degrades the planet for every human that will live on Earth in the future and places the very survival of future generations at risk.

See? There we go. Idiots. When will Jim Waggy at the Charleston Gazette-Mail give up his own big carbon footprint?

DNC Writes Slobbering Letter To Obama, Supporting His Iran Deal

They had to write a letter of support because Debbie Wasserman-Schultz blocked a formal resolution

(Washington Post) Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz prevented consideration of a resolution at the party’s summer meeting here that praised President Obama and offered backing for the nuclear agreement with Iran, according to knowledgeable Democrats.

The resolution was drafted with the intention of putting the national committee on record in support of the agreement as Congress prepares to take up the issue when members return from their August recess.

As a fallback, James Zogby, the co-chair of the Resolutions Committee, led a move to prepare a letter of support for the president and the Iran agreement that eventually gained signatures from a sizable majority of the members of the national committee. Zogby said Saturday that, in the end, this produced a satisfactory outcome.

Blocking the resolution has made Democrats Very Mad at DWS, who did not say why she blocked it. There’s some thought that this was due to DWS representing a heavily Jewish district. Hey, maybe DWS did something smart, and realized that it is a Bad Idea for Dems to formally approve of the deal, which has almost no Republican support, and would leave Dems on the hook for the sure to follow bad outcomes.

Here’s the letter, via the Huffington Post, signed by over 160 Democratic delegates and members of the DNC

A Special Letter to the President from members of the Democratic National Committee.

We strongly support the courageous leadership you have demonstrated in choosing diplomacy and negotiations over conflict. We believe that the completion of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action negotiated between P5+1 (the Permanent Members of the United Nations Security Council and Germany) and Iran to place strict limits on Iran’s nuclear program is an important victory for diplomacy. We recognize that there are some who in good faith have expressed reservations with elements of the JCPOA but we believe that you and key members of your Administration have effectively and respectfully responded to these concerns. We, therefore, join you in supporting the JCPOA as the best way forward to secure our nation, our allies, and world peace.

Signed

A Pack Of Naive Boobs

Now, this is where my interest was peaked, in that the letter notes that the deal “places strict limits on Iran’s nuclear program”. Limits. Not stops it. Not demolishes it. Not “removes all possibility that Iran will get nuclear weapons through its own programs”. Just “strict limits”. And it doesn’t even acknowledge that those strict limits will only last 8-10 years, with them going away in 15.

Nor does it acknowledge all the money Iran will gain to fund its weapons and terrorism programs. Nor all the loopholes. Nor that the “snap inspections” are anything but. That Iran is going to inspect its own military nuclear facility. That US inspectors may be blocked by Iran. That the deal will make the Middle East even more un-safe. That Iran will continue to build intercontinental ballistic missiles. And that Iran has already stated that it will ignore certain parts of the deal. That sanctions will never, ever snap-back in reality. And so many other issues.

Democrats will own this failure.

Obama Expects US-ISRAEL Relations To Get Better Because Of Th3 Iran Deal

Well, on one hand, he’s right: if a Republican wins, they will toast the deal and make our relations better, which won’t be that hard after Obama has destroyed that relationship

(AP) President Barack Obama on Friday compared tensions between the U.S. and Israel over the Iranian nuclear deal to a family feud and said he expects quick improvements in ties between the longtime allies once the accord is implemented.

“Like all families, sometimes there are going to be disagreements,” Obama said in a webcast with Jewish Americans. “And sometimes people get angrier about disagreements in families than with folks that aren’t family.”

Yeah, it’s just like that. If one family member is making a deal with an outside party that wants to kill the other family member.

The president encouraged skeptics of the agreement to “overcome the emotions” that have infused the debate and evaluate the accord based on facts.

“I would suggest that in terms of the tone of this debate everybody keep in mind that we’re all pro-Israel,” he said. “We have to make sure that we don’t impugn people’s motives.”

This is the same guy who’s said it’s either this agreement or war, deeming those same skeptics warmongers. He’s claimed that those who are against this deal are making “common cause” with the Iranian regime. Pot. Kettle.

Oops, that pot kettle thing is probably raaaaacist.
