Despite all the greeny weenies yammering on about anthropogenic climate change, how fossil fuels are evil, and the government of the People’s Republik Of California (PRC) passing all sorts of Hotcoldwetdry laws, the people still use tons on fossil fuels. And
To Meet Climate Goals, California Should Cut Oil Production, Report Says
California built a reputation launching some of the most ambitious climate policies in the world, but it’s also a significant oil producer, with the third largest oil production of any state.
If it were to eliminate even half of that production, it could cut global carbon dioxide emissions by 8 million to 24 million tons per year, the Stockholm Environment Institute says in a new report. That’s equalivalent to as much as 5 percent of the state’s overall emissions.
It’s a supply-side approach to cutting emissions, rather than targeting demand the way the state’s cap-and-trade or auto-efficiency rules do.
I think this is a fantastic idea. They need to walk the talk. Who cares if citizens are already complaining that the current carbon trading rules are increasing the cost of fuel, and that the above idea would drastically increase the cost: we have a planet to save from hundreds of a degree temperature rise! PRC has the second highest average gas price in the nation, right behind Hawaii.
The authors argue that attacking fossil fuel production at the wellhead is necessary if California—often called the world’s sixth-largest economy—is to help meet the goals of the Paris climate agreement. Studies have found that avoiding the worst risks of climate change means keeping most of the world’s fossil fuel reserves—including a third of the oil—in the ground.
“You could in theory do that by reducing demand for fossil fuels,” said Peter Erickson, a senior scientist at the Stockholm Environment Institute and co-author of the report. “But it’s not happening fast enough, so that creates a need to limit the supply of fossil fuels.”
Why not go whole hog and ban the production of fossil fuels in the state completely? This includes drilling and refinement. Heck, the PRC should ban the importation of all fossil fuels to the state. Oh, and certainly the state and local governments should stop using them. We have a world to save!

Should this be something that 2nd Amendment supporters, and civil rights supporters, be worried about?
(The Hill) President Trump on Wednesday voiced support for confiscating guns from certain individuals deemed to be dangerous, even if it violates due process rights.
“I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida … to go to court would have taken a long time,†Trump said at a meeting with lawmakers on school safety and gun violence.
“Take the guns first, go through due process second,†Trump said.
Trump was responding to comments from Vice President Pence that families and local law enforcement should have more tools to report potentially dangerous individuals with weapons.
“Allow due process so no one’s rights are trampled, but the ability to go to court, obtain an order and then collect not only the firearms but any weapons,†Pence said.
“Or, Mike, take the firearms first, and then go to court,” Trump responded.
Many of us noted that back during the late 1990’s and early 2000’s Trump seemed to be just fine with an assault weapons ban, lengthening the waiting periods, and lots more gun control, but then suddenly flipped in 2011, right at the time he started running for the GOP nomination for the 2012 election cycle. He’s talked the talk since, especially starting in 2016.
Is this just Trump spouting off? When he says provocative things on Twitter or during speeches, they seem more planned than off the cuff gaffes, designed to be provocative and get the Democrats and media all apoplectic. Does he mean this?
He’s also not enthused over including national concealed carry reciprocity with a gun control bill. I happen to agree. Do it separately.
Meanwhile, Senate Republicans are not planning to go big
Senate Republicans say President Trump’s comments Wednesday calling for more ambitious gun-control proposals won’t change the political calculus in their conference, which supports a limited response to the shooting at a Florida high school.
Senate Republican Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas), who is leading the GOP response to gun violence in the upper chamber, told reporters after the meeting with Trump at the White House that he still favors a limited approach.
He wants to put a narrow bill on the floor that would give state and local officials more incentive to report relevant information to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System known as NICS.
“For me the most obvious place to start is the Fix NICS [National Instant Criminal Background Check System] bill that has 46 cosponsors,” Cornyn said of the bill he’s co-sponsored with Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy (Conn.).
Start there. How about a requirement that all gun purchases and transfers, even private ones, have a background check done if one hadn’t been performed in the last 6 months? You can limit purchases to one per month. And increase penalties on people who use firearms for crimes. Let’s look at putting the focus on the criminals, not those who do not use them unlawfully.
Do you remember a few days ago when I told you about Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and her warning to illegal aliens that ICE was going to be conducting raids, and that it could get her in trouble with several federal illegal immigration statutes? Well, she could be in trouble, but, unfortunately, not for those laws, but something else
(AP) A federal official said Wednesday that about 800 “criminals” avoided immigration arrests because Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf alerted the public to the surprise operation, an extraordinarily high number of missed targets.
Thomas Homan, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s acting director, told Fox News that the mayor’s warning on Twitter was “beyond the pale” and compared her to a gang lookout who tells people when a police car is arriving. Homan said the Justice Department is looking into whether Schaaf obstructed justice.
That would be multiple violations of laws like 8 US Code 73. Ones like subsection 1502, Resistance to an extradition officer
Whoever knowingly and willfully obstructs, resists, or opposes an extradition agent of the United States in the execution of his duties, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.
And 1510, obstruction of criminal investigations. And there are several other US codes that cover her flagrant unlawful protection of illegal aliens as obstruction.
It was unclear how many people would have eluded capture without the mayor’s warning but Homan squarely blamed her for 800 and said her actions jeopardized officer safety.
“There’s over 800 significant public safety threat criminals, these are people who are here illegally and committed yet another crime, been convicted of a crime,” he told Fox. “She gave them warning, and there’s 800 that we were unable to locate because of that warning, so that community’s a lot less safe than it would have been.”
The agency said about half of the people arrested in the San Francisco area have criminal convictions in addition to immigration violations, including convictions for assault, weapons offenses and driving under the influence. It is impossible to independently verify that claim because the agency refuses to name them. Its statement released Wednesday identified only one arrest by name.
So, bad people. I thought Democrats agreed that we don’t wan the “bad ones”? No?
The mayor, who is running for another term this year, defended her actions again on Wednesday, saying she was not tipped off by “official sources” and that she didn’t reveal specific locations.
Asked about Homan likening her to a gang lookout, she said the “Trump administration is trying to distract the American people, convince them that these immigrants are dangerous people. That could not be further from the truth and it is based in racism.”
First, she knows that her big mouth could possibly be getting her in big criminal trouble. Second, has she missed the part about people with criminal convictions being picked up?
Homan should solicit the DOJ to charge her with obstruction and a few of the harboring of illegal alien codes, make an example. We have laws. People must follow them. If they don’t, there should be penalties.
Of course, I’d say there’s an 85% chance that nothing will happen.

I wonder what the carbon footprint will be on these plastic ice trays

From the link
A pair of Kiwi creatives have come up with a cool solution to Donald Trump’s decision to ignore climate change: turn him to ice.
Scott Kelly and Ben Polkinghorne, based in London, have developed ice trays that turn out ice cubes in the shape of Trump’s head, with all profits donated to the Environmental Justice Foundation.
Polkinghorne said they hoped to raise at least £20,000 (NZ $38,000) by selling 5000 of the Trump Trays, which could be pre-ordered through Crowdfunder.
The idea came following Trump’s decision to pull out of the Paris agreement. “That was a big one for us. We thought, well, we can’t sway the mind of that man, but we can make a point,” Polkinghorne said.
So, wait, a pair of New Zealanders living in London? Did they take a sailing ship there? A lot of walking?
Anyhow, there’s even a handy dandy GIF of these ice cubes melting.
With backgrounds in advertising…
So, wait, they work in an industry that works to get people to buy Stuff, stuff that is consumerism and is Evil for ‘climate change’? Huh.

When you want serious whoppers about climatic changes, go to Michael Mann, who has called for robust debate, then blocks everyone who dares ask a question and/or disagree with them, sues them, refuses to pony up actual raw data and the methods used, and refuses to engage in debate. And, thank goodness, Mann never takes fossil fueled trips and does everything possible to have a negative carbon footprint!*
On track to an ice-free Arctic
…
We are engaged, said Mann, in an “uncontrolled experiment with the one planet that we know that supports lifeâ€.
Given the “incontrovertible measurements of the dramatic and unprecedented rise in greenhouse gas concentrations, we wouldn’t be able to explain it if the earth were not warming up. And it’s warmed up thus far a little less than a degree Celsiusâ€.
Oh, noes, you mean a Holocene warm period would get warm? How horrible!
In fact, said Mann, modelling suggests natural factors would put earth into a cooling trend. (as opposed to actual observations and data)
“It’s only when we add the human effect of increasing greenhouse gas concentrations that we can reproduce the warmth that we’ve seen,†he said.
“Climate change critics seem to come around and concede that, ‘Oh yes, maybe humans have some role.’ Well, no we don’t just have some role. Humans are actually responsible for more than 100 percent of the warming that we’ve seen. What I mean there is that natural factors were actually pushing us in the opposite direction.â€

So natural variation can only occur to contradict warming dogman.
*BTW, this interview with a New Zealand news source occurred in……drum roll…..New Zealand! That’s right, he took a long fossil fueled trip to complain about Mankind causing warming.

A double shot from the NY Times this morning, as they give Karla Cornejo Villavicencio a platform to rail at Americans for daring to enforce federal law. They also fail to mention that she is, in fact, an illegal alien, brought by her parents at the age of four. And includes a sniffles picture
The Americans Left Behind by Deportation
In the fall, I traveled to rural Ohio to meet with the children of a manwho had been recently deported to Mexico, even though he was considered a model citizen by his neighbors and had no criminal record beyond driving without a license. I had seen video footage of his three young boys and little girl saying goodbye to him at the airport. They looked like orphaned bear cubs, wandering around aimlessly in the terminal, their faces frozen in fear. (snip)
America’s historic uneasiness with interracial marriage and mixed-race children has found a new incarnation in the persecution of families with mixed legal status. There are nearly six million citizen children who live with at least one undocumented parent, and perhaps millions of other Americans who are married to undocumented immigrants. Reports are multiplying of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents picking up immigrants at their green card couple interviews, while their American spouses are left speechless and powerless. The Trump administration’s aggressive detention and removal of undocumented immigrants is not only inhumane in its treatment of immigrants, but a direct attack on the rights and well-being of their American family members.
Well, that’s a new one, comparing this to black people marrying white people when that was “scary”.
The Supreme Court has historically declared that it is “intolerable†to force a citizen to choose between two constitutional rights. But what then of the American families of deportees? Isn’t the Trump administration forcing them to make a terrible choice, between either staying in the United States and having their families rived in two, or forfeiting their lives in America so that they can keep their families intact?
Illegal aliens have no right to stay in the U.S. And the only people to blame are the illegal alien parents, who put their children, whether they were brought illegally or were born in the U.S., making them U.S. citizens, in this position of separation. Criminals get punished. How often are children separated from their parent or parents because one or both of the parents are incarcerated for breaking the law? Is that fair? Of course it is. The law breakers put themselves and their children in this position. It’s not my fault or responsibility, nor is it yours (unless you are an illegal alien).
Anyhow, they always want to protect the “innocent” illegals. Like this poster child for the Trump admin being big meanies (via Hot Air)
(CBS San Fran) ICE agents took Armando Nunez Salgado into custody outside his home. According to family members, he was in the backyard when agents walked right in through the side gate. His 14-year-old daughter Isabel Salgado dissolved into tears.
“I cried. I got very emotional, I was really sad,†said Isabel. “I mean to watch someone who is part of your everyday life and then you just have to watch him leave without saying goodbye. It kind of hurts.â€
Armando is a construction worker who has been in America more than 30 years. His wife Elena Ponce said his parents brought him to the U.S. when he was only four years old.
So sad! Except, since this was a local CBS affiliate, they refused the national Narrative and gave us this information after the sob story
But it turns out, Armando does have a dangerous past. After our interview, his family members told KPIX 5Â he was involved in gangs and drugs for a long time.
In fact, at one point, he was on ICE’s most wanted list for charges of felony force and assault with a deadly weapon.
Oops! In fact, Jazz Shaw, who wrote the article at Hot Air, received an email directly from ICE about how bad this guy was
“On Sunday, Feb. 25, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) San Francisco Fugitive Operations Team arrested ICE fugitive Armando Nuñez-Salgado, 38, a citizen of Mexico and documented Sureño gang member, who has been previously removed by ICE on four prior occasions. Over the past 18 years he has accumulated criminal convictions in California that have resulted in more than 15 years of prison sentencings. His criminal convictions include assault with a deadly weapon (statutorily enhanced because of his gang member status), burglary, hit-and-run causing injury and evading a peace officer.â€
The Sureno’s are a very bad, very dangerous, very violent gang. And it keeps popping up that illegal aliens who get popped by ICE end up being people with bad histories.
Anyhow, don’t want parents separated from their kids? Stop allowing illegal aliens into the nation. At the end, this is on the illegals for putting their kids in a bad position.

Rome blanketed by snow as Arctic storm dubbed ‘Beast from the East’ sets records
The Arctic storm dubbed the “Beast from the East” saw temperatures across much of Europe fall Monday to their lowest level this winter and even brought a rare snowstorm to Rome, paralyzing the city and giving its residents the chance to ski, sled and build snowmen in its famous parks and piazzas.
Rome’s schools were ordered closed, while train, plane and bus services were crippled. Italy’s civil protection agency even mobilized the army to help clear slush-covered streets as a city used to mild winters was covered by a thick blanket of snow.
“Beautiful, beautiful!” marveled Roman resident Ginevra Sciurpa, who donned a fur hat and thick scarf to brave the cold. “Even though I’m not a child anymore, the enthusiasm for the snow is still the same. It is always beautiful, and above all I didn’t have to go to work.” (snip)
Parks that usually stay green through winter were blanketed white, giving eager Romans a rare opportunity to go sledding, snow-shoeing or skiing. Even the Circo Massimo became a hotspot for snowball fights, while Piazza Navona, with its famed Bernini fountains, turned into a snow-dusted winter wonderland.
Pretty!
Snow in Rome ???
It's a very rare event!! ???????????? pic.twitter.com/YRDayfVsCf— Manuela ??????? (@onlyellow) February 26, 2018
Elsewhere in Europe, the storm set dangerously low temperatures: Lithuanian officials said temperatures that plunged to as low as minus 11 Fahrenheit in some places were to blame for the deaths of at least three people over the weekend. Hospitals in Lithuania and Latvia have reported an uptick in people being treated for hypothermia and frostbite.
And the article continues with the cold and snow, leading to
Scientists say the big chill in Europe is partly caused by the fact that strong winds which normally keep cold air ‘locked’ over the Arctic have weakened, releasing icy blasts across the northern hemisphere. Similar sudden drops in temperature have occurred over North America in recent years and climate researchers say they could become more frequent as global warming further saps strength from the air currents around the pole.
