NC GOP Legislation Would Require Parental Notice For Contraception, STD Treatment

An attempt to include parents in the decisions of their children, something for which Democrats are against…well, as long as it’s not their own kids

(News And Observer) A bill advancing in the North Carolina House requires minors seeking treatment for sexually transmitted diseases and other problems to first obtain parental consent.

The House Health and Human Services Committee approved a Republican bill Tuesday that requires minors to get notarized consent from a parent or guardian to be treated for a venereal disease, pregnancy, substance abuse or mental illness. The bill would apply to prescriptions for birth control.

The bill includes exceptions where federal health care funding prohibits such restrictions, for judicial waivers of consent and in cases of emergency. Written consent wouldn’t be needed if the parent or guardian accompanied the minor during the medical visit and gave permission.

Dems not happy, and throwing out all sorts of BS

But Rep. Beverly M. Earle, D-Mecklenburg, said the arguments of supporters depend on a picture of family life that doesn’t exist for the youth the current law is designed to protect.

“There’s a whole world of young people out there that don’t have that relationship with their parents,” she said.

Well, perhaps we Democrats should stop pushing for the family unit to be broken up. So many of their laws and policy pushes are designed to put Government in the role of Mom and Dad. Consider how loudly Democrats become when anyone recommends parental notification for a minor looking to get an abortion. Parents should know when their child is looking to obtain birth control and/or treatment for a sexually transmitted disease.

Bummer: Greenland Not Melting Any Faster

Despite the massive predictions of doom and gloom surrounding Greenland ice melt, it seems that Greenland is not melting any faster (and 2,500 Manhattans above normal so far this year).

(Grist) Back in 2006, scientists in Greenland made an alarming observation: Glaciers were crumbling into the ocean twice as fast. And not in little cocktail-sized cubes, either: Glaciologist Jason Box accurately predicted the spot where a hunk four times the size of Manhattan would later shear off into the sea.

Remember that starting paragraph for a little later in this post

As Box told our Climate Desk Live audience in January, rising air and water temperatures — driven by greenhouse gas emissions — are to blame. And with more warming on the way, he made a grim prediction: Melting from Greenland and the world’s other land-based glaciers could ultimately raise global sea levels by 69 feet, Box warns.

Not so fast

But don’t start building your flood-proof ark quite yet: Advanced imaging released in August suggested the ice sheet is capable of quickly reversing its melting habit. And a study out today in Nature finds that the sped-up ice loss on the water’s edge, while still a problem, is unlikely to get much worse, even with a big rise in global temperatures. Taken together, these two studies suggest that Greenland’s ice melt problem isn’t as bad as experts like Box had predicted.

Surprise! Yet another ginned up issue, blamed on Mankind (a previous paragraph specifically blames mankind’s GHG output) which has failed to conform to Warmist computer models and hysterical ravings.

For the Nature study, Faezeh Nick, a researcher at Norway’s University Center in Svalbard, led a team that took the closest-ever look at so-called “outlet glaciers,” the 200 or so outermost arms of the ice sheet that flow straight into the sea. Their findings suggest that the increase in melting rate is about to slow down, suggesting that in a medium warming scenario these glaciers will likely contribute just 19-30 millimeters to global sea levels by 2100.

That’s a far cry below 69 feet. It equates to roughly 7-11 .75 to 1.18 inches*. The historical norm over the past 7,000 years since the massive sea height increase post-ice age leveled off is around 8 inches per century. If we’re talking averages, that means that periods must be higher and lower. During a warm period we would expect much more than 8 inches. So, pretty much below what one would expect for this warm period, since the 20th century average is around 6-8 inches. Of course, to be fair, they’re saying that Greenland melt will only contribute 7-11 around 1 inch, per computer models and bottles of tequila. Still a far cry from 69 feet, wouldn’t you think?

But, really, scientists didn’t know how the melt in Greenland was working, so they took a little data and made a model, and found that there were lots and lots of things that determine behavior. Money quote

Scary as these breakups are, she says, evidence suggests they come in spurts and aren’t closely linked to temperature, unlike surface melt, the other main cause of lost ice.

Obviously, Grist and the scientists immediately attempt to dismiss this finding and still blame Mankind and proclaim doom. Remember, the article started off with a doom story about giant glaciers, including one 4 times the size of Manhattan, breaking off. Now we find that they aren’t linked to temperature. Surprise!

Still and all, Warmists should immediately run and sell their fossil fueled vehicles, set their AC to 78 (well, for those who need it, considering how below average this not-yet-really-spring has been), and purchase expensive solar panels for their homes.

*Somehow in converting from millimeters to centimeters to inches I messed up the measurements. Thanks to Clinton in the comments at Right Wing News for the correction. And J.D. here at Pirate’s Cove, who noticed my mistake (been napping most of the afternoon, therapy on my hurt shoulder)

Missouri Legislature Passes Gun Nullification Bill

We’ve seen several states take this route, including Kansas (and other states, such as South Carolina, are looking to block implementation of Obamacare). Missouri is the latest

(Fox News) The Missouri Legislature sent the governor a bill Wednesday that would expand gun rights and declare all federal gun regulations unenforceable, in a response to President Obama’s push for gun control legislation.

The Republican-led Legislature passed the measure hoping to shield the state from federal proposals that would ban assault weapons and expand background checks. But the U.S. Senate’s defeat of a background check expansion three weeks ago did nothing to assuage the fears of Missouri Republicans who pressed forward with their legislation.

The Missouri House voted 118-36 Wednesday to send the bill to Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon. The Senate passed the measure earlier this month.

Obviously, Democrat gun grabbers are spitting mad (nothing new, that’s their normal state)

Opposition came mostly from House Democrats who said the measure would increase access to guns and make schools less safe. They argued the measure doesn’t address gun violence in urban areas.

Strangely, those urban areas tend to vote mostly Democrat. One would think that Democrats would be in favor of allowing their constituents to have the ability to defend themselves from the crime that Democrat policies creates. It’s not particularly helpful if one’s voters are, you know, dead.

The legislation, if it is signed by the governor, would also allow certain designated people to have concealed carry on school grounds, but they would have to pass a special certification program. It would increase open carry ability. It would stop the release of gun permit holder information. And it would stop doctors from asking if a person has a gun.

Top cop Eric Holder, whose department ran guns into Mexico, will surely send a nasty letter and threaten lawsuits. Still waiting for him to send a letter to Colorado over their marijuana law.

Warmist Plane Of Future: San Fran To Phoenix In 18 Hours

As Tom Nelson puts it “hooray?

(Reuters) A solar-powered airplane that developers hope eventually to pilot around the world landed safely in Phoenix on the first leg of an attempt to fly across the United States using only the sun’s energy, project organizers said.

The plane, dubbed the Solar Impulse, took 18 hours and 18 minutes to reach Phoenix on the slow-speed flight, completing the first of five legs with planned stops in Dallas, St. Louis and Washington on the way to a final stop in New York.

According to Google Maps, it can take as little as 10 hours and 57 minutes to drive from Phoenix to San Fran. A plane doesn’t have to deal with pesky traffic, stop lights, and the other issue involving ground travel. Let’s see some of the other low-lights for this single seat wonder

The lightweight design and wingspan allow the plane to conserve energy, but make it vulnerable. It cannot fly in strong wind, fog, rain or clouds.

The plane can climb to 28,000 feet and flies at an average of 43 miles per hour (69 km per hour).

The project began in 2003 with a 10-year budget of 90 million euros ($112 million) and has involved engineers from Swiss escalator maker Schindler and research aid from Belgian chemicals group Solvay.

They expect the upcoming trip cross country to take 2 months. It took 47 days for a ship to sail from SF to NY, going around Cape Horn. The cross country cycling record is 8 days, 9 hours, 47 minutes.

Now, will Al Gore, Michael Mann, and all the other Warmists give up their fossil fueled flights for this wonder of the future?

The Future Of Climate Change In Australia Looks Super Duper Horrible!!!!!!!

All because of CO2

(Daily Telegraph) A COMBINATION of the state’s dry summer, lack of moisture in the soil and Australia’s carbon dioxide emissions could be the reasons behind Adelaide experiencing an unusually warm May. (snip)

Climate Institute chief executive officer John Connor said he believed the world’s carbon dioxide emissions omitted from coal, oil and gas were the scientific reason behind our hot and cold weather extremes.

“Events are being made worse by climate change… because we have been driving extra heat and energy into the climate system,” he said.

Mr Connor predicted an unpleasant future if Australia – and the world – did not put a price and limit on carbon.

“We are changing the climate and we are loading the dice for more weather extremes,” he said.

Hmm, hotcoldwetdry. And here’s how bad Aussies are effected

She looks extremely miserable, eh? Well, no wonder, because she has an evil dog, which is killing Gaia. She should just go ahead and eat the dog.

Will Benghazi Hearing Expose Cover Up?

That’s the question that might get answered today. Perhaps we’ll also get an answer to “why did the Obama administration engage in a cover up?” I think we all know there was a cover up, an attempt to deflect what really happened in Benghazi initially, till Team O decided, 2 weeks after the 9/11 attack, that, yes, it was terrorism, after weeks of proclaiming it was a spontaneous film review, which even included Obama saying just that during his United Nations campaign speech. Also, what happened during the attacks, and beforehand in the months leading up to the attack? What did Team O do? What did Hilary do? Where was Obama during the attack?

(Fox News) Republican lawmakers hounding the Obama administration for months over unanswered questions on the Benghazi attack will have their moment, on Wednesday, to demonstrate whether the internal response amounted to a cover-up — as whistle-blowers give long-awaited testimony expected to challenge the White House’s version of events.

Two of the whistle-blowers’ opening statements were obtained by Fox News, and in the statements they affirm their credentials and credibility in testifying about what happened last Sept. 11 in Libya.

Republicans should also subpoena many of the high ranking military officers who would have been involved in the region.

The administration has parried Republican allegations lately by arguing that the attack is old news, that the State Department already has investigated it and that Republicans are engaged in a political witch hunt.

Which is funny, because Team O still Blames Bush for everything.

“The question is, where’s the accountability for lying to the American people?” Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, told Fox News. “The American people were lied to.”

Another question is, why have most of the American media ignored Benghazi? Here is a story tailor made for investigation by a group that used to act like sharks in bloody water. Had this happened with a Republican in office, they would have investigated deeply. How many front page and TV news leading stories did we get on Abu Ghraib? No one died. No one was really hurt. It was certainly improper action which violated the UCMJ, but the media linked the action by a few low ranking military members all the way directly to Rumsfeld and Bush.

There are lots and lots of questions still surrounding what happened before, during, and after. Here’s one that should be asked: did anyone bother to ask the provisional government of Libya for help, and for permission to bring US military units into Benghazi, or at least to inform them we were going to do that? That’s the first step in international diplomacy for an incident like this.

Expect lots and lots of spin and silliness from Democrats on the panel, who prefer to do their protect Obama schtick rather than care about 4 dead Americans.

Politico: Those Wacky TEA Partiers Now An Ally To Immigration Reform

Well, this is a fine how-do-ya-do for a hump day morning

Immigration’s new ally: Tea partiers

Did your BS detector just ping?

Immigration reform supporters are about to get some new conservative bonafides — prominent tea party backers.

Several conservative activists and tea party group leaders are meeting with Sen. Marco Rubio Tuesday afternoon to discuss immigration reform, including a list of what they support – and don’t.

In a draft of their seven principles, obtained by POLITICO, the groups make no calls for a ban on “amnesty” – a longtime rallying cry of conservatives grassroots groups.

It’d be nice to see that draft, available nowhere on Politico. Usually they, like most on-line, would tell us what it is or have a draft. My cynicism meter just pegged to 8.

Tea Party Express, TheTeaParty.Net and Revive America leaders as well as Americans For Tax Reform’s Grover Norquist are expected to be among the more than two dozen grassroots conservative leaders huddling with the Florida Republican. Most of the groups in the meeting support immigration reform.

Yes, but not with mass amnesty. Border control, revamping the system to deal with temporary workers, visitors, students, etc, so they do not become illegal aliens, slapping companies around who employ illegals, stopping the use of US government programs by illegals, and, OK, perhaps a pathway for a very small few. That’s what we support, in general. None of those groups have shown any support for a pathway, or any of the other measures, included in Rubio’s naive Gang Of 8 plan, which is obviously extremely pro-Democrat, since Dems are not complaining at all about the bill.

Some tea party groups moved quickly to distance themselves from supporting the Senate Gang of Eight’s immigration package just hours after the meeting with Rubio was reported.

“We were invited by Sen. Rubio’s office to discuss the current legislation on immigration, and importantly, to offer our views on how we think it can be fixed,” said Niger Innis, national outreach director of TheTeaParty.net. Innis said that they have not agreed to support the Gang of Eight’s legislation.

OK, so 1 of 4 groups mentioned is explicitly not supporting the legislation. Grover Norquist, yes, I can see him supporting it. We can’t trust him on Islamic radicals, and we can’t necessarily support him on this. But Norquist’s group is not a TEA Party group.

Other key conservative groups like Freedom Works and Club for Growth — two that supporters have tried to get to step up support for immigration reform — have maintained their silence on the issue.

Neither group has offered their support for Rubio’s plan, and neither group tends to get involved much in this issue, so it is no wonder they have maintained their silence. That should not be taken as tacit support.

Essentially, all that’s happening here is that a bunch of conservative groups will meet with Rubio and tell him his plan sucks worse than the 2008 Detroit Lions (0-16) and that he is a naive fool for thinking that Democrats will wait 13 years to naturalize the illegals, that they won’t get government services, that the border will be secure, etc and so on. Rubio is the new McCain.

Anti-Religion Zealots Threaten To Sue Union County Over Prayer

More of Left wing tolerance for others

(News And Observer) Another Charlotte-area county is staring at a possible lawsuit because county commissioners frequently invoke Jesus’ name during prayers that open public meetings.

On Friday afternoon, Wisconsin-based Freedom from Religion Foundation emailed a letter to Union County renewing objections to what it called unconstitutional sectarian prayers, and urged the board to remove prayers from its meetings.

Unsurprisingly, FRF is threatening lawsuits if they don’t get their way, which essentially denies the free practice of religion so that one “local resident” doesn’t have to be subjected to 30 seconds or less of religious prayer, which might make said person’s head implode or something. Because only certain people can’t be offended. When it’s people who believe in Jesus Christ, well, leftists do not care if they are offended. And, of course, a couple fools are trotting out the “Separation of Church And State” in the article comments, one capitalizing the words as if it actually appears in the Constitution.
