Five Convicted In Miami On Terrorism Charges

First I ran across this story on the subject, but, wanted more depth. Wanted to avoid the AP, so they couldn’t be whiny bitches. Then I ended up at the Detroit Free Press, which had an, shall we say, interesting spin

After back-to-back mistrials, five men from one of Miami’s poorest neighborhoods were convicted today of trying to join with Al Qaeda in plots to topple Chicago’s Sears Tower and bomb government buildings in South Florida.

Is there a point to mentioning that that they came from a poor (read Liberal Policy Induced Povery) neighborhood? Does that give them a license to plot to blow up buildings and people?

Though a sixth man was acquitted in the terrorism sting operation, the verdict allows federal prosecutors to claim overall victory in a Bush-era case that dragged on for years and cost millions of taxpayer dollars.

So, I guess we are just supposed to ignore what the little darlings were involved in, and, it’s all Bush’s fault that millions had to be spent to put these little darlings on trial. They should apparently have been given ice cream cones, unicorn dust, and a pat on the head. Good boy, here’s a biscuit!

The defendants convicted in Miami federal court — Narseal Batiste, 35; Patrick Abraham, 29; Rotschild Augustine, 25; Burson Augustin, 24; and Stanley Grant Phanor, 33 — were immediately taken into custody by U.S. marshals.

Have fun in jail, boy!

This is followed by ponderous bias from the Detroit Free Press, they do not even obscure it. Quote after quote, paragraph after paragraph, all in defense of these terrorist. Here’s what we get for the “these guys are scum” viewpoint

After the verdict, Jonathan Solomon, special agent in charge of the FBI’s South Florida field office, said the nation was a “much safer place” because of the prosecution.

Yup, pretty much it. I wonder how the DFP would feel if one of the targets had been in Detroit? They might as well have been witnesses for the defense.

Imagine how this story would have been written had the defendents been convicted of considering bombing abortion clinics.

Rusty at The Jawa Report has more on the subject of the little (jailed) darlings

I don’t know if the ring of Miami Muslim wannabe terrorists were serious about wanting to inflict mass casualties. They may even be telling the truth when they claim they would never have carried out their plans. Nevertheless, if 9/11 taught us anything it is that we cannot and must not wait until the actual attack happens to respond. By then, it’s too late.

Of course they don’t care. It’s CHICAGO! Detroiters HATE Chicago. Any other city, maybe a different angle, but Chicago/Detroit is a rivalry in nearly every sport pro and college. They hate each other with a passion…
