Good News! Energy Secretary Wants To Remove Your Choice

I mentioned this with a link to the Blog Prof earlier in the Patriotic Pinup post, but, it deserves a separate post to highlight the fascist tendencies of progressives

Energy Secretary Steven Chu came out swinging Friday against a House bill that would repeal a 2007 federal law effectively outlawing older forms of incandescent bulbs—an effort at energy conservation that has inflamed a wide swath of Americans who don’t care for the more expensive alternatives.

In a conference call with reporters, Mr. Chu said the more-efficient bulbs required would save consumers money over the life of the product, even if the up-front price is higher.

“We are taking away a choice that continues to let people waste their own money,” he said.

Interesting: liberals demand that women be given the choice to abort the unborn without any restrictions after they made a poor choice in having unprotected and loose sex with men they do not want to have children with, yet, they can’t abide people making their own choices into purchasing light bulbs. Supposedly, you would save $30 over the life time of the bulb vs an incandescent bulb. Then factor in the $5 you spend to dispose of the bulb at the landfill center by driving there. But, whoops, the current crop of shoddily made Chinese CFLs last no longer than a regular bulb, so, you just spent a couple extra dollars for one (due to government decree), and now must drive to the landfill, lest it break in your garbage can and release mercury. Not to mention the time it takes to drive to the landfill.

As Mark Steyn writes

More to the point, I wonder if Secretary Chu has any idea how stupid this argument sounds from an administration that has wasted more of other people’s money than anybody else on the planet.

Hey, here would be an interesting activity: everyone go to his office and home, see what kinds of light bulbs he uses. Wander around the Dept of Energy building, check the bulbs.

    WOW. I do smell something.

Yep. you stepped in it. Logic. That stuff gets everywhere once you get it on your shoes.

Scrape that crap off before it begins to infect everything.

  2. Well, won’t affect the alarmists: like with most liberals, everything is based on feelings
