Who’s Surprised That The Washington Post Uses Waffle House Shooting To Call For Gun Banning?

Who’s also surprised that the Washington Post Editorial Board forgets to include an important bit of information?

Why did the accused Waffle House shooter get back his guns?

THERE WERE plenty of warning signs about Travis J. Reinking. He once told police that music superstar Taylor Swift was stalking him and hacking into his phone. Another time, he barged into a community pool, jumping into the water wearing a woman’s pink housecoat and challenging lifeguards to a fight. Then there was his arrest by the Secret Service for breaching White House security because he wanted to meet with the president.

Yet there he allegedly was early Sunday morning — just nine months after his White House arrest — at a Waffle House outside Nashville, in possession of an assault-style rifle that authorities say was used to kill four people and wound several others. That the AR-15 semiautomatic, along with three other guns, had once been confiscated from him by Illinois authorities who recognized the danger only compounds the failure — indeed the absurdity — of policies that make it far too easy to get guns. And that allow weapons designed for war to become everyday commodities.

Liberals love that talking point about weapons of war. You’d have to be an idiot to bring a semi-automatic rifle to a battlefield, but, then, liberals writing about guns usually do not actually understand guns.

“Let’s be honest,” said Nashville Mayor David Briley (D). “Some people see these weapons as having a purpose of terrorizing other people. It’s happening too much. Enough is enough.” Indeed. The same type of weapon was used at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where 17 people were killed; it was used in the 2017 slaughter of 25 worshipers at a rural Texas church; it was part of the arsenal used by the Las Vegas gunman who killed 58, and the shooter who killed 49 at an Orlando nightclub. These are not weapons needed for self-defense or hunting. They are designed to kill as many people as quickly and efficiently as possible.

However, the Constitution means that this is none of the WPEB’s business. And, they are used for self defense.

That they are easy to acquire is made obvious by the ease and speed with which Mr. Reinking managed to get his guns back. Illinois authorities transferred ownership of the rifle and other weapons to Mr. Reinking’s father. They said they did so because the father had a legal claim and promised to keep them away from his son. Clearly the father has some soul-searching to do. But it is ludicrous that law and process would not give law enforcement more authority to keep guns out of the hands of people who pose a danger. There is no law in Tennessee, where Mr. Reinking moved from Illinois, that would have barred him from owning guns.

What’s missing, as the WPEB goes on to recommend voting for candidates who are super in to gun grabbing, including banning “assault weapons” and magazine size restrictions, along with their buzzworthy “comprehensive gun reform”, is the fact that Reinking had his state firearms card revoked by the Illinois state police in 2017. The Post spins this, and spins this disingenuously. The law did give the police the authority to keep the guns out of Reinking’s hands. Is the Post suggesting that his father should have had his 2nd Amendment Rights stripped, as well, because of his son being a wackjob? In retrospect, it seems the answer is “yes,” but, you couldn’t have known this beforehand, and we aren’t supposed to punish people who’ve done nothing wrong under the law.

But, that’s exactly what the gun grabbers want to do. Punish the law abiding for the actions of criminals. But, I’ll tell you what: I’ll give you gun grabbers an assault weapons ban and a maximum magazine size of 12 (both on new purchases) with a 5 year sunset to see if it makes a difference, and you allow inspections of abortion clinics

https://twitter.com/APCentralRegion/status/988474230277922817

Perhaps abortion fanatics can explain why treating abortion clinics that perform medical procedures like a clinic that performs medical procedures and inspecting them for medical standards sends you into a rage.

‘Climate Change’ (scam) To Cause Flooding And Droughting In People’s Republik Of California Or Somethin

Yes, I know droughting isn’t a word, but, then anthropogenic climate change is mostly not real, either

California’s wild extremes of drought and floods to worsen as climate warms

Over the past couple of years, California lurched from its worst drought ever to disastrous, record flooding.

Now, a new study suggests the frequency of these rapid, year-to-year swings from extreme dry to wet conditions — which the study authors dub “precipitation whiplash events” — may become more common in California’s future as a consequence of man-made global warming.

The study authors say the frequency of whiplash events — in which the region transitions suddenly from very dry to very wet conditions — “will double in southern California by the end of the century.”

That would mean such whiplash events would occur around eight times per century in a warmer climate versus four times per century in a more stable climate, said UCLA climate scientist Daniel Swain, lead author of the study.

Please define “stable”, because there have been numerous warm and cool periods throughout the Holocene, much less the previous 4.5 billion years on Earth. Furthermore, how do they know? Can they prove that what’s going on now (remember, they used to say California would be in Permanent Drought before it started getting wet again) is any different from the previous Holocene warm periods? With actual measured data?

Swain and his team of researchers used computer model simulations to predict the future climate patterns in California.

Good News: College Kids No Longer Allowed To Go Outside

It begs the question: which came first: the Special Snowflakes or the enablers of Special Snowflakes?

Penn State’s 98-Year-Old Outing Club Is No Longer Allowed to Go Outside

What’s more dangerous: rugby, or a walk in the woods? At Pennsylvania State University, the administrators apparently think it’s the latter.

The student “Outing Club,” which has gone backpacking, kayaking, and hiking in state parks over the course of its 98-year-existence, will no longer be allowed to host outdoor events after administrators conducted a risk assessment, according to The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“The types of activities in which [Penn State Outing Club] engages are above the university’s threshold of acceptable risk for recognized student organizations,” according to an official announcement.

Wait for it

A key issue for administrators was that the Outing Club frequently visit locations with poor cell phone coverage. This wasn’t an issue during the Coolidge administration, but now that cell phones exist, students are apparently expected to remain glued to them at all times.

The school has a solution

The Post-Gazette‘s Don Hopey reports that the administration is hoping to reform the Outing Club into some kind of movie-watching club:

Ms. Powers said meetings between the Outing Club’s student leaders and the university are “ongoing” about the club’s future role on campus.

Those talks are focused on the possibility of “forming a different kind of club,” [current club president Richard] Waltz said, one that still holds film festivals and hosts speakers, but can no longer lead students on walks in the woods.

Maybe they can take virtual reality walks in a padded room—provided there’s cell service.

What the of legal age kids should do is create their own group, separate from the school, and just go on their trips.

Warmist Wants To Unleash “Regulatory Hell” To Stop ‘Climate Change’ (scam)

It’s funny how Warmist solutions always seem to revolve around more and more Big Government controlling more and more of people’s lives, eh? Never things like “all Warmists should immediately give up their own use of fossil fuels and make their lives carbon neutral”. James Delingpole brings us

(Breitbart) Beneath the warm cuddly exterior of the bunny-hugging greenie beats the heart of a fascist. If you ever doubted it, check out this Vox interview with William T Vollmann.

Vollmann is an award-winning author and war correspondent once described as the most “ambitious, audacious writer working in America today” and tipped as a plausible Nobel Prize for Literature candidate. He claims once to have been a climate change ‘denier’ but not any more.

The climate change threat is so dire, he believes, that only the most drastic solutions will do:

It’s not just what some consumer does at home. It’s niggling little issues that add up. In Japan, roughly 50 percent or so of all the methane emissions — and that’s one of the three most dangerous greenhouse gases — are caused by rice growing. All this stuff that seems so innocuous. It seems to me that you have to drag people into some kind of regulatory hell, unfortunately. Maybe there’s a better way to do it, but I don’t see one.

I do. But, Warmists aren’t willing to give up their “comforts”, as Vollmann later goes on to discuss in the interview. They’re willing to attempt to restrict those same comforts from people in the “developing world”, especially in places where black people live.

I will disagree with Delingpole a bit

Still, it’s important to hear the thoughts of green thinkers and influencers like Vollmann now and again because that way we can be reminded of what it really is that motivates environmentalists. They dress their feelings up as love for the planet – but what it’s really about is hatred for technology, hatred of creature comforts, hatred of human achievement.

While Warmists and enviroweenies may dislike those, particularly the last two (and creature comforts for Other People), as I’ve noted time and time again this is about Progressive (nice Fascist) policies, always increasing the size and power of the government of citizens, private entities, and economies. And the little Progressive idiots have been brainwashed into forgetting that the bad parts of government controlling our lives won’t hit them in their own lives. They’ll be the first to complain when it does, acting all shocked. Remember this gem?

Cindy Vinson and Tom Waschura are big believers in the Affordable Care Act. They vote independent and are proud to say they helped elect and re-elect President Barack Obama.

“I was laughing at Boehner — until the mail came today,” Waschura said, referring to House Speaker John Boehner, who is leading the Republican charge to defund Obamacare.

“I really don’t like the Republican tactics, but at least now I can understand why they are so pissed about this. When you take $10,000 out of my family’s pocket each year, that’s otherwise disposable income or retirement savings that will not be going into our local economy.”

“Of course, I want people to have health care,” Vinson said. “I just didn’t realize I would be the one who was going to pay for it personally.”

Obamacare is much like the ‘climate change’ push: increased costs, increased control of your life, and, guess what, Warmists? You’ll see the bad parts, too!

Post-Waffle House Shooting, Democrats Call For More Gun Grabbing

Well, of course they do. This is what they do (often while being protected by people who are armed themselves)

(CNN) As police search for the gunman who killed four people at a Tennessee Waffle House, the mayor of Nashville is saying “enough is enough” and calling for stricter gun-control laws.

“I know that we all want to live in a safe environment that allows everyone to go to work or school and feel and be safe,” Democratic Mayor David Briley said during a news conference on Sunday. “We all want to live up to our greatest potential, and it’s my responsibility as the mayor of Nashville to try and make that happen. Clearly the victims of this shooting deserve our prayers and our thoughts, but they also deserve leaders who will step up and take action and do something to get these weapons off our streets.

“For a moment, let’s be honest about what happened,” Briley said. “Last night, innocent Nashvilleans were terrorized by a man with an AR-15. Let’s be honest. Some people see these weapons as having a purpose of terrorizing other people. It’s happening too much. Enough is enough.”

So, blame the gun, not the shooter. Of course. We get a tiny bit more on the mayor’s policy proposals at the Tennessean

“We need comprehensive gun reform to address mass shootings, domestic shootings, accidental shootings and homicides,” Briley said at news conference where Metro police, FBI and other law enforcement provided updates on the shooting and search for the suspect, 29-year-old Travis Reinking, who was still at-large Sunday evening.

“If we can all just come together for the greater good, we can take these weapons of war off the streets of our country,” Briley said. (snip)

“For a moment, let’s be honest about what happened,” Briley said. “Last night, innocent Nashvillians were terrorized by a man with an AR-15. Let’s be honest. Some people see these weapons as having a purpose of terrorizing other people. It’s happening too much. Enough is enough.”

Let’s all be honest, we’re terrorized by Democrats talking points about gun confiscation, erosion of the 1st and 2nd Amendments, calls for raising our taxes, calls for controlling our lives through ‘climate change’ policies and “universal health care”, and they are complicit in millions and millions of murders via their support of abortion on demand. The Democratic Party should be banned. Enough is enough.

And then we have the local congress critter

A U.S. congressman is calling for restricting access to some assault weapons in the wake of a shooting at a Waffle House restaurant in Tennessee on Sunday that left four people dead. Rep. Jim Cooper issued a statement Sunday, calling for restricting “widespread civilian access to military-grade assault weapons.”

In other words, gun banning. They all forget that there was a failure of law and an idiot father

A sheriff in Illinois says Travis Reinking’s state firearms card was revoked last year by state police, but his guns were given to his father with the promise that they wouldn’t be shared with his son.

Sheriff Robert Huston in Tazewell County, Illinois, says his department has “no information” on how Reinking got the weapons again. Huston says Reinking’s father has a valid firearm ownership card, and his officers didn’t believe they had any authority to seize the weapons. He says the father agreed to “keep the weapons secure and out of the possession of Travis.”

Reinking was arrested by the Secret Service in July of 2017 in a restricted area near the White House, which is the reason his firearms authorization was revoked and the guns were seized. But, hey, tell us about how more and more gun laws work.

Kids Vandalize Hawaii Streets For ‘Climate Change’ (scam) Awareness Or Something

And this was all with the permission and help of adults

Hawaii students mark Honolulu’s streets to raise awareness about climate change

State and community leaders, along with hundreds of Hawaii students, grabbed boxes of chalk and hit the streets on Saturday to raise awareness about climate change.

Around 10 a.m. on Saturday Gov. David Ige, community leaders, and students from 40 schools across the state drew blue lines in chalk to mark sea level rises at 15 different locations in Hawaii. The event was part of the Blue Line Project, an environmental initiative that raises awareness about the negative impacts of climate change.

The event was hosted by the Blue Planet Foundation, a community group that focuses on raising awareness around sustainability, climate change and clean energy efforts in Hawaii.

“The blue line that students chalk today won’t last long. But the impression it leaves will be indelible,” said Jeff Mikulina, executive director of Blue Planet Foundation, in a news release. “We are a force of nature. The actions we take today will literally shape our coastline tomorrow.”

The project is meant to highlight the Aloha State’s vulnerability to sea level rises due to its location in the Pacific Ocean. The lines drawn around the state were representative of data gathered by the Hawaii Climate Commission.

According to Blue Planet Foundation recent studies suggest that, in a current student’s lifetime, Hawaii’s sea-level could rise by a meter.

“Could”. OK. A meter is 39 inches

That’s official data from NOAA. Slightly below half a foot of sea rise per 100 years, which is, as I’ve mentioned many, many times, is below the Holocene average of 6-8 inches of sea rise per century. There’s a heck of a difference between 6 inches and 39. It’s equivalent to .1524 meters.

Hilo shows about a foot of rise per century. Kahului shows .73 feet. Mokuoloe shows .47 feet, but, rather a shorter measuring base. And Nawiliwili is .54 feet. This is all average, and one would expect a sea rise of above a foot per century during a Holocene warm period. There’s nothing man-caused about it. What these adults are doing is scaring kids, indoctrinating them, without actual facts.

The Hill: We Need Gun Grabbing Policies Because Of Raaaaacism

Over at The Hill, Frederick Staidum Jr., Ph.D has been given a platform to complain about gun ownership, and he sees everything in terms of raaaaacism and sex, because he’s a scholar of race and sexuality in 19th-century American culture and literature at Loyola University Chicago

Gun control is all about gun violence — we can’t forget who we’re trying to protect

In response to growing activism following the Parkland, Fla., mass shooting, federal and state legislatures have passed a variety of new gun control measures. The 2018 omnibus spending bill established the STOP School Violence Act, which increases coordination between law enforcement and schools, provides mental health crises training for teachers and administrators, and ”hardens” school safety systems with metal detectors, door-locking mechanisms, and anonymous reporting and emergency communication technologies. (snip)

Florida passed the most controversial of reforms: arming teachers. And just last week, Vermont’s NRA A-rated governor surprised the nation by signing the strictest gun-control laws in the history of his state.

Vermont is being sued over parts of their just passed laws for Constitution violations, at both the state and federal levels. But, you know, many of these laws are raaaaacist

While these developments are celebrated by gun-control advocates and political observers as dislodging longstanding NRA-backed recalcitrance, we still aren’t getting to the root of the problem: not simply controlling access to guns, but reducing gun violence. No matter how well-intentioned, these policies can and have produced unjust results, especially for black women and girls.

For example, look what happens when we give law enforcement a larger role in schools. While black students make up 15.5 percent of total enrollment, they account for 33.41 percent of all students subjected to school-related arrests.

This disparity affects black girls at a disproportionate rate, which is probably related to the perception of black girls as less innocent, more adult-like and in need of less protection than white girls of the same age.

Could it possibly be that the Black students, especially the girls, are more apt to be involved in conduct that gets them detained and even arrested? If people are going to play the race card, they damned well better have some facts to offer that they didn’t deserve to be arrested. Why do we never hear this about Latinos/Hispanics or Asians?

Another vulnerable population are victims of intimate partner violence. While laws exist to prevent convicted abusers from possessing guns, most only apply to legal spouses and parents, which leaves a so-called “girlfriend loophole.” In other words, a violent husband may be restricted from purchasing a gun, while a violent boyfriend is not. Thankfully, some of the newer laws attempt to eliminate this loophole.

Mr. Staidum has a point, which is why many states are looking to expand on these laws. But, of course

Still, still policies don’t address the disproportionate gun deaths of transgender women of color. Approximately half of all transgender people will endure intimate partner violence during their life, yet laws written to keep guns out of abusers’ hands often won’t protect them.

Part of the problem is the narrow language of “domestic” and “girlfriends,” which allows intimate violence experienced outside of “traditional” cisgender and heterosexual relations to fall through the cracks.

Not just the gender confused, but Black gender confused.

We’re focused on mass shootings rather than the emotional and psychological pain caused by more frequent forms of gun violence plaguing black communities. Again, part of the problem is bias. Whites have a history of not seeing black people as vulnerable, which limits the imagined reach of reforms. Researchers at the University of Virginia and Northwestern University found that 6 in 10 white respondents choose black subjects as those who are more likely to embody superhuman characteristics, such as withstanding “the pain of burning hot coals” or quelling “hunger and thirst.”

Well, there’s an interesting thing. Why is there such a high rate of gun violence in Black communities, which tend to be in cities run by the Democratic Party? Mr. Staidum wants to blame this on Whitey with his “whites have a history of not seeing black people as vulnerable.” Perhaps he should make it about politics, since one party sees blacks as simply a voting block to be pandered to and controlled on Democrat plantations. Perhaps he should wonder why there is such a high rate of violence, including with firearms, in these Black communities. Look at himself, as it where.

The point is, we can’t have an effective gun control debate without a comprehensive, intersectional approach to gun violence, which centers the experience of women and girls of color. Otherwise, we risk creating solutions that inordinately harm our most at-risk populations.

Funny. We have to use even further Leftist policies to solve the fallout from Leftist policies.

At the end of the day, though, this is all about further and further restrictions on the ability of law abiding citizens to own firearms for protections. As someone in the Hill comments asks “The one question I ask and the left never answers is this. How does taking firearms away from law abiding citizens and making them helpless make criminals harmless?” Well, just go to Chicago or Baltimore, and see how their restrictive gun policies work.
