What If They Held A Climate Creationist Event, And No One Came?

Poor little climate creationists, they are truly suffering. After all their histrionics, after pouring their hearts and souls into unhinged talking points, they have to admit they’re losing

On Thursday, some of the country’s most respected environmental groups – in the midst of their biggest political fight in two decades – sent a group of activists to Milwaukee with a message.

We’re losing.

They put on what they called a “CarnivOil” – a fake carnival with a stilt-wearing barker, free “tar balls” (chocolate doughnuts), and a suit-wearing “oil executive” punching somebody dressed like a crab. It was supposed to be satire, but there was a bitter message underneath: When we fight the oil and gas industry, they win.

“We killed the clean-energy bill! There’s still no cap on oil spills!” yelled Heather Brutz, the barker, who was pretending to speak for the industry. “And now, for our graaaaaaand finale, we’re going to pass the diiiiiirty-air act!”

This is the same kind of idiocy and overblown rhetoric that has caused problems with the environmental movement (which is real, unlike man-caused global warming, er, climate change) and made everyone else think environmentalists are loons. Unfortunately, since the environment is important. AGW is not.

A year ago, these groups seemed to be at the peak of their influence, needing only the Senate’s approval for a landmark climate-change bill. But they lost that fight, done in by the sluggish economy and opposition from business and fossil-fuel interests.

Don’t forget that people find “climate change” to be of minimal importance over the past few years, dropping in importance as they watch the unhinged antics of the Believers, as they see the leaders being huge carbon hypocrites, and as the facts come to light.

Now the groups are wondering how they can keep this loss from becoming a rout as their opponents press their advantage and try to undo the Obama administration’s climate efforts. At two events last week in Wisconsin, environmental groups seemed to be trying two strategies: defiance and pleading for sympathy.

Neither one drew enough people to fill a high school gym.

In fact, the WP points out, after mentioning a “painted message that was resilience bordering on denial”, that only 30 people attended the Wednesday afternoon event, and on Thursday “The event drew in scattered pedestrians, and afterward organizers said dozens had signed their petitions calling for action against climate change.”

There was also something about a crab fake boxing an “oil executive”, who would then bribe the judge to win. Hey, I wonder how the Bluegreen Alliance is getting around the country? In a bus, you say? Is it a “green” bus, running on unicorn poots and hope? Probably runs on *gasp* oil, you say, since their website and press release have no mention of any special fuels? Interesting.

Never took a course in logic, did you?

By your thinking, ignorance, illiteracy and truck driving all go hand in hand.

Do you really want to stick with that?
