Bummer: Lambs Frozen In 20 Foot Deep Snowdrifts Means Climate Change Bigger Threat Than WWII

Sigh

(Guardian) How should we – not just the farmers but all of us, in Britain and worldwide – respond to the report from Wales that sheep are dying by the hundreds in snowdrifts up to 20 feet deep?

So if we were serious – if we really thought about the present with compassion, and considered the future at all – we would acknowledge that neoliberal market economics just won’t do….

Secondly, we should at last acknowledge that climate change is real, and prepare for it as urgently as our grandparents prepared for the second world war (except that the present threat is bigger)…

Surprise, surprise, a Warmist who thinks greenhouse gases cause massive cold and snow, and also dislikes capitalism.

Ben Carson: White Liberals Are Pretty Darned Racist

Color me shocked! White liberals being racist?

(Mediaite) On his radio show last night, Mark Levin had on newfound conservative “hero” Dr. Ben Carson to discuss all the lashings he’s received from the “left-wing media” over his views on gay marriage and religion. While discussing his being a black conservative, Carson told Levin that, in his experience, white liberals are the “most racist people there are.”

“They need to shut me up, they need to delegitimize me,” Carson told the radio host while explaining why he believes the media has scorned him for lumping homosexuality in with unsavory sexual acts like bestiality and pedophilia.

Levin added that the doctor has been attacked by “white liberals” because he is a black conservative, to which Carson replied: “They are the most racist people there are. Because they put you in a little category, a little box. You have to think this way. How could you dare come off the plantation?”

He’s entirely correct. Though, it’s not just white liberals, but all liberals, but mostly the white’s, who tend to be in positions of power in the Democrat party and the legacy media. They’ll attack any minority and/or female conservative in a heartbeat and excuse any attack on said conservative in heartbeat. Notice that no one in the media or on the left attacked Justice Sotomayor for essentially saying the same thing as Ben Carson on gay marriage and in the same way. But, Carson is black and espouses a right side view, so they have attacked him since the national prayer breakfast.

Post Election, Obama Admin. Signs On To UN Arms Treaty

Surprise!

(The Hill) The Obama administration defied a majority of the Senate on Tuesday by voting to approve a United Nations treaty on the trade of small arms and other conventional weapons.

The treaty, overwhelmingly approved by the U.N., requires countries to create internal mechanisms to ensure that their arms exports aren’t likely to be used to harm civilians or violate human rights laws.

The treaty stalled last summer after the Obama administration withheld its support ahead of the November elections. Since then, the administration has sought additional language protecting hunting and self-defense rights to help placate gun-rights advocates while pushing hard for the treaty to take effect.

Is anyone particularly surprised that Obama did one thing pre-election and takes a contradictory stance post-election?

Anyway, the treaty would require a 2/3rds vote to pass the Senate, and there is now possible way that 66 Senators will vote for it. Senator James Inhofe has already said it’s a non-starter. I can’t imagine Harry Reid even bothering to bring it to the Senate floor, instead simply allowing it to languish in committee.

Now, is the treaty really that bad? Not in its draft form, as I previously discussed. Yet, there are still issues that interfere with existing US law and 2nd Amendment Rights, not to mention sovereignty. Furthermore, quite a few of the nations who voted for the treaty will be the first to break it, caring little for international law. We do have to consider that the treaty is, like so many others, yet another way to shift more power into the hands of the United Nations (an organization full of graft, misconduct, wastefulness, dictators, murderers, and various other bad people).

Administration officials hailed passage of the treaty, which Secretary of State John Kerry said would strengthen global security while protecting the rights of countries to conduct “legitimate” arms trade.

When Liberals start yammering on about protecting rights, it’s time to, as we say in the South, cover your butt, because they’re looking to screw you.

Scientist Predicts Earth Heading Towards New Ice Age

Again, I’ll believe it when I see it, but, sooner or later the Earth will enter into a cool period or glacial age

(UK Express) As if the outlook wasn’t bleak enough already, meteorologists believe the shivering start to 2013 has been the coldest in more than 200 years.

More worryingly, the combination of sub-zero temperatures and heavy snow experienced across much of the country recently could be the prelude to a new Ice Age that will begin next year and last for 200 years.

Russian scientist Dr Habibullo Abdussamatov, of the St Petersburg Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory, painted the Doomsday scenario saying the recent inclement weather simply proved we were heading towards a frozen planet.

Dr Abdussamatov believes Earth was on an “unavoidable advance towards a deep temperature drop”. The last big freeze, known as the Little Ice Age, was between 1650 and 1850.

Today he said: “The last global decrease of temperature (the most cold phase of the Little Ice Age) was observed in Europe, North America and Greenland.

I’m really not buying it, and I doubt if his prediction, well, really, he hedged his bet, will come true in 2013. Yet, if it does happen Warmists will blame it on you refusing to give up your fossil fueled vehicle.

North Carolina Bill Would Require Background Checks For Services

Obviously this makes Democrats unhappy

(WRAL) County Departments of Social Service would be required to conduct criminal background checks on those applying for federal benefits under a bill that cleared the House Health and Human Services Committee on Tuesday.

If someone applying for Food and Nutrition Assistance, what many people call food stamps, or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, which are cash payments, is found to have an outstanding warrant, social service workers would be required to report them to local law enforcement under House Bill 392.

Dems are upset that someone might actually be implicated and denied when they shouldn’t be, and, golly gee willickers, it might cost to do these checks and”who’s going to pay for that?!” And what of those already approved, will they need checks and possibly have their taxpayer funded services rescinded?

Can you see where I’m going with this vis-a-vis gun control? Not to mention that there is a 2nd Amendment, but no right to social services?

Obama Declares April 2013 “National Financial Capability Month”

Alas, this wasn’t an April Fool’s Day joke (granted, with Obama in the WH, every day is April 1st….combined with April 15)

All Americans deserve the chance to turn their hard work into a decent living for their families and a bright future for their children. Seizing that opportunity takes more than drive and initiative — it also requires smart financial planning. During National Financial Capability Month, we recommit to empowering individuals and families with the knowledge and tools they need to get ahead in today’s economy.

My Administration is dedicated to helping people make sound decisions in the marketplace….. (snip)

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim April 2013 as National Financial Capability Month. I call upon all Americans to observe this month with programs and activities to improve their understanding of financial principles and practices.

Much more fun at Twitchy.

The Marcott “Abrupt Warming” Meme Dying A Slow Death

Will The AP, NY Times, and others (The Global Warming Policy Foundation has an interesting list with quotes) who published the findings of the Marcott paper retract their stories and publish updates, since the “science” of the Marcott paper are entirely in question? Here’s Bjørn Lomborg

3 weeks ago, a paper in Science showed the last 11,000 years of temperature. The claim, that went around the world was one of “an abrupt warming in the last 100 years”, as the New York Times put it.

Today, the researchers admit this claim was wrong. The last hundred years is not only below the resolution of the reconstruction, but also not representative:

the 20th century portion of our paleotemperature stack is not statistically robust, cannot be considered representative of global temperature changes, and therefore is not the basis of any of our conclusions.”

If you don’t want to believe, Lomborg, how about the NY Times’ resident Warmist, Andrew Revkin? That quote comes from Revkin’s NY Times article. What we were told was that the warming over the last 100 years was the biggest and most abrupt during the last 11,000 years. Now, after all the media pushed that meme, one of the authors, Jeremy Shakun, has told us “well, not so much.”

That’s UN IPCC lead author Richard Tol.

Roger Pielke, Jr, says the paper comes close to gross scientific misconduct, and Anthony Watts wonders when it will be retracted. And, per Pielke, Jr, here’s what happens when you removed the portion that is “not statistically robust”

To wrap up, let’s be clear: most Climate Realists are not arguing that there has been no warming (and I’ll argue with any who say there hasn’t been any): we’re arguing causation. We’re saying it is mostly or solely natural. Just like it has always been. Warmists claim it is mostly or solely anthropogenic. Why? Their main reason seems to boil down to “because we say so”.

USA Today: Two School Tragedies 23 Years Apart Is A “Familiar Pattern”

If by a “tragically familiar pattern“, as their headline reads, they mean “Democrats attempting to take away Constitutional rights and punish the innocent for the crimes of the guilty”, well, yes. In 1989 a deranged gunman shot up a school (from outside) in Stockton, California with a “military-style rifle” (nice to know that the writer received the White House’s talking points about that)

The stunning attack 24 years ago, which left five elementary school children dead and 29 others wounded, was the nation’s “Sandy Hook” before last December’s massacre in Newtown, Conn. Almost a quarter of a century later, the nation’s contentious fault lines over gun rights and the debate over how to curb senseless mass killings remain similar.

Except for the fatal scale of the Connecticut shooting (20 children and six educators were killed Dec. 14), the assault at Cleveland Elementary School here featured near-identical and tragic themes: young victims, a troubled gunman and a military-style rifle. Then, Patrick Purdy, a deranged 24-year-old drifter, turned a schoolyard packed with children — many of them sons and daughters of southeast Asian immigrants — into a killing field. He later fatally shot himself.

Like Newtown, the Stockton shooting helped prompt a heated national debate about gun control, culminating in a landmark, 10-year federal ban on assault weapons, which expired in 2004. A shock to the national psyche, the schoolyard shootings and the testimony of Stockton officials, including then-Mayor Barbara Fass, first served as an emotional springboard to broad gun-control legislation in California before Congress approved its assault weapon ban in 1994.

So, how do we curb senseless mass killings? According to Democrats, we do this by punishing law abiding citizens by passing laws that restrict their 2nd Amendment rights.

“For all those who say we shouldn’t and can’t ban assault weapons: How can they say that?” Vice President Biden said in late March, urging Congress to reconsider including the assault weapons ban.

It’s actually pretty easy, Joe. The vast majority of us are not criminals and won’t use the scary looking guns, or any others, to commit crimes. What you are saying is that you want to punish us, the innocent, because a few people are deranged and/or criminals. Why not go after them?

The other side of the debate is represented by an unlikely foe: Rob Young, a 30-year-old police officer, who still bears the physical scars of a day he “will never forget.”

“There isn’t a gun law in place that would have stopped what happened to me,” Young said. “I have never blamed the gun. It wasn’t the fault of the AK-47. If Patrick Purdy didn’t have a gun and still wanted to do something, he would have found another way to do it.”

Young was shot in Stockton on that day 24 years ago, and he seems to understand something that Democrats (and the USA Today, which has delved into advocacy rather than news) don’t: you blame the criminal, not the object. But, Democrats couldn’t care less, they want to do away with private gun ownership, and, much like Obamacare is a step towards single payer, this gun control is a step towards a total ban. Except for criminals, who’ll get and use guns regardless.

Could A Newer Lawsuit Sink Obamacare?

The longer this turd of a government program sticks around the hard it will be to dismantle it, and it would require a GOP congress and president to repeal it. The soonest would be 2017

(Washington Times) “Obamacare” looks increasingly inevitable, but one lawsuit making its way through the court system could pull the plug on the sweeping federal health care law.

A challenge filed by the Pacific Legal Foundation contends that the Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional because the bill originated in the Senate, not the House. Under the Origination Clause of the Constitution, all bills raising revenue must begin in the House.

The Supreme Court upheld most provisions of the act in June, but Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. took pains in the majority opinion to define Obamacare as a federal tax, not a mandate. That was when the Sacramento, Calif.-based foundation’s attorneys had their “aha” moment.

“The court there quite explicitly says, ‘This is not a law passed under the Commerce Clause; this is just a tax,’” foundation attorney Timothy Sandefur said at a Cato Institute forum on legal challenges to the health care act. “Well, then the Origination Clause ought to apply. The courts should not be out there carving in new exceptions to the Origination Clause.”

The government argues that it originated with HR 3590, as in originating in the House, but, that was a shell bill, and had nothing to do with raising revenue, ie, taxes.

The suit is currently working its way through the courts. The next big chance won’t be till people are nailed by the Mandate. Unfortunately, citizens and groups can’t sue the government for the bald faced lies they told while passing the piece of crap.
