Skeptic Subpoenaed By Massachusetts AG Has Pithy Response

Unfortunately, this response is not appropriate for court, which is certainly where this is headed

(Daily Caller) Alex Epstein had a terse response to a subpoena sent by Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey Wednesday.

Healey demanded the oil giant ExxonMobil hand over 40 years of documents, including information pertaining to the company’s dealings with about a dozen think tanks and trade associations, which have been targeted by environmental groups for opposing left-wing global warming policies.

Healey’s subpoena targeted the Center for Industrial Progress (CIP), a for-profit think tank founded by Epstein. Epstein wasn’t exactly happy about being targeted for disagreeing with Healey on global warming, so he sent the AG’s office the following response:

Good for him. CIP isn’t even funded by Exxon Mobile. This is an intimidation tactic by Healey, who has subpoenaed a wide range of skeptic organizations, designed to shut down First Amendment Rights, especially free speech and free association. It is authoritarian government abuse at its finest, but, then, this is what Warmists want. They’ll be very upset when it is used against themselves.

Meanwhile, Exxon has gone to court, asking that Healey’s subpoena against the company be squashed

Exxon Mobil Corp asked a federal court on Wednesday to throw out a subpoena that would force the oil company to hand over decades of documents as part of a wide-ranging inquiry into whether it misled investors about climate change risks.

In its filing in a U.S. district court, Exxon said Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey overreached with her April subpoena and that it violated constitutional amendments on free speech, unreasonable search and seizure and equal protection.

It’s an abusive fishing expedition known as Lawfare, designed to use the power of the Government to attack and destroy any entity engaged in Wrongthink.

The very fact we need to use words like “lawfare” and “wrongthink” shows the depravity of the left. Not satisfied by the freedom to present their argument those on the left design to shut down and out opposing arguments. Wow, how open minded.

Free speech does not protect fraudsters
That is also why your Lord Monckeyton is not allowed to see his quack medicine that cures cancer and MS

  4. John says:

Must if those think tanks like the Heartland Institute that rrceive money from fossil fuel companies also were paid shills for big tobacco when they tried to reassure us that smoking didn’t cause cancer
    Free speech doesn’t cover fraud

  5. John says:

Teach any comment on that big add in the Walk Street Journal quoting the CEO of your beloved Exxon saying that it is true that the burning of fossil fuels is causing the rise in temps ???
Is he too now deserving of being called a lefty ??

  6. Jl says:

“Free speech does not protect fraudsters.” It does protect people who haven’t been convicted of fraud, wouldn’t you agree, John? “Heartland Insitute that receives money from fossil fuel companies were paid shills for bid tobacco…” Could you show us where receiving money from fossil fuel companies is illegal, John? This should be good. But if it’s somehow wrong, then climates scientists receiving money from “big government” must also be wrong, wouldn’t you agree? As usual, seems you haven’t thought this one out very well. Again
