Elephant In Room: Trump’s Press Conference

There’s so much reporting and analysis and commentary and such on a tiny portion of the press conference that’s it really is hard to get to the base detail. Should Trump apologize, not apologize, clarify?

(CNS News) President Trump’s press conference remarks in Helsinki are drawing fire from Democrats and Republicans at home, but one thing he did not do publicly was announce any concessions or tempering of administration policies that have arguably been tougher on Russia than those of his predecessors.

While Trump is being harshly criticized for his response to questions about President Vladimir Putin’s denials of meddling in the 2016 election, there were no indications of a softening in key areas of foreign policy differences – relating to Ukraine, Syria, Iran and ballistic missile defense in Europe.

“What Donald Trump says and what his administration does are not necessarily things that are closely related,” Danielle Pletka, senior vice president for foreign and defense policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute, told the BBC after the summit.

She said the Trump administration “has in fact been very aggressive in pushing sanctions against Russian bad economic actors, Russian intelligence actors and others … who have played a bad role on the international stage.”

Pletka pushed back on the charge that Trump had raised little in public about Russian malfeasances.

“That’s the kind of accusation that I find the least sympathetic,” she said. “The Obama administration was completely indifferent to the suffering of the Syrian people, including when Russia got involved,” she said. “The Obama administration was completely uninterested in defending Crimea from Russia.”

She goes on to talk about the “moral equivalence”

Let’s not forget that the Obama administration, while Hillary Clinton was Sec of State, attempted to interfere in Russian elections, as well as Israel elections, Brexit, and others during Obama’s time in office.

One has to wonder if this was a planned statement from Trump, or an off the cuff gaffe? If people think Trump doesn’t plan almost everything using a giant SMART action plan (even down to things like screwing with Lefties on Twitter, up to intentional misspellings), you’d be wrong. And, while it’s important to consider the silly statement, also consider the full transcript of the post meeting statement

As president, I cannot make decisions on foreign policy in a futile effort to appease partisan critics, or the media, or Democrats who want to do nothing but resist and obstruct.

Constructive dialogue between the United States and Russia afford the opportunity to open new pathways toward peace and stability in our world. I would rather take a political risk in pursuit of peace than to risk peace in pursuit of politics. As president, I will always put what is best for America and what is best for the American people.

Yeah, you should be upset about his answer to the question, but you should also consider everything else. And, don’t forget, most Democrats and media folks had zero problem with Obama’s cozy relationship with Iran, and all the money and stuff Obama gave them. Even Rand Paul is referring to Trump Derangement Syndrome regarding the over the top responses to the whole meeting.

Judge Puts Temporary Kibosh On Deporting Reunited Illegal Alien Families

Perhaps the judge should read the appropriate federal statutes which allow the Executive Office agencies to remove illegal aliens from the nation, and do not allow for a hold simply because they were separated

(Daily Caller) A federal judge with a history of pushing back against President Donald Trump’s immigration policies has temporarily blocked the deportation of reunited illegal immigrant families on Monday.

San Diego-based U.S. District Court Judge Dana ordered the pause in a case filed by the ACLU until at least July 23, allowing time to decide if he should extend that order permanently.

The ACLU filed a formal complaint July 12 that asked for the government to pause deporting reunited illegal immigrant families and demanded the government pay for the cost of reuniting families, which in one case, cost $1,900, The Daily Caller News Foundation reported. (snip)

Former federal public defender Jeremy Warren said that, while Sabraw wouldn’t admit it himself,  “everything he’s done so far shows that he’s been offended by the government’s actions in this case,” USA Today reported July 13.

“Extend the order permanently.” So, this activist judge, who was Offended by the government enforcing The Law (just like Obama did when illegals were separated, and no one in the media, or this judge, cared), might make the order permanent? Under what authority can a federal judge change the duly passed Legislative Branch law to allow invasion of the country by foreign nations in contradiction of the Constitution? All this does is entice more illegal aliens to attempt to take long, dangerous journeys to come to the U.S. illegally.

France’s World Cup win is a victory for immigrants everywhere

France’s electrifying 4-2 World Cup win over Croatia represents a victory for Africa and immigrants everywhere.

The team’s success is particularly noteworthy because of the way in which anti-immigrant sentiment, especially against migrants with African roots, has roiled French society over the past two decades. In 2005, racial and urban unrest gripped suburban housing projects outside of Paris in the wake of the death of two teenagers who were electrocuted in a substation after being chased by police. And just last month, riots erupted in the French city of Nantes, two hours outside of Paris, after a young Guinean immigrant was shot and killed after being stopped by the police.

Clashes over police brutality, racial justice and economic opportunity shape debates across Europe and the United States regarding who deserves the right to be a citizen. Immigrants with African roots populate all parts of French society, particularly the areas that require hard, at times poorly paid and dangerous labor. Many of these immigrants — and citizens — are connected to France and the larger European Union’s colonial past.

Good grief. These people. A goodly chunk of those “rioting” (burning cars is a sport that breaks out all the time by these people) was done by people who are illegally present in France. But, really, is anyone surprised that a leftist nutter had to go down this route? I would have been more surprised if there wasn’t a story trying to link the World Cup to SJW stuff like unfettered immigration. And, yes, they also have plenty of stories linking the World Cup and ‘climate change’. Moving on

France’s at times toxic debate over immigration anticipated America’s contemporary global debate over immigration, one that scapegoats the most vulnerable populations as thieves, rapists and murderers. England’s decision to leave the European Union, what’s become popularly known as “Brexit,” came in the wake of a xenophobic campaign that smeared immigration as spelling the death knell of a racially pure British identity.

We can no longer afford to pretend that immigrants entering any nation on earth are not fellow citizens seeking the opportunity to thrive and become citizens of a reimagined world community. France’s World Cup team demonstrates to all how immigration, at its best, holds the key to a liberated and more humane future for us all.

In other words, let them all in. Just not near where the liberals live. They don’t like that much.

We Should Be Talking About ‘Climate Change’ Because A Woman’s Baby Can’t Sleep At Night Or Something

Personally, I’d recommend turning on the air conditioning and living in modern world, but, hey, we all know that a 1.5F increase in global temperatures over 170 years is doom

My baby can’t sleep from the heat, why aren’t we talking about climate change?

Irritated and covered in sweat, yet again my two year old daughter is struggling to sleep in her cot. I’ve now lost count of the number of nights that the baby thermometer has scowled at me for putting her to bed in officially dangerous temperatures.

The ongoing heatwave is the main topic of everyday conversation these days, with record-breaking temperatures and wildfires covering newspapers’ front pages and the NHS issuing health warnings for vulnerable groups.

Yet there has been a deafening silence about the likely key driver – climate change.

I am staggered at how difficult it is for us as a society to talk about the links between climate change and extreme weather events like heatwaves. Most people have no problem talking about the links between lung cancer and smoking, even if they aren’t lung cancer specialists. But whenever I’ve brought up the subject of climate change in conversations about the heatwave with people around me, they’ve quickly changed the subject.

Probably to something like “turn the ac on, dumbass.” Unshockingly, this person having this issue, Jamie Clarke, is a climate change activist. So of course he finds this “problem.”

Gun Grabbers Upset That People Are Licensing Their Guns, British Edition

Gun grabbers throughout the First World always tell us that they do not want to take our guns, they just want to keep them out of the hands of criminals. That they want universal background checks and that guns should be registered. That they’re worried about “assault rifles” which they now call “weapons of war.” Well, in jolly old England, handguns are mostly banned, and semi-automatic rifles, including those “weapons of war”, are banned in anything over .22 caliber. As for the others? Dominic Robertson at the Shropshire Star (near Birmingham, western England) is rather upset

Big rise in the number of licensed guns in the region

Newly released figures from the Home Office show that in March this year, there were 25,086 licensed firearms in the West Mercia Police force area, up from 19,122 in 2009.

The number excludes shotguns, which are licensed separately.

It means there are 1,993 firearms for every 100,000 people in West Mercia, an increase of 26 per cent from March 2009 when local records were first collated. It is the highest rate at any point over the last decade.

In total, 7,171 valid firearm licences in West Mercia covered an average of 3.5 guns each.

There were a further 67,651 licensed shotguns in the area – a decrease on a decade ago.

In Dyfed-Powys there were 13,129 licensed firearms, up from 11,593 in 2009.

There were 35,787 licensed shotguns, again a fall on the number recorded 10 years ago.

OK, so a goodly chunk are shotguns. Didn’t they realize that Vice President Joe Biden said a shotgun was great for defense?

Gill Marshall-Andrews, chairwoman of the Gun Control Network, said that society should be working towards fewer guns, and that the rise in legal firearms was difficult to explain.

She said: “We campaign strongly for tighter licensing laws and those have been introduced, by and large. It is becoming more difficult to get a gun licence, so I have no idea why it has gone up.

“Unless we are going to say that nobody should have a gun – and we have never said that – you should have a good reason to own a gun, and you should be a proper person.

Nobody wants to take their guns, they just want to reduce the number of guns and make it harder and harder for law abiding citizens to obtain a firearm.

One has to wonder if the increase in guns like shotguns and certain rifles has anything to do with the number of “refugees”, legal and illegal, streaming into the U.K., and all the rape and crime they bring with them.

The Media, Online And Outraged: Trump Makes Being A D.C. Tour Guide A Tough Gig Or Something

Let’s jump back in time, all the way to April 5th, 2006, during the time of Bush Derangement Syndrome, a day the Washington Post published this article

The Left, Online and Outraged

In the angry life of Maryscott O’Connor, the rage begins as soon as she opens her eyes and realizes that her president is still George W. Bush. The sun has yet to rise and her family is asleep, but no matter; as soon as the realization kicks in, O’Connor, 37, is out of bed and heading toward her computer.

Out there, awaiting her building fury: the Angry Left, where O’Connor’s reputation is as one of the angriest of all. “One long, sustained scream” is how she describes the writing she does for various Web logs, as she wonders what she should scream about this day.

She smokes a cigarette. Should it be about Bush, whom she considers “malevolent,” a “sociopath” and “the Antichrist”? She smokes another cigarette. Should it be about Vice President Cheney, whom she thinks of as “Satan,” or about Karl Rove, “the devil”? Should it be about the “evil” Republican Party, or the “weaselly, capitulating, self-aggrandizing, self-serving” Democrats, or the Catholic Church, for which she says “I have a special place in my heart . . . a burning, sizzling, putrescent place where the guilty suffer the tortures of the damned”?

That was the Unhinged Left, highlighted for all to see. They all seemed to wake up and use their festering hatred to find things to slam Bush and his people over, or others who disagree. It wasn’t healthy. It’s one thing to have a few interests you focus on as a blogger, a reporter, etc. They took it up to the legendary 11. Now, though, we get professional news outlets, reporters, and opinion writers (not too mention elected Democrats losing their minds) mimicking this very trope, as witnessed by Steve Hendrix in the very same Washington Post

‘What a crazy country’: Trump makes being a D.C. tour guide a tough gig

It started, as it often does, when the D.C. Nation Tours bus passed the Trump International Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue near the White House. A many-accented murmur of curiosity was followed by a shouted question from a Peruvian visitor in the back.

“What do local people really think of him?”

“What do local people think of President Trump?” veteran D.C. tour guide Maricar Donato repeated evenly into her microphone on a hot July morning, instantly wary of any political discord that might ding a $7.5 billion tourism industry that brings 20 million annual visitors to the nation’s capital.

“He is too reactive,” called a man from Guatemala.

“Fifty percent of the people love him and fifty percent can’t stand him,” offered a tourist from Miami.

“Fifty-fifty,” repeated Donato, a Filipino immigrant, latching on to a compromise. “That is a good answer. He is our president, and we respect that. Now look at the Corinthian columns on the National Archives on your right . . . ”

One has to wonder if this is even true, or just something that emanated from the fever-swamp, TDS infused mind of Steve Hendrix, much like the whole “plane bae” story was apparently made up because someone was bored and wanted to make a splash on social media. How did he even find this front page story?

The bus rolled on, the tourists sat back and Donato had once again deflected a tour-group tempest particular to Trump-era touring: Sightseeing devolving into slight slinging.

Some groups have erupted in boos when passing the Trump-emblazoned hotel, while others have nearly emptied the souvenir carts of Make America Great Again caps. It falls to beleaguered tour guides to keep peace on the bus during a broiling, roiling tourist season. (snip)

But as with many things, the tensions are heightened in the Trump era. Many are worried that foreign visitors in particular are being turned off — even turned away — by a trash-talking, tariff-loving commander in chief. And a strong dollar hasn’t helped, making the country harder to afford for many foreigners.

“My tours are getting smaller and smaller,” said Dutch-speaking guide Ruth Roberts, whose typical groups of 30 or so have shrunk to about 17 this summer. Three of her fall groups from Europe have already canceled as well. “The feeling has soured tremendously.”

Isn’t it interesting how the Credentialed Media attempts to find ways to slam the U.S. when a Republican is president?

Back when she was asked where tourists could see Monica Lewinsky’s blue dress, she answered that the Smithsonian does boast a lovely collection of First Ladies’ gowns. Today, when baffled foreigners ask how come Trump is president when Hillary Clinton got more votes, she’s ready with a spiel on the electoral college.

“Fortunately, I read a children’s book about it so I can explain it simply,” she said.

And how to do they respond?

“They say, ‘What a crazy country you are.’ ”

And next time your nation needs rescuing, remember who comes to your aid…..nah, let’s not go down that route, let’s just remember, with virtually every article in major news outlets, that the writers are online and angry, and we can’t know how much is real and how much is just manufactured out of some sort of derangement syndrome. Remember the original article from 2006, and put it in context of the media today.
