The Nation: Know What’s Worse Than Chemical Weapons Used On Children? Carbon Pollution!

Salon: no one can touch our crazy piece on Trump’s post chemical weapon bombing.

The Nation: hold our fancy pants wine glass. (via Twitchy)

Here’s Excitable Juan Cole’s insanity

The gas attack in Syria on April 4 consumed the world’s attention and galvanized the Trump White House, leading to the launch of 59 cruise missiles on a small airport from which the regime of Bashar al-Assad has been bombing the fundamentalist rebels in Idlib Province. The pictures of suffering children, Trump said, had touched him. Yet the president and most of his party are committed to increasing the daily release of hundreds of thousands of tons of a far more deadly gas. And that is carbon dioxide. Climate scientist James Hansen has described our current emissions as like setting off 400,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs each day, every day of the year.

The screed really doesn’t get any better after that first paragraph. Cole attempts to lay the blame, or at least link, the ongoing war and refugee crisis to Mankind’s output of CO2. And that the CO2 is causing all sorts of problems around the Middle East, and, shockingly, causing drought in an area that is known to be rather hot and desert-like. Props to Cole, though, for at least consistently referring to it as CO2, rather than the un-scientific “carbon pollution”.

The crazy continues, ending with

As Representative Keith Ellison has pointed out, some two-thirds of Syrian refugees are women and children, and fully one-third of them are under the age of 12. The world was shocked in September 2015, at the image of little Aylan Kurdi washed up on a Turkish beach, having failed to make it to a Greek island. Aylan was a Syrian refugee, not only from war, but from climate change. Trump and the climate-destroyers he brought into office with him such as Rex Tillerson and Scott Pruitt are not driven by compassion for victims. They are animated by a callous and rapacious search for profits for themselves and their cronies. If they cared about children killed by noxious gases, they wouldn’t want to ban Syrian refugees like the Kurdis from the United States. Nor would they want to spew ever more tons of the most noxious gas of all into the blue skies of the only planetary home the human race has.

Noxious! Plants, trees, bushes, and plankton I interviewed all said “preposterous!”

USA Today Runs Big Story On DREAMer Getting Deported, Gets It Wrong

USA Today writers Alan Gomez and David Agren thought they had a Big Scoop regarding the Evil Trump Administration deporting a DREAMer, with the breathless headline

First protected DREAMer is deported under Trump

Of course, their little update, down near the end of the story, rather destroys their narrative

(Daily Caller) USA Today reported Tuesday that an illegal immigrant protected by Barack Obama’s amnesty was deported in February after spending an evening with his girlfriend. However, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman told The Daily Caller that this story is false because Juan Manuel Montes Bojorquez did not receive amnesty and was caught climbing over a border fence when he was detained.

The USA Today story said that Bojorquez, 23, was apprehended by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents while he was waiting for a car ride to pick him up.

According to the article, he told the officers he left his wallet in his friend’s car and because he didn’t have his ID or proof of his Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status, he was deported.

“Within three hours, he was back in Mexico, becoming the first undocumented immigrant with active DACA status deported by the Trump administration’s stepped-up deportation policy,” the USA Today reporters wrote.

He may have been a DACA recipient at one point, but

David Lapan, a DHS spokesman, told TheDC, “Juan Manuel Montes Bojorquez was apprehended by the Calexico Station Border Patrol after illegally entering the U.S. by climbing over the fence in downtown Calexico. He was arrested by BP just minutes after he made his illegal entry and admitted under oath during the arrest interview that he had entered illegally.”

The spokesman added, “His DACA status expired in Aug. 2015 and he was notified at that time. In addition, he has a conviction for theft for which he received probation.”

USA Today states that he received a DACA renewal in 2026. Obviously, they’re wrong. And they sure seem to be quite accepting over Juan’s 4 convictions, one for shoplifting and three for driving without a license. I guess he’s just part of the “non-criminal” element among illegal aliens, right? This, of course, sent leftists into apoplexy

This incorrect story from USA Today received a swift reaction on Twitter. Sean McElwee, a policy analyst at Demos Action, said it was “absolutely horrifying.” MSNBC host Christopher Hayes said, “This is profoundly messed up.” Gizmodo staff writer Libby Watson tweeted, “the lack of due process and basic decency for immigrants is really astounding. can’t be covered enough.”

What USA Today is now trying to claim is that Juan was picked up and dropped off across the border in Mexicali. After friends brought him his wallet and clothes, he was supposedly mugged, then proceeded to climb a rope going over the border wall, where he was caught again. DHS disputes him being deported the first time he states he was, only being caught climbing over the wall. Most people read the first 3 paragraphs or 30 seconds when it comes to web articles, so, they wouldn’t make it to DHS disputing, being the 4th to last paragraph.

You have The Hill, New York Magazine, Mediaite, NBC News, The Guardian, New York Times, and so many other news outlets having hissy fits about this.

The Hill runs a similar story with the headline Report: First protected ‘Dreamer’ deported under Trump. The headline is disputed by the actual content of the story, but, hey, the point is to be clickbait. It’s all about slamming Trump.

Bummer: Seas Could Continue Doom Rise Even Without More Warming

Interesting. After almost two decades of statistically insignificant warming, which utterly negated the majority of Warmist computer models, we now have another prophesy of doom

Sea levels may rise even without further warming
It may take centuries to reach peak water levels given what past records show us

Wait, past records? So, this has happened before? What caused it back then, and why can’t the reasons be the same during the Modern Warm Period?

Seventy per cent of the Earth is covered by water and three quarters of the world’s great cities are on the coast. Ever-rising sea levels pose a real threat to more than a billion people living beside the sea. As the climate warms, this is becoming a greater threat every year.

As I’ve noted ad nauseum, the current sea rise is exactly average. The 20th Century was at 7 inches. The average since the end of the great pulsewater melt is 6-8 inches per century. A warm period should see much higher than 7 inches.

How do we measure sea level? It is not so simple: the sea surface is a moving target, rising and falling with the tides and weather. Ocean currents are dynamically linked to sea surface topography and changes in currents and water density result in sea level changes.

If it’s not so easy, then how are Warmists prognosticating anywhere from 3 feet by 2100 to 6 feet, some even yammering about 40 feet or more?

Andrew Parnell of the School of Mathematics and Statistics UCD is a co-author of a recent paper in the world-renowned journal Science that describes a reconstruction of temperature patterns during the last interglacial period, about 120,000 years ago. The temperature estimates are similar to today, but sea levels during this period were 6-9m higher than present levels.

This is worrying, as it indicates that global warming may lead to a continuing rise in water level. We may be committed to substantial sea level rise over the coming decades even if there is no further warming of the atmosphere.

This brief bit of info in the final two paragraphs doesn’t quite bear out the doomy prognostication of the headline and first paragraph, but, um, yeah, they’re saying it might maybe possibly we’re not sure but we need to scare you more come to pass a 19.685 feet to 29.5276 feet rise in the seas, obviously because of Mankind’s carbon pollution.

Climate Science Scammers Are Totally Fighting Back Against Trump Or Something

In the runnup to the big climate march in D.C. on the 24th, which has already turned into a massive hotbed of typically Leftist memes, along with infighting about things such as “is Bill Nye the Science Guy too White?”, you can expect many more screes such as this from Union Of Concerned Scientists’ president Kenneth Kimmell

Why scientists are fighting back. We’ve had enough of Trump’s war on facts

Next Saturday, in Washington, DC, and in hundreds of rallies around the world, scientists and their supporters will stage what is likely to be the largest gathering of its kind in history. The March for Science, an idea hatched by a few enthusiastic people on Reddit, has mobilised scientists and their supporters as never before.

As a colleague observed: “You know you’re in trouble when scientists take to the streets.” He’s right. I’ve worked closely with scientists for decades and, by training and temperament, they tend to be happiest in the lab, testing and retesting experiment results – among the last groups of people you might expect to find protesting.

So, why are they grabbing placards now? Because an unprecedented attack on science, scientists and evidence-based policymaking is underway in the US federal government.

Because Trump is pulling their taxpayer sponsored funding for their failed and highly political research. That’s why.

Nowhere is the attack more ferocious than on the issue of global warming, where the Trump administration has taken a wrecking ball to the modest but important policies put in place by President Obama. First among them is the Obama administration’s signature Clean Power Plan, the nation’s first-ever limit on carbon dioxide emissions from power plants, which Trump has vowed to repeal. He has also pledged to “reopen” (which could well mean “weaken”) hard-won vehicle fuel economy standards that have already begun lowering carbon emissions and oil consumption. Meanwhile, in a tragic example of wilful blindness, Trump has abolished a rule requiring federal agencies to consider how large federal projects affect climate change and how climate impacts, such as sea level rises and drought, might affect the long-term viability of the projects themselves. This is akin to erecting a building on a fault zone without considering earthquakes.

Obama, huh?

https://twitter.com/Carlos_S01/status/854101883518156800

My organisation, the Union of Concerned Scientists, with its more than 500,000 members and supporters, has joined with allies from the climate, environmental justice and labour movements to help organise both the March for Science and the People’s Climate March.

As the demonstrations are likely to show, an enormous number of people understand what is stake. The greatest attack on science in memory may wind up spurring the greatest mobilisation of scientists, and allies far and wide, we have ever seen.

Which leads to this from the official Twitter of the climateScam march

And that article is all about purchasing climate offsets, a nice little scam that allows members of the Cult of Climastrology to not practice what they preach.

Because walking the talk would be inconvenient, and, of course, this all has nothing to do with science.

Bummer: Arrests Of Illegal Aliens With No Criminal Records Doubles Under Trump

According to Merriam-Webster

Illegal – not according to or authorized by law : unlawful, illicit;

According to the Washington Post

Immigration arrests rose 32.6 percent in the first weeks of the Trump administration, with newly empowered federal agents intensifying their pursuit of not just undocumented immigrants with criminal records, but also thousands of illegal immigrants who have been otherwise law-abiding.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 21,362 immigrants, mostly convicted criminals, from January through mid-March, compared to 16,104 during the same period last year, according to statistics requested by The Washington Post.

Arrests of immigrants with no criminal records more than doubled to 5,441, the clearest sign yet that President Trump has ditched his predecessor’s protective stance toward most of the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States.

Otherwise law abiding, except for the part of being in the United States against the law.

Advocates for immigrants say the unbridled enforcement has led to a sharp drop in reports from Latinos of sexual assaults and other crimes in Houston and Los Angeles, and terrified immigrant communities across the United States. A prosecutor said the presence of immigration agents in state and local courthouses, which advocates say has increased under the Trump administration, makes it harder to prosecute crime.

And well they should be terrified, as they are unlawfully present. They are not authorized by law to be here. People engaged in breaking the law should be fearful.

“My sense is that ICE is emboldened in a way that I have never seen,” Dan Satterberg, the top prosecutor in Washington state’s King County, which includes Seattle, said Thursday. “The federal government, in really just a couple of months, has undone decades of work that we have done to build this trust.”

And right there is a major problem: a duly sworn member of the Justice system, tasked with upholding and enforcing The Law, is ignoring the law in order to coddle illegal aliens. Heck, King County has authorized the use of $750,000 in taxpayer money that was left-over from 2016 to help protect illegal aliens.

In January, he issued executive orders that made all undocumented immigrants at risk of deportation. In February, Trump’s press secretary said the “shackles” were off immigration and border agents, whose unions backed Trump in the election.

“I think the instruction is, ‘Go about your business in terms of apprehending immigrants,” said Joanne Lin, senior legislative counsel with the ACLU. “It’s wherever they can find them.”

Well, yes, that is the job of ICE, and federal government, to catch and deport anyone who is unlawfully present in the U.S. Why is that so hard to understand?

Trump’s Juggling The Foreign Policy Balls Obama Dropped

If you’ll remember back to 2009-2012, Barack Obama spent quite a bit of time Blaming Bush on a constant basis, for which the rest of the Democrats and their compliant media cheerily agreed, and helped propagate. Interestingly, the same media mostly fails to note all the problems left behind by Mr. Obama, ones he created

Trump juggles the foreign policy balls Obama dropped

The Trump administration is taking heat for striking a Syrian air base with Tomahawk missiles and hitting ISIS terrorists in Afghanistan with a MOAB, a conventional bomb so big that it has been dubbed the “Mother of All Bombs.” No doubt there are useful debates to be had about the pros and cons, both tactical and juridical. But one sure upside of these strikes is that they are a step toward restoring abroad the credibility of America as a power to be reckoned with.

That’s big, in ways that go way beyond the immediate battlefields. In a world grown dramatically more dangerous during President Obama’s eight years of appeasement and retreat, America badly and urgently needs to restore its lost credibility.

It would be great if diplomats could protect America, its allies and its interests with words alone. But in matters involving aggressive tyrannies, words don’t mean much unless they are backed up by military muscle and the credible willingness to use force. When that threat goes missing, predators take notice.

What? You mean a strongly worded letter, a reset button, and hashtags with signs and sad faces do not work? Huh.

It’s also clear that when America backs down, the threats tend to compound. Predatory regimes tend to do business together, observe each other and learn from each other. When Russia snatches turf from a neighbor and gets away with it, that sends a message to China.

Beijing, with its interest in building artificial islands topped with military bases in the South China Sea, can see that it’s open season in Asia for accelerating such territorial grabs. When North Korea conducts an illicit nuclear test and gets away with it, we can reasonably assume that Iran takes note.

For the world’s most dangerously ambitious and threatening tyrannies — from Russia to China, from North Korea to Iran — Obama’s neutering of American power over the past eight years created a host of opportunities that they eagerly seized. The sorry truth, given the character of these regimes, is that they would have been fools not to.

We had the failed “red lines”, strikes that would be “unbelievably small” that never happened, outsourcing the protection of Syrian civilians to Russia, blowing off the Arab Spring and Green Uprising in Iran, crafting a deal that will see Iran flush with cash and able to restart its quest for nuclear weapons in around 10 years, blowing off Poland on missile defense, Russia taking Crimea, calling ISIS the JV team, and so much more.

All this is part of the Obama legacy: the rising global agglomerate of emboldened tyrannies, with which Trump must now deal. Call it the Axis of Opportunism. To this scene, we must also factor in the jihadi non-state outfits which over the past eight years have made the most of the vacuums created by Obama’s various retreats. These include al Qaeda and the Taliban, both still going concerns; ISIS, which thrived when Obama withdrew U.S. troops from Iraq and for too long dismissed the dangers; and the terrorist-infested misery of today’s Libya, where Obama led from behind.

This is all left to President Trump. What does he do? Coddling and hashtags while leading from behind sure hasn’t worked. Does belligerence and strength work? Will Trump enforce “peace through strength”? Time will tell.

Good Grief: U of Wisconsin-Madison To Have Free Tampons In Men’s Bathrooms

Social Justice Warrioring on steroids (or, should that be estrogen?)

(College Fix) The University of Wisconsin-Madison is rolling out a new pilot program to provide free menstrual products in several of its campus bathrooms — including some men’s restrooms.

The public university will offer the women’s hygiene products in three campus buildings. In two of them, Helen C. White and Sterling halls, the products will be available in all of the women’s restrooms, said Steve Wagner, a spokesman for the school, in an email to The College Fix.

But in a third venue, the Red Gym, the products will be available in all of the building’s bathrooms, he said.

Asked why women’s hygiene products are needed inside men’s bathrooms, Wagner said: “Menstrual products will be available in all of the bathrooms of the Red Gym so that they are available to any student who might need them.”

Can you guess what’s coming?

It appears the products are needed in men’s bathrooms to benefit transgender males (biological women who identify as male).

Sigh. Oh, and they were originally called “women’s hygiene products” in the Badger Herald, which then clarified with an update to calling them “menstrual products.” Refer back to John Cusack.

Good News: We Have Just 10 Years To Save The Planet From ‘Climate Change’ (Again)

Because all the other time frames to save Gaia from minuscule increases Warmists say is caused by Mankind’s output of carbon pollution have failed (along with all their other predictions), it’s time for another

(Breitbart) In the latest in radical climate doomsaying, a new report warns that fossil fuel consumption will need to be reduced “below a quarter of primary energy supply by 2100” to avoid possibly disastrous effects on global temperatures.

In their report, titled “Pathways for balancing CO2 emissions and sinks,” a team of eight scientists warns that “anthropogenic emissions need to peak within the next 10 years, to maintain realistic pathways to meeting the COP21 emissions and warming targets.”

The statement was immediately repackaged by environmentalists to read: “Scientists say we have ten years to save the earth.”

As is always the case in studies of this sort, the scientists juggle dozens of variables, none of which is entirely predictable and which taken together tell us virtually nothing about the future of the environment.

Doesn’t matter. Warmists have their marching orders, irregardless of all the previous failed prognostications of doom in 10 years (there are plenty more to list), doom in 500 days, the Arctic is doomed in this year and that year and the other year, and so forth. Heck, some say we don’t even have 10 years till humans are extinct from AGW.
