Hoyer (D-rugs): Letting The Tax Cuts Expire Is A “Republican Tax Increase”

If I did drugs, I’d probably want to know what Steny Hoyer is taking

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said on Wednesday that the expiration built into the Bush tax cuts is a “Republican tax increase” for “working Americans” and the Democrats have “no intention” of allowing it to go into effect.

“We have no intention of allowing the Republican tax increase — that their policies would lead to — to go into effect for working Americans. Period,” he said. “We’re going to act and make sure that the Republican phase out and increase in taxes does not end as they provided for in the laws they passed.”

Whoa! There is spin, and then there is SPIN! The 2001/2003 tax cuts were temporary because there was so much….wait for it…..Democrat opposition. Of course, a total of 9 Dems voted for the 2003 tax cuts, which meant people kept more of their own hard earned money, which then flowed through the economy, and Democrats just do not like that.

A bit more of an explanation vis a vis why the tax cuts had an expiration date: they were passed through the reconciliation process because of the Democrats pitching donkey fits, so, there had to be sunset provisions due to the way reconciliation measures work.
