Shirley Sherrod Resigns After Racist Remarks

So, one of the big stories from Monday was the racist remarks by USDA official Shirley Sherrod to the NAACP, highlighted by Big Government. And now

A black USDA official in Georgia has resigned after publicly admitting she didn’t help a white man trying to save his farm to the “full force” of her power and instead referred him to “own of his own.”

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said he had accepted Shirley Sherrod’s resignation, saying there was “zero tolerance for discrimination at USDA.”

Of course, Sherrod and other liberals are saying it was all taken out of context. If so, why did she resign? And why so darned quick?

Anyhow, the NAACP actually did jump in and denounce her blatant racism, whether because they truly believe it, or for political appearances, we do not know

NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous agreed with the USDA’s decision to accept Sherrod’s resignation and said the official had abused her power.

“Racism is about the abuse of power,” Jealous said.

“Sherrod had it in her position at USDA. According to her remarks, she mistreated a white farmer in need of assistance because of his race.

“We are appalled by her actions, just as we are with abuses of power against farmers of color and female farmers.

“Her actions were shameful. While she went on to explain in the story that she ultimately realized her mistake, as well as the common predicament of working people of all races, she gave no indication she had attempted to right the wrong she had done to this man.”

Yes, at Sherrod’s appearance where the video was taken, people were laughing and agreeing. No one was denouncing her. Jealous has further stated “The reaction from many in the audience is disturbing. We will be looking into the behavior of NAACP representatives at this local event and take any appropriate action.”

Now we await Obama to denounce her. Heck, he denounces every private citizen who disagrees with him. Will he have the cajones to decry this?

She was made to resign by the White House. It’s much easier to fire someone and distance yourself, than to spend months defending them.

I agree that her actions were wrong, but in the speech, she was explaining her actions 24 years ago, and using it as an example of how NOT to act. She later went on to explain that she realized she was wrong, and is now actually friends with the farmer. She also wasn’t with the USDA at the time.

  2. Otter says:

too bad, reasic / bunny. That’s what a racist deserves to get.

  3. John Ryan says:

gee Teach you don’t think that those tapes could have been edited do you ? I mean if they were and the white farmers that she was supposed to have helped WENT ON RECORD SAYING THAT SHE HELPED THEM SAVE THEIR FAMILY FARMS well then teach I mean if that was the case YOU would certainly google around to see if maybe just maybe Britbart was not giving us an accurate picture of what happened. Oh and remember his stooge who did the “expose” he is being sued by multiple people and organizations.

“too bad, reasic / bunny. That’s what a racist deserves to get”

Squatter- you’re still sticking with the reasic/bunny meme, I see. I guess you think I’m posting under two names now. Why not just ask Screech if Reasic and I are the same person?

Tell me again why it is that I’m a racist. I was away for awhile and forgot much of your line of bullshit. Maybe GC can chime in here and help you out. I believe you said that John Ryan AND Bunny/Reasic are racists. As I’ve tried to explain to your dumb ass before- I cannot speak for Reasic- but I’d like some evidence of racism on my part.

GC- the word “and” between my name and John Ryan’s above means BOTH JR and myself are racists by Squatter’s definition. I realize that you are stuck in the glut of stage two MR, but surely you’ve gotten to the meanings of and/or/if/but by now.

I would hope that the Right stands up for this Shirley Sherrod. Here is the perfect opportunity to show the Democrats for what they are………

Racists who are obsessed with racism. So much so that the White House is willing to fire this woman over the phone so that the right does not have a story.

The story here is the firing of this woman and the Democrats obsessive infatuation with race so much that they see it behind every tree……

    For Political gain.

I would hope the Right and our congressmen and woman in D.C. stand up and demand this woman be given her job back and use this to expose the Democrats obsession with RACE.

    Otter,

too bad, reasic / bunny. That’s what a racist deserves to get.

So… if I give a speech in which I describe my past wrongs, using them as an example to learn from, and encouraging others not to do the same, does that make me racist?

  7. John Ryan says:

Even Glenn Beck is now saying that her firing was wrong. Teach those remarks were taken out of context. They were edited in a way that did NOT show correctly what she was saying ALL if the white people that she supposedly hurt spoke up for her. One farmer when asked about the story as told by the rightwing noise machine summed it up best “HOGWASH”http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/21/shirley-sherrod-defended_n_653747.html

  8. Reasic says:

lol. I read the Beck transcript. He turned a quick 180. His game is to criticize Obama. If she hadn’t been fired, he’d have criticized them for not acting. When they did, he criticized them for firing her. (Although, he ended with: “maybe they decided they couldn’t count on their usual cover from the mainstream media this time — that this tape was just so over the top and their media allies couldn’t fight this losing battle for them?”, which doesn’t sound like he really believes the tape was out of context, and therefore, that she shouldn’t have been fired.) If she’s reinstated, he’ll criticize them for waffling, and acting without thinking.

Also, everything’s always linked directly to Obama, as if no department heads can make any decisions without his direction. This whole thing is a farce, INCLUDING Beck’s “support” for Sherrod. Not ONCE did he chastize Fox News or Andrew Breitbart for posting and spreading a misleading video of her speech.

  9. Reasic says:

She should definitely be re-hired, and Breitbart and Fox News exposed for their attempts to mislead the public.

  10. Reasic says:

    One more thing:

Don’t get on Beck’s bandwagon, as Otter has called her a racist who got what she deserved and Teach is waiting for Obama to denounce her. I’m waiting for your apologies, for acting without knowing all of the facts, and for wrongly accusing this woman of racism.

  11. John Ryan says:

The right wing ended up with egg on its face over this one. Teach Breitbart did the same type of editing with the ACORN smear. And ACORN was completely exonerated by the GAO when they did their own investigation.
