No Pinup Today

For the first time since, I believe, 2005, there will be no Pinup post. Power went out briefly around 7pm, came on, flickered constantly, snapped off briefly a few times, then guess it went out for good around 130am. Came back briefly around 6am, but, did not stay on.

While there’s not a lot of writing with the pinup posts, there’s a lot of cut and paste, going back and forth between pages. Takes at least an hour, and doing it on a phone? Nope. Regular posts? Ok. These? Forget about it.

If power comes back, I’ll drop one tonight. Might as well go in to work. If they have power.

Politico Poll: Most Citizens Want Trump To Stay In

In the wake of Trump’s terrible comments from 2005 when he was a Democrat…and, again, most men and women say the same or worse…Politico has an interesting poll

A wave of Republican officials abandoned Donald Trump on Saturday, but, at least for now, rank-and-file Republicans are standing by the party’s presidential candidate, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll conducted immediately after audio was unearthed Friday that had the GOP nominee crudely bragging about groping women and trying to lure a married woman into an affair.

Overall, fewer than four-in-10 voters — 39 percent — think Trump should end his presidential campaign, while only slightly more voters, 45 percent, think he should not drop out.

But voters are largely viewing Trump’s comments through their own partisan lens: 70 percent of Democrats say Trump should end his campaign, but just 12 percent of Republicans — and 13 percent of female Republicans — agree.

The poll was based on hearing the Trump comments and then his subsequent apology. It creates an interesting dynamic, where the political class are abandoning Trump and calling for him to step aside, while the rank and file are not (really, he shouldn’t have been the nominee in the first place, but, that’s a different post).

And the poll goes on to note that voters may take it out on the elected Republicans who abandon Trump.

Let’s face it: we know Hillary and Bill, among other Democrats, have done and said far, far, far worse. And are give a pass by Democrats and their compliant media. Trump’s comments were despicable, but, then who among us is without sin and can throw the stone?

Of course, we arent running for President, and, shouldn’t we be better than the scum of the Democrats?

The World Is Totally Committed To Net Zero Carbon Pollution, You Guys!

The world is now committed to zero net climate pollution by 2100

Among the many (many, many, many) differences between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, one of the most consequential is this: Clinton says she would support the terms of the landmark UN Paris Agreement on climate change; Trump says he would “cancel” it.

That agreement, which this week was ratified by enough countries to become international law, calls for the world to become carbon neutral this century. Basically that means no fossil fuel pollution, or none we don’t figure out how to slurp out of the atmosphere. That’s a lofty and critical goal if we want cities like New York and New Orleans to survive the onslaught of rising seas, and if we want future generations to inherit a habitable planet.

What follows is a lot of bitching about Trump and saying that he couldn’t really pull the U.S. out of the Paris accord, which is a bunch of hogwash. We’ve been through this, but, essentially, since it is a) voluntary and b) not subject to force of U.S. law since it was designed to avoid Congressional approval, Trump could simply write a presidential directive saying “nope, we’re done.” We wouldn’t have to wait 3 years, and Sutter writes, or 4 years, as others write.

The true strength of the Paris Agreement, in my view, is that it sets a tangible goal for climate policy: Limit warming “well below” 2 degrees Celsius, which is measured as a temperature increase since the industrial revolution.

Actually, no. First, the world hasn’t warmed 2C since 1850. Less than half that. It was actually designed to limit the rise to 2C overall since 1850 by 2100, a number Warmists say is still too high. And most committed (meaning Barking Moonbat Unhinged) Warmists say the Paris accord will not achieve any goals.

And underlying that goal: Eliminate all net carbon pollution by 2100. (The legalese in the the text of the agreement says the goal is “to achieve a balance between anthropogenic emissions by sources and removals by sinks of greenhouse gases in the second half of this century.” But that essentially means zero net carbon emissions.)

OK. We can start by all Warmists giving up their own use of fossil fuels and making their lives carbon neutral.

The fact that the world agrees on that bold goal should be cause for celebration.

Most agreed on the Kyoto Protocol, and virtually every single one of them utterly failed to keep their pledges, and Kyoto was much stronger in terms of necessary ratifaction by countries.. Think they’ll keep their pledges with Paris, when is mostly voluntary?

(Lots of whining about Matthew, how the Paris climate accord will fail to keep the world below 2C, and so on)

Following the only U.S. vice-presidential debate on Tuesday, May Boeve, executive director of 350.org, said: “Yet again, tonight’s debate moderator dropped the ball on climate change. Silence is another form of denial, and the TV networks are doing the public a great disservice by ignoring the issue, especially when there are such clear differences between the candidates.”

Well, that’s a new one. If you don’t speak up in support of policies that will raise your cost of living and restrict your liberty, you must be a denier. Even if you are a card carrying member of the Cult.

So, I wonder, what does it say about people who talk the talk but refuse to walk the walk? Wouldn’t this make them the worst deniers of all?

CNN: Matthew Looks Like The Future Of Climate Change Or Something

But, now, they are all linked to anthropogenic climate change, and Warmists are all going bat guano insane, most of whom aren’t even climatologists. Hurricane Matthew looks a lot like the future of climate change

As Hurricane Matthew continues to churn through the Atlantic, leaving more than 260 dead in the Caribbean and threatening the Florida coast, the focus must be on public safety.

People in the storm’s path must seek refuge, as Florida’s governor has implored. And those in the Caribbean likely will need assistance as they mourn their dead and clean up the wreckage.

But as the impact of the storm becomes clear, there’s an uncomfortable truth the rest of us should wrestle with: Hurricane Matthew looks a lot like future climate change. And if we want to stop storms like this from getting even more intense, we need to do everything we can to rid the economy of fossil fuels.

“We expect to see more high-intensity events, Category 4 and 5 events, that are around 13% of total hurricanes but do a disproportionate amount of damage,” Kerry Emanuel, a professor of atmospheric science at MIT,told The Guardian. “The theory is robust and there are hints that we are already beginning to see it in nature.”

Uh huh. How many CoC prognostications have failed to materialize? Gore’s doomsday clock failed. The Arctic is not ice free. We’ve had 25 years of failed tipping points. They’ve been pretty much wrong on everything. All these failures do not stop Warmists from making prognostications, or even from trotting out the same failed ones. Including on hurricanes. Even though they are wrong, and are only making a Wild Ass Guess. Heck, the IPCC, for all their insanity, guessing, and politicization, refuses to make the link

Current data sets indicate no significant observed trends in global tropical cyclone frequency over the past century and it remains uncertain whether any reported long-term increases in tropical cyclone frequency are robust, after accounting for past changes in observing capabilities. Regional trends in tropical cyclone frequency and the frequency of very intense tropical cyclones have been identified in the North Atlantic and these appear robust since the 1970s (very high confidence). However, argument reigns over the cause of the increase and on longer time scales the fidelity of these trends is debated with different methods for estimating undercounts in the earlier part of the record providing mixed conclusions. No robust trends in annual numbers of tropical storms, hurricanes and major hurricanes counts have been identified over the past 100 years in the North Atlantic basin.

Warmists have been holding their hysteria since 2012 and Superstorm Sandy (which wasn’t a hurricane at landfall, and was made really bad due to a non-tropical cold front). There’s been really nothing since then, so, it’s quite a bit of pent up apoplexy and doomsaying.

But, hey, if the future is only having to worry about a hurricane making landfall in the US (it still hasn’t) every 4-5 years, with very few tropical systems making landfall every 4-5 years, that would be a good thing.

October Surprise: Democrat Donald Trump Caught On Tape Making Lewd Remarks

When you think “October Surprise”, you probably thought it would be something related to Hillary. Perhaps her Wall Street speeches, which most Democrats seem to be blowing off, because party before country. Perhaps something from her emails. Something about Bill’s typical sexual assaults and disgusting comments about women. Nope

(Washington Post) Donald Trump bragged in vulgar terms about kissing, groping and trying to have sex with women during a 2005 conversation caught on a hot microphone, saying that “when you’re a star, they let you do it,” according to a video obtained by The Washington Post.

The video captures Trump talking with Billy Bush, then of “Access Hollywood,” on a bus with the show’s name written across the side. They were arriving on the set of “Days of Our Lives” to tape a segment about Trump’s cameo on the soap opera.

Late Friday night, following sharp criticism by Republican leaders, Trump issued a short video statement saying, “I said it, I was wrong, and I apologize.” But he also called the revelation “a distraction from the issues we are facing today.” He said that his “foolish” words are much different than the words and actions of Bill Clinton, whom he accused of abusing women, and Hillary Clinton, whom he accused of having “bullied, attacked, shamed and intimidated his victims.”

“I’ve never said I’m a perfect person, nor pretended to be someone that I’m not. I’ve said and done things I regret, and the words released today on this more than a decade-old video are one of them. Anyone who knows me knows these words don’t reflect who I am,” Trump said.

The link has the transcript of the recording, which, for the most part is simply men talk, which can get pretty crude. I’m not going to defend Trump: that’s on him. What man out there can’t say they haven’t had conversations that are like this, or worse? Heck, have you ever heard women talk? My goodness, it can be disturbing what they say.

Let me point out a few things, though. All in all, Trump has never done anything as bad as the Clintons. He has never been continuously accused of sexual assault and rape over decades. He’s never essentially put Americans in harms way and left them to die. Sure, he hides his taxes. Hillary hides everything, including her emails and her speeches. Her scandals would be huge, if she had an R next to her name.

That’s right. So, he was speaking Democrat at the time.

This all has implications for Trump. You know the media will beat the drum on a constant basis with this tape. Rep. Jason Chaffetz has withdrawn his endorsement. Rep Mike Coffman (R) says Trump should step aside, as does Rep. Barbara Comstock (R). Senator Kelly Ayotte calls the comments offensive and inappropriate.

This election should have been easy for Republicans. It should have been a cakewalk. The #NeverTrumpers and those of us who were very much against Trump but could still be woo’d warned about the danger of nominating Trump. The question now is “will this resonate with the voters?”

Hurricanes like Matthew leave undocumented immigrants with fewer options to rebuild

Undocumented immigrants living in Florida may have the most to lose as Hurricane Matthew hit the state Thursday night, bringing with it dangerous storm surge, destructive winds, and flooding rainfall.

Florida has about 610,000 undocumented immigrants, who contribute more than $588 million in state and local taxes according to recent calculations. But because of their legal status in the country, they are prohibited from receiving some forms of disaster assistance since they are less likely to be insured and may not have Social Security numbers to qualify for aid.

Right. They have the most to lose. In that case, all 610,000 can get the hell out and go back where they came from illegally.

“All individuals, regardless of citizenship status, that have been impacted by a Hurricane are eligible for short-term, non-cash, in-kind emergency disaster relief programs,” a FEMA spokesperson told ThinkProgress via email. Programs include search and rescue, medical care, shelter, food and water, as well as “Disaster Legal Services and Crisis Counseling.”

And then they should be deported.

Slate Tells Us The Most Important Issue With Matthew: The Election

People have died and may die from Hurricane Matthew. They’ve been injured and there will certainly be more injures. People will be without power, their homes and property will be damaged. But, know what is the most important part?

Hurricane Matthew Could Have Devastating Consequences for the Election

If Hurricane Matthew is as devastating to Florida as forecasters have predicted, it could be a human tragedy costing people their lives, health, homes, and personal property. Beyond that initial tragedy, though, the storm also may have dire electoral implications, potentially affecting the outcome of the 2016 presidential election and landing emergency election litigation from Florida once again before the (now-deadlocked) United States Supreme Court.

Florida is seen as a state key to Donald Trump’s chances of victory over Hillary Clinton for the presidency, and this storm could have major impacts on voter registration and voting.

In other words, Trump might win, because, apparently, Democrat voters are too incompetent to register early and to get to voting places in a timely manner.
