Americans Much More Concerned About Gun Control Than Mass Shootings

As usual, leftist gun grabbers are running the rhetorical gamut from pushing “common sense gun control” (heavy restrictions on legal ownership of firearms) to wanting to require anyone who wants to buy a gun to have to suffer being shot themselves (I wonder if this applies to Hillary Clinton’s security detail?) to pushing for the same measures implemented by nations such as Australia and the U.K. Meaning, confiscation of guns, almost no ownership allowed. Reality tends to smack the gun grabbers in the face when citizens are asked certain pointed questions, though

(Breitbart) On October 13, Chapman University released its Survey of American Fears and revealed that more than twice as many Americans fear gun control than fear “mass shootings.”

While those on the left may scratch their heads to wonder how this could be, the facts are that gun control leads to gun-free zones, which, in turn, appear to be very popular with mass shooters.

According to Chapman University, 16.4 percent of Americans hold “mass shootings” as one of their greatest fears, while more than twice that many Americans, 36.5 percent, are “afraid” or “very afraid” of  gun control.

Read that again: twice as many are more afraid of gun control than mass shootings. Michael Bloomberg’s gun grabby Everytown reports that there have been 150 school shootings in the U.S. since 2013 (many of said “shootings” were gun discharges with no one injured or killed). What kind of zones are schools?

In fact, the poll shows that Americans fear many issues tied to government overreach far more than they fear mass shootings. For example, whereas 16.4 percent of Americans fear mass shootings, 58 percent fear government corruption, and 35.7 percent fear Obamacare. Moreover, 29.7 percent of Americans fear illegal immigration more than they fear mass shootings.

According to the study, more people are worried about volcanoes, robots, and artificial intelligence than mass shootings. On the bright side, their concern over mass shootings is double that of people worried about zombies and ghosts. So, they can hang their hats on that.

Could Paris Climate Meeting Be The Only Thing That Can Stop Extinction?

We are now rushing headlong into a sixth mass extinction, but this time the culprit is man, Elizabeth Kolbert writes in her best-selling book, The Sixth Extinction; An Unnatural History, which won a Pulitzer Prize last April.

Kolbert travelled the world, from the Americas to the Great Barrier Reef to Europe, to document vanishing frogs, bats, rhinoceroses, coral.

Wait, she took lots of fossil fueled travel? For shame!

“So far,” Kolbert said, “there is not a clearly documented case of a species driven to extinction by climate change.” But global warming is pushing temperatures to extremes not seen for hundreds of millions of years. Life forms may not be able to adapt. “All the scientific literature predicts that climate change will become a major driver of extinction over this century.”

So, all this hysteria is about future doom, a 6th mass extinction, with absolutely zero proof? Awesome.

Anyhow, the rest of the article is about the vast need for more Government and more taxation and more redistribution. Silly me to think this is all politics and not science.

Bummer: “Knowledge regarding climate change in Pakistan appalling”

Taking 1st World Problems and exporting them to 3rd world sh*tholes developing countries. This is from the Express Tribune, a part of the International NY Times

LAHORE: Experts, academics, government officials and civil society activists discussed Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change on the second day of Pakistan sey Paris. The two major areas of concern discussed were the impact of climate change on the agriculture sector and water scarcity.

“Earlier, the optimal season for growing wheat used to be October. Now it has crossed mid-November,” University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Iqrar Ahmed Khan observed while discussing the impact of changing weather patterns. Khan said two major changes had impacted crops’ growth cycle.  He said these were a rise in temperature and the erratic behaviour of precipitation.

Obviously, before Mankind started using fossil fuels and air conditioning, the climate was completely and utterly stable. Here’s the money quote

“The level of existing knowledge about climate change in Pakistan is appalling,” United Nations Development Programme Country Director Marc-Andre Franche said. Franche said while the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in the Northern Areas was a great initiative, it would also increase truck movement that would lead to environmental degradation. He stressed the need to maintain a balance between development and the environment saying, “When it comes to developmental choices, Pakistan is still making choices of the ’50s and ’60s while the world happens to be in 2015,” Franche said.

Climate change is one of the last things Pakistan needs to be worrying about, what with all the issues such as the 26th highest infant mortality rate, high infant underweight rate, high poverty rate, high infectious disease rate, low education rate, high use of drugs, having drugs being trafficked through the country, low education rate for girls, treating women like chattel, human trafficking, and many others. Plus that whole Islamic terrorism thing.

He stressed the need to promote climate literacy saying it was not restricted to having more experts on the issue but also about enlightening government officials across the board. He said it was important to have officials who could think green when making decisions irrespective of their area of expertise.

Right. That’s what Pakistani governmental officials really need to worry about.

Democrats Reduced To Making Fun Of Ted Cruz As A Canadian. Eh

Of course, Cruz was actually born in Calgary, and, one has to wonder if this is appropriate behavior from the Press Secretary of the President of the United States of America. There’s no reason to get Offended, though, because people on the political right can take a joke. And Senator Cruz’s office decided not to respond to this silliness, nor did Senator Cruz respond himself.

Democrats rarely do anything in jest. They’ve trotted out Ted Cruz Birtherism many, many times, and, let’s face it, Liberals are very humorless people, who think jokes about <a href=”http://www.climatedepot.com/2014/02/23/new-york-times-publishes-cartoon-about-killing-deniers-with-icicles/” target=”_blank”>stabbing Skeptics with icicles</a> and <a href=”http://michellemalkin.com/category/unhinged/assassination-chic/” target=”_blank”>assassination chic</a> are the height of funny. So, yeah, don’t think this is totally in jest.

And, imagine had high ranking Republicans said something similar about a Democrat. Imagine how Offended they would be, and the calls for resignation.

Hillary’s Super Excited For Australian Type Gun Buyback

Democrats have become super enthused by the thought of mimicking Australia when it comes to gun control. Leftists running the gamut from Mr. Obama to pundits to media outlets have discussed implementing what Australia (and Great Britain) did on gun control. Hillary joins the crowd, with the transcript of her statement at a New Hampshire town hall provided by the Washington Free Beacon), which also has the video

VOTER: Back to handguns. Recently, Australia managed to get away, or take away tens of thousands, millions of handguns. In one year, they were all gone. Can we do that? If we can’t, why can’t we?

HILLARY CLINTON: Australia is a good example, Canada is a good example, the U.K. is a good example. Why? Each of them have had mass killings. Australia had a huge mass killing about 20-25 years ago, Canada did as well, so did the U.K. In reaction, they passed much stricter gun laws.

In the Australian example, as I recall, that was a buyback program. The Australian government, as part of trying to clamp down on the availability of automatic weapons, offered a good price for buying hundreds of thousands of guns. Then, they basically clamped down, going forward, in terms of having more of a background check approach, more of a permitting approach, but they believe, and I think the evidence supports them, that by offering to buyback those guns, they were able to curtail the supply and set a different standard for gun purchases in the future.

Communities have done that in our country, several communities have done gun buyback programs. I think it would be worth considering doing it on the national level, if that could be arranged. After the terrible 2008 financial crisis, one of the programs that President Obama was able to get in place was Cash for Clunkers. You remember that? It was partially a way to get people to buy new cars because we wanted more economic activity, and to get old models that were polluting too much, off the roads. So I think that’s worth considering. I do not know enough detail to tell you how we would do it, or how would it work, but certainly your example is worth looking at. [Applause]

Australia’s buyback program was utterly coercive, and was actually a confiscation program, with cash given to owners to make it slightly more legal. It was mandatory. Democrats have moved so far left that they have no problem talking about gun confiscation, which would affect the law abiding gun owners, not the criminals who own and use them illegally.

Gun buybacks generally occur in Democratic Party run cities, and included criminals turning in their illegally owned/purchased/stolen guns for government money. Then they get another one. But, it’s never mandatory like in Australia.

I wasn’t aware of Australia allowing automatic weapons for private ownership ever, but, hey, this is the kind of scary talk Democrats like to throw out. As Allahpundit notes

So sanctified is the right to choose these days among progressives that not only can’t you find a top Democrat who’s pro-life, you can’t find a top Democrat who’d support any limits whatsoever on abortion. We’re headed there on guns if we’re not there already. Total confiscation is the obvious goal and increasingly, thanks to their demographics, they’ll be willing to say so. No limits. You simply can’t go too far left on this.

Choice only applies to aborting a baby. I wonder if Democrats, especially Hillary, who will certainly be the Democrat general election nominee, even if she is indicted for her email issues, realizes that Republicans will use these type of comments against them?

Democrat Warmist Sees Real Data With Open Mind And….

Can you guess what happened next?

(Jo Nova) David Siegel has written six books, four of which were international bestsellers. He’s a Democrat voter, and he wants to preserve the environment. He wants that so badly he actually cares about the data, the graphs, and the arguments.  (He cares about the outcome, not just about whether he looks like an environmentalist.) When challenged to find evidence, he looked, and was surprised, then he looked more and was shocked. “As I learned more, I changed my mind. I now think there probably is no climate crisis and that the focus on CO2 takes funding and attention from critical environmental problems.”Which is a similar path to mine eight years ago. I was once a Green who believed in man-made global warming. (And I was a vegetarian).

Having studied both sides, he’s written up a very sharp page, condensing what he discovered, and with a personal narrative, plus great graphs and provocative questions. Siegel wants skeptics to reach a newer crowd, to push the boundaries by sending them links to his page. (Hey, it’s a good marketing strategy for his site right? True, but he does make a real point.) He’s written one page hoping to win over people who are more liberal minded, and it just might open some eyes. It’s very readable.

I did a similar thing. As a former Green, my instinct was to compress the whole debate to four points and put it in The Skeptics Handbook. (My first post). The second Skeptics Handbook expanded into issues that show up on the left leaning radar — more about people, intimidation, vested interests, and money.

There’s a whole bunch of links in the excerpt, I’ll let you check them at Jo Nova’s sute, as well as recommend reading the entire thing. I know most Warmists won’t, as they are too invested in their cultish political agenda.

I must say, this is similar to what happened with me. I was exposed to other data and facts, for one thing. I noticed that those who pushed this the hardest were total hypocrites. And, this all involves something that makes me angry: Warmists undercutting real environmentalism with their insanity, making real environmental issues secondary, very secondary, to Hotcoldwetdry.

Uh Oh: American’s Denial Of Climate Change Hits Record Low. Or Something

I guess our little jig of being skeptical of a cult-like political movement masquerading as science is up!

Americans’ Denial of Climate Change Hits Record Low, Survey Finds

Only 16% of Americans believe there is not enough evidence to prove global climate change is real, the lowest percentage since asurvey began asking the question in 2008.

The study, which reports the result of a survey of more than 900 Americans from the National Surveys on Energy and Environment, shows that 70% of U.S. residents believe evidence supporting global warming. That’s a 7 percentage point increase over the spring of 2015 and a 10 percentage point increase from last fall.

“This is not a trivial jump,” said report author Barry Rabe, a professor at the University of Michigan. “When you see a shift like this in a relatively short period of time, that’s significant.”

Well, dagnabit, I guess we’ll all have to be good little Warmists now. Or, something?

The problem here is the question asked: “From what you’ve read and heard, is there solid evidence that the average temperature on earth has been getting warmer over the past four decades?“

In fact, the answer would be “yes, there is.” There was a big spike in temps from around 1978 through 1996, which then went into a pause period, which, depending on the measuring system used, still shows a very tiny increase in global temperatures. What this doesn’t prove is anthropogenic causation. You don’t have to believe in man-caused global warming/climate change to say that the temps have gone up. They have. Just like in previous warm periods.

This is how they play the game, avoiding questions that differentiate between mostly/solely caused by Mankind and mostly/solely caused by Nature. Time even notes (kudos to Justin Worland for even writing this)

It’s unclear whether public belief in climate change will create a stronger mandate for action on public policy. For one, the results of survey don’t indicate whether respondents believe climate change is manmade, a key sticking point for those who oppose more regulation. More broadly, views on climate change can change shift quickly, Rabe said.
