In 2009, Trump Was Big Believer In “Climate Action”

This comes via Eric Worrall at Watts Up With That?

(Grist)  As negotiators headed to Copenhagen in December 2009 to forge a global climate pact, concerned U.S. business leaders and liberal luminaries took out a full-page ad in the New York Times calling for aggressive climate action. In an open letter to President Obama and the U.S. Congress, they declared: “If we fail to act now, it is scientifically irrefutable that there will be catastrophic and irreversible consequences for humanity and our planet.”

One of the signatories of that letter: Donald Trump.

Also signed by Trump’s three adult children, the letter called for passage of U.S. climate legislation, investment in the clean energy economy, and leadership to inspire the rest of the world to join the fight against climate change.

“We support your effort to ensure meaningful and effective measures to control climate change, an immediate challenge facing the United States and the world today,” the letter tells the president and Congress. “Please allow us, the United States of America, to serve in modeling the change necessary to protect humanity and our planet.”

You can see the ad over at Grist. Let’s note that it starts out with

“Additionally, we urge you, our government, to strengthen and pass United States legislation, and lead the world by example. We support your effort to ensure meaningful and effective measures to control climate change, an immediate challenge facing the United States and the world today.”

That is primarily directed at Obama, who was heading to Copenhagen. So, why the change in what Trump says he believes? Worrall attempts to link it to Climategate, and ends noting

Was it Climategate which changed Donald Trump’s mind? We won’t know unless Trump chooses to speak on this issue. I suspect though if you have a lot of money, and scam artists are always circling, you have to develop a pretty well tuned BS meter. There is a lot in the Climategate scandal, to shake the confidence of even the most committed climate activist.

Trump has never explained why he is a skeptic, beyond stating that it is a scam foisted by the Chinese, which is ridiculous. And, I’m not sure what Worrall thinks of Trump, whether he is a supporter or not, but, sorry, Eric, it is a weak defense of Trump. Grist further notes

Other than that, Trump has been fairly consistent in his views on climate change — or consistent for Trump. Two months after signing the open letter, he told members of the Trump National Golf Club that Al Gore should be stripped of his Nobel Prize because that winter had been cold. “Gore wants us to clean up our factories and plants in order to protect us from global warming, when China and other countries couldn’t care less,” he said. “It would make us totally noncompetitive in the manufacturing world, and China, Japan and India are laughing at America’s stupidity.”

But, what does he really believe? Was there some revelation that changed his mind? I myself was a believer, as I’ve noted many times. I’ve also noted recently that Trump may be backsliding on his supposed climate skepticism. Quite frankly, I do not care if one is a believer or a Skeptic: I care what a government official plans to do about it, and if those actions will cause harm to myself and other citizens.

Man Who Took Fossil Fueled Trip To Manhattan Warns It Will Soon Be Underwater From ‘Climate Change’

What does it take to get Mr. Obama anywhere? Let’s start with a fossil fueled (FF) helicopter flight to Andrews AFB. Then the FF flight itself, which typically includes a FF backup plane and several FF fighter jets. Then a big FF convoy of vehicles which get low MPG. Then reverse for the trip back to D.C.

(Weekly Standard) President Obama warned of a submerged Manhattan without efforts to combat climate change during a fundraiser in New York City Wednesday night.

“[T]he majority of people believe in things like science — and scientists,” an official transcript of his remarks reads. “And so when scientists tell us that the planet is getting warmer and we need to do something about it, the majority of people think that’s a good idea, let’s do something about that, because we don’t want Manhattan to be underwater.”

Good news! It’ll take a long, long time for Manhattan to be underwater. By the time it becomes a danger, the earth will have flipped to a typical Holocene cool period

You can see it bigger, and other NY sea level data, here. 0.93 feet in 100 years is just barely above average for the last 7-8,000 years, and still well under the expected sea rise during a Holocene warm period. Fortunately, we have Mr. Obama, putting out well above the average carbon pollution to tell Other People that they need to be forced to Do Something by government. While at a fancy schmansy fundraiser.

Senator Fauxcahontas “Eviscerates” Donald Trump Or Something

Liberals are wetting their pants with a thrill running up their leg over the comments Senator Elizabeth “Fake Indian” Warren lobbed towards Donald Trump

Elizabeth Warren eviscerates Trump: ‘A loud … thin-skinned fraud’

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren unloaded on Donald Trump on Thursday, calling the presumptive Republican presidential nominee a “loud, nasty, thin-skinned fraud” and a “racist bully” during a fiery speech in Washington.

Warren’s barbs centered on Trump’s racially charged attacks on US District Court Judge Gonzalo Curiel, who is presiding over a civil lawsuit involving Trump’s defunct real-estate school, Trump University.

One would think people who write for a living would understand that Mexican is not a race. Trump’s comments were bigoted, if you want to go there, but, most just Donald being an unthinking jerk initially, then being a thinking jerk as he continued.

“Judge Curiel is one of countless American patriots who has spent decades quietly serving his country,” said Warren, speaking at a convention of the American Constitution Society. “Donald Trump is a loud, nasty, thin-skinned fraud who has never risked anything for anyone and serves nobody but himself.”

“That is just one of the many reasons why he will never be president of the United States,” she added.

And that supposedly “eviscerates” Trump. Leftists love their headlines like eviscerate, destroys, rips, etc. Words along those lines.

“Donald, you should be ashamed of yourself,” Warren said. “Ashamed for using the megaphone of a presidential campaign for attacking a judge’s character and integrity simply because you think you have a God-given right to steal people’s money and get away with it.”

Says the woman who bought foreclosed homes and flipped them to make a quick profit on people’s misery. But, she “eviscerates” Trump!!!!!1!!!!! I’m waiting for the headline about Trump eviscerating Hillary. Instead, it was just about a “campaign tweet fight” between Hillary and Trump

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are engaged in their first full-blown Twitter war.

Trump started it, mocking President Barack Obama’s endorsement of the presumptive Democratic nominee on Thursday.

“Obama just endorsed Crooked Hillary. He wants four more years of Obama_but nobody else does!” Trump tweeted.

Hillary replied with

And Donald?

Donald may have a bit of a mean streak, but, he’s not being investigated by the FBI for criminal violations of federal law.

Warmists Worried About ‘Climate Change’ Turning Up Heat On Koalas

Another day, another silly computer model study which aimed to be very concerned, and came out as very concerned

Climate change likely to turn up heat on koalas

A changing climate means that by 2070 koalas may no longer call large parts of inland Australia home, researchers have found.

Using a detailed ecological model, the University of Melbourne study shows hotter temperatures and altered rainfall patterns will make it much more difficult for koalas to get the water they need – making inland populations vulnerable to heat-stress.

The researchers mapped potential koala habitats in 2070 by using information about koala behaviour, physiology, body size, and fur to predict how much energy and water koalas need to survive under the climate at a particular location. They found that the climatically suitable area dramatically reduced by 2070, particularly in Queensland. The koala’s range across Australia was limited by water requirements for keeping cool, with the timing of rainfall and heat waves being crucial in limiting the koala in the warmer parts of its range.

Got that? They were able to get their crystal balls, er, computer models to tell them exactly what they wanted: doom for koalas! Because they know exactly what the weather will be 50+ years from now. They wouldn’t be able to tell you what it will be specifically 20 days from now, but 50 years? Easy peasy!

Dr Brendan Wintle, Deputy Director of the National Environmental Science Programme’s Threatened Species Recovery Hub, and a co-author of the study, says describing where koalas and other threatened species find refuge from changing climate and other threats such as cats and foxes allows efficient focus of conservation efforts and limited conservation funding.

And this is one of the (many) things that bugs me about the Cult of Climastrology. There are real environmental issues going on, yet these cultish fools focus on ‘climate change’ rather than those issues, often placing those real issues much lower. Koala populations suffer from chlamydia and habitat loss. Habitat loss plays a huge part, which brings them into contact with cars and dogs. Feral animals. Bushfires, which can be anthropogenic, but, mostly because of idiots playing with fire. Dieback, where cutting back in forests creates separate pockets, which can die off. Feral animals brought by humans to Australia. Real issues. Not tiny climatic swings as have been going on for longer than humanity.

The NY Times Is Very Concerned That Democrats Won’t Renounce Hillary Clinton

You remember Hillary Clinton, right? She is now the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. The one who lied about the reason 4 Americans were killed in Benghazi, and who helped create the poor security situation for our people in Benghazi. She helped create an Islamist state in Libya. She blew off the Arab Spring, and, by her own words, helped create the Iran deal which simply kicks the can for Iran’s nuclear weapons ambitions down the road 8-10 years. She exposed America’s national security secrets to foreign governments, and anyone with basic hacking skills, by using an illegal and unallowed server. She used her position as Secretary of State to enrich her foundation and hook up cronies.

But, no, the NY Times is not concerned about her

Why Republicans Won’t Renounce Trump

When Donald Trump attacked a federal judge whose parents were born in Mexico, Hispanic Americans were outraged. Other minority groups saw a pattern of bigotry. Democrats had a hard time concealing their glee. Republican leaders pretended they disapproved.

Well, to be fair, they did disapprove in a way — not because Trump believes the things he says, but because he says them so directly.

Far too many Republicans share this kind of racism and have for a long time. Trump has just dispensed with dog whistles and revels in his bigotry instead. But this is the party the Republicans have been deliberately and assiduously building for many decades, the party of division and intolerance. George H.W. Bush’s racist tactics in 1988 against Michael Dukakis — the Willie Horton ad in particular — seem almost genteel by comparison.

And boom, we have a Willie Horton mention! Every presidential election cycle seems to require some Leftist boob to bring it up, forgetting that it was Al Gore who brought it up first. Oh, and that Willie Horton was a loathsome criminal who raped, tortured, and murdered a man and a woman after he was let out under Dukakis’ weekend furlough program. He was in jail initially (along with 2 others) for robbing 17 year old Joseph Fournier, stabbing him 19 times, stuffing his body in a trash can, and letting him bleed to death.

Once Horton was recaptured in Maryland after raping and killing and stuff, post weekend furlough which he never returned from, the Maryland judge refused to return him to Massachusetts, worried that Dukakis would release him again.

Today’s Republicans have stymied every effort at reforming immigration, at achieving true equality for women, at ending the scourge of racist drug laws and criminal sentencing rules. The Republican Party has generated a wave of laws designed to make it harder for black Americans and other minorities to vote. It’s not that Republicans don’t want to deport millions of Mexicans and ban Muslims from our shores. They just don’t like to talk about it in the open.

If they’re illegal, deport them. If they can’t prove who they are, they can’t vote. If they’re doing hard drugs, prosecute them (I don’t think possession of marijuana should be worse than a parking ticket, at most). Funny part here, Blacks do much, much worse in Democratic Party run cities, shooting and killing each other wantonly. It’s almost like Democrats like Blacks killing each other.

So when Donald Trump started to attack Mexicans, Muslims and anyone else who popped into his head, Republican leaders may have thought it was bad tactics. But all that talk this year about the “Republican establishment” being aghast at Trump for his outlandish ideas was nonsense.

Muslims are so often bringing their radical Islamist ideas to our shores. They stand against everything that Democrats are for. Why do Democrats tolerate them?

Donald Trump is a boob. Hillary Clinton is a danger to America’s national security and economic health.

RNC Asks Republicans To Help Decide The 2016 Party Platform

Here’s an interesting proposal

(Fox News) Donald Trump’s rise has fueled an identity crisis of sorts for the Republican Party – and now, the GOP is seeking the public’s help defining what the party of 2016 represents.

On the heels of the final primary contests that solidified Trump’s claim to the nomination, the Republican National Committee on Wednesday launched an interactive website, www.platform.gop, for people to share what they would like to see in the party’s platform. That document will be drafted and adopted at the convention in July.

“While Democrats are letting party insiders write their platform behind closed doors, Platform.gop is proof of our Party’s philosophy of listening to the voice of the people and honoring the democratic process,” RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement.

There are 6 categories: the economy, a Constitutional government, energy and the environment, healthcare and the safety net, foreign policy and national security, and families and schools. In many, I found myself writing comments, such as in the energy one.

In the Internet age, I initially found myself wondering if each module was a bit too unwieldy, yet, these are important, and should not be something quick and easy. It requires thoughtfulness. I found myself writing multiple paragraphs on ideas for illegal immigration and making sure legal VISA holders are not allowed to become illegals.

Of course, many ideas will not be embraced by those who work in the federal government arena. They surely would not to repeal the 17th Amendment (which changed the way Senators are elected, from being appointed by state legislations to direct election), which would help return power back to the States and the People, where it belongs. They would be uninterested in instituting term limits for Congress. Or anything that limits the power of the Central Government.

Priebus, in a video on the new website, said the RNC launched the platform site so people can add their “voice to the process of establishing and reaffirming our party’s core principles during one of the most important elections of our lifetime.”

He made clear this will include an “unshakable commitment to life, individual liberty, a strong national defense and an economy that creates opportunities for every American.”

Compared to the Democratic Party platform, which is about killing the unborn, letting weirdos use the opposite sex bathrooms/showers/locker room, weakening America’s national security and defense, stifling the economy through myriad rules and regulations, and increasing governmental control over everything.

Good News: You Now Know If Your Child Is Gender Confused

From the slightly less bat guano insane than other liberals liberals at Vox

How to know if your child is transgender, according to an expert

It’s a troubling fact: Anti-transgender parents can damage their children — potentially for life. A lot of research shows that if parents or families reject, mistreat, or otherwise mishandle a child due to the child’s gender identity, they can significantly increase the risks of the child acting out, developing mental health issues, and attempting suicide. So how can a parent make sure that they get this right?

In other words, they should coddle this stupidity at the children’s young ages. Here it really comes

German Lopez: How can parents realize if their child is transgender?

Diane Ehrensaft: Like other parts of parenting, keep your eyes open and listen. Kids will send out pretty strong smoke signals that they’re working out something about gender. The parents may not be able to know that the child is transgender right away.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a blood test, which everybody wishes we did to be crystal clear. We can only get a cross-section of a child and where that child is at the moment.

Here’s what we look for:

If a child says something like the statement, “you have it wrong; I’m not the gender you think I am” or “why did God get it wrong?” or “can I go back in your tummy and come out with the right parts?” you want to pay attention to those signals.

Seriously, what kids talk like that unless their parents and/or teachers are Leftist morons espousing asininity about there being more than 2 gender pronouns, that gender is fluid, and all the other rest? Even then, it’s doubtful most kids, especially young ones, speak like that, except on a scripted TV show.

If a child, particularly a young child, is really excited about their body parts, and says “Can I grow one?” or “Can I cut this one off?” there’s often a signal of a real unhappiness with the body that you have and that marks you as a boy or a girl in the culture.

It’s a real signal that the children should be taken from the parents and placed with a sane guardian. Or someone in their life should be excluded with a restraining order for child abuse.

It, unshockingly, gets worse as you read on. And it is long long long.

Say, What’ll It Take For Climate Plan To Succeed?

It’s a good question, asked by the CBC’s Mike Crawley (from a Warmist point of view)

(CBC) Premier Kathleen Wynne’s showpiece action plan for tackling climate change will be unveiled today and it will have an impact on the way every single Ontarian consumes energy, whether through transportation, home heating, or manufacturing.

Wynne is making the fight to reduce carbon emissions a pillar of her premiership. Her climate change action plan is so sweeping, it can’t help but become a crucial ballot question when Ontarians decide whether to re-elect the Liberals in 2018.

And everyone will be dragged along whether they care or not. What will it take the plan to succeed?

1. Actually reduce carbon emissions

The whole point of an action plan to tackle climate change is to reduce the greenhouse-gas emissions that cause climate change. The Wynne government has not only agreed to specific emission reduction targets at an international conference, it has enshrined the targets in law.

The transportation and buildings sector will supposedly be the most on the hook. And, certainly, the energy sector. Which means higher costs for citizens. But, hey, don’t expect this to be one of those revenue neutral programs, where the fees/taxes/penalties put on everything will be refunded to citizens. Nope. They’ll use it for other CO2 reducing programs.

2. Not raise costs too drastically

Wynne and the Liberals are telling Ontarians the climate change plan will cost the average household just $13 extra per month. There’s plenty of skepticism about this analysis. By contrast, if you take the Liberals’ projection that cap and trade will generate $1.9 billion a year for the treasury, and assume those costs are passed on to the province’s five million households, that works out to $31 a month each.

With the average hydro bill in Ontario already up nearly 40 per cent since 2010, new price hikes to fuel your car and heat your home won’t win the climate change action plan a lot of friends. The success of the plan will depend on whether it makes too many people feel they’re paying too much.

Good luck with that. When has a government program actually come close to projections? The vast majority are way, way over.

It also has to appeal to big business and the little guy, as the third point. Of course, this is really about politics

4. Help the Liberals win the next election

Tackling climate change polls well with voters right now. It’s something most people say they want done. But whether Ontarians will actually vote for a party because it’s willing to take strong action on climate change remains to be seen. It’s also an open question about whether the Liberals are truly taking strong action.

At the end of the day, climate change is always about politics, not science. Will Ontarians respond positively? Passing all sorts of Hotcoldwetdry rules and laws worked out beyond poorly for politicians in Australia. Will it work out well in Ontario? Will citizens appreciate the ever rising costs? And here’s something to watch for: stretching the pain down the road a bit, in order for the Liberals to win the next election and become entrenched before the pain truly hits.
