Hot Take: Republicans Love Of Guns Driven By Insecurities, Reactionary Fantasies, And, Of Course, Raaaaacism

Gun grabbers always have some sort of hot take when it comes to firearms, and always miss the mark, but Excitable Noah Berlatsky at NBC News does get this partially right

Trump and Republicans don’t hate gun control because of the NRA. They just love guns.
American gun culture is driven by a complex mix of reactionary fantasies, racism and insecurity — not campaign donations.

“Democrats say we have guns in America because of ‘corruption,'” former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders declared on Twitter on Sept. 12. “No, we have guns because it’s our God-given right enshrined in the Constitution.”

The second part of that tweet is silly; God didn’t give people the right to own AR-15s any more than a divine entity gave Americans the right to own automobiles without seat belts. The first part of Sanders’ tweet, though, is mostly accurate. The National Rifle Association’s money doesn’t corrupt Republican legislators. Instead, Republicans oppose gun control because conservative political identity is today inseparable from guns. Identity is a deeper motivator than money, and, for those who want to end gun violence, a more intransigent one. (snip through all sorts of money talk)

So if money isn’t leading Republicans to stonewall gun control legislation, what is? The answer is straightforward: Gun ownership and Republican identity have become inseparable. The most passionate Republican voters see guns as a central part of who they are.

And Noah goes on to blame raaaaacism, anti-illegal alien fervor, and even having a religious meaning. But, he is right, the NRA is not driving the “gun culture”, they’re just protecting our Rights. Most of us have a firearm because we want to, because we can, and because we want protection. Because they’re fun to fire. Did I mention “because we are Constitutionally allowed and the government needs to mind their own business for the law abiding”?

This distinction is important, because it suggests what gun control solutions won’t work, and which ones might. Tightening campaign finance regulations or getting big money out of politics, as Elizabeth Warren has promised, is not likely to reduce pro-gun sentiment among Republicans. The NRA’s ongoing financial difficulties aren’t likely to affect Republican votes much either. On the other hand, fighting voter suppression and enfranchising poor and minority voters who lean Democratic, and don’t base their identities on guns, could change the playing field significantly.

Most of all, we need to recognize that on guns, the two parties are diametrically opposed. Many Republican politicians (and voters) see any kind of gun control — whether background checks or a ban on assault rifles — as an existential threat. If Democrats want gun control, they need to win elections. Republicans aren’t going to compromise

Strange, that almost seems like Excitable Gun Grabber Noah is saying that if Democrats are elected that they’ll come for our guns in violation of the U.S. Constitution. And then Gun Grabbers wonder why we won’t compromise on anything.

Climate Kids File U.N. Complaint Against Five Countries

It’s a good thing they all took fossil fueled trips to the United Nations

Greta Thunberg & Allies File Climate Complaint Against 5 Countries (Not China)

Swedish teen climate alarmist Greta Thunberg and 15 other children filed a complaint with the United Nations on Monday, accusing five countries of inaction on combatting so-called climate change.

The complaint, filed with the U.N. Committee on the Rights of the Child, accuses Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, and Turkey of failing to fulfill their obligations to act against climate change, placing them in violation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, a three-decade-old human rights treaty which sets out the “civil, political, social, and cultural rights of children.

“Change needs to happen now if we are to avoid the worst consequences. The climate crisis is not just the weather. It means also, lack of food and lack of water, places that are unlivable and refugees because of it. It is scary,” Thunberg said in a statement upon announcing the complaint.

The 16 petitioning children range from 8 to 17 years old and hail from Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, India, Marshall Islands, Nigeria, Palau, South Africa, Sweden, Tunisia, and the United States.

The complaint was filed through the Third Optional Protocol, a mechanism which allows children to formally request the U.N. take action regarding the petitioner’s cause of choice.

The complaint does not name China, which accounts for 30 percent of global emissions, because it has not signed the part of the Convention on the Rights of the Child treaty allowing children to seek justice for breaching the agreement. The establishment media over the weekend remained silent on Beijing’s ban of Climate Strike events throughout the country, despite the participation of over 150 counties raising awareness for purported “global warming.”

I think it would be fun to make the kids live the Cult of Climastrology life they are advocating. Take away their smartphones. Limit their use of the Internet because energy would be very, very expensive, as well as unreliable. Hand wash and line dry their clothes. Put a two minute timer on their showers. All those energy drinks go bye bye. If they want to go somewhere they can take the bus if their parents cannot afford a Tesla. They have to live in a tiny home. No burgers, fries, or pizza with meat toppings. Cheese would be very expensive, since cow populations get wiped out. Etc and so on. Oh, wait, right, 50% of their allowance is taken for The Government in taxes/fees.

And here’s one of the other kiddos

Months After Paradise Fire Triggered Her Asthma, Teen Activist Goes to UN Climate Summit

As fires ravaged the town of Paradise last year, killing 86 people and destroying 15,000 homes in Northern California, smoke seeped south into Davis. Face masks were distributed, but they were not impenetrable, and smoke inhalation began to overwhelm many, including Alexandria Villaseñor whose asthma was triggered.

“I remember being so scared thinking about how if I stood outside for too long, I could collapse and it would be over,” the 14-year-old climate activist said.

Villaseñor had recently moved to New York City from Davis, and was in her home state visiting family when the deadliest fire in California history ignited. She was soon sent back to New York, where she wound up in the emergency room after her asthma continued. There, she began to research wildfires and their connection to climate change.

Less than a month later, she sat outside the United Nations, joining 16-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg in a solidarity protest of global governmental inaction in addressing the climate crisis. Villaseñor said she’s been out there every Friday since for the past 41 weeks — through snow, sleet, rain and the polar vortex — while working to mobilize students throughout the country to join the fight.

So, see, because a fire that was caused by downed transmission lines, which many are blaming on incompetence of the power company, supposedly triggered her asthma, the rest of us are supposed to give in and allow Government to control our lives. Riiiiiiiight.

The Green New Deal Can Help Us Fight White Supremacy Or Something

I’m starting to get the idea that the Green New Deal has absolutely nothing to do with man-caused climate change

The Green New Deal Can Help Us Fight White Supremacy

“We had a direct existential threat with…Nazi Germany,” Rep. Ocasio-Cortez said at a 2018 event. “We chose to mobilize our entire economy…. We have to do the same thing in order to get us to 100 percent renewable energy.” She was promoting a Green New Deal, but her war analogy eerily fit our current political situation.

The left is facing a two-front struggle: On one side is capitalism wrecking the planet; on the other, a rising fascism stoking people into a fever of racism and xenophobia. How do we face this?

The Green New Deal can help us fight both crises — global warming and white supremacy. The mass mobilization that democratic socialists like Sen. Bernie Sanders call for demands a deep transformation that is cultural and economic. It can help end the cycle of violence in poor communities of color and help end “deaths of despair” in poor white ones. It might even ease white anxiety about a multicultural future. The Green New Deal, or a similar project, has the potential to bring society together in order to face humanity’s greatest enemy — a catastrophe of our own making.

There’s quite a bit of Crazy and racial grievance in the following paragraphs, but, let’s skip ahead

The 21st-century Green New Deal would need a similar — in fact, a much deeper — commitment to a new labor integration. It has to follow through on the promise that the future has a place for everyone, especially including the country’s most marginalized people. One route to such a transformation was mapped by social psychologist Henri Tajfel in his social identity theory. The theory argues that we must decenter materialism, white supremacy and patriarchy; meanwhile we must center labor, specifically working in green energy to save the planet. We must encourage the sense of a collective mission, as people accomplish the Herculean task of healing a damaged Earth.

But, see, this is all about ‘climate change’, not far left Modern Socialism (which is technically on the far right in the Fascism model)

Calling people from the small towns, the trailer parks and public housing, the suburbs and the cities into a collective Earth front would give us a chance to win breathing space for our species. We could work to save what’s left of the planet. We could save ourselves from our own history.

You will comply, Comrades.

Humorously, most of the leaders of this cult are lilly white

In Forced Buy-Back Scheme, How Do You Round Up All Those Guns?

The Associated Press’ Lisa Marie Pane asks an important question

In gun buyback talk, how do you round up so many weapons?

Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke’s recent vow to take away people’s AR-15 and AK-47 rifles raised one big question: How is it possible to round up the millions of such guns that exist in the United States?

The number of AR-15 and AK-47s in the U.S. is estimated at a staggering 16 million, creating logistical challenges to take them out of circulation. Many gun owners are also unwilling to turn over the weapons, and if the government offered to buy them all back at face value, the price tag could easily run into the billions of dollars.

O’Rourke’s pointed declaration during a recent debate — “Hell yes, we’re gonna take your AR-15, your AK-47” — stoked longstanding fears among gun owners that Democrats are less interested in safety or finding a middle ground, and just want to confiscate guns. Even some gun-control advocates aren’t so sure that confiscating firearms will work.

(discussion of Democrat confiscation policies)

Democratic candidates pushing gun buybacks have also pointed to similar moves in Australia and New Zealand. However, the number of AR-style long guns in those countries pales in comparison to the United States, and neither has gun rights enshrined in their constitutions.

In those two countries they banned most privately owned firearms, not just those scary “assault weapons”.

Chipman believes an assault weapon ban should be handled similar to the machine gun rules, requiring they be registered and heavily regulated but not confiscated.

“I think it would be far more likely that we would find more of the weapons under comprehensive regulation by the government than sort of a forced buyback ban scenario,” he said.

There’s also the optics of the government taking away guns, presenting another challenge for the Democratic proposals.

The idea of outlawing and then rounding up firearms alarmed many gun owners who believe it will not solve the problem of gun violence and would only serve to take firearms away from law-abiding Americans. They point out that while AR-style guns have been used in some high-profile mass shootings, most gun deaths involve handguns.

“Once you start talking about taking guns away, especially legally owned firearms by responsible gun owners, you’re just going to alienate a whole huge portion of American citizens. They’re just not going to stand for that,” said Chris Waltz, the president and CEO of AR-15 Gun Owners of America. “This is what they feared.”

So, one proposal is simply to make them highly regulated to attempt to get them registered, which would make it easier to confiscate later. See, again, that registration part is what was missing from Australia and New Zealand banning weapons. It’s been reported that only 20% of firearms were turned in when Australia banned them in the late 1990’s, and the number of weapons turned in in New Zealand has been rather low.

Even some self-identified liberals who own firearms question the legality of gun confiscation and even the practicality.

“Constitutional rights aren’t based on what you like. What’s the slippery slope of this?” said Lara C. Smith, the national spokeswoman for the Liberal Gun Club, a nonprofit group of liberal gun owners. “If they’re going to take away these rights, what other rights are they going to take away?”

And this hardcore push will drive liberals away from voting in 2020. They may not vote for Trump and Republicans, but, they won’t be giving their vote to Democrats. And it is a slippery slope. And, Democrats keep moving the goal posts. But, they’ve said it when they started talking about the Australian solution even before the 2016 election.

Climate Nutters Plan To Shut Down D.C. Commute This Morning

This should surely endear their cause to ordinary people, right? Especially since many who are commuting into D.C. vote Democrat already

(USA Today) Activists calling for action on climate change were disrupting morning commutes across Washington, D.C., Monday morning, just days after hundreds of thousands demonstrated alongside school children for Global Climate Strike rallies.

Shut Down D.C. aimed to “disrupt the systems that created and perpetuate the climate crisis” and block key intersections across the city to disrupt traffic.

Videos posted on social media showed protesters waving flags and tied to cars donned with banners that had messages like “ROAD CLOSED CLIMATE EMERGENCY” in the middle of major intersections. Police appeared to be breaking up some of the blockades.

The group said on its website that demonstrators would meet early Monday at four locations across the city, which are near high volume intersections, busy metro lines and Union Station.

Intersections including Massachusetts Avenue and North Capitol, New York Avenue and I-395, and 2nd Street SE and Independence Avenue were planned to be disrupted, and the group also was also planning to gather near the White House, Capitol Hill and ICE headquarters, the Washingtonian reported.

You’re getting things like this (#shutdowndc is trending)

What are they shutting down? There’s no traffic. But, there are other places where they are causing problems

Bummer: So-Called Ukraine Issue Whistleblower Made Claim On Hearsay

Ukraine Ukraine Ukraine just doesn’t have the ring of Russia Russia Russia, but, it’s going to end the same way: a big nothingburger against President Trump. But, it could end up hurting Joe Biden and his son. And Obama. But, hey, CNN was nice enough to commit a random act of journalism, though they tried to bury it

(Daily Caller) The anonymous White House whistleblower suggesting President Donald Trump had an inappropriate conversation with a foreign power now known to be Ukraine reportedly made that claim based on hearsay.

Fox News’ senior political analyst Brit Hume noted Saturday how CNN admitted that the political firestorm is all based on a whistleblower, thought to be a White House intelligence agent, with second-hand information:

The CNN story cited by Hume suggests, “It is hard to see how any of this ends well” but doesn’t mention the whistleblower’s precarious grip on his inside information until the reader is deep within the report.

“The whistleblower didn’t have direct knowledge of the communications, an official briefed on the matter told CNN. Instead, the whistleblower’s concerns came in part from learning information that was not obtained during the course of their work, and those details have played a role in the administration’s determination that the complaint didn’t fit the reporting requirements under the intelligence whistleblower law, the official said.”

That last bit is directly from the CNN piece, which is a rather important point, wouldn’t you say? But, they waited till paragraph 22 to post it. It’s almost like they didn’t want you to know that the allegations are, charitably, based on the whistleblowers office mate’s friend’s coworkers sister’s Twitter feed or something

(Fox News) Rudy Giuliani channeled President Trump Monday with a wee-hours Twitter blitz aimed at turning the Ukraine story currently roiling Washington into a big problem for Democrats.

Giuliani, the personal attorney for Trump and outspoken critic of Joe Biden and his son’s relationship with Ukraine, accused Kiev of laundering $3 million to Hunter Biden, suggested that the Obama administration turned a blind eye and made the prediction that the scandal is in its infancy.

“If Dem party doesn’t call for an investigation of Bidens’ millions from Ukraine and billions from China, they will own it,” he tweeted. “Bidens’ made big money selling public office. How could Obama have allowed this to happen? Will Dems continue to condone and enable this kind pay-for-play?”

Regardless of your opinion of Rudy, he does have a few salient points. And, for all the focus on Trump, are any reporters attempting to dig in to what the Biden’s did in Ukraine? It’s not actually a new story, but, it’s like the people who get paid to report the news are avoiding the answers intentionally. But, as long as they continue to cover this one sided, what the Biden’s did will cause people to use the ‘net to look up what the non-traditional media have already uncovered. And make Biden look bad.

Say, Why Does Big Oil Have Such Power In The Fight Against Hotcoldwetdry?

Advance Media’s Jonathan D. Salant is rather vexed by this

Why big oil has so much power in Washington as it fights climate change activists

More than 600 people are registered to lobby for Exxon Mobil, Chevron and the rest of the oil and gas industry in Washington. That’s more than one for each member of Congress.

During the first six months of 2019, big oil spent $63.5 million to lobby. Only three industries have spent more, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a research group.

Also this year, the industry has made $19 million in campaign contributions, 89 percent to Republican candidates and committees. That’s the seventh highest, according to the center.

That’s the juggernaut facing off against efforts to reduce fossil fuels in order to curb carbon emissions contributing to climate change.

See, this is all part of “Covering Climate Now, a global collaboration of more than 220 news outlets to strengthen coverage of the climate story.” What they aren’t covering is a very easy notion: Big Oil has power because 1) they are a legal industry that is Constitutionally guaranteed to be able to speak freely, petition the government for redress of grievance, and protest peaceably, and 2) because people are unwilling to give up their fossil fueled autos, including most Warmists. Which includes the papers listed with Advance Media owned NJ.com, and those 220 news outs, many who need them to distribute their dead tree editions.

When Warmists start giving up their own use of fossil fuels an masse I will start believing they really think it is a crisis. How many kids took a fossil fueled trip to the protests Friday?

It’s fun how Warmists always attempt to deny people their ability to the speak out, eh?
