Does this seems just a little too tailor made?
A lesbian couple say they were forced to leave Cameron Village in Raleigh after eating lunch because they were kissing in public.
Caitlin Breedlove says she and her girlfriend were sitting on a bench with their arms around each other and had kissed briefly on the cheek when, she says, a security guard approached them, told them that “being affectionate†was “inappropriate†and asked them to leave.
Breedlove said the guard added, “No one wants to see that at Cameron Village.”
But, wait, there’s more. Breedlove is the co-director of Southerners on New Ground
According to its website, Southerners on New Ground is a social justice group that “envisions a multi-issue southern justice movement that unites across class, age, race, ability, gender, immigration status and sexuality.â€
Breedlove states that it was not a stunt. Cameron Village is investigating, and won’t comment. And if you guessed that the ACLU of North Carolina has already gotten involved, is demanding answers, and may take legal action, you’d be correct.
Now, I’m not saying it didn’t happen, there are always assholes out there. Maybe the guard did do that. But, this seems a little too convenient, especially since the group is already planning a demonstration on Sunday at 1pm, per the WRAL 10pm news cast broadcast on Fox 50 Raleigh.
And, if you look back through what I have written, I do not care for bigotry against gays. Sure, I’m not, when pressed, for gay marriage (though I do support gay civil unions), but, this is America, and people should be free to be who they are. You want to be gay, be gay. Not my business. Obviously, I’m not talking about being free to be criminals. What I am against is a group creating issues and/or demanding rights above others. I guess we’ll see what the outcome is. If the guard did pull this, he or she (one of the WRAL comments said the guard was a woman) should be fired. I’m sure that behavior is against the employee code of conduct.
Obviously, Pam’s House Blend has pretty much already convicted the guard.
You know, reading through the comments at the WRAL story, I do find it a shame that both sides are immediately casting blame. Perhaps we could wait till we find out all the information.
