Unintended Consequences: SNAP Benefits Now Include Rotisserie Chicken

John Fetterman, seemingly the only sane Democrat, had been pushing hard for this for weeks. And

House votes to allow rotisserie chicken food stamps purchases

unintended consequencesThe House voted to allow rotisserie chicken food stamp purchases on Thursday in an amendment to the broader farm bill.

The measure cleared the lower chamber with a vote of 384-35 with bipartisan support.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funds have long been constrained to items that recipients can cook at home.

It now has to pass the Senate as part of a larger farm bill, because Congress apparently can’t just pass a simple bill anymore. So, who were the 35 who refused to vote for this? Well, let’s see

(Gothamist) House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries joined two other local (NY) Democrats on Thursday to vote against a bipartisan bill to ensure rotisserie chickens are covered by the federal food stamp program.

The House voted 384-35 to pass the legislation. Jeffries was among those who argued the bill wasn’t broad enough and should have allowed all hot food.

“SNAP recipients should be able to use their benefits to buy any hot or prepared food at the supermarket,” Jeffries spokesperson Andy Eichar said in a statement. “Leader Jeffries supports comprehensive legislation sponsored by Congresswoman Grace Meng that would modernize outdated policies to allow that to occur. We need full-scale reform, not simply a piecemeal exemption carved out to support a single industry.”

They always want to do something crazy. They’re actually pushing a Hot Foods Act for SNAP. Which could make sense. But, with the chicken, the problem there is that they are usually loss-leaders or sold at cost. You get one and then you shop and get a bunch of other stuff. Are you just stopping at the chicken, or, going back and getting some potato salad, macaroni salad, some lettuce and tomatoes, stuffing and gravy, etc? So, since the government is now going to pay for them, you could see the price skyrocket, just like with most stuff the government reimburses on. And, it may be harder to get them.

We’ll see. Other hot foods would make sense, since they are usually profit makers. However, you could see the prices there go up, too. Maybe we should look to see who is on SNAP. Stop giving it to illegals and people on visas, along with others who do not deserve it.

New York’s Over-Reliance On “Green” Energy Could Cause Blackouts

One day things like wind and solar might be viable, but, today is not that day (via Green Jihad)

Extended heat wave could cripple New York’s grid this summer: NYISO

Electric reliability margins this summer in New York will be “the lowest … in recent history,” with extreme weather and an aging generation mix contributing to a risk of blackouts, the New York Independent System Operator said Friday.

“Coordination with generation owners, utility companies, neighboring grid operators, and government officials will be essential as we work to maintain grid reliability this summer,” Aaron Markham, ISO vice president of operations, said in a statement.

The ISO’s annual summer reliability assessment estimates 34,615 MW of power resources will be available this year to meet forecasted peak demand of 31,578 MW. The ISO said it is required to maintain 2,620 MW from the available resources in reserve, leaving a reliability margin of 417 MW under baseline summer conditions.

New York’s reliability margin has declined almost 80% since 2022, when it was 1,918 MW.

Well, when you get rid of reliable coal, natural gas, and nuclear energy generation you are left with unreliable, undependable, and more expensive energy, which cannot meet the demands of more and more consumers/businesses, even with all those people moving out of NY. You still have more and more devices that use more and more electricity. Oh, and all those extra EVs.

Have fun, New Yorkers: you voted for this. And don’t leave. You voted for this.

LOL: Illinois Commission Recommends Investigating Federal Immigration Officers

They just never learn, eh?

Illinois commission recommends investigating federal immigration agents for misconduct and criminal charges

An Illinois commission tasked with investigating the Trump administration’s mass deportation operation in the state last year said it had identified multiple incidents in which federal agents should be investigated for misconduct and potential criminal charges.

Members of the Illinois Accountability Commission, an independent board of nine members that includes a former federal judge and attorneys appointed by Gov. JB Pritzker, recommended in a final report Thursday that law enforcement agencies and prosecutors investigate the conduct of federal agents during Operation Midway Blitz, the immigration deportation operation the Trump administration launched last year in Chicago.

“Our communities and our people were subjected to an unprecedented campaign of harassment, intimidation and brutality,” Pritzker, who created the commission in response to Operation Midway Blitz, said at a news conference Thursday. “They deployed tear gas and smoke grenades against peaceful protesters and peaceful crowds and in peaceful neighborhoods. They committed flagrant and egregious abuses of power and force that went unchecked.”

I wonder how much this investigation will cost, with most of the money disappearing into people’s pockets? Because absolutely nothing will come of it

The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the commission’s findings or the specific incidents detailed in it. A DHS spokesperson said in a statement in response to two hearings the commission held this week, “Governor Pritzker continues to refuse to do his job to protect his citizens from illegal alien crime and instead chooses to smear our law enforcement.”

Abigail ?Jackson, a spokesperson for the White House, told NBC News in response to the report, “If JB Pritzker spent this much time and energy addressing crime and supporting the arrest of criminal illegal aliens instead of providing them with sanctuary, Illinois residents would be much safer.”

If he did his unhinged base would revolt.

Immigration street sweeps led to more ‘collateral’ arrests of noncriminals

A quarter of immigration arrests since August were labeled by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as “collateral,” a type of arrest and detention that’s been challenged in court as an end run around civil rights.

Public outrage and lawsuits over the arrests may be tamping down the large-scale sweeps that foster them, but tens of thousands were arrested this way between August and early March.

But collateral arrests can result from street sweeps and raids in which a person is singled out for questioning based on appearance or proximity to someone wanted on a warrant. That person could be taken into custody if agents think they may be subject to deportation and also likely to flee if released.

About 70% of the collateral arrests were for people with immigration-related crimes or violations alone, compared with 41% for arrests with warrants. Less than 2% of those with collateral arrests were convicted of a violent crime, one-third the rate of other arrests, and only 18% were convicted of any crime, compared with 33% for other arrests.

See, now, if the wackos like Pritzker would simply hand over the illegals who committed crime these big operations would be unnecessary, and most of those collateral arrests wouldn’t have happened. Sure, they all need to go, but, immigration agents wouldn’t be grabbing collaterals in large numbers with the criminals.

Your Fault: Vanuatu Is Still Confronting An Unthinkable Furure

Weird, because the socialists called Vanuatu one of the happiest places on Earth back in 2007

Climate change is forcing Vanuatu to confront an unthinkable future

climate doom yearly

Wait, I don’t have global heating on here?

Nguna is one of the smaller of some 83 islands that make up the South Pacific archipelago of Vanuatu. It hardly rates a mention in the global politics of climate change, but its people want their voices to be heard. After all, they are living with the effects—close up.

Inneth Tasururu teaches at the little school in Unakap, a village on Nguna just off the coast of Efate, where the capital, Port Vila, stands. Not so long ago she was a pupil playing in its playground. When asked where the sea was then, her eyes glaze over a little and she says just one word: “Far.” Locals estimate that in recent decades the shoreline in Unakap has come in by something like 20 metres. The school’s old football field is under water, and attempts to build coastal defences have all failed, washed away or broken by high tides and storms.

After each storm, changes can be seen. The shores of Nguna island and its neighbours are littered with fallen trees, undermined by erosion. Other trees have most of their roots exposed, ready to fall next. Metal spikes stand out in places, the ruins of failed defences, and the path to the school is being eaten away by the waves. “All the communities in the islands are affected,” says Whitely Tasururu, a local man who advises the government on the issue.

Vanuatu is sponsoring a United Nations resolution on climate change, to press for financial help based on a legal opinion last year by the International Court of Justice that countries can be held liable for their inaction on climate change. America is doing its best to scuttle this motion, and any action would anyway surely come too late for much of Vanuatu. People there laugh at Donald Trump’s claim that climate change is a “con job”. In Port Vila, Vanuatu’s Ministry of Climate Change has collected evidence that suggests the sea level is rising all around the country. According to the country’s meteorological service, it has risen by 11-15cm since 1993. That brings severe problems such as saltwater intrusion.

Blah blah blah. They have been complaining about this for well over 10 years. My first post on them blaming a hurricane, something that happens out in the Pacific, on ‘climate change’ was back in 2015. I know other Skeptics, such as Tom Nelson, noted their BS way further back. And it is BS. Their island nation has a lot of airports, and would basically be a full 3rd world nation without fossil fueled ships and planes bringing in modern goods, along with food. They’ve polluted their fresh water supply. They really just want free, no strings attached money. It is all a scam. It’s very tedious.

Wacko Liberal Arrested After Threatening Trump At Apex Car Wash

Meth was involved, but, that was surely just the helper on the way to Crazy Town

Let’s go to WRAL

A man is due in court Thursday after he was accused of making violent threats toward President Donald Trump in Apex.

Apex police, the SBI, the FBI and a bomb squad all responded to Tidal Wave Auto Spa on Lake Pine Drive in Apex on Wednesday afternoon after police said a man made violent political threats. The entire business was evacuated. (The Secret Service also showed up) (snip)

Daniel Rodney Swain, 41, of Charleston, South Carolina, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and resisting a public officer. He is also accused of having a fake license plate. (snip)

“So it had to be something more than that that he would’ve had to have said or done, or that they found in his car or at his home…because I suspect there will be a search of his home,” (Former Judge Carl) Fox continued.

Police said the threats were political in nature, which prompted a “multi-agency response.”

These people are loons. I wonder what they will find when they search his house.

We Can Help Solve Hotcoldwetdry If You Just Give Up One Meat Meal A Week

Shouldn’t all Warmists be going meatless all the time and eating bugs?

Swap In Just One Meatless Meal a Week for an Easy Climate Win

As we emerge from winter, spring brings the promise of leafy greens, ripe red berries, and crisp asparagus—and the joy of planting new fruits and vegetables in home gardens.

All of this serves as new inspiration for the meals you put on your plate. As you test out budding in-season produce and add new plants to your garden, consider another change you can make to bring fresh life to your spring meals: eating a plant-based meal once a week.

“Vegan diets or plant-based diets, are vastly less resource intensive than animal-based diets,” says Gidon Eshel, research professor of environmental physics at Bard College, who has studied the environmental impacts of plant-based diets. (snip)

Research has shown that what we eat really can have an environmental impact. One 2023 study found that plant-based diets produce 75% less heat-trapping gas, generate 75% less water pollution, and use 75% less land for growing than meat-rich diets. Just one meatless meal a week can reduce your annual carbon footprint by as much as not driving your car for a month.

As you start shopping, consider visiting your local farmers markets for produce—they often carry in-season fruits and vegetables grown locally, adding another bonus for lowering the emissions impact of your meal.

How about this? Mind your own f’ing business, cultists. Go practice what you preach. Leave the rest of us alone.

Trump Admin Sues NJ Over Attempting To Block Federal Agents From Wearing Mask

First term Trump would have simply ignored New Jersey’s law, daring any cop in the state to attempt to arrest an NICE agent. Second term Trump has good people working for him, people who will impose what he wants. Also, the masks would be unnecessary if Democrat voters weren’t unhinged and violent

Trump administration sues NJ over law limiting masks for cops, ICE agents

The U.S. Department of Justice sued New Jersey over a state law that limits when law enforcement can hide their identities while interacting with the public.

The federal government argued the law, which also requires officers to identify themselves before detaining or arresting someone, improperly seeks to regulate the actions of federal officials. The law was pushed by New Jersey Democrats to prevent immigration agents from wearing masks during enforcement operations.

“New Jersey lacks the legal authority to regulate the Federal Government at all, much less through a law targeted at core governmental functions such as law enforcement,” the department said in a pages-long preliminary statement that began by quoting President Donald Trump.

The lawsuit was filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court.

The law, which Gov. Mikie Sherrill (D) signed in March along with two other bills aimed at limiting immigration enforcement, restricts when law enforcement officers at any level of government can shield their identity, including with masks, while on duty and interacting with the public.

Well, if this goes the same as the case for California which tried the same thing, NJ will lose

The judges said that the state law “purports to override the federal government’s power to determine whether, how, and when to publicly identify its officers.” And they add, “in so doing, it aims to regulate the manner and conditions under which federal agents can enforce federal law.”

A California appeals court has blocked a move by Gov. Gavin Newsom to force ICE agents to wear identification, saying that the state couldn’t regulate actions by the federal government.

That’s the problem with trying to pass laws that enforce your unhinged views when said laws are un-Constitutional. All to protect illegal alien criminals

Wacko Dems Introduce Climate Change Education Act

A national indoctrination in schools bill, introduced by people with massive carbon footprints. I wonder how much they all stand to gain monetarily if this becomes law?

The Climate Change Education Act returns to Congress yet again

The Climate Change Education Act is yet again in Congress. S. 4377 and the identical H.R. 8406, introduced on April 22, 2026, and April 21, 2026, respectively, would authorize the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to institute a competitive grant program aimed in part at developing and improving educational material and teacher preparation on the topic of climate change.

Among the findings listed in the bill are “[T]he evidence for human-induced climate change is overwhelming and undeniable” and “Only 30 percent of middle school and 45 percent of high school science teachers understand the extent of the scientific consensus on climate change” — a reference to the 2014-2015 NCSE/Penn State survey of climate change educators (PDF).

“The Climate Change Education Act addresses a critical need,” NCSE Executive Director Amanda L. Townley commented. “Accurate and effective climate education requires high-quality, evidence-based teaching resources with robust support for educators. The act would benefit millions of students across the country by focusing on both of these critical areas of need.”

S. 4377 is sponsored by Edward J. Markey (D-Massachusetts) and eight of his colleagues in the Senate. H.R. 8406 is sponsored by Debbie Dingell (D-Michigan) and one of her colleagues in the House. Similar bills from previous years include S. 4117 and H.R. 7946 in 2024, S. 966 in 2021, S. 477 in 2019, S. 2740 in 2018, H.R. 2310 in 2021, H.R. 2349 in 2019, and H.R. 5606 in 2018.

Not that it’s going to pass, not with a GOP controlled Congress, and not while Trump is president. Weird that they couldn’t get it through while Biden was POTUS, though, eh?
