Surprise: Warmists Suddenly Find Computer Model From Almost 30 Ago That Is Totally Awesome

Of course they did. Strange how they weren’t telling us about this earlier

(UK Independent) Nearly 30 years ago, scientists developed a computer model of the Earth’s climate that predicted the level of global warming – to the ridicule of ‘sceptics’ at a time when there still seemed to be a debate over the issue.

Now two leading researchers have compared the model’s results with what actually happened over the last three decades and, to their surprise, found they were “very similar”. (snip)

Writing in the journal Nature Climate Change, Dr Ronald Stouffer, head of the climate and ecosystem group at Princeton University, and Dr Syukuro Manabe, a senior meteorologist at the same US college, said they had not expected the model to be so accurate.

The model is strictly looking at what can happen from CO2, and ignores natural processes like volcanoes, solar forcing, and other things like man made aerosols. It includes areas that would have had not true hard data for temperature, and wouldn’t have seen satellite cover early on.

That said, it is interesting that it suddenly pops up on the radar.

And, perhaps it is a good model. The vast majority of models are failures, having failed to account for the statistically insignificant warming since 1998. Perhaps this model continues to perform. The authors, though, do a good job at the end of their short paper in hedging their bets, stating that more research needs to be done. They seem to be more interested in the science, rather than advocacy.

The advocacy is apparent in the media articles on the paper, of course.

Trump Budget Calls For Ending Lots Of ‘Climate Change’ Programs

It’s time to stop wasting The People’s money on worthless program based on junk science

(Daily Caller)  The White House is pushing for significant cuts to EPA programs and staff levels, giving a glimpse of how the Trump administration plans on devolving more control to the states.

The budget plan sent from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to EPA leadership calls for eliminating dozens of programs, including at least 16 that have to do with global warming and implementing former President Barack Obama’s climate agenda.

On the chopping block, at least for the moment, as the number of programs rise, are these ones

  • Alaska Native Villages
  • Beach and Fish programs
  • Brownfield projects
  • Clean Power Plan implementation
  • Climate Voluntary partnership programs‹there are 14 separate ones
  • Diesel Emissions Reduction Act
  • Endocrine grants
  • Energy star grants
  • Environmental education
  • Environmental justice
  • Geographical programs for lake [Champlain], L.I. Sound, S.F. Bay and South Florida
  • Global Change Research
  • Mexico Border grants
  • Multi-purpose grants
  • Office of Public Engagement
  • RadonStar
  • Research grants
  • Small minority businesses
  • State indoor radon
  • Targeted air shed grants
  • U.S. Mexico Border
  • Water Sense

Most of these are already handled at the state levels and/or within other federal agencies. Much is repetitive. Many are just useless, especially the ‘climate change’ ones. Good to see we’re going to see some common sense in government. This is what happens when you have a businessman looking at spending from a private sector point of view, rather than a governmental “meh, it’s Someone Else’s money” POV.

DOJ Withdraws Appeal Of Obama’s Transgender School Order

Back in 2016, the Obama administration decided that it would be a great idea to blackmail schools into allowing the tiny number of kids who are gender confused to use the bathrooms, showers, and locker rooms (BSL) of their choice, as matches their so-called gender identity. This flew smack dab in the face of that thing called “biology” and “science”. If the schools didn’t follow the guidance, they could have lost federal funding. Because to hell with the kids who understand which BSL to use based on whether they are a pointer or a sitter. Thirteen states sued, and a federal judge put a hold on the guidance. Now

13 states, DOJ reach settlement in litigation over transgender student rights

The state of Texas and the Justice Department appear to have reached a settlement of a multi-state federal lawsuit over transgender student rights, according to a new filing with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit.

Thirteen states, led by Texas, are expected to drop a suit they filed against the Obama administration last year after it released a directive saying that Title IX — a federal law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in federally funded education programs — protects against gender-identity discrimination. Former President Barack Obama’s Education and Justice departments told schools they must allow transgender students to use bathrooms and locker rooms consistent with their gender identities, and threatened withdrawal of education funds for those that did not comply with the non-binding guidance. The directive prompted nearly half of the states to sue. (sue)

And last week the Trump administration moved to rescind Obama’s directive entirely — and without it, the states and DOJ have nothing to fight about. In the filing Thursday, the Justice Department said it’s withdrawing the appeal of the nationwide ban, and the states indicated they’ll soon withdraw their suit.

The Trump guidance leaves it up to the states and school districts to decide what policy they want if they have a gender confused person at their school. Choice. Liberals like choice, don’t they? Not in this case. Liberals were very upset that they would be given the option, rather than having the federal government make it for everyone. Which is one of the reasons Trump won the majority of states, especially in the South and Heartland: people are tired of weenies in Washington making pronouncements that are idiotic and force that idiocy down their throats.

NY Times Tells Cities To Violate Federal Law And Be Sanctuaries For Illegal Aliens,

Lawrence Downes is a long time member of the NY Times Editorial Board, whose focus is on immigration. One would think that he is aware of federal statues against sheltering people who are unlawfully present in the United States, and that federal immigration law takes precedence over state and local law. Yet, we get this bit of insanity, which tells other cities and states to follow the example of Santa Clara, Ca., and be sanctuary cities

A ‘Sanctuary City’ Seizes the Moment, and the Name

Cities of immigrants, it’s time. Time to declare yourselves sanctuaries. To wear the label proudly, defiantly, even if the White House and its allies threaten you and utter all kinds of falsehoods against you.

President Trump is in power; his nativist ideology is now fully armed and operational. He laid it out with alarming clarity in his “America first” address to Congress this week, painting unauthorized immigrants as vicious criminals, and refugees as dangerous undesirables, using both groups as scapegoats and targets. The homeland security secretary, John Kelly, has given his boss a battle plan. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Border Patrol are carrying it out, combing the country, seizing and terrifying the innocent.

If they’re “unauthorized”, that means they’re in the country illegally. Which means they shouldn’t be here. Which means they should be fearful, because they aren’t innocent. And a high ranking member of the NYTEB just proclaimed, in print, that cities should violate federal immigration law.

Now comes the typical lies and distortions

The sweeps, arrests and intimidation share a brutal randomness. A young “Dreamer” gives a news conference after her father and brother are detained — and is arrested herself. ICE stakes out a courthouse to grab a survivor of domestic violence. Border agents ask a planeload of passengers — on a domestic flight — to show their papers.

We still aren’t 100% sure why the first, Daniela Vargas, was detained, other than she allowed her DACA to lapse back in November, and, after a raid which saw her brother and father detained, an illegal handgun was found in the house.

The survivor of domestic violence? Ervin Gonzalez is a criminal absconder, having been deported six times and coming back illegally. Those deportations were for crimes including possession of stolen mail, false imprisonment and assault.

Border Agents were looking for a known criminal who was unlawfully present, and doing their jobs.

Is it any wonder the citizens distrust the media, when a screed like the above is published without the requisite information?

Many people are confused by the term “sanctuary city,” which has no strict definition. Mr. Trump uses it as an epithet to mean immigrant-loving communities that allow alien criminals to roam free. Used that way, the label is false; no city can suspend the rule of law or keep out the feds. But rather than tolerating such slander, cities should seize back the term, defining sanctuaries as places that stand for reason in the face of overreaching, unjust and often lawless federal enforcement.

They should do what Santa Ana, Calif., has done. It is a city of 335,000, in the heart of Orange County, whose City Council has passed one of the boldest and most far-reaching sanctuary ordinances in the state. In a county that has long been known as a haven of white Republicans, Santa Ana is a mixed-race, mixed-income, All-American town. Its population is about 46 percent immigrant, and its mayor and its six City Council members are all Latino.

The rest continues in the same vein: essentially, Downes recommends violations of federal law.

Warmists Trot Out Doctored Photo For Scary Story

Yesterday, I showed you how a story on Christian Warmists praying about ‘climate change’ for Lent used a doctored photo. Now we get this via Watts Up With That?

MSN appears to be a source of climate fear mongering and “fake climate news” based on their story under the headlines Antarctica hits record high temperature at balmy 63.5°F .

The story was accompanied by what can only be a horribly photo-shopped photograph for the unassuming warmunista of a mushroom-shaped ice form teetering on a rocky outcrop.

Here’s that photo

Supposedly it was photographed on the opposite side of the continent from which the record temperature occurred. Climbing such a structure would be a difficult technical climb for an experienced mountaineer. Furthermore when Adele penguins come ashore to breed they avoid the ice if possible, only crossing snowfields as the seek ice-free breeding territories. Lastly if you magnify the picture 500%, the penguins become extremely pixilated, the ice chunk less so, and the background rocks even less so, a fingerprint of 3 different photographs with different resolution that have been overlain.

In fact, the photo was taken “on a rocky shoreline at Cape Denison, Commonwealth Bay, in East Antarctica, on Jan. 1, 2010.” Seriously, how did the penguins get up there? The shadows to the right are wrong. Where’s the wetness from the melting ice? The penguins look like they’re actually about to dive into the water. Photoshop software shows lots of artifacts that do not belong. It really does look like 3 different photos put together.

Totally New Idea: Sell ‘Climate Change’ To Skeptics By Changing The Wording

Conservatives are willing to combat climate change — when it’s not called “climate change”
Conservatives have a kneejerk reactions to the phrase, so environmentalists are finding ways to reframe the issue

The grim fact of the matter is that we cannot count on the federal government to step up efforts to deal with climate change, for the next four years at least. So some scientists are turning hopefully towards leaders in local governments, hoping they can use what power they have to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate the damage already being created by global warming.

The problem is that many communities have conservative populations that, for ideological reasons, refuse to accept that climate change is real, and as such will resist local leaders who attempt interventions that appear to be rooted in an acceptance of the scientific facts. But there may be a way to get conservative constituents to agree to actions to address climate change: Package the policies using other terms.

As Rebecca J. Romsdahl, an environmental science and policy professor at the University of North Dakota, and her team of researchers have discovered, that’s what a number of local leaders are already doing. In 2013 and 2014, Romsdahl and her colleagues published findings from a survey of local leaders in the Great Plains states in the Journal of Environmental Studies and Sciences and Review of Policy Research that found that many local leaders are framing their climate change policies under banners like “sustainability” or “energy savings,” instead of invoking a concept that rings too many alarm bells.

Personally, I have no problem with energy savings and sustainability, as long as they are not forced on me by government decree. As long as they are not artificially increasing my cost of living. As long as they are not creating problems, like, say, catching my yard on fire

Energy-efficient windows blamed for starting fires

Investigators told Nancy Monda that the first fire at her Davie County home appeared to be arson.

Monda’s security cameras filmed the yard smoking at first, then the flames appeared. The fire raced across her yard and surrounded a propane tank.

Two days later, another fire started in the same spot.

Investigators came back and poked around the property. This time, though, one of them felt a clue: sunlight reflecting off a neighbor’s brand new, energy-efficient window.

The firefighter’s report describes the reflection as so intense that a person couldn’t hold his hand in the light for more than 30 seconds before it felt like it was burning.

This happened four times in a week. The same thing has happened in many other places. The windows, called Low E windows, were required by law in North Carolina, until the NC Building Code Council approved a temporary ruling to no longer require their usage until the fire issue could be resolved. So far, no solution has been found, other than not using these types of windows, which are mandate in many, many cities and states across the nation. Which can cause fires, melt siding and plastic parts on cars. Government requirements at their best.

Illegal Alien Demands Pathway To Citizenship, ICE Arrests Her Shortly After

(Clarion Ledger) Moments after an immigrant spoke out about her fears of deportation, she was detained by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

Daniela Vargas, 22, was detained by ICE agents Wednesday morning, shortly after speaking at a news conference in downtown Jackson, according to her attorney, Abby Peterson. (snip)

Vargas was 7 years old when her family came to America from Argentina, placing her under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, immigration policy. Under the policy, DACA recipients have to reapply every two years. Vargas’ DACA is expired but her renewal application is pending.

Peterson said she told agents via telephone Vargas had a pending DACA case. However, agents reportedly told Peterson that Vargas was a “visa overstay” and will be detained.

Vargas has no bond and is in ICE detention.

Her father and brother were detained in mid-February, but, she was not. There was a report of a handgun present in the home, which, surprise surprise, is a felony, since those unlawfully present in the U.S. are forbidden to have any guns.

Essentially, she was out there giving a speech demanding that she and the other Dreamers be given legal status. After failing to reapply for DACA status on time. ICE has stated that this was a targeted detainment, so, all those leftist media outlets freaking out might end up with egg on their face when the information on “why” comes out. Funny, ICE isn’t given credit by the media for things like this

And, a bit to the east of Raleigh, ICE targeted another illegal alien, for which “ICE officials stressed that this action was “not a standard immigration action” and was part of a larger federal investigation.”

Suddenly, Trump Reading From A Teleprompter Is A Bad Thing

For eight years, we were treated to the Greatest Orator Ever!!!!! speaking from a teleprompter. Conservatives even came up with a name for Obama’s teleprompter: TOTUS. Teleprompter Of The United States. And discussed TOTUS as if it were alive. There were lots of jokes about this, most in jest, some nasty. Because, when it came down to it, Obama was barely able to speak in Adult without TOTUS.

Now, let’s be honest: for all the jokes about Obama speaking with TOTUS, the man gave great speeches using TOTUS. No one on the right really thinks poorly of Obama for using teleprompters to give speeches, because so many politicians do, at least on longer ones. But, get this

First as a candidate, and now as president, Donald Trump has drawn fire for promising the moon and stars without giving the slightest hint of how he intended to obtain them. In fact, as Tuesday night’s speech to Congress demonstrated so clearly, the president is actually a master of the art of diminished expectations.

On Tuesday night, we are told, he looked sober and presidential, when all he actually did was read a speech from a Teleprompter without veering off into one of his incoherent rants. It’s hard to believe that even the ill-disciplined and narcissistic Trump would have stood in the well of the House of Representatives and tried to lead a chant of “lock her up” or slapped journalists with the “enemy of the people” label that has been a favorite of dictators for more than a century.

That’s right, Trump is being slammed for just reading a speech from a Teleprompter. If you want incoherence, how about Obama unable to make his remarks because the teleprompter wasn’t programed? He was handed the speech, and still didn’t give it.

We’ve already had the media whining about Trump playing golf, something they never bothered with when Obama was in office. Now, the teleprompter. I can’t wait to see what other hypocrisy they drop on us.
