Hot Take: Trump’s Grip On DOJ Doomed Meuller’s Investigation

Intercept “reporter” Jim Risen has a new conspiracy theory for why the Mueller investigation failed to end with Trump being frogmarched out of the White House. He actually started yapping about it back on the 7th, but, The Hill ran some video of this today. Leftist nutters will never give up on their nutbaggery

Did Donald Trump’s Grip on the Justice Department Sabotage Robert Mueller’s Investigation?

THROUGH HIS UNRELENTING efforts to obstruct the Trump-Russia investigation since its inception, President Donald Trump has inflicted a slow-motion Saturday Night Massacre on the American people, a constitutional nightmare that has lasted two years instead of one night.

And it is still going on, despite the fact that special counsel Robert Mueller has completed his investigation. Trump now has a willing lackey in Attorney General William Barr, who is aiding and abetting the president’s ongoing efforts to control the Justice Department and corrupt the country’s system of checks and balances. (snip)

Much of the carnage is documented in the second volume of the Mueller report, which focuses on obstruction of justice. Mueller recounts Trump’s nonstop efforts to block the Trump-Russia investigation and details the firings, threats, and intimidation tactics Trump used to pressure key figures involved in the probe.

But Mueller may not have captured every aspect of Trump’s Saturday Night Massacre. That’s because Trump’s threats to fire the special counsel — combined with the president’s incessant public and private pressure on Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the Justice Department official who supervised Mueller’s investigation — may have influenced both what is in the special counsel’s narrow and hesitant report, and what is conspicuously absent.

See, it was Trump who made Mueller find that there were no reasons to charge Trump with obstruction. And this line of thought keeps going and going and going. They just can’t admit that their attempted coup failed.

Overheated Planet: Who’s Up For May Snow?

So, weather happens

Winterlike weather pattern tightens grip on Northeast, unloading snow in some areas

Winter is making a mid-May comeback in the northeastern United States early this week as snow returned to some areas with cold and rainy weather in other parts of the region.

The air was even cold enough for snow to whiten the Catskill Mountains in southeastern New York and the Berkshires in western Massachusetts.

Slushy and slippery spots along the Massachusetts Turnpike in the Berkshires prompted officials to dramatically reduce the speed limit on Sunday. The trace of snow that fell in Albany, New York, on Sunday, the National Weather Service (NWS) said, was the latest snow to fall on a Mother’s Day since 1977, when Mother’s Day occurred on May 8.

And then

So, of course, it’s the fault of Trump and ‘climate change’

Comrade De Blasio Trolled While Pimping His Green New Deal, AOC Forgets She Isn’t Demanding A Vote On Hers

Monday was Green New Deal day or something. In NYC we had really, really rich guy showing that this really is all about politics, and getting trolled

De Blasio event to attack Trump on climate change turns into spectacle

An event designed to capture national attention for Mayor Bill de Blasio’s environmental record turned into a spectacle Monday, days before he’s expected to announce his decision on a White House run.

The news conference, held in the lobby of Trump Tower, was designed to put the president “on notice,” de Blasio said, for the pollution emitted by Trump’s buildings. But the event, moved inside at the last minute due to rain, was more of a circus than a rally. Much of the mayor’s roughly eight-minute speech was drowned out by music played at curiously high volumes in the lobby, protesters shouting, “You suck,” among other profanities, and several people riding the escalators behind the mayor, toting signs that read “Trump 2020” and “Worst Mayor Ever.”

The din was so loud, de Blasio had to leave his lectern and request reporters walk forward just so he could hear their questions.

https://twitter.com/KTHopkins/status/1128013201373847554

Comrade Bill decided that it was a good idea to make Trump and Trump Tower the face of his Green New Deal attacks, and when even Politico notices the politics involved, you can tell this is all about politics, not “the environment.”

That message was somewhat blunted when the mayor was unable to name any other landlords with high-emissions buildings and when it was revealed de Blasio had been driven to the event — a sore spot for a mayor who has been criticized for regularly riding a gas-guzzling SUV to his local gym.

So, yeah, this is all politics. Just like the majority of the ‘climate change’ movement. And then we have Squeeky

Ocasio-Cortez chides Dems over lack of Green New Deal support

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told a packed room of climate change activists at an event which also featured Sen. Bernie Sanders that voting Democrat isn’t enough if they want to pass a Green New Deal.

“I am not here to tell you that all Democrats are good and all Republicans are bad and that if you simply elect someone with a ‘D’ next to their name that our problems will be solved,” the Bronx congresswoman at a Washington, D.C. event for the Sunrise Movement.

“Because I’ve been in that chamber, I’ve been told by people on both sides of the aisle that we need to frack more that we need to build more pipelines both sides of the aisle,” she continued. (snip)

“And I will be damned if the same politicians who refuse to act then are going to try and come back today and say we need a middle-of-the-road approach to save our lives,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “That is too much for me.”

Yet, she refuses to demand a vote on her GND resolution in the House, had a hissy fit over the vote in the Senate, and has even said that “it’s messaging focused and was never meant to be passed”.

US Attorney Appointed To Investigate How FBI Probe Of Trump Probe

This is going to make many Democrats, especially those in the FBI and intelligence communities, and quite possibly high ranking people like James Comey, Obama appointees, and Obama, very uncomfortable

Attorney General William Barr Appoints US Attorney to Look into Origins of FBI Probe

Attorney General William Barr has assigned the United States attorney in Connecticut to look into the origins of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s probe into the Trump campaign, according to reports.

Barr has appointed John Durham for the assignment, according to the New York Times. Durham has a history of investigating potential wrongdoing among national security officials.

Barr sent shockwaves through Washington after he acknowledged earlier this year during a hearing that he would review the origins of the FBI’s investigation into the Trump campaign, and again when he referred to those activities as “spying.”

Specifically, he has said he wants to review whether the FBI had appropriate predicate for spying on the Trump campaign, for example, when it sought a surveillance warrant against former campaign adviser Carter Page.

Barr’s assignment of Durham may indicate that his review of the origins warrants further investigation and action.

So much of the investigation seemed to be based on false information, such as the Trump dossier, which the FBI seemed to understand was, at best, shoddy. Yet, they still did it. Remember, Mueller stated that they couldn’t find any American who colluded/conspiracy with Russia. No Trump associate was charged with anything to do with conspiracy/collusion. Just old stuff and/or process crimes. They wouldn’t be looking at process crimes if there was no process, which was based on a lie. On Democrat dirty tricks.

Say, Could Sheriff Joe’s Views On ‘Climate Change’ Kill His Candidacy?

Obviously, Democrats are just fine with his racist comments, bigoted comments, uselessness as Obama’s VP, using his position to enrich his family members, his conflicts of interest, his gropey hands, and so much more. Nope

Could climate change submerge Joe Biden’s presidential bid?

Climate change is transforming life by redrawing coastlines, turning vast areas of forest into infernos, stirring enormous storms and spreading exotic diseases. An indirect casualty of this upheaval could be Joe Biden’s hopes of becoming US president.

Biden, frontrunner in the polls to secure the Democratic nomination, has not laid out a plan to address the crisis.

This is set to change, according to Reuters, with the Biden campaign working on a strategy to reinstate climate policies torn down by Donald Trump, such as restrictions on coal-fired power plants and vehicle fuel efficiency requirements. (snip)

But this “middle ground” approach has been roundly attacked by environmental groups and progressive Democrats for being woefully insufficient.

More importantly, it does not appear to chime with the urgent action scientists say is required to avert disastrous climate change. A landmark UN report last year stated that “unprecedented”, “rapid and far-reaching” transformations across energy, land use and transportation are needed to avoid increasingly dire flooding, wildfires, heatwaves, food insecurity and unrest.

“A ‘middle ground’ policy that’s supportive of more fossil fuel development is a death sentence for our generation and the millions of people on the frontlines of the climate crisis,” said Varshini Prakash, director of the Sunrise Movement, a youth climate change organization allied to progressive Democrats such as the New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Will this kill his prospects? I’d like to say it is idiotic to consider this, but, then, look at the Democratic Party these days and the nuts who will be voting in the primaries.

Say, Is Canada’s Carbon Tax Enough To Fight Hotcoldwetdry?

You know what the answer will be, right? At least they aren’t yammering about it being a “free market” solution

IS CANADA’S CARBON TAX ENOUGH TO FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE?

As Canada’s 2019 Federal election looms closer, carbon pricing has shown itself to be a highly contested and divisive issue. Since the Federal Liberals announced their carbon pricing plan, it’s dominated the conversation surrounding climate change.

The NDP and Greens back the Federal Liberal’s proposal, whereas the Conservatives do not, meaning the issue has fallen down a left/right, partisan split.

Among experts, there’s a policy consensus that carbon pricing should play an integral role in moving the world towards decarbonization. Unfortunately, the political sphere is lagging behind, primarily due to Provincial and Federal Conservative resistance.

Or, it could be that people, even Warmists, heck, especially Warmists, do not want to pay very much out of their own pockets.

Due to the divisiveness of carbon pricing, there has been significantly less coverage paid to other focal points of reducing emissions. While carbon pricing represents an important aspect of a successful climate change plan, it must be accompanied by a host of other incentives, initiatives, and investments. Without a comprehensive plan, Canada won’t be able to meet the Paris Climate Accord targets, let alone become a global leader on climate change.

So, what are they thinking?

First, eliminating fossil fuel subsidies and replacing them with renewable energy subsidies will provide industry incentives without undermining carbon pricing. This is an area Canada is particularly weak on, as Trudeau has continued his predecessor’s trend of providing minuscule funding for the renewable industry.

Tax breaks are not subsidies. But, hey, go ahead and jack up gas prices, and see how the elections go.

There are also certain social policies that can be implemented to help cut down emissions. Expanding public transit, lowering the cost, or making it free to use encourages reductions in transportation-related greenhouse gases (GHG), the second largest contributor in Canada. Increasing electric vehicle (EV) rebates and expanding charging stations are also successful ways of reducing GHG from the transportation sector. Creating more stringent energy efficiency standards in construction, and providing significant funding for retrofit programs can help reduce the amount of energy required for heating and cooling.

So, force everyone into public transit, hook up rich people with rebates and charging stations for their expensive EVs, and make it more expensive to buy a home and maintain it.

Finally, it’s about time politicians address agricultural emissions. The production of meat is not only energy and water intensive, but also produces vast quantities of methane, which is far more dangerous to the climate than carbon dioxide. Promoting non-meat alternatives through subsidies or research and development funding could help expand consumer’s food choices.

Government nags, followed by government regulation.

Carbon pricing is far from a blanket solution to climate change, but it offers an opportunity to use market-based tools to address the world’s most pressing issue.

They didn’t use the word “free”, at least. And this would be the government market. Remind me what kind of political system that is?

Warmists Sue Australia For Violating Human Rights Or Something

A relatively new tactic to attempt to do….something. They don’t really say what

Complaint Charges Australia with Human Rights Violations over Climate Change

A group of indigenous Australians have brought a legal complaint against the Australian government for violating their human rights by contributing to climate change.

The complaint, filed by indigenous people from the Torres Strait Islands to the United Nations Human Rights Committee, alleges the government’s inadequate response to the climate crisis is a violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), the world’s oldest human rights treaty. It is the first climate change case in Australia based on human rights claims and it is believed to be the first in the world brought by residents of low-lying islands against a national government.

The Torres Strait Islands are located between the northern tip of Queensland, Australia and the southern edge of Papua New Guinea. Climate change threatens the islands, which experience regular flooding because of sea level rise, and the islanders’ sacred cultural sites.

Fearing that their home and way of life could disappear, the Torres Strait Islanders are seeking legal recourse. Eight islanders from four different islands submitted their complaint on Monday. The Human Rights Committee monitors nations’ compliance with the ICCPR. The islanders’ complaint alleges that Australia violated their rights under the treaty, including the right to life and culture and the right to be free from arbitrary interference with privacy, family and home.

Notice that the link for “threatens the island” actually doesn’t offer proof, just a link to the groups petition. Nor is any actual scientific proof offered anywhere. What is the actual sea rise in that area? I’ve been searching, and can’t find any actual data anywhere. Let me know if you do. Most northern Australia stations are limited in term, same with Papau New Guinea. New Zealand helps a tiny bit. The whole area seems to be below one foot of rise a century, which is less than one would expect for a Holocene warm period. A UK Guardian scaremongering article even admitted “The precise sea level rise around the Torres Strait, and the projected inundation, has not been calculated…” They haven’t scientifically proven that this is all caused by Mankind, just assumed it. Usually because they want money.

A decision by the Human Rights Committee would not be legally binding, but could exert significant moral pressure on the Australian government to comply.

OK, so no more use of fossil fuels for the islanders? They’re cool with bringing stuff in by sailing ship?

The Torres Strait Islanders’ case is part of a growing global climate justice movement seeking to hold governments and fossil fuel companies accountable. The first successful climate lawsuit came when Dutch citizens won a ruling in 2015 compelling the government of the Netherlands live up to its promised emissions reductions. That case inspired others, including the landmark youth-led case Juliana v. United States. The Philippines Commission on Human Rights is also investigating the role of 47 fossil fuel corporations in causing climate change and potentially violating human rights. Another Pacific island nation, Vanuatu, has indicated interest in pursuing climate liability litigation against fossil fuel companies and the governments that support them.

And yet these same people keep using fossil fuels in their own lives. Go figure.

Washington Post: Republicans “Seize” On Rep. Tlaib’s Holocaust Remarks

Now, just imagine that it was a Republican making really bad remarks about Israel and the Holocaust: would the WP be yammering about “seizing”, or be blasting the Republican? Especially if the Republican was already accused of being anti-Israel and anti-Jew? Seriously, this is bad, really bad. Look at the way it starts

Republicans criticize Tlaib over remarks on Holocaust, Israel

House Republican leaders took aim at Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) on Sunday for a podcast interview in which she discussed her support for a one-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

In an interview on Yahoo News’s “Skullduggery” podcast published Saturday, Tlaib was asked about her position on the issue. The freshman lawmaker began her response by noting that the United States commemorated Holocaust Remembrance Day two weeks ago. She then discussed her Palestinian ancestors and the founding of the state of Israel, saying she was “humbled by the fact that it was my ancestors that had to suffer” to create a safe haven for the Jewish people.

“There’s, you know, there’s a kind of a calming feeling, I always tell folks, when I think of the Holocaust and the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the fact that it was my ancestors — Palestinians — who lost their land and some lost their lives, their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence, in many ways, had been wiped out. . . . I mean, just all of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust, post-the tragedy and the horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time,” Tlaib said.

She added that the events of the past have informed her views on how to approach a solution to the conflict.

“I love the fact that it was my ancestors that provided that [safe haven], in many ways,” Tlaib said. “But they did it in a way that took their human dignity away, right? And it was forced on them. And so, when I think about one-state, I think about the fact that, why couldn’t we do it in a better way?”

By starting off with Republicans criticizing, it’s putting the burden on Republicans, rather than Tlaib. As Joel B. Pollack points out

In reality, the major Palestinian leadership figure of the time, Hajj Muhammad Amin al-Husseini, collaborated with Nazi Germany, and Palestinians violently opposed Jewish immigration — before, during, and after the Second World War.

Tlaib also made the awkward remark that “[t]here’s always kind of a calming feeling I tell folks when I think of the Holocaust,” meaning that she felt reassured about the “fact” [sic] that Palestinians had helped Jews (they did not).

Tlaib brought up the Holocaust on her own, by way of defending her call for the destruction of Israel through the creation of a single Palestinian state.

Rep. Liz Cheney responded to Tlaib

“I call on Speaker Pelosi and Leader Hoyer to finally take action against Representative Tlaib and other members of the Democratic caucus who are spreading vile anti-Semitism,” she said, referring to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.). “All of us, regardless of party, must stand as Americans against the evil of anti-Semitism. If the Democratic leadership continues to stand by in silence, they are enabling the spread of evil.”

But, the article spends most of its time finding Democrats to defend Tlaib, even throwing in

Denzel McCampbell, Tlaib’s spokesman, condemned Cheney’s statement as “dangerous.” Cheney was the first GOP leader to criticize Tlaib on Sunday.

So, it’s Cheney who’s dangerous, rather than the anti-Israel comments of Tlaib? Back to Pollack

The article neglected to mention the other “context” — that this remark was hardly the first anti-Israel or antisemitic statement by Tlaib.

Well, don’t expect Pelosi to do anything, not when she allowed an anti-Israel/anti-Jew Imam to give the invocation in the House last week. And second to last paragraph of the WP article

The episode marks the second time in recent weeks Republicans have seized on out-of-context remarks by a freshman Democratic lawmaker.

Seized.
