ACLU Has Hissy Fit Over Ceremony Honoring Police At High School Football Game

You’ll be amazed at what the ACLU called the ceremony. Though probably not shocked, because this is the kind of thing the ACLU does

Ceremony honoring police before HS game sends ‘frightening message,’ ACLU says

A ceremony honoring law enforcement, military and first responders before a high school football game Friday night drew criticism from the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey because of an underlying “frightening message.”

The ceremony was held before a highly-anticipated Shore Conference clash between two topped ranked teams in the state, Middletown South and Toms River North.

The ceremony, organized by Middletown police Deputy Chief Stephen Dollinger, featured State Police Pipes and Drums of the Blue and Gold, state and local mounted units, military personnel from all branches of service and officers from surrounding police departments and sheriff’s units.

It also honored the Linden police officer who was wounded in a shootout withAhmad Khan Rahimi, who is accused of bombings in Seaside Park, Elizabeth and New York City.

And here’s where the ACLU had a fit

Dollinger told the Asbury Park Press before the event that the ceremony was also meant to respond to pro athletes who have taken a knee during pre-game performances of the national anthem, most notably by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

“It’s OK to stand up for social justice, inequality and reform,” Dollinger told the newspaper. “It’s another thing to not stand up for the national anthem.”

The ACLU of NJ really didn’t like that anyone would dare use their 1st Amendment Rights to respond to others engaging in their 1st Amendment Rights

“As initially described, the event appeared to honor police officers, veterans, service members, and first responders,” the ACLU wrote to the district. “According to press reports, however, the event is being used to intimidate and ostracizepeople who express their views about systemic racism and social just.”

“Law enforcement officers are sworn to protect the constitution, and it is a disservice to the students and players that an event that should focus on them, their families, and their communities is being used to send a message that people who express concerns about disparities in the criminal justice system are unwelcome, disloyal or unpatriotic,” the letter states.

Jasmine Crenshaw, an organizer with the ACLU-NJ, said the event sends a “frightening message” that law enforcement will not tolerate people expressing their views on the nation’s “history of unequal treatment and systematic oppression.”

“Entrance to one of the biggest sporting events in the area should not require that someone accept an atmosphere that suppresses political protest,” Crenshaw said in a statement. “The magnitude of this event chills the belief that police should be held accountable when they abuse their power or discriminate against people of color, and pressures student athletes to act as props of the police.”

Free speech for me, but not for thee. It’s simply typical of people nowadays to turn the amplifier up to 11 on everything, and overly magnify everything.

Really, though, can we simply watch sports without political messages? Personally, I don’t want to see them either way. Just let me watch a game.

NY Times: An Illegal Immigrant Murderer Is Not Really An Illegal Immigrant Or Something

The lead opinion piece at the Internet version of the NY Times is a doozy (note: the dead tree edition has a different headline)

My Wife’s Killer Was Not an ‘Illegal Immigrant’

On Nov. 1, 2006, I found my wife, Adrienne Shelly, dead in her West Village office. Adrienne, an actor and filmmaker, had been brutally murdered by a 19-year-old undocumented Ecuadorean construction worker; he later said they were having an argument and, fearing she would report him and have him deported, he killed her and staged her death so it would appear to be a suicide. Our daughter was just 2 years old at the time.

So, he was unlawfully present in the United States, meaning he was an illegal immigrant.

Given the anger and grief I still feel, I could easily be seduced by Donald J. Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric that is the cornerstone of his presidential run. “They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists,” he said as he began his campaign in 2015. And in these final weeks before the election, rather than tacking to the middle, he seems to be doubling down. “We’ve got some bad hombres,” he said in last week’s debate, referring to immigrants who commit crimes.

So, in other words, this is mostly a screed against Trump from a Democrat. He admits he’s a Democrat in an early paragraph, moving towards

But Adrienne was not murdered by an illegal immigrant, per se. She fell victim to a depraved killer who simply happened to be an undocumented immigrant. It is an obvious distinction, almost too obvious, but it’s an important one to consider as the country goes further down the dangerous path of demonizing those not born here.

Just happened to be her illegally. So, she was killed by an illegal immigrant. Seriously, the lengths Democrats go to defend illegals is breathtaking. Even though Trump has never specifically mentioned his wife, as he writes in the article. And he continues defending illegals just like you expect, with typical leftist talking points.

While I believe that the country must do more to secure its borders, deport noncitizen criminals and protect Americans from foreign terrorists, I also believe we must find a realistic, humane path to citizenship for the millions of decent, hard-working immigrants who love this country as much as I do, regardless of whether they are documented or not. We need the kind of compassionate reform that Democrats have been advocating for decades in the face of persistent Republican obstructionism.

That is what Adrienne would want.

First, she’d probably not want to be murdered, especially by someone who should not have been in the country in the first place. Second, for all Trump’s bluster, he does want to secure the borders. Hillary does not. He wants illegal criminals out. Hillary does not. Trump does want to protect Americans from foreign terrorists. Hillary? Not so much. Interestingly, if we go by Trump’s comments from 2012, he has the same opinion

In a June 2012 interview with CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Trump said he didn’t believe in deporting immigrants who “had done a great job,” according to CNN’s KFile.

Trump said he was “probably down the middle” when asked about his views on immigrant labor.

“Because I also understand how, as an example, you have people in this country for 20 years, they’ve done a great job, they’ve done wonderfully, they’ve gone to school, they’ve gotten good marks, they’re productive — now we’re supposed to send them out of the country, I don’t believe in that, Michelle, and you understand that,” he told the host. “I don’t believe in a lot things that are being said.”

Just remember, in Liberal World, linking immigration status with crime is a no no. Even though Mr. Ostroy somewhat contradicts himself with that bit about “noncitizen criminals.”

Months Too Late: Trump Announces His “Contract With The American Voter”

This is the type of thing that should have been announced near the time of the Republican convention, if not his speech at the RNC. At this point, it looks desparate

(UK Daily Mail) Donald Trump planted a flag on hallowed ground Saturday morning by laying out near the Gettysburg National Battlefield what he would do in his first 100 days as President of the United States.

Touting ‘the kind of change that only arrives once in a lifetime,’ Trump told an audience of about 300 invited guests that he will ‘drain the swamp’ in Washington, replacing the current government ‘with a new government of, by and for the people.’

The symbolism factor was high, with a campaign aide telling reporters Friday night that the Civil War battle in Gettysburg memorialized by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863 ‘was the moment when the war turned.’

The problem here, besides being super late in the game, possibly too darned late, OK, assuredly too late, is that, as the Washington Post put it, Lincoln spoke of unity, while Trump spoke of a rigged system. He still hasn’t specifically asked for the votes of Conservatives.

He summed up the substance of his campaign in a ‘Contract With The American Voter’ – a point-by-point set of initiatives that track with the themes he has focused on for 16 months.

Take the name “Trump” out of it, and it mostly reads very well for the Republican voter, things that he proposes to start on day one in office. On government and corruption

  • FIRST, propose a Constitutional Amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress;
  • SECOND, a hiring freeze on all federal employees to reduce federal workforce through attrition (exempting military, public safety, and public health);
  • THIRD, a requirement that for every new federal regulation, two existing regulations must be eliminated;
  • FOURTH, a 5 year-ban on White House and Congressional officials becoming lobbyists after they leave government service;
  • FIFTH, a lifetime ban on White House officials lobbying on behalf of a foreign government;
  • SIXTH, a complete ban on foreign lobbyists raising money for American elections.

Some are perhaps a bit lofty, but, hey, why not? For the American worker

  • FIRST, I will announce my intention to renegotiate NAFTA or withdraw from the deal under Article 2205
  • SECOND, I will announce our withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership
  • THIRD, I will direct my Secretary of the Treasury to label China a currency manipulator
  • FOURTH, I will direct the Secretary of Commerce and U.S. Trade Representative to identify all foreign trading abuses that unfairly impact American workers and direct them to use every tool under American and international law to end those abuses immediately
  • FIFTH, I will lift the restrictions on the production of $50 trillion dollars’ worth of job-producing American energy reserves, including shale, oil, natural gas and clean coal.
  • SIXTH, lift the Obama-Clinton roadblocks and allow vital energy infrastructure projects, like the Keystone Pipeline, to move forward
  • SEVENTH, cancel billions in payments to U.N. climate change programs and use the money to fix America’s water and environmental infrastructure

For the most part, this is big ball, that rather avoids the “bread and butter” issues that American citizens really care about. It’s aimed more at the people who really follow politics. Don’t forget, TPP is loathed equally by lots of Republicans and Democrats.

  • FIRST, cancel every unconstitutional executive action, memorandum and order issued by President Obama
  • SECOND, begin the process of selecting a replacement for Justice Scalia from one of the 20 judges on my list, who will uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States
  • THIRD, cancel all federal funding to Sanctuary Cities
  • FOURTH, begin removing the more than 2 million criminal illegal immigrants from the country and cancel visas to foreign countries that won’t take them back
  • FIFTH, suspend immigration from terror-prone regions where vetting cannot safely occur. All vetting of people coming into our country will be considered extreme vetting.

Number one is something he should have been extremely vocal about months and months ago. Too little, too late.

He then jumps into 10 things for the first 100 days (it’s up to you to read the accompanying text)

  1. Middle Class Tax Relief And Simplification Act.
  2. End The Offshoring Act
  3. American Energy & Infrastructure Act.
  4. School Choice And Education Opportunity Act
  5. Repeal and Replace Obamacare Act
  6. Affordable Childcare and Eldercare Act.
  7. End Illegal Immigration Act
  8. Restoring Community Safety Act
  9. Restoring National Security Act
  10. Clean up Corruption in Washington Act

This is his pledge.

Not too be too much of a negative nelly, but, again, it’s too darned late. Instead of whining about the media as much as he did, complaining about a rigged system, talking about this and that and the other, he should have been focused on the things in his Contract. He could have easily earned the votes of Republicans, while increasing his trust factor. Even with this, I don’t really trust that he would do what he says in this Contract. Instead of spending more time fighting with Republicans, he could have enticed them with this Contract. #NeverTrump might have mostly faded away. There would have been enthusiasm for policy, rather than personality.

Too darned late in the game.

Can You Guess Why Halloween Candy Prices Are Rising?

Obviously, it’s because you drove a fossil fueled vehicle to work

Halloween Candy Prices Are On the Rise for a Surprising Reason

Surprising? No. These Warmists pull this schtick on a constant basis, and just can’t help linking man-induced climate change to everything

Is there anything more horrifying than a candy shortage? Although we’re in the clear for now, supply hasn’t matched demand for years, and Halloween candy prices have changed significantly. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that prices of the sweet stuff have been steadily rising since 1998, and a lot of that hike has to do with a much larger problem: climate change.

In particular, the cost of chocolate has gone up due to a decrease in cocoa production as a result of changing climates in bean-producing regions. USA Today reports that cocoa bean crops are being devastated by climate-related issues including unpredictable rainfall and rising temperatures. Meanwhile, demand for chocolate is higher than ever, resulting in an imbalance between how much cocoa is produced and how much chocolate is consumed.

Bummer: Americans More Afraid Of Clowns Than ‘Climate Change’

On the bright side, ‘climate change’ didn’t come in last or next to last place! Here’s Vox being Vox

Americans are more afraid of clowns than climate change, terrorism, and … death

We live in scary times.

In 2016, we’ve seen hundreds of mass shootings. We’ve watched the gap between rich and poor Americans widen. We’ve witnessed the fulminant rise of Donald Trump, whose nomination left Vox editor in chief Ezra Klein “truly afraid” for the first time in American politics.

But in the eyes of our citizens, there is a graver threat at hand: clowns.

In a poll we conducted with Morning Consult last week, 42 percent of Americans said they were, in some capacity, afraid of clowns. Among voters ages 18 to 29, nearly one in three admitted to at least a minor case of coulrophobia — fear of clowns.

The younger the group, the more afraid of clowns they become. Probably because those of us who are older understand that clowns aren’t really anything to be afraid of, and the jokes about them being scary and stuff on TV and in movies are jokes. Young people do not seem to have a sense of humor or reality nowadays.

Anyhow

We compared the results of our poll with a poll recently conducted by Chapman University, which asked 1,511 Americans to identify their greatest fears from a list of topics. Clowns outranked every single fear, save for “government corruption.” (Note that the Chapman poll only included “very afraid” and “afraid” as voting options, while our poll had “very afraid,” “somewhat afraid,” and “a little afraid.”)

42% were afraid of clowns. Just 32% were afraid of ‘climate change’. After 25+ years of spreading awareness and controlling what kids are taught in school, what people see on television and in the news, one would think there would be more concern. Alas, no. So sad.

VP Who Likes To Be Gropey Threatens Hypothetical Violence Against Trump

Just Joe “Get A Shotgun” Biden being Biden(?)

(Fox News) Vice President Joe Biden said Friday that he wished he could physically confront Republican nominee Donald Trump over lewd comments the real estate mogul made about women that were captured on tape in 2005.

“The press always asks me don’t I wish I were debating him,” Biden, 73, said of the 70-year-old Trump. “No, I wish we were in high school—I could take him behind the gym. That’s what I wish.”

This guy. Just imagine the outrage and apoplectic opinion pieces and hyperventilation from news personalities had this been said in the reverse.

“What he says he did and does is the textbook definition of sexual assault,” Biden said. “It’s more than that. He said because I’m famous, because I’m a star, because I’m a billionaire, I can do things other people can’t. What a disgusting assertion for anyone to make.”

Interesting. I wonder if Joe was thinking about Hillary getting away with things that the little people can’t, namely, her whole email server fiasco. I wonder if Joe was thinking about this

10 Times Joe Biden Has Touched People Against Their Will

Pretty rich for a guy like Uncle Joe Biden to come out and say that Donald Trump’s locker room talk about groping women amounts to “sexual assault.”

“The words are demeaning. Such behavior is an abuse of power. It’s not lewd. It’s sexual assault,” Biden said in a tweet Saturday afternoon.

Well if words about groping amount to sexual assault, then what does a history of actually touching women who clearly don’t want to be touched amount to?

Here’s a pictorial history of Joe Biden aka Sir Gropes-a-Lot …

Joe just loves touching people who don’t seem to want to be touched. As Gawker noted

Maybe he’s just a very warm man. Maybe he’s more affectionate than almost all other adults. But ask yourself this: if this were any other male politician, would we be so quick to add it to the meme pile? Try this: look at all of those photos and imagine, say, Paul Ryan’s face instead of Biden’s.

Some people are touchy. We all know people like that. The person who keeps touching you while talking to you. They don’t mean anything by it. The person who gets huggy. They don’t mean anything by it. I can’t stand bro-hugs, and try and forestall them with a hand out for a fist bump. I don’t like people touching me. But, I don’t think it’s sexual assault. Just annoying. Both Joe and Trump seem to be the touchy kind of people.

Yet, we have Biden on tape and in photos touching and kissing people. Almost nothing on Trump. Why are liberals not slamming Biden?

And, imagine Trump made a comment about wanting to beat up Biden in high school. How would that go?

Man Who Ignores Will Of The People Upset That Trump Might Do Same

Yeah, so this happened during Obama’s speech in Miami Gardens. Listen near the end

(this is at the 32 minute mark of the overall speech) No, no, no, I want everybody to pay attention here. That is dangerous. Because when you try to sow the seeds of doubt in people’s minds about the legitimacy of our elections, that undermines our democracy. Then you’re doing the work of our adversaries for them. Because our democracy depends on people knowing that their vote matters; that those who occupy the seats of power were chosen by the people. Even when your preferred candidate loses, even when you are the one who is running and you lose, you’ve got to see the bigger picture and say that here in America, we believe in democracy, and we accept the will of the people. (Applause.)

Interesting. This is coming from a man that utterly ignored the will of the people when it came to Obamacare, when the People said “no, we’re not interested, do not pass this.”

He ignored the will of the people when it came to the Iran deal. He ignored the will of the people when they rebuffed him and his Democratic Party cronies and voted the GOP back into the House with an historic blowout. Nor when the GOP regained the Senate. When he issues executive orders that thwart the established law. He has stepped on the will of the people throughout his 2 terms, and he dares lecture Trump? Perhaps he should retroactively lecture Al Gore. And Hillary Clinton, for her history of questioning Bush’s election in 2000.
