Good News: It’s Easier To Get A Gun Than A Puppy

It’s apparently become a big thing for media folks to attempt to purchase firearms, particularly AR-15’s and similar “assault weapons”. All to tell us how easy it is to purchase a weapon and pass an instant background check when one is not a list which would ban them from ownership. Apparently, these media folks must have some skeletons in the closet making them think they should be denied.

And, then we have CNN’s Doug Criss

It’s easier to get a gun than to get a puppy

The way our laws are written, guns are easy to get in this land of the free.

Buying from a gun store? Background checks and waiting periods might slow you down — but only a little.

Buying from a private seller? In all but a handful of states, there’s really no hoops to jump through at all.

In fact, it’s easier to get a gun than …

First, Doug notes that it is easier than getting a driver’s license, which requires lots of training and probationary periods to find out if you are worthy to drive a multi-ton vehicle capable of crushing other people around daily. Which is not a Constitutional Right.

Then a passport, which requires a few hoops, like taking a picture to send in with your application, and, thanks to government incompetence, can take up to six weeks to receive back!

And cold medicine, which is behind the counter in many cases, as it contains pseudoephedrine, used to make meth. Neither is a Constitutional Right.

And divorce? There’s often a waiting period to get a divorce. But no waiting period, or at least not a long one, to exercise your Constitutional Right to a firearm.

Finally,

Pet: In most cases, you must be 21, show ID and you may be asked to provide personal references. In some cases, the adoption agency may do a home check before handing over the pet.

Gun: No personal references. No home visits.

NY Times: Say, “Have Muslims Created a Harmful Atmosphere for Gays?”

The Editorial Board of the NY Times has already treated us to a smattering of Blamestorming post Orlando Muslim terror attack, blaming Republicans, Conservatives, Tea Party members, the NRA, all gun owners, anyone who opposes gay marriage and men pretending to be women showering with young girls, and, of course, Christians. They’re more than willing to paint the blame with broad brushes The one group that has escaped criticism within the opinion pages is Muslims. They have a tough time even blaming the extremist version of Islam, to be referred to as Islamists.

Some, like David Brooks, trot out the standard meme that Islamic terrorists are not actually Islamic.

The Times continues it’s craziness, running a Room For Debate article entitled Have Christians Created a Harmful Atmosphere for Gays? Will there be one which replaces Christians with Muslims? Don’t bet on it. The overview of the issue for the Times is

But is it fair to say that people share any blame for Saturday night’s attack because they oppose L.G.B.T. equality for religious reasons? And while the media is focused on the role that Muslim anti-gay rhetoric may have played in this slaughter, do conservative Christians need to accept greater civil rights for L.G.B.T people in order to create a less hurtful atmosphere in the United States?

Four people are given the chance to respond, and the first is Rod Dreher, senior editor of The American Conservative magazine, who discusses the idiocy of this outlook, before getting to

But I strongly reject the oft-heard accusations from the Left that opposition to whatever identity-politics goal it pursues can only be based in hate. It’s a crude and illiberal attempt to suppress dissent.

Whatever made the radical Muslim Omar Mateen murder 49 innocents, connecting that atrocity to Christians (and Republicans) is shameless opportunism. It renders reasoned debate impossible, and turns cultural politics into a crusade against infidels.

Then we have Julie Rogers, a “speaker, blogger and and advocate for L.G.B.T. people in the church,” who says all Christians must repent for being opposed to gay marriage, gender confused in the bathroom, and, really, all LGBT values, you know, like the sado-masochism marches in San Francisco.

It’s no surprise, then, that subtle disdain for L.G.B.T. people would eventually be expressed more overtly. In the case of the shooting at Pulse in Orlando, it was devastating. The Christians I know were grieved by the massacre and they want to know how to help. The best thing they can do is repent for the ways they’ve helped create a culture that devalues L.G.B.T. people made in the image of God, and then begin to tell a better story about us in their circles. If everyone grew up hearing that God delights in gay people and we have gifts to nourish our communities, I do not think we would be targeted for violence or discrimination.

No word related to Islam is mentioned. Nor that the killer was a registered Democrat. All Christians are blamed, but not Muslims. And, unsurprisingly, the Times refused to allow my comment at her piece noting that the Orlando killer was a Muslim and a registered Democrat, who pledge fealty to ISIS.

Jim Daly is president of Focus on the Family, simply attempts to defend Christianity, while turning the debate around, wondering “What if we were to ask whether promoting same-sex marriage by citing civil rights helps create a hateful atmosphere? The door swings both ways.” But, he rejects the premise that either creates hate. Nor does he mention Islam.

They end with an article by “David P. Gushee is the distinguished university professor of Christian ethics at Mercer University and the author of “Changing Our Mind.” which calls for full inclusion of L.G.B.T. Christians in the church.” His piece is entitled Without Full Acceptance by Christians, Gays Are Demeaned and Hurt. He writes

Traditionally, Judaism, Christianity and Islam all offered powerful condemnations of same-sex activity derived from ancient sacred texts that addressed the subject in very different contexts from our own. The modern gay rights movement is only 50 years old. It has made extraordinary progress in that period, but that’s a blink of an eye compared to the accrued weight of centuries-old religious traditions speaking in God’s name.

Of course, he goes on to blame Christians and Conservatives, failing to note the atrocities done in the name of Allah and Mohamed against gays, who have formalized this hatred even within the laws of many, many Muslim countries. We get things like “even polite half-acceptance leaves L.G.B.T. people in a demeaning second-class position”, which means “your Right to free expression needs to be stopped.” But, few Christians are calling for gays to be thrown from buildings, hung or stoned to death, whipped, nor thrown in jail, as they are in so many Islamic countries, and even polls in European nations show vast numbers of Muslims who think homosexuality should be made illegal.

Will the Times run anything on Muslims being hateful towards gays? Don’t count on it.

Because You Drove A Fossil Fueled Vehicle, Volcanic Explosions May Soon Rise

Another dire prognostication from the Cult of Climastrology, preaching doom and gloom

VOLCANIC EXPLOSIONS COULD SOON BE ON THE RISE DUE TO CLIMATE CHANGE

Climate change is responsible for a great deal of adverse weather problems we experience around the world today. From hotter days to heavier floods, to stronger hurricanes, we are getting it all and more with volcanic activity also on the rise too.

The last big surge of volcanic activity was thought to have been around 10,000 years ago when the last ice age ended. Generally, the state of eruptions has been steady over the years but is slowing on the rise. An average number of volcanic explosions to occur in one year is normally around 50, with the number of earthquakes occurring greater than magnitude six at around 150.

In recent years, scientists have seen those numbers increase significantly, with some areas of the globe seeing a rise of almost 10 percent. Places that are at risk the most from the increase in volcanic activity and earthquakes are those that experience major glacial melting, such as Alaska, Iceland, and the Himalayas.

We see these increases due to the effects of global warming. The higher temperatures are causing the glaciers to melt, which is, in turn, causing a rise in the sea-level. This rise in sea-level increases the pressure on the ocean floor, while reducing pressure on the continents and it is this change in pressure that causes volcanic eruptions to happen.

So, of course, this means future doom. Why won’t you stop using electricity at home, take 2 minute showers, use 2 sheets of toilet paper, and walk to work?

Really, Warmists just can’t help themselves when it comes to linking and/or blaming everything on the fictitious notion of anthropogenic global warming.

CBS Shocked, Shocked!!!!! That It Only Took 38 Minutes To Purchase An “Assault Weapon”

It seems to be a big thing now for Leftist media fools to go into gun stores and purchase an “assault rifle” to prove how easy it is. It’s as easy as going into a Starbucks and ordering a cup of coffee, you guys!

(CBS News) In Virginia, where the Virginia Tech shootings killed 32 people, there is no waiting period for a firearm, even for a so-called assault rifle similar to those used in Orlando and San Bernardino, reports CBS News correspondent Kris Van Cleave. (WT: the VA shooter had two handguns, not a rifle)

CBS News sent a producer into a gun store in Alexandria, just outside of Washington D.C. Per Virginia law, she provided two items to prove state residency – a drivers license and voter ID card – as well as her passport to prove U.S. citizenship.

She filled out some federal and state forms requiring her name, date of birth, social security number and a few basic questions about any past criminal activity or current restraining orders. And she passed a brief electronic background check.

All told, it took 38 minutes and $1,030 for her to walk out of the store legally armed with a rifle, 100 rounds of ammunition and a 30-round magazine.

In other words, the National Instant Criminal Backgrounds Check System (NICS) worked. Did said producer think she would be turned down for something in her past? Or, is she just another law abiding citizen?

“Throughout most of America, you could go into a gun store and buy an AR-15, just like you’d go into a Starbucks and buy a cup of coffee,” said UCLA law professor Adam Winkler.

It’s been a long time since I wasted money buying Starbucks coffee, but, I doubt they have added background checks, have they? BTW, coffee is not a Constitutional Right. Oh, and just to make it fun

Except it wasn’t an AR-15. Great journalism there guys, you can’t even name the actual rifle purchased.

Skeptic Subpoenaed By Massachusetts AG Has Pithy Response

Unfortunately, this response is not appropriate for court, which is certainly where this is headed

(Daily Caller) Alex Epstein had a terse response to a subpoena sent by Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey Wednesday.

Healey demanded the oil giant ExxonMobil hand over 40 years of documents, including information pertaining to the company’s dealings with about a dozen think tanks and trade associations, which have been targeted by environmental groups for opposing left-wing global warming policies.

Healey’s subpoena targeted the Center for Industrial Progress (CIP), a for-profit think tank founded by Epstein. Epstein wasn’t exactly happy about being targeted for disagreeing with Healey on global warming, so he sent the AG’s office the following response:

https://twitter.com/AlexEpstein/status/743159705963470848

Good for him. CIP isn’t even funded by Exxon Mobile. This is an intimidation tactic by Healey, who has subpoenaed a wide range of skeptic organizations, designed to shut down First Amendment Rights, especially free speech and free association. It is authoritarian government abuse at its finest, but, then, this is what Warmists want. They’ll be very upset when it is used against themselves.

Meanwhile, Exxon has gone to court, asking that Healey’s subpoena against the company be squashed

Exxon Mobil Corp asked a federal court on Wednesday to throw out a subpoena that would force the oil company to hand over decades of documents as part of a wide-ranging inquiry into whether it misled investors about climate change risks.

In its filing in a U.S. district court, Exxon said Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey overreached with her April subpoena and that it violated constitutional amendments on free speech, unreasonable search and seizure and equal protection.

It’s an abusive fishing expedition known as Lawfare, designed to use the power of the Government to attack and destroy any entity engaged in Wrongthink.

NY Times Now Blames The NRA For Orlando

Yesterday the NY Times Editorial Board was blaming Republicans, Conservatives, and anyone who is not a Muslim that has a problem with gays, gay marriage, and allowing the gender confused (as well as pretenders who use the laws for Bad Purposes) into the opposite biological bathrooms, showers, and changing rooms. But, no blame towards ISIS, Al Qaeda, or extremist Islam in general.

Today they have another group to blame

The N.R.A.’s Complicity in Terrorism

“America is absolutely awash with easily obtainable firearms,” one spokesman for Al Qaeda said in a 2011 recruitment video. “So what are you waiting for?”

Few places on earth make it easier than the United States for a terrorist to buy assault weapons to mow down scores of people in a matter of minutes. The horrific massacre in Orlando last weekend is only the latest example. And all this is made vastly easier by a gun lobby that has blocked sensible safety measures at every turn, and by members of Congress who seem to pledge greater allegiance to the firearms industry than to their own constituencies. There is a word for their role in this form of terrorism: complicity.

Is the NRA complicit with the use of scary looking rifles for the attacks in Paris?

What Democrats and the NY Times, but, I repeat myself, want is passage of a bill allowing anyone on the terrorist watch list to be barred from being able to purchase a gun. The problem with the list is that it is so vague that it is certain to be abused. All that is necessary is a “reasonable belief”. No one in government would ever take advantage of that, would they?

Some critics say the government’s terror watch lists sweep up far too many innocent people. But the Feinstein bill allowed law enforcement officials to block a sale only after showing that a prospective gun buyer on the watch list was known or suspected to be involved in terrorism. If blocked, the person could challenge that denial in federal court.

Yes, they can. As long as they are notified correctly that they are on the list, and file within 60 days. Oh, and the Attorney General can withhold certain documents from the court. Page 11 of the Bill. There is still a 4th and 5th Amendment.

Other effective measures include universal background checks to intercept people who are legally barred from gun ownership, like those convicted of domestic abuse and the mentally ill;

We already have a backgrounds check requirement in place. Oh, and the tougher one in California did not work particularly well for the San Bernardino Muslim extremists, did it?

and limits on magazine capacity, which some states have already enacted.

Did not work in San Bernardino, but, Dems love their “clip” limits

Mr. Mateen was able to kill 49 people largely because the assault rifle he was using could fire 30-round clips as fast as he could pull the trigger. No civilian anywhere should be allowed to have that ability.

The Founders of this nation would disagree.  So would the 2nd Amendment. If Democrats do not like it, they should attempt to repeal or modify the 2nd.

Regardless, this is the same old same old from the leftist gun grabbers, who cynically use any tragedy to blame the gun, rather than the user of the gun. Unless they are White, of course. Or Christian. Then they have no problem assigning blame while also using the incident to take guns away from those citizens who are not using guns for nefarious purposes. But, they just can’t wrap their minds around blaming Muslim extremists.

The NY Times’ Charles Blow calls the Orlando killer, Omar Mateen, an “American Monster“, and utterly fails to note that he’s a radical Muslim who pledged allegiance to ISIS multiple times. Of course, Blow blames guns, the NRA, and Republicans and gun owners. But, not radical Islam.

This is the narrative, where Leftists will do all they can to attack the law abiding gun owners and take away their rights will protecting the Islamic extremists.

Anyhow, remember, the GOP offered an alternative piece of legislation for being able to block people on the no fly/terrorist watch list from obtaining a firearm, which Democrats blocked, apparently because it allowed people exercise their 4th and 5th Amendment protections. They should offer it again.

Wacky Leftists Think Everyone Should Take The No Shower Challenge

This has all the hallmarks of the Barking Moonbat left: unhinged environmentalism (as opposed to sane environmentalism), climate change, and plain old wackadoodle, with a throwback to the dirty hippy period

The no-showering challenge: why we should all take part

James Hamblin, senior editor of the Atlantic, recently joined the unwashed masses. As part of his series If Our Bodies Could Talk, Hamblin, a relatively sane-looking man, took on a no-showering challenge to examine the effect of overcleansing the body. He reduced the number of showers he took and eliminated shampoo and soap when he did. (snip)

It’s not just scent or aesthetics, either – although dermatologists suggest that slowing down on soap use can improve acne and eczema. Reducing the frequency of showers (and the number of cleansing products used) has very real implications for our environment. The average shower lasts seven minutes and uses 65 litres of water.

That’s 65 litres of clean, potable water that we’re infusing with suds and washing down the drain each and every day – sometimes more than once.

But, no worries about smell

If this whole thing is giving you the heebie-jeebies as you recall the last time you were pressed cheek to jowl with those who evidently already skimp on the showers – and have clearly not reached the hallowed scent-free stage yet – relax. Many cleansing-reduction enthusiasts still use deodorant if they find it necessary (everyone’s natural scent varies in, er, intensity, and can be affected by a host of factors including diet, hydration and exercise) and hand-washing with soap is still recommended as a vital way cut down on the spread of infectious diseases.

No matter how much these nutters try and justify, they always seem to want to take human society backwards hundreds, if not thousands, of years.

NYDN Gun Grabber Decides To Shoot An AR-15, Basically Wets His Skivvies

It doesn’t matter that the Orlando ISIS loving killer did not use an AR-15 or any variant. But, he, facts don’t matter. We already have a Philly.com writer claiming it took her just 7 minutes to purchase an AR-15. It’d take longer than that to fill out the paperwork. Did she expect to be turned down during the instant background check? And it took two Huffington Post writers just “38 minutes to walk out of a gun shop with a death machine.” Yes, an AR-15. Interestingly, they surely drove to the gun shop in a a multi-ton death machine. Nothing tops this, though, from NY Daily News hysteric Gersh Kuntzman

Firing an AR-15 is horrifying, menacing and very very loud

It feels like a bazooka — and sounds like a cannon.

One day after 49 people were killed in the Orlando shooting, I traveled to Philadelphia to better understand the firepower of military-style assault weapons and, hopefully, explain their appeal to gun lovers.

But mostly, I was just terrified.

It’s been awhile since I fired one myself, but, it was about as bothersome as firing my Walther P22, which is a .22 caliber handgun. You want terrified? Well, more like heavily surprised? Have someone fire a Desert Eagle in the lane 6 down. Which wasn’t allowed and got the guy kicked out. They fire actual cannons at ECU Pirates football games (using blanks, obviously.) Kuntzman should go to a Civil War or Independence War re-enactment to see a real cannon.

And, if it feels like a bazooka, he should go to the gym more.

Not in my hands. I’ve shot pistols before, but never something like an AR-15. Squeeze lightly on the trigger and the resulting explosion of firepower is humbling and deafening (even with ear protection).

I listen to heavy metal louder than an AR-15. Much, much louder.

The recoil bruised my shoulder. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary case of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable.

We have a saying here down south: Bless your heart. The shell casings would not be flying by your face if you’re holding the weapon correctly. The weapon is made to have little kick. One of the reasons women love to have them for self defense (which Liberal gun grabbers want to take away and replace with rape whistles). Nor is he firing an old-school black powder musket to get the sulfur odor. PTSD?

Even in semi-automatic mode, it is very simple to squeeze off two dozen rounds before you even know what has happened. In fully automatic mode, it doesn’t take any imagination to see dozens of bodies falling in front of your barrel.

Is Kuntzman claiming that he was able to fire the weapon in automatic mode? I didn’t see that in the video at the article. Nor do they come in automatic. But, most gun grabbing liberals reading the article wouldn’t understand the lie.

Over at Bearing Arms, Mike McDaniel skewers Kuntzman, including

As a fellow member of the patriarchy, I worry about Mr. Kuntzman’s masculinity and self-image. I have, on numerous occasions, introduced females, including little girls no older than 10 and no more than 70 pounds, to the awe-inspiring power of the AR-15. Granted, they had to fire from a supported position, lacking the strength to support the 7-pound rifle for long otherwise, but after firing many rounds, their universal reaction was one of delight–they found the little rifle’s accuracy and ease of use pleasing–and not a bruise among them. The same is true of adult women, many no more than 110 pounds sopping wet.

And over at Legal Insurrection, Kemberlee Kaye notes

If a .223 rifle bruises your shoulder, you should eat more bananas.

I wonder when Kuntzman will decry the use of fully automatic weapons by the security details for Obama and Hillary?

More: Frank of Frank’s Gun Shop, where Kuntzman went, replies

Yesterday the man in this video from the NY Daily News called and asked if he could come and interview us about the basic principles of how an AR-15 works. We acknowledged his offer so that we could prove that an AR-15 is indeed a great and safe weapon as stated in the video. After the video was filmed there was another Q&A type conversation on how things work in other countries, what are some of the things others believe would be a step into the right direction of gun control. To our knowledge we did not know that Mr. Kuntzman would completely turn things around and make our establishment look like one of anti-gun advocates…..

Currently we are doing everything we can to take this article down because after reading it we are just as disgusted about it as all of you are…..

And for the record, if you get a bruised shoulder or PTSD from shooting an AR-15 you may be a Katie Couric, liberal with ought testicular fortitude
