Pentagon Deploying National Guard To Help With “Traffic Control” For Trucker Convoy

They’re totally being deployed to help out, not intimidate Citizens engaged in Constitutionally protected protest, speech, and petitioning for redress of grievance, right? Hey, you never know, maybe they will be a buffer between the violent leftists who will come to protest the protesters

National Guard to help DC control traffic for truck convoys

The Pentagon has approved the deployment of 700 unarmed National Guard troops to the nation’s capital as it prepares for trucker convoys that are planning protests against pandemic restrictions beginning next week.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin approved the request Tuesday from the District of Columbia government and the U.S. Capitol Police, the Pentagon said in a statement Tuesday night.

The troops would be used to assist with traffic control during demonstrations expected in the city in the coming days, the Pentagon said. Four hundred Guard members from the District of Columbia Guard will be joined by 300 Guard members from other states, according to the statement.

Guard members will not carry firearms or take part in law enforcement or domestic-surveillance activities, the Pentagon said.

It’s not a particularly good look to deploy the military for legitimate protests, is it? It doesn’t matter than rationale. There are really only two reasons: one, to intimidate the truckers, and two, to keep the unhinged leftists, primarily Antifa, away from the truckers. Once we see where they are deployed we will get more of an idea. Will they be surrounding Capital Hill and the White House, refusing to let legitimate protesters who are protesting the government away?

It remains to be seen if any of the U.S. convoys would seek to actively shut down Washington’s streets, the way their Canadian counterparts did in Ottawa. Some convoy organizers have spoken of plans to briefly roll through the city, then focus on shutting down the Beltway, which encircles the capital.

A statement from the People’s Convoy specifically says the trucks “will NOT be going into DC proper.” That convoy is planning to embark Wednesday from southern California and arrive in D.C. around March 5.

The U.S. convoys seek an immediate lifting of what they say are heavy-handed government pandemic restrictions like mask mandates and vaccine requirements. The American Truckers Freedom Fund website says the group is protesting “the unscientific, unconstitutional overreach of the federal government.” (snip)

People’s Convoy organizer Mike Landis, in a video testimonial on the group’s website, said the current COVID vaccine “is not proven yet” but supported individual choice on whether to take it or not. Landis said the convoy was open to all vehicles and said the primary goal was to pressure Biden to lift the national state of emergency.

Now we’ll get to see if the Brandon admin is tempted to go full Fascist like Canada. Deploying 700 members of the military for a protest is an ugly look.

UN IPCC To Come Out With New Doomsaying Report

The report they came out with right before the nice working vacation even in Glasgow, with all those private jets and celebs and stuff, apparently wasn’t doomy enough, so, it’s time for another one

IPCC: Climate change report to sound warning on impacts

A new report on the impacts of climate change will likely be the most worrying assessment yet of how rising temperatures affect every living thing.

This will be the second of three major reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and its first since November’s COP26 summit.

Scientists and officials will publish their conclusions on 28 February.

The study will focus heavily on regional impacts as well as on cities and coastal communities.

For many major cities and developing countries, the report will highlight that tackling climate change is not about cutting emissions and hitting net zero sometime in the future, but about dealing with far more short-term threats.

So, this one will be all about government micromanaging your life at the local level. What can government do to force you to change your behavior, take your money, take your freedom.

There’s A Dark Side To Freedom Or Something

Before Jonah Goldberg was infected with Trump Derangement Syndrome, he wrote a book called Liberal Fascism. It’s very long, it’s very dry, but, still worth the read. In it he calls Progressivism “nice Fascism.” It doesn’t mean they’re nice, it means they’re doing this for your own good. Oh, and the Fascism part. Here’s the Canadian Globe and Mail

The Ottawa truck convoy has revealed the ugly side of freedom

During the truck convoy protests, we have watched banners demanding “freedom” waving over big rigs parked in front of Parliament. But what does this vaunted “freedom” mean?

The answer is, everything and nothing.

Everything: the right not to wear masks in public places; the right not to be vaccinated; the right to hold Ottawa’s downtown residents and businesses hostage; the right to malign public officials and call for the Prime Minister’s death; the right to shout epithets at people of colour.

And nothing. Because freedom is an empty word unless you ask further questions: “Freedom from what?” “Freedom to do what?” And beyond that, “Where do my freedoms end and the freedoms of others begin?

Freedom is not absolute. We live in a social matrix, where one person’s exercise of freedom may conflict with another person’s exercise of freedom. Section 1 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms states this plainly. The Charter gives Canadians a bundle of rights and freedoms. But it prefaces them with this caution – these rights and freedoms, precious as they are, are not absolute. Governments, it proclaims, can limit freedoms, provided the limits are “reasonable” and can be “justified in a free and democratic society.”

Once again I’ll note that those freedoms, specifically speech, protest, and redress of grievance, are specifically meant to be about being able to do that against government without fear of reprisal, just like here in the U.S. And every single one of these people running around hating on the Freedom Truckers and cheering on cops acting like the Stasi, and things like

keeping her in jail because she might fundraise for protesters again, and

That’s some stuff that would get organized crime prosecuted. This is what the lefties in Canada and the U.S. are cheering.

(Breitbart) Most Americans disagree with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s handling of the Canadian freedom truckers in his country, but a majority of Democrats support his protest crackdown, a Trafalgar Group survey released Tuesday found.

“Do you approve or disapprove of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s handling of the trucker protest in his country?” the survey asked.

Overall, it found 55.3 percent disapproving, compared to 35.1 percent who approve and 9.6 percent who are unaware of it.

Notably, there is a significant partisan divide, as 87.3 percent of Republicans disapprove of Trudeau’s handling of the protest, but 65.7 percent of Democrats approve of it. Most independents, 74.4 percent, disapprove.

Those who support the government crackdown, acting like a repressive government, should remember that they the next ones on the chopping block could be them. Democrats spent 4 years calling Trump literally Hitler. A Fascist. A dictator. And now they’re throwing their support behind government repression. Look at the top of the blog. Look at that tag line: if we don’t believe in freedom of speech for people we despise, we don’t believe in it at all.

Washington Post Offers 10 Steps YOU Can Take To Reduce Your Carbon Doom Footprint Or Something

This is great, you guys! It’s important enough that the WP didn’t bury it behind a paywall

10 steps you can take to lower your carbon footprint

Here’s the thing: Small changes alone won’t save our planet. To keep the Earth from warming above the critical 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) limit, climate action needs to happen at an institutional level. The Washington Post has built a tracker to keep you up to date on all of President’s Biden’s environmental actions.

But that doesn’t mean you should feel helpless, or that your actions aren’t worthwhile. Taking steps to lower your own carbon footprint may help ease your climate anxiety by giving you back some power — and even the smallest of actions will contribute to keeping our planet habitable.

With that in mind, here are 10 places to start.

Let’s see them

  1. Create less food waste (tell us how this works at big climate conferences)
  2. Ditch your grass (not a problem in liberal infested big cities)
  3. Save coral reefs by packing smartly for your beach vacation (this is environmental, in terms of using environmentally friendly sunscreens)
  4. Shop sustainably by buying less (piss off)
  5. Protect our forests (no houses for you Warmists)
  6. Trade in for an electric car (because the middle and lower classes can totally afford this. Say, has the WP replaced all their vehicles with EVs?)
  7. Weatherize your home (these people)
  8. Learn about the link between climate change and racial equity (good grief. It’s a cult)
  9. Consider carbon offsets (like paying a speeding ticket for your bad behavior)
  10. Pass it on (annoy the shit out of your friends, family, coworkers, people you don’t know)

Let’s go back to the EV on

One of the most powerful individual actions people can take against climate change is to change the way they get around.

New electric vehicles can be expensive — even the most affordable have a suggested sale price between $30,000 and $40,000. But as more car manufacturers start producing EVs (General Motors has even said it will only make EVs by 2035), the cost of these cars is expected to come down. EVs also tend to have lower fuel and maintenance costs than gas-powered cars, making them cheaper over the course of their lifetimes than combustion engine vehicles, according to recent research from MIT.

Again, the vast majority of people cannot afford that price range, and do not want a 6, 7, or 8 year loan for it. Especially not when it will drop in value 52% (on average) after 3 years.

Electric vehicle purchases also qualify for federal tax credits of up to $7,500. Depending on where you live, your city or state might also provide additional financial incentives to go electric. The Energy Department maintains a full list of rebates, tax credits and other programs offered in each state, and more are expected to become available as President Biden moves to expand the nation’s electric vehicle fleet.

It’s a one time credit that, in most cases, doesn’t actually save you $7,500. Furthermore, again, it won’t help reduce the purchase cost of the vehicle. It’s just scamming people. GM’s going to find themselves in a bit of financial trouble when they’ve reduced the pool of buying customers to those making $200k and up.

White House: Russia Sorta Maybe Possibly Has Invaded Ukraine

I’m a little confused. Looking across most news sites, I do not know if Russia has already invaded Ukraine. There are headlines like

That’s just a smattering. About the only news organization saying that Ukraine has been invaded is the UK Daily Mail. The White House is rather confused, too

White House wrestles with whether Russia has ‘invaded’ Ukraine

The White House on Monday confronted the reality that its months-long effort to avert a Russian invasion of Ukraine would likely be futile, as officials grasped for last-ditch ways to head off what one called “military action that could take place in the coming hours or days.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin spent the holiday weekend effectively closing off one diplomatic path after another, suggesting ever more clearly that he would not be swayed by diplomacy or deterred by sanctions. And by announcing that he was recognizing two pro-Russian separatist regions of Ukraine and ordering troops into them, he forced the United States into an uneasy dilemma about whether that constituted an invasion.

The Biden administration sought to hit back at Russia’s aggressive action while stopping short of declaring that it had officially invaded Ukraine, which would have triggered the array of hard-hitting sanctions President Biden has been warning about for months.

Instead, amid meetings Monday with his national security advisers and calls with several foreign leaders, Biden and his team reiterated their grim assessment of the crisis and imposed a smaller set of sanctions prohibiting U.S. investment and trade specifically in the breakaway regions.

Administration officials said additional measures — including more sanctions — would be announced Tuesday, and emphasized that the newly announced sanctions are different from the much larger ones Biden has been threatening should Putin invade Ukraine.

So, wiffle waffling by the Biden admin. What happened?

World leaders focus on how to punish Russia over Ukraine

With the smell of war in the air over Europe, world leaders got over the shock of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s order to deploy troops to separatist regions of eastern Ukraine and they are focused on producing as forceful a reaction as possible.

Germany made the first big move, taking steps to halt the process of certifying the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia — a lucrative deal long sought by Moscow, but criticized by the U.S. for increasing Europe’s reliance on Russian energy supplies.

The West insisted Putin’s bold moves in Ukraine violated countless international agreements and since the words of diplomacy had failed, it was time to move towards action. (snip)

Russia says it’s sending what it deems “peacekeepers” into eastern Ukraine, but the European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell stressed they were “troops” on sovereign Ukrainian territory.

So, the troops are going into 2 “separatist” regions of Ukraine, which is rather what one would call the Ukraine. What happens now? Sanctions and Strongly Worded Letters. I don’t think anyone has the stomach to actually go against Putin militarily. Does he then send in troops to the rest of Ukraine? Who knows. Regardless of what happens, wait about 5 years and everyone will forget about this.

Climate Cult Groups Spending Millions To Get Friendly Press

Why would the Cult of Climastrology need to do this if their science was so sound?

Climate activists spend millions for friendly Associated Press ‘news’

When climate activists called for more coverage, the Associated Press went green.

No, it didn’t dive into environmental activism. The news agency had already done that. It dove into a pile of cash — more than $8 million.

AP just announced it sold its gold-standard journalism for 20 bright, shiny new reporters under the benign headline “Climate grant illustrates growth in philanthropy-funded news.” The announcement was adorned with a photo of a polar bear (of course) because journalists do love their cute, man-eating predators.

AP noted it’s “the news organization’s largest single expansion paid for through philanthropic grants.” But the groups ponying up millions aren’t value-neutral benefactors.

The five climate partners include left-wing groups such as the Rockefeller Foundation, the Walton Family Foundation and Quadrivium. Walton and Quadrivium both fund the radical, eco-leftist Environmental Defense Fund. The pressure group pushes everything from massive pollution regulations to Biden’s Build Back Better plan, which it calls “a long-overdue step to address environmental injustice.”

Nice to know that the news media can be bought, eh? Just what kind of coverage are you getting from a news organization these days?

Indeed, the “news” organization has had its hand out to rich people for years. Journalism used to be about who, what, where, when and why. AP is adding “how much.”

“It’s the most recent of a series of grants the AP has received since the mid-2010s to boost coverage in health and science, religion, water issues and philanthropy itself. Some 50 AP journalists have jobs funded through grants,” the article noted. Add another 20 focused on climate.

Maybe the better question is: How many AP staffers aren’t for sale?

Good question. The AP is pushing climate cult propaganda for pay, and rarely letting us know the real information.

Surprise: CDC Is Hiding Data On Chinese Coronavirus

Hey, don’t believe me, believe the NY Times

The New York Times Makes A Stunning Admission About CDC Data On Vaccines

The New York Times made an eye-popping admission on Sunday regarding data collected by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Covid-19 vaccines.

In an article titled, “The C.D.C. Isn’t Publishing Large Portions of the Covid Data It Collects,” reporter Apoorva Mandavilli writes: “For more than a year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has collected data on hospitalizations for Covid-19 in the United States and broken it down by age, race and vaccination status. But it has not made most of the information public.”

Mandavilli, who covers science and global health for the Times, reported that the agency has published “only a tiny fraction of the data it has collected” since the pandemic began, including data on booster efficacy for 18 – 49 year-olds, a tremendous chunk of the U.S. population.

You just know that, if the data supported the CDC’s fearmongering and citizen control agenda they’d be publishing it out the wazoo. Here’s one of the best parts

Well, if the data might be misinterpreted, why would that be? And, let’s be honest, they are really mostly only effective in keeping people from getting really sick from Wuhan flu, when they were originally said to keep people from getting it at all. And the article goes on to note that so many have to get their data from nations like Israel, because they aren’t getting it from the CDC. And, you know what they’ve found out?

Got a COVID Booster? You Probably Won’t Need Another for a Long Time

As people across the world grapple with the prospect of living with the coronavirus for the foreseeable future, one question looms large: How soon before they need yet another shot?

Not for many months, and perhaps not for years, according to a flurry of new studies.

Three doses of a COVID vaccine — or even just two — are enough to protect most people from serious illness and death for a long time, the studies suggest. (snip)

The omicron variant can dodge antibodies — immune molecules that prevent the virus from infecting cells — produced after two doses of a COVID vaccine. But a third shot of the mRNA vaccines made by Pfizer-BioNTech or by Moderna prompts the body to make a much wider variety of antibodies, which would be difficult for any variant of the virus to evade, according to the most recent study.

The diverse repertoire of antibodies produced should be able to protect people from new variants, even those that differ significantly from the original version of the virus, the study suggests.

Well, that sounds like a good deal.

A big question now is “will members of the House and Senate ask pointed questions to CDC director Rochelle Walensky over the CDC hiding data from the public?”

Good News: Marines Need $5 Billion To Fight ‘Climate Change’

Another U.S. military organization being forced to go Woke, which means they will soon be worthless in protecting the U.S. and her citizens

Marines need nearly $5B for integrating boot camp, fighting climate change

The Marine Corps will need nearly $5 billion throughout the next 30 years to upgrade buildings at both Marine Corps recruit depots in the wake of increased gender integration and climate change, according to documents the Marine Corps shared with Congress.

The Corps estimates that it will need $198 million over the next five years for immediate upgrades to make possible boot camp gender integration at both San Diego and Parris Island, South Carolina, according to the documents.

Beyond gender integration, the Marine Corps said it needs more long-term money, “to address resiliency concerns, modernization of facilities, and sustainment of overall recruit training.” (snipping past the gender stuff)

With a rising sea level and the precarious position of Parris Island, South Carolina, in the middle of swamp on the edge of the Atlanta Ocean, the very existence of the Corps’ historic boot camp site may be at stake.

By 2050, parts of the base would be underwater nearly a third of the year, a study by the Union of Concerned Scientists predicted.

The topographic map shows that Parris Island is not as low as you would think. It jumps up in elevation into the range of 20+ feet above sea level quickly. NOAA shows sea level rise of 1.10 feet per 100 years, which is not accelerating. Even if part of that rise was not attributed to sinking land, it’s still slightly below what’s expected during a Holocene warm period, and, there’s no way that the base will be inundated.
