Bummer: Arrests Of “Non-criminal” Illegal Aliens Doubles Under Trump

What a shame, ICE has had their political shackles taken off and have been allowed to do their jobs in arresting people who are in violation of duly passed federal law. This has given the Washington Post a sad

ICE arrests of ‘noncriminal’ immigrants double under Trump

(the web front page had the above headline. In the story it reads “Trump takes ‘shackles’ off ICE, which is slapping them on immigrants who thought they were safe”)

A week after he won the election, President Trump promised that his administration would round up millions of immigrant gang members and drug dealers. And after he took office, arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers surged 40 percent.

Officials at the agency commonly known as ICE praise Trump for putting teeth back into immigration enforcement, and they say their agency continues to prioritize national security threats and violent criminals, much as the Obama administration did.

But as ICE officers get wider latitude to determine whom they detain, the biggest jump in arrests has been of immigrants with no criminal convictions. The agency made 37,734 “noncriminal” arrests in the government’s 2017 fiscal year, more than twice the number in the previous year. The category includes suspects facing possible charges as well as those without criminal records.

Arrests of those with criminal histories has not gone down during this period. It has gone slightly up. But, hey, unnamed critics have issues

Critics say ICE is increasingly grabbing at the lowest-hanging fruit of deportation-eligible immigrants to meet the president’s unrealistic goals, replacing a targeted system with a scattershot approach aimed at boosting the agency’s enforcement statistics.

Or, they could simply be arresting illegal aliens when they catch them. Quite a few of them are illegals who were already ordered deported years ago by federal judges after exhausting the legal system. Many were ordered deported during Obama’s years.

A Virginia mother was sent back to El Salvador in June after her 11 years in the United States unraveled because of a traffic stop. A Connecticut man with an American-born wife and children and no criminal record was deported to Guatemala last week. And an immigration activist in New York, Ravi Ragbir, was detained in January in a case that brought ICE a scathing rebuke from a federal judge.

“It ought not to be — and it has never before been — that those who have lived without incident in this country for years are subjected to treatment we associate with regimes we revile as unjust,” said U.S. District Judge Katherine B. Forrest, reading her opinion in court before ordering ICE to release Ragbir.

“We are not that country,” she said.

Perhaps Judge Forrest should take a gander at federal statutes and use them as the basis of her judgements, rather than her feelings. Because each of those people are unlawfully present per federal law as passed by the Legislative Branch and signed into law by the Executive Branch head.

Here’s the money line

Immigrants whose only crime was living in the country illegally were largely left alone during the latter years of the Obama administration. But that policy has been scrapped.

The Washington Post just admitted that they are living in the country illegally. What more needs to be said? You can bet that all the people who support these law breakers would be rather upset if people were living illegally in their homes or on their properties, even if they had committed no other crimes. They’d be calling the police to have the squatters removed.

“As someone who has practiced law for 20-plus years, I find strange the idea the longer you get away with a violation, the less stiff the punishment should be, and that your continued violation of the law is basis for the argument that you shouldn’t suffer the consequences of that violation,” said Matthew O’Brien, director of research at the Federation for American Immigration Reform, or FAIR, which backs Trump’s approach.

So many of those who are being picked up and having the media be all sympathetic have been here a long time. They’ve gamed the system and run through all legal options, and been ordered deported. It’s really simple.

Losing A Coin Toss Mirrors Black Experience Beyond Olympics Or Something

Is there anything more equal than flipping a coin? Perhaps rock paper scissors. Or maybe doing eenie meenie miny moe for a big group. Regardless, some people are still having a hissy fit over Shani Davis losing a coin toss, as we get this wacky screed from Errin Haines Whack at the Chicago Tribune (which features a photo gallery of Chicago Olympians before the fable, and the first picture is of a White woman, Kendall Coyne)

Coin toss mirrors black experience beyond Olympics

Shani Davis made history in 2006 when he became the first black athlete to win an individual gold medal at a Winter Olympics and the winningest man in American speedskating. So when the speedskater tweeted his outrage after losing the opportunity to represent Team USA as its flagbearer in Friday night’s opening ceremony, his #blackhistorymonth hashtag served as a kind of racial shorthand. (Davis has set his Twitter account to private)

And it resonated with African-Americans far beyond sports.

For them, it was a familiar scenario: Despite being exceptional in a field dominated by whites, he was bypassed for a job he deserved. What’s more, when he pointed that out, he was shouted down as an ungrateful distraction.

From celebrities to corporate America, the slight was a reminder of what blacks regularly experience in a white world — a feeling that the game is rigged.

Why did Erin Hamlin not deserve the honor? Perhaps Ms. Wack could explain that. She’s been to the Olympics four times. She’s won medals. She won the coin toss after the nomination process left her and Davis tied. Seems rather racist, and sexist, to say that she doesn’t deserve the honor while Davis, a Black male, does. But, really, how is the game rigged? It was a coin toss. But, for certain people, they always have to play the race card.

Oh, but wait, the coin toss

The coin toss is almost beside the point. That the vote was tied between a bronze medalist and a two-time gold medalist points to an outcome that also included intangibles — among them, likeability and popularity. While a coin cannot be biased, people can — and often, the results of racial bias can sting with unfairness.

So, obviously, the four people who ended up voting for Hamlin were raaaaacist. Or, perhaps, the four who voted for Davis were sexist. We can play this Victimhood game all day. It’s stupid. But, racecarders will be racecarders. And, yes, the screed keeps going racecardy. Because that’s what race hustlers do.

Trump’s Infrastructure May Ignore ‘Climate Change’ Or Something

This has given the NY Times’ resident Alarmist, Coral Davenport, a sad

Trump’s Infrastructure Plan May Ignore Climate Change. It Could Be Costly.

President Trump is expected to unveil on Monday a plan that would fulfill one of his signature campaign promises: a $1.5 trillion, once-in-a-generation proposal to rebuild, restore and modernize the nation’s aging infrastructure.

“We will build gleaming new roads, bridges, highways, railways and waterways all across our land,” Mr. Trump said in his State of the Union address.

But while the proposal represents one of the administration’s main legislative ambitions, it could directly clash with one of its defining regulatory principles, which is to question the risk from global warming and roll back regulations addressing climate change.

The Trump infrastructure blueprint is almost certain to call for expensive new roads, bridges, airports and other projects in areas that are increasingly vulnerable to rising waters and other threats from a warming planet. Engineers and researchers say that construction plans should consider these design constraints at the outset. Their concern is that a plan led by a White House that has both discounted climate science and weakened climate change regulations could mean that costly projects may be vulnerable to damage or, in a worst-case scenario, quickly rendered obsolete by the changing environment.

In other words, some people are upset that the plan won’t line their pockets with sweet, sweet climate cash.

Seriously, this isn’t even news. It’s alarmist propaganda using prognostications of doom hiding a cultish viewpoint espoused by people who refuse to practice what they preach.

Surprise: Island That’s Poster Child For ‘Climate Change’ Doom Actually Grew In Size

It’s always a shame when facts rear up and bit the Cult of Climastrology in the posterior. Don’t expect this news to change their talking points, though

(Frontpage) Tuvalu, like the polar bears, is the poster child for the dire threat of the Flying Global Warming Monster

What Happens When Your Country Drowns? – Mother Jones

Has the era of the ‘climate change refugee’ begun? – Washington Post

Will Tuvalu Disappear Beneath the Sea?  – Smithsonian

Here’s the NOAA write up for brainwashing your kids. One of many Obama era climate hoaxes that needs to be cleaned up by the administration. Because Tuvalu still keeps growing.

The Pacific nation of Tuvalu—long seen as a prime candidate to disappear as climate change forces up sea levels—is actually growing in size, new research shows.

A University of Auckland study examined changes in the geography of Tuvalu’s nine atolls and 101 reef islands between 1971 and 2014, using aerial photographs and satellite imagery.

It found eight of the atolls and almost three-quarters of the islands grew during the study period, lifting Tuvalu’s total land area by 2.9 percent, even though sea levels in the country rose at twice the global average.

Huh. Strange that that can happen. Anthony Watts writes

From the “we told you so,  again, and again” department. We’ve had several articles about the island of Tuvalu and the ridiculous claims of sea level rise causing it to disappear, while at the same time they are building new hotels and airports to attract tourists. Willis has also had several articles on how Pacific atolls grow, and float, rather than sink as sea level advances.

And from the actual measurements, we see (you can start at the beginning data page here)

Not really seeing much in sea rise, eh? Jo Nova writes “The Green Blob is going to have to get rid of satellites. Real data is so inconvenient. “

Surprise: Federal Judge In Los Angeles Finds ICE Detainers Un-Constitutional

Everyone put on a shocked face

(LA Times) A federal judge in Los Angeles has ruled that police departments violate the Constitution if they detain inmates at the request of immigration agents, marking the latest legal setback for the Trump administration’s plans to identify and deport immigrants in the country illegally.

In his order issued Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Andre Birotte Jr. found that a now-defunct policy of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department violated the constitutional rights of inmates who were kept in custody at the behest of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.

Birotte’s strongly worded order bolstered similar previous court rulings, which found police cannot legally honor such detainer requests from ICE.

“The LASD officers have no authority to arrest individuals for civil immigration offenses, and thus, detaining individuals beyond their date for release violated the individuals’ Fourth Amendment rights,” Birotte wrote.

The Sheriff’s Department has not delayed releasing inmates on ICE’s behalf since 2014 and none of California’s 58 sheriffs are willing to fulfill the ICE requests. Police in other parts of the country, however, continue to hold inmates to allow ICE agents time to take them into federal custody for possible deportation. Judges elsewhere could look to this week’s decision for guidance when deciding future cases.

ICE detainers typical ask jails to inform them prior to releasing illegals and/or hold the illegal for 48 hours. If ICE fails to show, then it is on ICE that the illegal alien is release. Remember, these are illegal aliens who have been in jail. They’ve either been picked up for some crime and are going to be released, or have been incarcerated, convicted of some offense. These are the people California’s sheriffs and other law enforcement, as well as Judge Birotte Jr are protecting.

Birotte also went on to rule against several other things that ICE does, such as

Under the terms of the lawsuit, the ruling voids any pending detainer requests that were issued by ICE officials in Southern California. That designation is important since ICE officers working out of a facility in Orange County issue detainer requests to police departments in dozens of states around the country.

I’ve written it before and I’ll write it again: if the pro-illegal alien forces want to play this game, then ICE should have their own judge who sits around and signs warrants. Pro-illegal supporters say they want warrants? Give them warrants. Then, if they try and block those warrants, if they fail to enforce them, then those pro-illegal forces can be arrested for obstruction. Because you know they’ll try. They’re all, including the ACLU, which is involved in the lawsuit, putting illegal aliens ahead of American citizens and those who are lawfully present.

Poor Sportsmanship: Shani Davis Blows Off Opening Ceremonies In Snit Fit

The other day, we learned that U.S. Olympic contender Shani Davis pretty much stated that losing a coin toss for the right to lead the U.S. delegation in the Olympics opening ceremonies. What happened during the opening ceremonies? (via Twitchy)

The only “controversy” is Davis acting like a petulant child. Like a poor sport. One of the reasons I love baseball and the NHL is that they won’t tolerate poor sportsmanship on the playing surface. Hit a home run and pose? Get ready for a pitch behind your head. Showboat on the ice? Expect to get run, and possibly have to fight. The showboating in the NFL and NBA are major reasons why I’m really starting to dislike the sports. I gave up on the NBA long ago over this.

But, hey, this gets better, with shakedown artist Jesse Jackson getting involved, tweeting

The choice to represent our country as in the @Olympics should never be determined by the flip of a coin. The Committee should immediately institute a more appropriate system to make such a significant determination. @ShaniDavis

Is there anything more fair than a coin toss? Perhaps pistols at 10 paces? Rock paper scissors? What if the Committee themselves took a vote and gave it to Erin Hamlin? Would Jackson still have a problem? Most likely. Because some people only see race in everything. Anyhow, apparently there are tons of raaaaacist decisions made every Saturday and Sunday during college and pro football season. Oh, and Fridays for high school!

Meanwhile, Vice President Pence apparently snubbed the entrance of the North Korean athletes. Some slammed him, some defended him, like

‘Climate Change’ Could Maybe Possibly Ruin Golf In The Future Or Something

They just keep trying to scare us, eh?

Report: Future Open Championship venues could be threatened by climate change

The Open Championship celebrated its 146th edition last summer at Royal Birkdale. The rotation of 10 different courses has been mostly the same for the last few decades, but a recent report noted that the event might not make it 146 moretournaments with the current venues.

According to the BBC, which reviewed a report by the Climate Coalition, various courses on the coasts of the UK are in peril because of climate change and a rising North Sea.

Sea-level rise poses the greatest long-term threat to golf in the UK. More than one in six of Scotland’s 600 golf courses are located on the coast — including the Old Course at St Andrews, Royal Troon and Montrose Golf Links in Angus. ‘Links’ are the oldest type of golf courses, developed in Scotland, and located on the coast on ‘links land’ — characterized by dunes, sandy soil and fine-textured grassland.

The R&A, the governing body for golf outside the USA and Mexico, recognizes the risk, while only a small increase in sea-level rise would imperil all of the world’s links courses before the end of the century. Along with the damage they can do to course playability, increased rainfall and storms — exacerbated by climate change — are posing participation challenges.

Every single gauge in the U.K. shows minimal sea rise, well below what would be expected for a Holocene warm period. Lerwick actual shows a minimal decrease. In fact, every Atlantic and northern country for Europe I’ve checked shows way less than an expected 1 foot per century. They’re all pretty much Holocene average, when they should all be much higher. But, facts do not matter, because this is about scaring people.
