TDS: Woman Blames Inability To Open Jars On Donald Trump

No, really

Good grief

It was November 2016 and the only person I knew who believed Trump would win the US election was the owner of my gym. This was clearly a ridiculous prediction so, seeing the chance for some easy money, I offered to bet him $100 that Hillary would win.

But the gym owner, clearly not wanting to do his dough, pointed at this horrible thing in the corner with the name “sled” and said: “If Trump wins you have to pull 70kg on it.” (snip)

After Trump claimed victory, I went up to the gym in a foul mood. “Just fucking load up the fucking sled, all right, and let’s get it over with,” I said without much grace as I strapped a belt around my waist.

I pulled the sled like a human oxen while being filmed and the gym staff cheered. I did it. But the Trump victory soured my successful show of strength.

Yeah, I could pull a pretend sled. But how was that going to help me when the world had been destroyed by nuclear weapons or climate change?

So far, it hasn’t, but, don’t let your derangement go, honey. So, she went to a restaurant and had a bad meal

I never went back. But I also didn’t return to the gym. I associated it now with Donald Trump, the bad meal and pulling the sled.

It was 9 November 2016 and my thinking about fitness changed almost overnight. In tune with the times, it became more Trump, less Obama.

In the spirit of the Donald, I drank more bottles of Diet Coke and ate more McDonald’s. I dropped the gym – embracing Trump’s belief that we are given a certain amount of energy and if we use it then we are depleting a finite resource.

According to the book Trump Revealed: “Trump believed the human body was like a battery, with a finite amount of energy, which exercise only depleted. So he didn’t work out. When he learned that John O’Donnell, one of his top casino executives, was training for an Ironman triathlon, he admonished him, ‘You are going to die young because of this.’”

I didn’t want to die young, so I didn’t go to the gym.

This keeps going on and on and on.

I walked. I this. I that. Months passed. Then a year. Trump was going to be in power for another 1,000 years. Or at least that’s what it felt like. Could I really avoid the gym for the entirety of his presidency?

I missed being strong enough to open jars and carry groceries. So, last week, I returned to the gym, slinking back in as if no time had passed. I hoped that by wearing a puffy jacket and MC Hammer pants I could hide my lack of definition – that I could pretend I had maintained my fitness on my own. At home, running to the building next door. On the couch. While tweeting.

These people. Seriously.  Just insane.

Global Temperature Rise Could Be Double Predicted By Crystal Balls Or Something

Time for some Category 5 scaremongering

Global temperature rises could be double those predicted by climate modelling
Researchers say sea levels could also rise by six metres or more even if 2 degree target of Paris accord met

Temperature rises as a result of global warming could eventually be double what has been projected by climate models, according to an international team of researchers from 17 countries.

Sea levels could also rise by six metres or more even if the world does meet the 2 degree target of the Paris accord.

The findings, published last week in Nature Geoscience, were based on observations of evidence from three warm periods in the past 3.5m years in which global temperatures were 0.5-2 degrees above the pre-industrial temperatures of the 19th century.

Computer models and reconstructions are not observations.

The scientists used a range of measurements to piece together the impacts of past climatic changes to examine how a warmer earth would appear once the climate has stabilised.

They found sustained warming of one to two degrees had been accompanied by substantial reductions of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets and sea level rises of at least six metres – several metres higher than what current climate models predict could occur by 2100.

“During that time, the temperatures were much warmer than what our models are predicting and the sea levels were much higher,” said Katrin Meissner from the University of New South Wales’s Climate Change Research Centre and one of the study’s lead authors.

So, wait, it was supposedly much warmer? What caused that warming, and why are those warm periods different from now?

Meissner said potential changes even at two degrees of warming were underestimated in climate models that focused on the near term.

“Climate models appear to be trustworthy for small changes, such as for low-emission scenarios over short periods, say over the next few decades out to 2100,” she said. “But as the change gets larger or more persistent … it appears they underestimate climate change.”

This can all be fixed with a tax and ceding your freedom to government, you know

“Observations of past warming periods suggest that a number of amplifying mechanisms, which are poorly represented in climate models, increase long-term warming beyond climate model projections,” Prof Hubertus Fischer of the University of Bern, one of the study’s lead authors.

I’d like to see those direct temperature measurements gathered during those times…..oh, right, reconstructions.

Nutty Statue Of Liberty Climber Pleads Not Guilty While Admitting She Climbed Statue Of Liberty

She came to this country legally, doing it the proper way, and became a naturalized citizen, yet seems to be supporting people who would jump the line

Statue of Liberty climber cheered as she pleads not guilty

An unrepentant protester who climbed the base of the Statue of Liberty on a busy Fourth of July in what prosecutors called a “dangerous stunt” pleaded not guilty Thursday to misdemeanor trespassing and disorderly conduct.

Activists packed into a Manhattan courtroom cheered when a federal magistrate judge released Therese Okoumou without bail after she had spent the night behind bars. Okoumou responded by raising her fist and blowing kisses to her supporters.

Outside court, the naturalized U.S. citizen from Congo told reporters that she climbed the landmark as a spur-of-the moment protest over the Trump administration’s zero-tolerance immigration policies that resulted in the separation of immigrant children from parents accused of crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally.

“When they go low, we go high and I went as high as I could,” Okoumou said, paraphrasing former First Lady Michelle Obama. “No children belong in a cage,” she added.

Okoumou, who goes by her middle name, Patricia, sported a T-shirt reading “White Supremacy is Terrorism” that she had worn inside-out in court.

So, wait, she pled not guilty, and then held a press conference explaining that she did, in fact, climb the Statue of Liberty (ruining the day for a lot of people)?

Court papers also charged Okoumou with resisting arrest by refusing to leave her perch by the bottom of the statue’s robes, about 100 feet (30 meters) above ground. Police were forced to scale the statue to pull her down.

If convicted, Okoumou, would face up to six months behind bars on each count.

She’s lucky she’s a naturalized citizen, otherwise she’d be deported.

The park service was reviewing security videotape to try to determine how the woman was able to make the climb, Willis said.

It should be a rather short trial. The prosecution will only need to show two pieces of video: one of her climbing and on the SOL, along with her resisting arrest, and the second will be her own words after her initial court date admitting to climbing the SOL. What, exactly, will her lawyer say?

ClimaScare Today: Rising Seas Could Maybe Possibly Cause $14 Trillion A Year In Damages

Climate change SHOCK: Rising sea levels to wipe out £10 TRILLION in flood damage

A study published by the UK National Oceanographic Centre (NOC) has warned rising sea levels could cost the world economy £10trillion ($14trillion) a year by 2100.

The startling report argued failure to meet the United Nation’s (UN) 2C warming limits could have catastrophic consequences.

The findings were published this week by the NOC in the science journal Environmental Research Letters.

The scientists behind the study fear hundreds of millions of people who reside in low coastal areas are most at risk from rising sea levels.

Countries with upper-middle income like China would likely suffer the biggest burden of the floods while higher-income nations have lower projected damage costs.

Study author Dr Svetlana Jevrejeva, NOC, said: “More than 600 million people live in low-elevation coastal areas, less than 10 metres above sea level.

10 meters equals 32.8 feet. The actual sea rise measurements show that has not been happening. Even a 5 meter rise would be 16.4 feet. That’s also not happening. And won’t happen.

The study found a temperature rise trajectory of just 1.5C by 2100 will see average sea levels rise by up 1.7ft (0.52m).

But exceeding the UN 2C target by 2100 could see waters rise by 2.8ft (0.86m) or 5.9ft (1.8m) in a worst-case scenario.

Dr Jevrejeva said water rising by 2.8ft (0.86m) could see costs mount up to £10trillion ($14trillion) a year or £20.4trillion ($27trillion) in the worst-case scenario.

This can all be fixed with a tax, you know. And giving up all your freedom and allowing Government to dictate how you live your life.

The sea rise over the 20th Century was just 7 inches. Which is exactly average for the Holocene, so, again, way less than expected during a warm period. Sea rise has not been accelerating. This is just scaremongering on something which cannot be actually proven by scientifically gathered data. Just garbage in garbage out crystal balls computer models, the same ones that have failed time after time after time.

Suddenly, Democrats Are Worried About Sanctuary Jurisdictions When It Comes To Gun Control

Did you know that the number of counties in Illinois that have declared themselves sanctuaries from gun grabbing laws has hit 26? And that suddenly the Credentialed Media is wondering if it’s legal

26 Illinois counties have passed ‘gun sanctuary’ resolutions. Are they constitutional?

A “gun sanctuary” trend spreading across Illinois counties in support of Second Amendment rights has raised questions about just who is allowed to decide what is or isn’t constitutional where guns are concerned.

At least 26 of Illinois’ 102 counties have passed “gun sanctuary” resolutions or similar measures. The term is a play on the phrase “sanctuary city,” which describes cities where political and law enforcement leaders limit their cooperation with federal immigration policies and vow to protect immigrant rights.

“Gun sanctuary” advocates say they, too, deserve protection — from lawmakers in the capital pushing for stricter laws on firearms.

So, proponents went to their County Board members and asked them to pass “gun sanctuary” resolutions. In some cases, the resolutions are designed to send a message to Springfield, and in other cases, they promise county employees won’t enforce gun control laws they consider “unconstitutional.”

Lawful gun owners are protected by the US Constitution and the Illinois Constitution (section 22 is rather specific:Subject only to the police power, the right of the individual citizen to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.) There are also sections in both about due process, equal protection, searches, seizures, warrants, etc.

But others say the resolutions bypass the law and create a slippery slope for who decides what is constitutional and what isn’t.

Wouldn’t The Constitution decide what is and isn’t? Rather than politicians with an agenda (who are protected themselves by armed security?)

The discussion continues on and on and on, whereby suddenly there’s this big concern that counties may refuse to enforce state laws that go after the firearm rights of law abiding citizens, which, in most cases, is just sending a message. Which is funny, since there is no right to be an illegal alien in the US Constitution, regardless of what any state Constitution says, since immigration is a specifically designated province of the federal government.

Los Angeles Decides To Spend Even More Money On Illegal Aliens Rather Than Citizens

To the editor: Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and County Supervisor Hilda Solis in December announced the creation of a $10-million legal aid fund to “hire lawyers to defend local immigrants without legal status.” (“A $10-million fund will help immigrants fight deportations. But should it help those with violent criminal convictions?” April 17)

My street hasn’t been swept for years. When I tried to find out why, I was told that my area is not “on the list” because there are no longer enough machines and people to drive them. Services that I continue to pay for have been stopped.

If there is enough money around to help illegal immigrants, surely there is enough to begin sweeping my dirty street again. Shouldn’t citizens come before illegal residents?

In Los Angeles and other Democratic Party sanctuary jurisdictions, no, sorry, you come last, and the LA City council will continue this trend

(CBS LA) The Los Angeles City Council voted on several measures Tuesday regarding what they see as Donald Trump’s agenda against undocumented immigrants and their families.

The council approved the expansion of the L.A. Justice Fund, a collaboration between the city, L.A. County and the California Community Foundation whose purpose it is to provide legal aid “to individuals and families dealing with deportation and removal proceedings in Los Angeles County.”

The additional $10 million approved Tuesday is intended specifically for children in the L.A. area separated from their families due to Trump’s zero-tolerance policy on immigration by undocumented persons. It is estimated more than 100 children in the area have been separated from their parents, AP reported.

The fund is now at $30 million a year. How many residents could be helped by that money? How many homeless Americans could be sheltered and fed?

They also approved joining several legal briefings which are against cracking down on illegal aliens, and

District 1 Councilman Gil Cedillo, who represents the largely immigrant enclaves of Lincoln Heights, Pico Union and Highland Park, among others, introduced a resolution in support of the eliminations of ICE.

“The president’s zero-tolerance policy is repressive and inhumane. His focus should be on fixing our broken immigration system, instead of penalizing refugees seeking asylum,” Cedillo said Tuesday.

Less than 8% of illegals from Central America are being approved for asylum claims, because most simply come from crummy countries, rather than being in dire straights. They’re also just making up claims, because that is what they’ve been taught. And, our system is not broken: we have laws in place that work just fine. It’s the politicians who are broken, as they take the side of illegal aliens over American Citizens, and even use their positions to entice people to come to America illegally.

But, if we want to fix the system

In the latest Harvard/Harris Poll, 77 percent of white voters, 53 percent of black voters, and 51 percent of Hispanic voters said they believe the U.S. needs to crack down on immigration laws.

Overall, 70 percent of Americans said the U.S. needs stricter immigration enforcement, not looser enforcement as Democrats and the Republican establishment has pushed for.

Huh.

Petty BS: Wash Post Totally Worried About Who’s Playing At White House For 4th

The Fourth of July White House concert used to be a sea of stars. For Trump, it’s a drought.

He could barely contain himself. Jimmy Fallon, then just a few months into his new gig as host of “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” stood on the South Lawn for the Obama administration’s first Independence Day celebration in 2009. The comedian was, to use the his own words, “like freaking out.”

“This is amazing. I can’t believe I’m on the White House lawn. This makes no sense,” he said in a taped interview hours before his evening performance.

“I’ll never forget this Fourth of July ever,” continued Fallon, who would perform on the same stage as A-listers such as the Foo Fighters and singer Michelle Branch. “It’s such an honor to be here. I’m so honored. This is so cool.” Okay, okay, we get it, Jimmy. Performing at the White House is like a really big deal. At least it was during the Obama years, when marquee names lined up to take the hot summer stage on the South Lawn with the Mall’s storied fireworks display going off in the background.

Big arena acts such as the Killers, Cedric the Entertainer, Brad Paisley, Pitbull, Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, Janelle Monae and more have performed at the White House’s barbecue, concert and firework viewing party, which is organized by the USO for more than a thousand military troops and their families.

That was then.

This year, taking the stage will be . . . two “American Idol” finalists. As in, not actual winners. Ever heard of Jax? Jonny Brenns? Not ringing a bell? You’re not alone. And there’s also country singer Sara Evans, whose last hit was back when “Lost” was still on the air (that was 2010, for the record, if you can remember that far back).

This is news in the Trump era, folks. Smearing, condescending thinly veiled opinion pieces slurring other Americans who are going to perform. It shows how out of touch the Credentialed Media is when it comes to celebs and middle America.

Classical pianist Lola Astanova, who will also be performing at the Independence Day concert, echoed Jax’s sentiments. “This day goes beyond one president,” Astanova told Women’s Wear Daily. “It’s a way to pay tribute to our troops. That’s really what this concert is about. Presidents come and go, but the Fourth of July and the celebration of our country is really what this event is about,” she continued. “It’s an honor to perform the national anthem at the White House on Independence Day. As a first-generation American, it’s quite meaningful.”

Yeah, maybe some prefer not to have unhinged Democrats threaten them.

Of course, the addition of any performers at 1600 Penn is a step up from last year’s Independence Day event, which had no formal concert schedule. In 2017, the Trumps celebrated America’s birthday with an afternoon picnic for armed service members and their families, and White House staffers and their families later watched the fireworks display.

Perhaps Trump cares more about other things than being a celebrity hobnobbing POTUS. Perhaps he isn’t in to all the pomp and circumstance. Perhaps he realizes that it’s not about him.
