NC Republicans Offer Bill Forcing Sheriff’s To Cooperate With ICE

While many cities, counties, and states are passing legislation stopping cooperation with ICE, North Carolina is going a different way

NC Republicans file bill to force county sheriffs to work with ICE

North Carolina House Bill 370 has a number of sponsors, but most importantly, it has the backing of House Speaker Tim Moore.

It was filed Thursday as a direct push back against the sheriffs in Wake, Durham, Orange, and other urban counties who are fulfilling campaign promises not to work with federal immigration officials.

“This is probably one of the worst things that we think could have happened,” said Mary Jose Espinosa, a civic organizer for El Pueblo, Inc.

HB370 is the legislation advocates, like her, for undocumented immigrants have feared. It would force county sheriffs to work with immigration and customs enforcement or face fines of up to $25,500 a day.

“We have been actively having conversations about worst-case scenarios with all the new sheriffs that have removed 287g from their counties and this was definitely one of those that we definitely did not want to happen,” Espinosa said.

Of course those in favor of illegal immigration would fear this. Every single person in police custody has committed a crime other than being unlawfully present in the U.S. Many of those crimes are rape, sexual assault, child sexual assault, arson, murder, attempted murder, violence, and so many other felonies. These are the people that the Open Border asswipes want released from custody to avoid having the lawfully empowered federal immigration authorities pick up and deport.

Speaker Tim Moore is co-sponsoring the measure with four GOP state representatives.

Moore saying, “If the law-abiding citizens of North Carolina are subject to enforcement of state and federal law, then illegal immigrants detained for committing crimes should be too.”

The law would be primarily aimed at a few specific sheriff’s in NC, like Durham County, Wake County, Mecklenburg County (Charlotte area), and couple other Democrat leaning areas, who do not want to enforce federal laws.

Espinosa insists the Republican-backed measure will only serve to amplify the already overheated fears of the state’s immigrant community.

“There’s people that have been terrorized for the past few weeks,” she said. “And I think our state is very actively making the decision to continue to terrorize these communities.”

Criminals should feel afraid. They’re criminals. When it is passed, though, the Republicans do not have a veto proof majority to override the expected veto by Democrat Gov. Rory Cooper.

Kids Walking Out Of Class For ‘Climate Change’ Have A Manifesto Or Something

It’s interesting that people with manifestos are usually wackos. The person involved with the mosque massacre in New Zealand, who followed the Norwegian terrorist and mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik and Swede Anton Lundin Pettersson. Of course, you also have Karl Max, Lenin, Mao, and others. Now there’s this

A manifesto for tackling the climate change crisis

We’re the UK Student Climate Network. We’re young, we’re students and we’re calling for change. Our movement started in February when tens of thousands of young people took to the streets in towns and cities around Britain, in an unprecedented emergence of a youth climate justice movement.

We’ve joined a movement that’s spreading rapidly across the world, catalysed by the actions of one individual in taking a stand in August last year. Greta Thunberg may have been the spark, but we’re the wildfire and we’re fuelled by the necessity for action.

The climate is in crisis. We will be facing ecological catastrophe and climate breakdown in the very near future if those in power don’t act urgently and radically to change our trajectory. Scientists have been giving increasingly dire warnings about the state of our planet for years, with the urgency and severity of their message escalating in recent times. It’s abundantly clear: change is needed, and it’s needed now!

What do the little brainwashed snowflakes want? First, “Declare a climate emergency.” Then

Education: Our education system is failing us. We’re not being adequately taught about the climate crisis in our classrooms. Schools are not preparing us for the world we’re about to enter, yet still prepare us for jobs and a society based on the system that caused the crisis. We must urgently reform the national curriculum and learn to address the ecological crisis as an educational priority.

So, wait, the leftist run education system is failing them? Huh.

Tell us the facts: The government must also communicate to the general public the severity of the ecological crisis and the necessity to act now. The population cannot be expected to hold those in power to account without the necessary information. Our environment is being destroyed and we have a right to know the facts.

Yes, because we can trust the same government that is failing you, right?

And, of course, the want to lower the voting age

The government must recognise that us, young people have the biggest stake in the future. Legislation must be immediately adopted to lower the voting age to 16 and incorporate youth views into policy making. For too long we’ve been disenfranchised and frozen out of the political system. It’s clear that politics isn’t working. We can’t keep operating within these failing models of civic engagement. Without reconfiguring the way decision making takes place, we’ll be incapable of addressing the climate crisis.

Why 16? Why not 10? 8? 4? Why are their voices being excluded. Bigots!

Backbencher Beto O’Rourke References Normandy In ‘Climate Change’ Diatribe

Beto is turning into the male version of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez with nuttiness. First we have this

(Breitbart) In an appearance on his newly launched campaign for the Democratic Party presidential nomination, former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) argued that the United States could tackle climate change because of its standing as the “indispensable nation.”

O’Rourke invoked the landing on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day during World War II to bolster his argument.

“Now, the current president says he doesn’t believe in climate change. I don’t know how many countries are on the face of the planet — 192, mas o menos,” O’Rourke said. “How can we, who used to be the indispensable nation, be the only country that has removed itself from any obligation to work with anyone on perhaps the most pressing problem. When you think about leadership, those who preceded us — those who were on the beaches in Normandy, those who faced an existential threat to Western democracy and our way of life, they showed us the way. We can all come together. We can unite. We can marshal the resources. And we can convene the countries of the world around otherwise unsolvable problems. That’s who we are. That’s why they call us the indispensable nation. Well, that moment is now for us on this issue. So, if there’s a time to reassert global leadership and make friends instead of enemies, it’s today because the challenges are too great to do otherwise.”

Yikes. That’s some serious moonbattery going on. But, hey, there’s more

While speaking at a coffee shop in Keokuk, IA, 2020 presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke voiced his support for the Green New Deal, echoing socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) in saying the world will end in 12 years if nothing is done.

O’Rourke told the group gathered at the coffee shop that he has not “seen anything better that addresses this singular crisis” that he said “could lead to extinction” than the Green New Deal.

“This is the final chance,” the failed Senate candidate from Texas advised. “The scientists are absolutely unanimous on this — that we have no more than 12 years to take incredibly bold action on this crisis. My gratitude to them for the young people who stepped up to offer such a bold proposal to meet such a grave challenge.”

He concluded, ‘”Not to be melodramatic, but the future of the world depends on us right now here where we are. So, yes, let’s find a way to do this.”

That’s not melodramatic, it’s just insanity. But, then, what else do we expect from Democrats these days, and any member of the Cult of Climastrology?

Hilariously, we also get this

Hinojosa (chairman of the Texas Democratic Party) responded, “I think what Beto O’Rourke has done, particularly in the last senatorial campaign that he ran in 2018, is…show the people of Texas and now the people of America what it means to be an honest politician, an honest person who going to talk about things that are important to families all across this country. You don’t always see that.”

“Pardon me, but Nancy Pelosi was asked today about his biggest accomplishment and she could not really name one, even though he served in the House for a brief time admittedly,” Henry pushed back. “But you are telling me he is an honest politician, that’s his biggest accomplishment?”

Hinojosa was unable to name one thing Beto has done.

49 Dead In Mosque Shooting In New Zealand, CNN Links Trump

This is pretty bad

(Fox News) One person has been charged in connection with a “well-planned” terrorist attack that killed 49 people and injured dozens more in two New Zealand mosques on Friday, authorities said.

The New Zealand police said four people — three men and one woman — were in custody in connection with the mass shooting at both places of worship in the city of Christchurch. The charged male suspect is expected to appear in court Saturday, Police Commissioner Mike Bush told reporters at a news conference. He said the principal suspect was a 28-year-old Australian-born citizen who earlier claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said none of the suspects were on any security watch lists.

“These are people who I would describe as having extremist views, that have absolutely no place in New Zealand,” Ardern said.

He supposedly posted a wacko, rambling, 73 page manifesto online, which no one seems to have a link to, at least that I’ve found, that references ““To take revenge for Ebba Akerlund [a victim of the Stockholm terror attack].”

Of course this has happened

(Newsbusters) Minutes after news broke of a tragic shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand (at what ended up being at least two mosques) during the second hour of CNN Tonight and with almost no information for the shooter or shooters, Intercept columnist Mehdi Hasan claimed that “far-right terrorism” was on the rise in the United States and blamed President Trump for attacks both here and abroad.

After listening to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern deliver a press conference on the shooting, Hasan was the first guest host Don Lemon went to and cited his guest’s Muslim beliefs.

“And I think to kind of talk about the story we talked about before in terms of Trump’s rhetoric as well. Western government has turned a blind eye to domestic terrorism, to domestic far-right terrorism,” Hasan proclaimed.

Hasam continued blaming Trump. And there are plenty of people on Twitter linking/blaming Trump, as you’d expect. Also, blaming gun supporters in the U.S.

And, of course, this twit had to hit the keyboard

She went on to attempt to shift the discussion to the U.S. with several tweets about “hate” in our own communities. And she retweeted one blaming/linking Trump

Nutters.

ICE Finds Ways Around Sanctuary Jurisdictions

This is making Open Borders, illegal alien criminal Democrats livid (via Hot Air)

US immigration agents find ways around ‘sanctuary’ policies

Two years after New Mexico’s largest county barred local law enforcement from cooperating with immigration authorities, its leaders learned that the policy was being subverted from within.

Staff members at the Bernalillo County jail in Albuquerque were still granting immigration authorities access to its database and, in some cases, tipping them off when a person of interest was being released.

“I was surprised and horrified,” said Maggie Hart Stebbins, chairwoman of the Bernalillo County Commission. “Individual employees do not have the freedom to pick and choose what they want to observe.”

The disclosure last month cast a spotlight on an often-overlooked way in which immigration officials around the U.S. may be getting around local “sanctuary” policies — through informal relationships with police and others willing to cooperate when they’re not supposed to. Immigration activists say they have seen it places like Philadelphia, Chicago and several communities in California, which has a statewide sanctuary law.

On Wednesday, for example, the American Civil Liberties Union reported that emails show that a detective in Orange County, California, regularly looked up license plate information for an immigration officer.

“Often people underestimate the informal relationship between ICE and local law enforcement,” said Sara Cullinane, director of the immigrant-rights organization Make the Road New Jersey. She said a major way to make sure immigrant-friendly ordinances are being obeyed is training officers about what they can and cannot do.

It’s rather disturbing that anyone would find it “horrifying” that law enforcement would work together to deal with criminals who are also illegally present in the U.S. Further, it should be horrifying that elected officials are refusing to follow federal law.

Regardless, it is great that law enforcement is finding ways to get around the despicable sanctuary policies in a variety of ways.

Unfortunately, they aren’t able to find ways around all sanctuary policies nor get cooperation

(Breitbart) Two California counties failed to honor ICE detainers for a Salvadoran national before the murder of a woman for which he has now been arrested.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had issued nine detainers for criminal illegal alien Carlos Eduardo Arevalo Carranza, 24, in order to deport him, but Los Angeles and Santa Clara counties each ignored them. Carranza has a “long criminal history,” according to NBC Bay Area. The counties released him every time without notifying ICE.

Carranza was recently arrested for the vicious murder of a 59-year-old woman in San Jose in February.

His more than ten prior convictions over three years include “kidnapping, drug possession, battery on a police officer, trespassing and burglary” according to the report that added he was diagnosed with psychosis in 2016.

It’s long past time for the Federal Department Of Justice to start filing charges, holding jurisdictions, certain law enforcement, and elected officials responsible for the policies that let illegal aliens go who then go on to commit other felonies.

Commissar Bill De Blasio Has A Plan To Save NYC From Hotcoldwetdry Or Something

Fresh off forcing school kids to go meatless on Monday’s, Commissar De Blasio thinks he knows how to save NYC from a tiny rise in seas which is actually less than average

My New Plan to Climate-Proof Lower Manhattan

Six years ago, Hurricane Sandy slammed into New York City. The storm put 51 square miles of it under water. Seventeen thousand homes were damaged or destroyed. Forty-four New Yorkers lost their lives.

We don’t debate global warming in New York City. Not anymore. The only question is where to build the barriers to protect us from rising seas and the inevitable next storm, and how fast we can build them.

On Thursday, I am joining a group of climate scientists and local officials to announce we’re filling one of the biggest gaps in our coastal defenses. We’re going to protect Lower Manhattan, which includes the Financial District, home to a half-million jobs, 90,000 residents, and the nexus of almost all our subway lines.

It will be one of the most complex environmental and engineering challenges our city has ever undertaken and it will, literally, alter the shape of the island of Manhattan.

Of course, there hasn’t been a repeat of Sandy. The Battery on the west side of lower Manhattan has been seeing just .94 feet of sea rise per century, which is less than expected during a Holocene warm period.

All across this country, cities are grappling with the same existential threat. But nowhere in the $4.75 trillion budget President Trump just proposed is there anything approaching a plan to protect our coastal cities from rising seas.

If you’re guessing that there is a lot of whining about Trump throughout the fable from Bill, you’d be correct

The plan we’re announcing will invest a half-billion dollars to fortify most of Lower Manhattan with grassy berms in parks and removable barriers than can be anchored in place as storms approach. But there’s one part of this area that will prove more complex, and more costly, to defend than all the others combined.

South Street Seaport and the Financial District, along the eastern edge of Lower Manhattan, sit so close to sea level — just eight feet above the waterline — and are so crowded with utilities, sewers, and subway lines that we can’t build flood protection on the land. So we’ll have to build more land itself.

What could possibly go wrong?

When we complete the coastal extension, which could cost $10 billion, Lower Manhattan will be secure from rising seas through 2100.

And, of course, Bill wants federal dollars to pay for it. Good luck with that.

The reason we’re forced take dramatic action now is because for years so many in Washington put the profits of Big Oil over the future of our planet. New York City is divesting our pension funds from the fossil-fuel companies who caused this crisis and we’re suing them for refusing to act when they knew the damage it would cause to cities like ours.

NYC literally couldn’t run without fossil fuels. All the private cars, taxis, limos, buses, trucks bringing in all the goods. None of those skyrises could have been built without them. Those bridges are for fossil fueled vehicles. The airports. Bill’s own fossil fueled vehicle which will take him from the Mayor’s house down to southern Manhattan.

The national emergency is already here. We have to meet it head-on. And we need Washington behind us.

Hey, why not just raise taxes on NYC residents? Most of them are like minded Warmists will to pay through the nose on this, right?

Bummer: Maine Becomes Latest State To Reject A Carbon Tax

With the election of new governor, Warmist Janet Mills, Maine seemed poised to make all sorts of ‘climate change’ laws. One got shot down hard

Maine Becomes The Most Recent Blue State To Reject A Carbon Tax

The beginning of March brings bad news for carbon tax supporters, who have been successful in getting legislation to impose the regressive tax introduced at the federal and state levels, but not in getting it enacted, not even in left-leaning, Democratic-run states that should be most inclined to welcome this policy.

A February 28 Maine House Committee on Energy Utilities and Technology hearing on legislation that would impose the nation’s first statewide carbon tax ended with Representative Deane Rykerson (D-Kittery), the legislator sponsoring the bill, announcing that he will pull his proposal and will instead push for a “Carbon Pricing Study Group” that will explore the topic and issue recommendations at a later date. The committee subsequently voted on March 7 against reporting Rykerson’s carbon tax bill out of committee.

In the hours-long hearing on Representative Rykerson’s bill, 60 Maine residents testified in opposition to the proposed carbon tax, explaining the harm that the regressive tax would do to Maine families and employers. Only one person testified in favor of the bill. This strong display of public opposition to a carbon tax was instrumental in killing the bill in committee.

What a bummer.

Though green activists are taking their proposals for new taxes and regulations to the state level, they have been unable to get a carbon tax enacted, even in state legislatures where progressives hold the most sway. Maine becomes the most recent blue state to reject a carbon tax. Legislation to impose a carbon tax has also been introduced in Vermont, Rhode Island, Hawaii, Oregon, and other states, but all have declined to implement one. Americans for Tax Reform has put together a timeline of all the carbon tax proposals that have been rejected both in the U.S. and abroad.

And don’t forget carbon tax initiatives getting shot down not once, but twice in Washington state under Gov Jay Inslee, who’s running for president under the banner of Doing Something about ‘climate change’. Citizens really do not want them.

Democrats Trot Out Bill Requiring Federal Backgrounds Check For Ammunition Purchases

Yet again, they are simply going to make things much more difficult for law abiding citizens

Bill named after Parkland victim Jaime Guttenberg puts background checks on bullets

Last month, Democrats in the House of Representatives passed a plan to expand background checks on gun purchases.

Now, Parkland parent Fred Guttenberg and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz are offering a new plan to require universal background checks on ammunition purchases. The bill is named after Guttenberg’s daughter Jaime, one of 17 students and staff killed on Valentine’s Day last year at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

“We have a gun violence death rate in this country right now of approximately 40,000 per year. It is not normal,” Guttenberg said. “In the time that we do this press conference, somebody will learn they are a victim of gun violence, somebody will be buried who is a victim of gun violence and somebody will be planning the funeral for a victim of gun violence. I am not OK with that.”

The background checks for ammunition would work the same way as background checks for firearms. Every time someone of legal age attempts to purchase ammunition, the buyer would be subject to a background check, which Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy said would take 30 seconds to one minute to complete.

Will it? Or will it take days? Remember, that same firearms background checks bill expands the time for approval from 3 days up to 14, because the way previous law was written was that if a response wasn’t received in 3 days, the background check was approved. And people usually get charged for a background check. Will they get charged for ammo purchases?

“Even though ammunition is every bit as necessary for the operation of a firearm as the firearm itself, federal law does not require a background check to prevent prohibited purchasers from purchasing ammunition,” Wasserman Schultz said. “Jaime’s Law will close this ammo loophole.”

Good grief, “loophole.”

It’s not clear if a group of Republicans who voted to expand background checks on guns last month, including Miami Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, will support Wasserman Schultz’s proposal. Florida Sens. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott have previously said they don’t support bills to expand background checks.

“I don’t know what the implications are, I have to look at it,” Diaz-Balart said when asked if he supports the bill. “Debbie and I have a million disagreements but I respect her as a legislator, so obviously I’ll look at it.”

If you read the legislation (linked in the first excerpt), it is tough to understand, because it’s adding language in and striking language in other federal statures. One part makes it seem like people will get a pass if they have some sort of purchase permit, another makes it seem as if ammo can be sold if for hunting or recreational shooting without a check, yet another makes it seem OK if ammo is sold by a dealer who knows the person isn’t going to use it for criminal acts without a check. What does it all mean? Who knows. It does specifically state that “nothing in this act or amendments shall be construed to authorize the establishment, directly or indirectly, of a national firearms or ammunition registry.”

But, there is a section that seems to give the Attorney General wide lattitude to create whatever rules the AG wants to make based on the legislation.

Oh, it also seems to make it possible to purchase ammunition without a backgrounds check when it will be elusively used for ….. fishing (page 6 line 9). Who uses a gun to go fishing? Hey, if this passes (it won’t even make it to the floor of the Senate) we can all claim we’re going fishing when we need ammo!
