Obama Blames His Historic Debt On……Well, Bush, Of Course

Is there anything that Obama takes the blame for? We know he likes to take credit for everything that happens. He took credit for ending the Iraq mission after sticking with Bush’s timeline. Credit for the oil drilling that was approved by the Bush administration. And anything good in the economy, Obama takes credit, and if it is bad, blames Bush. Only some of the bucks stop at Obama’s desk

(CBS) The National Debt has now increased more during President Obama’s three years and two months in office than it did during 8 years of the George W. Bush presidency.

The Debt rose $4.899 trillion during the two terms of the Bush presidency. It has now gone up $4.939 trillion since President Obama took office.

The latest posting from the Bureau of Public Debt at the Treasury Department shows the National Debt now stands at $15.566 trillion. It was $10.626 trillion on President Bush’s last day in office, which coincided with President Obama’s first day.

You can guess what is coming, right?

Mr. Obama has been quick to blame his predecessor for the soaring Debt, saying Mr. Bush paid for two wars and a Medicare prescription drug program with borrowed funds.

Exactly what was the Stimulus? A massive political payback bill paid for with borrowed funds. Is that Bush’s fault? And all the other little stimulus bills that followed? The man is shameless, and the most unpresidential president of all time.

Trayvon Martin Killing Takes A Political Turn

There’s no other way to characterize this story

(Miami Herald) The U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division and the FBI will investigate the killing of Miami Gardens teenager Trayvon Martin by a neighborhood watch volunteer, the department announced late Monday.

The announcement coincided with a statement from Florida Gov. Rick Scott asking the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to offer “appropriate resources” in the case.

The federal and state agencies are intervening in what attorneys call a botched investigation into the killing of the Michael Krop Senior High School student, who was killed Feb. 26 in Sanford, a town of 55,000 just north of Orlando. Trayvon, 17, on suspension from school, was staying at his father’s girlfriend’s house when he walked to a nearby a 7-Eleven store to buy candy and iced tea.

Everyone is asking for more investigations into this killing. There are petitions out there, demonstrations, accusations of police misconduct. And, there could certainly have been police misconduct. But, why the FBI and DOJ? My issue with this is the Central Government getting involved in a state matter. It has become so big that Zimmerman can never get a fair shake.

The Congressional Black Caucus wants it investigated as a “hate crime“. Zimmerman is Hispanic, Martin is black. And therein lies the problem with federal hate crimes laws: they can be used for almost anything, and involve the federal government whenever they want. Even if there is really no need

“The department will conduct a thorough and independent review of all of the evidence and take appropriate action at the conclusion of the investigation,” the Justice Department said in a statement. “The department also is providing assistance to and cooperating with the state officials in their investigation into the incident. With all federal civil rights crimes, the government must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a person acted intentionally and with the specific intent to do something which the law forbids — the highest level of intent in criminal law.

“Negligence, recklessness, mistakes and accidents are not prosecutable under the federal criminal civil rights laws.”

Yet, the DOJ and FBI are getting involved anyway. Furthermore

The U.S. Community Relations Service will be in Sanford this week to meet with civil rights leaders, community leaders and local law enforcement officials to address tension in the community, the Justice Department announcement said.

One of the reasons we have a 10th Amendment is because the original colonies were pretty much the size of the old European countries. Hence, the reason we called them “States”, as in “nation-states.” And the Framers did not want the federal government to grow out of control.

Don’t get me wrong: like Tom Maguire, I think Zimmerman did something wrong. But, at this point, it seems that the Central Government may be fishing for any sort of criminal charges, and there is no possible way that Zimmerman could get a fair, impartial trial as required by the Bill of Rights.

Liberal Talk Left does seem to have a point about “armed members of civil watch groups.” On the flip side, in Sanford, Florida, “sections of the city are plagued by crime, drugs, gangs, domestic violence, child abuse, rape, AIDS, poor health, illiteracy and many other dire situations.” Zimmerman surely, to put it mildly, over-reacted. This is a tragedy, but not one which requires the heavy hand of the federal government.

Massive Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against First Solar

The green boondoggles continue

(NLPC) Securities law firms are lining up to get a piece of the action after a class action lawsuit was filed against federally subsidized First Solar, Inc., allegedly because the company failed to disclose the massive costs it was incurring due to defects in its solar panels, leading investors to believe the company’s stock was worth more than its actual value.

According to the complaint, First Solar: “deceive(d) the investing public…, artificially inflated(d) and maintain(ed) the market price of First Solar securities…, and cause(d) Plaintiff and other members of the Class to purchase First Solar securities and options at artificially inflated prices.”

First Solar has received well over $1.5 billion in federal loans/ loan guarantees based on faulty products and artificially inflated prices. The reckless behavior of the Obama administration in providing all these crony loans is going to do more to damage any alternative energy companies than help.

Shocker: State Government Pretty Darned Corrupt

And you’ll be surprised at which state was ranked #1

(Fox News) State governments lack transparency and accountability to citizens, and remain at high risk for corruption, according to a new study of all 50 statehouses.

Not a single state received an A in the State Integrity Investigation ranking, a product of the Center for Public Integrity, Public Radio International and Global Integrity.

Only five states got rankings of B, led by a surprising recipient: New Jersey. It got a B-plus, with an overall score of 87 out of a possible 100.

Color me shocked.

Rounding out the top five states were: Connecticut (B, 86), Washington state (B-minus, 83), California (B-minus, 81) and Nebraska (B-minus, 80).

Nineteen states got grades of C, and 18 got a D. Eight states got an ‘F,’ with grades of 59 or lower: North Dakota, Michigan, South Carolina, Maine, Virginia, Wyoming, South Dakota and Georgia.

However, there does seem to be an interesting bias, namely, states with lots and lots of prosecutions seemed to have gotten better ratings because they are supposedly Doing Something, while those which didn’t have a lot of issues were ranked worse. And, then there is this

Many of the states at the bottom of the rankings, meanwhile, are sparsely-populated Western or Plains states like Idaho (40th), Wyoming (48 th ) and the Dakotas (North Dakota is number 43 and South Dakota comes in at 49). There, libertarianism roots, a small-town, neighborly approach to government and the honest belief that “everybody knows everybody” has overridden any perceived need for strong protections in law.

So, it’s not saying problems are occurring, just that the mean ole’ small government approach is bad. Uh huh.

Still, that should not detract from the central point that government with too much power and little accountability to the citizenry is a big problem. There is “lax enforcement and no oversight.” Massive conflicts of interest. Poor transparency. Loopholes. Little public access. Yet, liberals want more government.

Young Americans Simply “Worn Out” Over Environmental Propaganda

And by “environment”, the Washington Post means the climate change hoax (via Junk Science)

vThey have a reputation for being environmentally minded do-gooders. But an academic analysis of surveys spanning more than 40 years has found that today’s young Americans are less interested in the environment and in conserving resources — and often less civic-minded overall — than their elders were when they were young.

The findings go against the widespread belief that environmental issues have hit home with today’s young adults, known as Millennials, who have grown up amid climate change discussion and the mantra “reduce, reuse, recycle.” The environment is often listed among top concerns of young voters.

“I was shocked,” said Jean Twenge, a psychology professor at San Diego State University who is one of the study’s authors. “We have the perception that we’re getting through to people. But at least compared to previous eras, we’re not.”

Young Americans are tired of the constant drum beat to “Do Something”, possibly because those who are telling them to Do Something fail to live their lives in accordance with their talking points.

Researchers found that, when surveyed decades ago, about a third of young baby boomers said it was important to become personally involved in programs to clean up the environment. In comparison, only about a quarter of young Generation X members — and 21 percent of Millennials — said the same.

Meanwhile, 15 percent of Millennials said they had made no effort to help the environment, compared with 8 percent of young Generation X members and 5 percent of young baby boomers.

Millennials also were the least likely to say they had made an effort to conserve electricity and fuel used to heat their homes.

Hey, can you blame them for wanting the same lifestyle that the people who are trying to brainwash them have?

“It’s not so much that they don’t think it’s important. They’re just worn out,” Potosnak said. “It’s like poverty in a foreign country. You see the picture so many times, you become inured to it.”

Propaganda fail. Unfortunately, the heavy hand of the Warmist’s propaganda machine has caused these young folks to care less about taking actions regarding real environmental issues.

So, How’s Obama’s “We Can’t Wait” Initiative Working?

Not too well, actually, partly because it would require……work!

(Politico) Stymied by Republicans, an exasperated President Barack Obama told the nation he would go it alone and use his executive authority to get things done.

“We can’t wait for an increasingly dysfunctional Congress to do its job,” he said in Las Vegas in October. “Where they won’t act, I will.”

But five months and almost three dozen announcements later, a closer look at the We Can’t Wait program shows just how hamstrung the president has been in acting on his own to provide expansive or quick relief to struggling Americans.

Some initiatives involve little more than a new website, a pilot program or a brochure. Others are basically repackaged announcements of programs already well under way. Yet others are works in progress, waiting on the government bureaucracy to catch up with the urgency of Obama’s “we can’t wait” mantra.

Now, that’s funny, even a hard left progressive like Obama can’t get the entrenched central government bureaucracy to cooperate. Among the actions

• Obama blamed Republicans for blocking education reform and declared in November that the administration would “take matters into our hands” and overhaul the rules for funding Head Start. Left unsaid at Obama’s event in Philadelphia: He was implementing a law that Congress had already passed on a bipartisan basis — nearly five years earlier.

• The administration announced in October a one-stop website where businesses can access federal programs, and a bare-bones version of BusinessUSA.gov formally launched in February. But the Small Business Administration now says it needs $6 million to develop and market the site.

• Obama announced in December that he would extend minimum wage and overtime protections to certain health care workers. But relief may still be months off: It can’t be implemented until the government finishes the rule-writing process.

• The White House launched Ethics.gov this month under the We Can’t Wait banner. But the effort, which brought together seven databases already available on the Internet, was just as much about fulfilling a campaign pledge from 2008 to create a centralized Web platform for ethics data.

So, all we’re basically seeing is lots of talk, but little action, because making this stuff work is hard work, and interferes with all the parties, golf outings, and campaign appearances. Politico points out that this is why Obama turned to the use of executive orders (and fails to mention that Obama decried the use of EOs while Bush was president), because Obama has zero leadership skills to go along with his entrenched progressive doctrine. He wants to appear to be doing something, but, he doesn’t know how to get it done, which is why he outsources so many of his initiatives. If only he was a quasi-dictator like China’s president….

Fascistic American: We Need A World Gov’t To Stop The Weather

Personally, I would think the answer would be Warmists giving up their 21st century lifestyles and living like it’s 1399, but, hey, what are you going to do. Gary Stix tells us

(Scientific American) Effective World Government Will Be Needed to Stave Off Climate Catastrophe

Why do so many of the Warmists main solutions seem to revolve around more and bigger government? Anyhow, after mentioning a report which states that there is big change needed at the 2012 UN Conference On Sustainable Development in the exotic vacation spot of Rio, we get

Unfortunately, far more is needed. To be effective, a new set of institutions would have to be imbued with heavy-handed, transnational enforcement powers.

So, fascistic tyranny. Gotcha. Just like what all Progressives want. For everyone else, of course.

And don’t forget to check out what I declare to be our War on Women Rule 5 and linky luv posts

Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.

The posts do take a long time, so, if you want to send me your links for Rule 5 babeage or links, use ye olde email in the header bar (remove the NOSPAM part). Preferably, create the html link so I can copy and paste how you want it to read.
